Best RV Parks & Resorts near Olathe, CO

Multiple RV parks within 30 miles of Olathe provide options for motorhome travelers. Cedar Creek RV Park in Montrose features big-rig friendly sites with full hookups including 50-amp electric service, water, and sewer connections on gravel pads. "This is a quiet campground with large trees that provide shade for most RV's," one camper shared about their experience at Cedar Creek. KOA Montrose RV Resort offers similar amenities with 50-amp service and accommodates large rigs, though sites are positioned relatively close together. Riverbend RV Park & Cabins operates seasonally from April 15 to October 15 with both 30 and 50-amp hookups available, and Valley Sunset RV Ranch in nearby Delta provides full hookup sites within walking distance of restaurants and shopping.

South Rim Campground at Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park presents more primitive RV camping with electric-only sites at 8,200 feet elevation. A review mentioned, "Only water spigot in C loop and sign notes no RV fill-up," indicating limited services for larger vehicles. Cell service varies significantly throughout the region—most commercial parks offer WiFi, but reception at national park campgrounds can be minimal or non-existent. Dump stations are available at several parks including Riverbend and KOA Montrose. Pet policies differ between locations, with most commercial RV parks welcoming pets while some restrict certain breeds or sizes. Summer temperatures frequently exceed 90°F, making reservations advisable from June through September when mountain parks fill quickly with travelers exploring the scenic routes between Montrose and Ouray.

Island Acres Section Camping — James M. Robb Colorado River State Park

    Spacious State Park

Overnight stay. Nice park park like setting with all the necessary amenities. Very flat concrete site with picnic table and canopy, fire ring, and gravel sitting area. 30 amp electric and water worked great. Excellent Verizon service as well. Nice view of distant mountains. We did occasionally hear a train in the distance, but it did not affect our sleep. Would stay again.

South Rim Campground — Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park

    Winter camping!

We stayed in the winter off season in Loop A, since it’s the only loop open. They plow Loop A and all pull through sites. There was no fee for the campsite, just the park entrance fee. There’s no power in this loop and there’s no water since it’s shut off in the winter. There are pit toilets which are pretty clean for pit toilets. There were a few campers but they were spread so far apart since everyone needed pull through sites cause it snowed a lot recently. Some places the snow is up to your thighs and some places it’s up to your waist.

Even without amenities, we were happy a campground was open in the Colorado winter.

    Kebler Corner

    Would happily visit again!

We stayed in a camper van over a busy holiday and loved it! We were hoping for a peaceful getaway for us and our dog and found it at Kebler. Yes, some of the spaces are close together but everyone there made it work well. The angled spots and strategic landscaping help too. Plenty of grassy common areas to stretch your legs and your pup’s (on leash), so much so we didn’t feel like we missed out on anything by not being parked with the big coaches along the river. Even better since the large river spots had little/no natural shade (most seemed to have their own awnings that our van didn’t so no worries there I think for them). The tent spots were in a different area on the other side of the property a little away from the busier parts. They also had less shade but had level pads and but seemed closer to the bridge (and hiking). The community vibe was respectful and friendly and it was lovely to stroll about and enjoy it all. Families were out and about, playing with their children and trying different things to do. There was a little playground and some activities in a covered space like velcro axe throwing and corn hole. There were soccer goals set up at one of the grassy areas too. There was also a frisbee golf course, hammocks and picnic tables scattered around the property. A sign by the bathrooms invited camp guests to go gentle group hike if you meet at the bridge at the posted time in the morning. The general store was open during the day and had more than I expected (came for stickers and snacks, left with a game of Bananagrams and more). There wasn’t cell service but wifi worked well for what we needed. The bathrooms were clean and the water was warm. On a busy weekend you might need to use the portable toilets near the tent sites if the regular ones are occupied at a busy time. In the future, splitting the shower and toilet facilities might help with that long term, but I am not sure how hard (and expensive) that is to do in places that are tucked away into the mountains like this. We did use the coin laundry and that worked well. At the time of our visit it was $2 for the washer and $3.50 for the dryer. There was a variety of cute cabins for rent with a good range in size and cost - and some have own their bathroom and even little patio spaces. The hosts and staff were friendly and helpful, even doing trash pickup in the morning if you left it out at a certain time by your site. Kebler is in a beautiful setting, has thoughtfully-designed spaces and is carefully maintained. We would definitely come back - hopefully in a camper van / travel trailer or even just to stay in one of the cabins.

    Ouray Riverside Resort

    Beautiful Ouray

Nestled in a valley with beautiful view next to Uncompahgre River with wonderful walking path. Gravel parking right off hwy 550. Laundry, showers, restaurant. Primitive cabins and fully equipped cabins. Very friendly staff. Pet friendly. Close to uptown shopping and eating & grocery store. Pull thru and back in sites. Overflow parking for extra vehicles for a charge. Down side-you have to trailer to trailheads for SXS riding. Most tail heads are small parking areas but the riding in the mountains is priceless. Been here twice, same site and would go again.

    Ouray KOA Holiday

    Quaint and quiet

Stayed at a small back-in site with 30 amp & electric in our camper van. The site had a fire ring, grill, and picnic table. Loved that they had a store, laundry room, and firewood for sale. The store closes at 5:00 & we arrived at 5:10 but the office lady still checked us in and made sure we had firewood. The campground is well-maintained and clean.

Dakota Terraces Campground — Ridgway State Park

    Winter camping

If you are looking for a quiet and serene camping experience in the winter, this is your campground. Ridgeway State Park has one loop open during the winter in Dakota Terraces. They have winter rates. And they have great cell signal if you have Verizon and supposedly AT&T. (There’s a cell tower in one of the park’s campgrounds.)

[Internet. Verizon via iPhone 12: 14 mbps down and 4 mbps up with 51 ms ping.]

Read all the campground details straight from the park’s website before winter camping. Keep in mind the guest services building is closed for the winter. That means no laundry or showers. The restroom building is open. The dump station is open but the water fill is shut off. You can, however, fill you tanks up using the water spigots throughout the campground. We use a 5-gallon jerry can to transport the water. We’ve been here through a winter storm and they haven’t frozen yet. They also plow the roads.

The visitor center is open which you should check out! There’s an overlook there. This time of year part of the reservoir is frozen. You can get loaner snow shoes at the visitor center! How awesome! Since it’s snowed almost a foot, we’ve been snowshoeing all over the park and through the trails and closed campgrounds.

There’s like 5 campsites occupied. It’s so quiet. We have our own little winter wonderland.

    Palisade Basecamp RV Resort

    Wow! Love this camping spot

Can’t say enough about this camp spot. Wow!! Pull throughs ... back ends available. Fabulous service from the owners. We planned on staying 2 nights but ended up staying a few more days. Dog park, showers, laundry faculties, full hookups, general store, art, great WiFi (we had Verizon) ... and some sites are backed up to the Colorado River. Just amazing .... very clean. Would highly recommend!
