Best Cabin Camping near Montrose, CO

Several cabin options exist near Montrose, Colorado, with varying levels of amenities and comfort. Riverbend RV Park & Cabins offers cabin rentals along a stream, while Meadows of San Juan Resort provides tiny cabins with basic amenities. Cedar Creek RV Park and Montrose/Black Canyon National Park KOA also feature cabin accommodations with electricity and indoor comfort. Most cabins include beds, refrigerators, and basic furniture, though amenities vary by location. "We rented a tiny cabin when we come and it's always clean and has everything we need. I love seeing the stars at night and being able to bring our dog," noted one visitor to Meadows of San Juan Resort.

Rustic and deluxe cabin options are available throughout the region, with sizes ranging from small one-room structures to larger family accommodations. KOA cabins typically offer more amenities, including refrigerators, microwaves, and sometimes private bathrooms. Most cabin sites require advance reservations, especially during summer months from May through September. A review of Ouray KOA mentioned, "We rented a cabin and they managed to accommodate us last minute. Our cabin included a queen bed, bunk beds, love seat, fridge, sink, and a microwave." Many campgrounds are pet-friendly, though policies vary by location.

Visitors should plan to bring their own bedding, pillows, and towels for most cabin stays, as these items are rarely provided. Basic cooking supplies like pots, pans, and utensils may be limited or unavailable. Some cabins feature microwaves and mini-refrigerators, while others rely on communal facilities. On-site camp stores at locations like KOA campgrounds offer essentials, though selection is limited. Montrose provides full grocery shopping options for more extensive needs. Depending on the season, firewood may be available for purchase at the campground, with some locations including complimentary fire logs upon arrival.

    Ouray KOA

    Heaven in the mountains

Wow is all I can say! After surviving towing the airstream up Red Mountain pass, we pulled into the KOA and couldn’t be more happy. Our site backed up to a stream that sounded wonderful with running water. Each site has a picnic table and a combo fire ring/grill. They even welcome you with three large fire logs! They now offer horseback riding right from inside the KOA. They have everything from teepees to tent, cabin and RV camping. A great restaurant on site with a well stocked store and laundry facilities. This place is really well run. The only complaint is the WiFi, which is non existent, however, they are currently working on that and should have campwide WiFi by summer.

    Elkhorn RV Resort

    Great spot in Lake City

This is our first visit to Lake City so I've nothing to compare it to, but I loved this RVPark. Linda was gracious and accommodating. Bathrooms were spotless AND warm. We are at tail end of season so the park was not full at all, but even if it had been there are tables and trees between each site keeping from feeling claustrophobic. We drove past the other RV Park in town - on Henson Creek - you are on the river, but also on the highway and it was packed in. Elk Horn is off the highway nestled against the mountain, and just 4 block walk to "down town" Lake City. Highly recommend this spot. Call to make reservations. Linda gets right back to you. We also stayed on one of the cabins to give kids more trailer room. You provide the top bedding, but there was a queen bed and a bunk (so 4 could sleep easy). No bathrooms in the cabin but your close to the bathrooms.

In addition to plenty of tent and RV sites, Ridgeway SP also has three heated and furnished yurts for those seeking an enhanced comfort level. Each unit includes a fridge, futon type beds, dinner table and chairs. Bring your fishing poles, hiking shoes, water craft and dogs, cause they're all allowed.

    Ouray Riverside Resort

    Beautiful Ouray

Nestled in a valley with beautiful view next to Uncompahgre River with wonderful walking path. Gravel parking right off hwy 550. Laundry, showers, restaurant. Primitive cabins and fully equipped cabins. Very friendly staff. Pet friendly. Close to uptown shopping and eating & grocery store. Pull thru and back in sites. Overflow parking for extra vehicles for a charge. Down side-you have to trailer to trailheads for SXS riding. Most tail heads are small parking areas but the riding in the mountains is priceless. Been here twice, same site and would go again.

