Best RV Parks & Resorts near Silverthorne, CO

Tiger Run RV Resort near Breckenridge provides full hookup RV sites with 50-amp electrical service, water, and sewer connections. The resort accommodates large motorhomes with big-rig friendly access and paved sites. A visitor commented, "This RV resort is a fantastic location and open year-round. The park is clean and has lots of shade." Middlefork RV Resort in Fairplay offers similar amenities with year-round availability, while Sun Outdoors Rocky Mountain in Granby features market services alongside standard hookups. Clear Creek RV Park in Golden operates seasonally from May through September, offering level concrete pads with 50-amp service, though some sites present leveling challenges.

Between mountain passes and valley floors, RV campers should anticipate variable road conditions when approaching these parks. Several campgrounds require navigating winding mountain roads with elevation changes and occasional tight turns. Cell service strength varies considerably across the region, with stronger signals near larger towns and weaker coverage in valley locations. Campground amenities differ significantly - laundry facilities are available at Clear Creek RV Park but absent at many others. During peak summer months, particularly July and August, advance reservations are essential as most parks reach capacity quickly. A camper noted that "Sites are dirt. Our site was difficult to level our travel trailer due to left/right slope," highlighting the importance of bringing leveling blocks when visiting mountain RV parks.

    Denver West-Central City KOA

    Mountain High

Yes Mountain High!! 8100’ high. 7 miles off I-70 at Idaho Springs. 25 miles into outskirts of Denver. Don’t worry they have oxygen! Not kidding!!

Nice campground, friend staff, laundry, fun little gift shop with some food stuffs, beer and liquor. Pizza cooked there but we didn’t try it.

Our space was a big rig space on concrete pad with ample seating, a table, a fire pit, and a propane grill stove… use you own propane! Full hook ups. It was still reaching freezing at night and so we didn’t hook up our water.

Clean restrooms and showers. Playground and dog friendly. Staff was extremely friendly and helpful. Would definitely stay here again.

    Gore Creek Campground

So good, I don’t want to tell you about it.

Gore Creek Campground is a true gem of the National Forest Service. If you are looking for a great boondocking location that is close to great trails and breathtaking views, this just might be the place for you. The entrance to the campground is ~2 miles off of I-70 Exit 180 on Bighorn Road. Only 10 minutes from Vail Village and 25 minutes from Frisco.

We stayed in Site #8, which provided plenty of room for our 22’ travel trailer and pickup. The sites each have a large picnic table and fire ring.

Pit toilets are spread through the campground and were very clean and well maintained. The campground hosts do a great job of keeping everything tidy and looking great. They also have bundles of firewood for sale for $7 at their site just inside the entrance to the campground.

I can’t say enough about this place. It’s probably my favorite spot to camp in Colorado. I almost didn’t post this review for fear of the secret getting out.

    Moraine Loop Campground

    Water front campsites are gorgeous

About 45 minutes from Grand Lake entrance of Rocky Mountain National Park. 9 mile dirt road to get to the campground. Nice level sites each with picnic/tent area. Vault toilets were clean. No water fill, dump stations, showers or flush toilets. Hosts said the camp was packed from 4th July until Aug 20th

Deer Creek Campground — Golden Gate Canyon

    Truly Spectacular State Park

We visited Golden Gate Canyon in October 2020 and we were blown away with the natural beauty of this park. We stayed in Reverends Ridge Loop E Site 49. It was a pull through site, mostly level, and it easily accommodated our 20' truck still attached to our 30' travel trailer. The sites we saw were spaced apart generously. The park was quiet and family friendly. We only stayed for one night as we were passing through the area, but we would absolutely go back again and highly recommend it to others. One important note is that RVs can not enter through the entrance on HWY 46 at Mountain Base Road (we learned the hard way). The good news is the entrance is not far from there, but you may want to plan to enter off HWY 119 from the outset.

    FR 48 Dispersed Camping

Awesome spot with beautiful mountain and forest views and close to a lake

We pulled in around 4pm on a Sunday. We went to the 3rd dirt road on the left to find a spot available. Only one other camper was there and the area could easily accommodate 4 without being too close to each others. Very easy to find. To the north Turquoise Lake is 1/2 mile away. There are mountain bike /hiking trails everywhere around the lake. Even though the space we were in was very spacious it felt secluded and we really could not see the other RV. We pulled our 40 feet toy hauler easily. The spot was leveled and clean. A stone fire pit was there and lots of wood had been left by the previous campers.

    Prospector Campground

Amazing! But tight for big rigs!

