John Prince Park Campground is situated on Lake Osborne, approximately 10 miles north of Ocean Ridge. The area features wetland habitats and warm temperatures year-round, with summer highs often exceeding 90°F. The park serves as an entry point to explore Palm Beach County's natural areas while maintaining proximity to urban amenities.
What to do
Biking paths near Lake Osborne: At John Prince Park Campground, visitors can access several miles of paved paths. "Great location, quiet campground on a lake. Many amenities including adjacent to driving range and golf course, bike and walking trails," notes Lynne C.
Kayaking launch points: Jonathan Dickinson State Park offers water access for paddlers. "We took a 3 hour canoe trip, $25 well spent. Next day rented a bike. Good hiking trails too," explains Brian M. The park spans from ocean access to inland areas.
Wildlife viewing opportunities: Morning hours provide the best chance to spot local fauna. At West Palm Beach-Lion Country Safari KOA, campers experience unique wildlife encounters. "Waking up to lions roaring and bonobos scream in the morning was freaking amazing! I will treasure this memory for the rest of my life," shares Ian R.
What campers like
Lake access for cooling off: During hot Florida days, waterfront sites remain popular. "Located on Lake Osborne in Lake Worth, Florida the John Prince Campground has many waterfront sites which contain both power and potable water," states Daniel B.
Proximity to beaches: Del Raton RV Park offers convenient beach access. "I love that this is about a mile from my favorite beach spot, A1A, and a few miles from all things Delray Beach," says Maggie S., highlighting its location advantages.
Wide sites for large setups: Many campgrounds accommodate substantial rigs. "Long term camping at its best. Beautiful site. Lake view. Easy access to launch kayak. Well laid out, grass sites with concrete pads," reports Ed C. about his extended stay.
What you should know
Seasonal crowds impact availability: Winter months draw northern visitors. "I was going to rent there, but it was so crowded that we would not be able to open our awnings and we were only allowed 1 car per spot. You have to pay $6.00 a day to park your car in a lot," Carol C. explains about John Prince Park during peak season.
Insect preparation essential: Mosquitoes can be problematic in some locations. "Ended up packing up and leaving within the hour and getting a nearby hotel for the night. Manager refused a refund, and suggested we go to John Prince Park in the future," warns Daniel G. about a difficult experience at Lion Country Safari KOA.
Transportation considerations: Peanut Island Campground requires watercraft access. "The only way to get to this campground is by boat. Reservations are very difficult to get because is a small campground," Ilena R. advises potential visitors.
Tips for camping with families
Budget-friendly options: Look for county parks with lower rates. "This Palm Beach County campground and park offers you a lot of things to do. Miles of biking paths, fishing and paddling on Lake Osborne, some hiking trails, fitness pavilion and walking trail... all this with short and long term rv/tent camping spots ONLY 5 miles from the beach," explains Travyl Couple about John Prince Park.