    Ouray KOA

Best spot for tent, RV, & cabin!

The spots are spread out enough that you have privacy, there’s attendants around 24 hours of the day to help, and it’s hands down the cleanest place we’ve ever stayed. We rented a cabin (we stopped in on July 4th, sold out of tent spots) but they managed to accommodate us last minute. The staff is incredibly nice, and the price was right. Our cabin is the 2nd biggest option, it included: a queen, bunk beds, love seat, fridge, sink, and a microwave.

    BASECAMP 550

    Great Location and Atmosphere

We had an amazing stay at Basecamp 550. The campground’s location is perfect, with easy access to Ouray, Montrose, Telluride, and other nearby areas. The amenities were excellent, including quarter-operated hot showers and laundry, restrooms, Wi-Fi, full hookups, and a clubhouse with coffee + tea, kitchen access, and a great workspace. Our site had a beautiful view and was right next to a ranch where cows would come right up to the fence. The communal fire pit was a nice touch, and the private, fenced-in setting made us feel safe and comfortable. They also offer glamping tents and casitas on the property. Highly recommend!

    Ouray KOA Holiday

    Quaint and quiet

Stayed at a small back-in site with 30 amp & electric in our camper van. The site had a fire ring, grill, and picnic table. Loved that they had a store, laundry room, and firewood for sale. The store closes at 5:00 & we arrived at 5:10 but the office lady still checked us in and made sure we had firewood. The campground is well-maintained and clean.

Elk Ridge Campground — Ridgway State Park

    Very nice

Nice campground with spacious sites. Concrete pads under the picnic table and fire pits. Water access nearby. Bathrooms were super clean and the showers were nice and hot. Laundry facilities available. We stayed on D-183 and had a nice view of the mountains and the lake. Definitely one of the best state park campgrounds in Colorado.

    Kebler Corner

    Would happily visit again!

We stayed in a camper van over a busy holiday and loved it! We were hoping for a peaceful getaway for us and our dog and found it at Kebler. Yes, some of the spaces are close together but everyone there made it work well. The angled spots and strategic landscaping help too. Plenty of grassy common areas to stretch your legs and your pup’s (on leash), so much so we didn’t feel like we missed out on anything by not being parked with the big coaches along the river. Even better since the large river spots had little/no natural shade (most seemed to have their own awnings that our van didn’t so no worries there I think for them). The tent spots were in a different area on the other side of the property a little away from the busier parts. They also had less shade but had level pads and but seemed closer to the bridge (and hiking). The community vibe was respectful and friendly and it was lovely to stroll about and enjoy it all. Families were out and about, playing with their children and trying different things to do. There was a little playground and some activities in a covered space like velcro axe throwing and corn hole. There were soccer goals set up at one of the grassy areas too. There was also a frisbee golf course, hammocks and picnic tables scattered around the property. A sign by the bathrooms invited camp guests to go gentle group hike if you meet at the bridge at the posted time in the morning. The general store was open during the day and had more than I expected (came for stickers and snacks, left with a game of Bananagrams and more). There wasn’t cell service but wifi worked well for what we needed. The bathrooms were clean and the water was warm. On a busy weekend you might need to use the portable toilets near the tent sites if the regular ones are occupied at a busy time. In the future, splitting the shower and toilet facilities might help with that long term, but I am not sure how hard (and expensive) that is to do in places that are tucked away into the mountains like this. We did use the coin laundry and that worked well. At the time of our visit it was $2 for the washer and $3.50 for the dryer. There was a variety of cute cabins for rent with a good range in size and cost - and some have own their bathroom and even little patio spaces. The hosts and staff were friendly and helpful, even doing trash pickup in the morning if you left it out at a certain time by your site. Kebler is in a beautiful setting, has thoughtfully-designed spaces and is carefully maintained. We would definitely come back - hopefully in a camper van / travel trailer or even just to stay in one of the cabins.