OMG! What a beautiful campground. I wouldn't necessarily recommend it for big rigs. We have a 38' Class A and it was tight. Got in a out safely, but I think it all depends on the site you pick. Site 39C was awesome, private, secluded, couldn't see any neighbors. We were able to pull the Class A in forward and easily back it out upon exiting. Simple walk to the Reservoir, with hiking & biking all around. We'd love to return, but won't until we downsize!

Guide to Silverthorne

RV campgrounds near Silverthorne, Colorado often experience significant temperature fluctuations between day and night, with summer evening temperatures commonly dropping into the 40s even after 80-degree days. Many campgrounds sit between 8,000 and 9,000 feet elevation, requiring proper acclimation for visitors coming from lower elevations. Sites are often positioned along creeks and rivers that can run high during spring runoff, affecting access to certain areas.

What to do

Brewery access: Sun Outdoors Rocky Mountain offers convenient access to local breweries, with one camper noting, "We loved this so much. They have an amazing pool! Bowling alley, arcade, restaurant, bars (yes more than one!) they had live music."

Fishing opportunities: Several campgrounds provide on-site fishing options without needing to travel elsewhere. A visitor at Middlefork RV Resort mentioned, "We got to do a little fishing on the stream fed trout pond, but most of all got to take in the South Park region which was great."

Winter activities: Winter camping is available at select locations, providing access to nearby ski resorts. A camper at Tiger Run RV Resort shared, "We stayed in March for some spring skiing. Not only was it one of few if not the only park open during the winter months but is located right in between Breckenridge, Keystone and A Basin."

What campers like

Campground amenities: Recreation facilities receive high praise at some locations. A guest at Grand Lake / Rocky Mountain National Park KOA Journey appreciated that "The bathrooms and showers, located in the same building as the store/office, were very clean and in good condition."

Walking convenience: Many campers value locations that offer walkable access to town amenities. A visitor at Clear Creek RV Park shared, "Along a gorgeous walking path to the mountains, within immediate walking distance to multiple breweries and restaurants, and extremely accessible to the mountains."

Privacy variations: Site privacy differs significantly across locations. At Sun Outdoors Rocky Mountain, a visitor remarked, "They have an arcade, market services, dog parks, bike rentals, daily trash pick up from your campsite, firewood delivery, play grounds, golf carts."

What you should know

Check-in challenges: Some campgrounds have limited office hours or staffing. At Dakota Ridge RV Park, a camper noted that "WiFi: Slow, but strong signal and definitely usable for light web browsing. Google speed test showed 2Mbps down, 0.40Mbps up."

Noise considerations: Traffic and activity noise affects some locations more than others. One camper reported, "The highway is busy and noisy. The bars across the road are noisy with loud music now and promises to get louder as time goes by."

Site leveling: Many mountain sites require significant leveling equipment. At Idaho Springs RV Resort, a camper shared, "This is a great spot! We stayed at site 39 and it was perfectly level with beautiful surroundings. Great view of the mountains right outside our window."

Tips for camping with families

Activity options: Idaho Springs RV Resort & Campground offers facilities particularly appealing to families with children. A visitor mentioned, "Facilities are clean and the showers are nice and large with plenty of room to shower and get dressed."

Seasonal considerations: Summer brings busier conditions at most locations, especially weekends. At Middlefork RV Resort, a family noted, "We stayed here for 6 nights and had a wonderful time. The grounds are well kept, the washing facilities are clean and updated, and the price wasn't too bad."

Budget planning: Higher-end resorts command premium prices but include extensive amenities. A visitor shared, "Let's be clear - this is not camping. This is renting a driveway with access to power, water, sewer, internet, and cable. It is EXPENSIVE. It's also the only place near Breckenridge that offers all of these amenities."

Tips from RVers

Site selection strategy: Request sites away from high-traffic areas for more peace. One RVer at Tiger Run RV Resort advised, "The clubhouse offers a heated pool and hot tub, arcade, business center, locker rooms, laundry ($2 per wash / $1.75 to dry), and owners lounge."

Power considerations: Power fluctuations can occur during peak usage times. A visitor noted, "Sites are spacious, very well maintained, and the grounds are beautiful. Breckinridge has a lot to offer, as does surrounding area."

Water management: Freezing temperatures, even in summer, require attention to water connections. At Cottonwood RV Campground, a camper pointed out it's "an okay place for a quick night stopover. I wouldn't go beyond this and it's certainly not for tents. This is your true stereotypical mobile home park."
