Montrose / Black Canyon Nat'l Park KOA

Mercury vapor lights illuminate sites throughout the night at this urban KOA positioned on the outer edge of Montrose. The campground sits at the end of a side street off Highway 50, with a storage facility across the way that most campers barely notice. Sites follow the typical commercial campground layout with close spacing, accommodating RVs up to 75 feet with full hookups.

The facility maintains clean restrooms and showers accessible by code, along with a functional laundromat for extended stays. A seasonal pool and playground serve families during warmer months. Samantha B. notes the campground is "very big rig friendly" with easy maneuvering for large rigs. Staff provides local restaurant recommendations during check-in.

Highway 50 runs nearby, bringing consistent truck traffic and jake braking throughout day and night hours despite posted noise ordinances. The campground includes seasonal sites alongside overnight spots. Food and supplies remain within walking distance in town, while Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park sits a short drive away for day trips.

Campers can explore additional campgrounds around Montrose for different settings, though this location works well as a convenient base for exploring the area's national park and urban amenities.

Nicest in town

Tent camping is pricey but the amenities r almost with it. Close to black canyon and in town food and booze with in walking distance. What more could u ask for. A pool, they got that.

Urban campground

This is an urban type KOA. More on the outer side of town on a side street off Hwy 50. The KOA is at the end of the road. There's a storage facility across from the KOA. We didn't even notice it. I didn't think the neighborhood was particularly "sketchy". Just a working class neighborhood.

Check in was smooth. Very friendly staff. Able to give me advice on the best restaurants in town. Very clean restrooms& showers. There is a code to get in.

I used the laundromat& it was fine.

Our site was typical KOA. Really any commercial campground has sites on the tight side. Mercury vapor lights shining in my camper all night. Not a fan! There are seasonal sites also. The pool was closed for the season. We spent 2 nights here. We were happy with the campground, but the constant jake braking from truckers on Hwy 50 was all day/all night. Saw a sign that said there was a noise ordinance, but obviously not enforced. We camped at Montrose/ Black Canyon Nat'l Park KOA Journey in a Travel Trailer.

Nice place to stop

We stayed here one night while visiting Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park. Campground is clean, very big rig friendly. Easy to maneuver. The pool and playground were clean.
