Best RV Parks & Resorts near Montrose, CO

Montrose RV parks provide full hookup options with varied site dimensions and amenities. Riverbend RV Park & Cabins operates from April 15 to October 15 with full hookup sites including 50-amp electrical service. Centennial RV Park features 60 sites with water, sewer, and electric hookups, though alcohol is prohibited on the grounds. Cedar Creek RV Park accommodates large motorhomes with pull-through sites and offers 50-amp service for power-hungry rigs. KOA Montrose RV Resort provides sewer, water, and electric connections with a dump station on premises. Sites at many parks have gravel surfaces with limited spacing between neighbors. "The sites are level concrete pad with full hook up. Most spots have shade and space between on the outer ring is about 10 feet each side," noted one visitor about Uncompaghre River Resort.

Several RV parks in the region remain open year-round, while others close during winter months. Black Canyon RV Park & Campground operates seasonally from May through November, offering big rig access with full hookups. Cell service varies significantly throughout the area, with some parks providing reliable connectivity and others experiencing limited coverage. Four Seasons River Inn & RV Park maintains six sites with full hookups, though one camper mentioned, "Could not park our tow vehicle at our site, but got a spot nearby across the road." Pet policies generally allow dogs with standard leash requirements. When traveling between parks, be aware that mountain roads may present navigation challenges for larger motorhomes, particularly on routes to Ouray and Ridgway. Dump stations are available at most parks, though winter visitors should verify water availability as some facilities winterize their systems during colder months.

South Rim Campground — Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park

    Winter camping!

We stayed in the winter off season in Loop A, since it’s the only loop open. They plow Loop A and all pull through sites. There was no fee for the campsite, just the park entrance fee. There’s no power in this loop and there’s no water since it’s shut off in the winter. There are pit toilets which are pretty clean for pit toilets. There were a few campers but they were spread so far apart since everyone needed pull through sites cause it snowed a lot recently. Some places the snow is up to your thighs and some places it’s up to your waist.

Even without amenities, we were happy a campground was open in the Colorado winter.

[Internet. Verizon via iPhone has no signal. However, with our booster Nighthawk MR-1100 - 25 mbps down and 1 mbps up with 200 ping.]

    Kebler Corner

    Would happily visit again!

We stayed in a camper van over a busy holiday and loved it! We were hoping for a peaceful getaway for us and our dog and found it at Kebler. Yes, some of the spaces are close together but everyone there made it work well. The angled spots and strategic landscaping help too. Plenty of grassy common areas to stretch your legs and your pup’s (on leash), so much so we didn’t feel like we missed out on anything by not being parked with the big coaches along the river. Even better since the large river spots had little/no natural shade (most seemed to have their own awnings that our van didn’t so no worries there I think for them). The tent spots were in a different area on the other side of the property a little away from the busier parts. They also had less shade but had level pads and but seemed closer to the bridge (and hiking). The community vibe was respectful and friendly and it was lovely to stroll about and enjoy it all. Families were out and about, playing with their children and trying different things to do. There was a little playground and some activities in a covered space like velcro axe throwing and corn hole. There were soccer goals set up at one of the grassy areas too. There was also a frisbee golf course, hammocks and picnic tables scattered around the property. A sign by the bathrooms invited camp guests to go gentle group hike if you meet at the bridge at the posted time in the morning. The general store was open during the day and had more than I expected (came for stickers and snacks, left with a game of Bananagrams and more). There wasn’t cell service but wifi worked well for what we needed. The bathrooms were clean and the water was warm. On a busy weekend you might need to use the portable toilets near the tent sites if the regular ones are occupied at a busy time. In the future, splitting the shower and toilet facilities might help with that long term, but I am not sure how hard (and expensive) that is to do in places that are tucked away into the mountains like this. We did use the coin laundry and that worked well. At the time of our visit it was $2 for the washer and $3.50 for the dryer. There was a variety of cute cabins for rent with a good range in size and cost - and some have own their bathroom and even little patio spaces. The hosts and staff were friendly and helpful, even doing trash pickup in the morning if you left it out at a certain time by your site. Kebler is in a beautiful setting, has thoughtfully-designed spaces and is carefully maintained. We would definitely come back - hopefully in a camper van / travel trailer or even just to stay in one of the cabins.

    Ouray KOA Holiday

    Quaint and quiet

Stayed at a small back-in site with 30 amp & electric in our camper van. The site had a fire ring, grill, and picnic table. Loved that they had a store, laundry room, and firewood for sale. The store closes at 5:00 & we arrived at 5:10 but the office lady still checked us in and made sure we had firewood. The campground is well-maintained and clean.

    Ouray Riverside Resort

    Beautiful Ouray

Nestled in a valley with beautiful view next to Uncompahgre River with wonderful walking path. Gravel parking right off hwy 550. Laundry, showers, restaurant. Primitive cabins and fully equipped cabins. Very friendly staff. Pet friendly. Close to uptown shopping and eating & grocery store. Pull thru and back in sites. Overflow parking for extra vehicles for a charge. Down side-you have to trailer to trailheads for SXS riding. Most tail heads are small parking areas but the riding in the mountains is priceless. Been here twice, same site and would go again.

    Woods Lake Campground

Camping among aspens with mountain views

Fantastic national forest campground. Mountain views all around. Woods Lake itself was a short hike away. Enjoyed fishing there with beautiful views. The campground is over 9400 feet in elevation. I did some huffing & puffing while walking around there. Our campsite, #4, was narrow & deep; no problem for a camper van. It has a table, metal fire ring/grill, lantern poll and a tent pad set back deeper in the woods. Surrounded by aspens. Camped there in early June. Vault toilets were not yet open, but clean portable chem toilets were provided. Potable water stations were not yet turned on. Helpful camp host was on duty. Firewood was available at $10/bundle. Our site, as well as others, were private & reasonably separated from others. No shower and hookups. Deer everywhere. Saw sign of mountain lions & bears on the nearby hiking trails. This is one of the prettiest national forest campgrounds that I ever camped in.

Dakota Terraces Campground — Ridgway State Park

    Winter camping

If you are looking for a quiet and serene camping experience in the winter, this is your campground. Ridgeway State Park has one loop open during the winter in Dakota Terraces. They have winter rates. And they have great cell signal if you have Verizon and supposedly AT&T. (There’s a cell tower in one of the park’s campgrounds.)

[Internet. Verizon via iPhone 12: 14 mbps down and 4 mbps up with 51 ms ping.]

Read all the campground details straight from the park’s website before winter camping. Keep in mind the guest services building is closed for the winter. That means no laundry or showers. The restroom building is open. The dump station is open but the water fill is shut off. You can, however, fill you tanks up using the water spigots throughout the campground. We use a 5-gallon jerry can to transport the water. We’ve been here through a winter storm and they haven’t frozen yet. They also plow the roads.

The visitor center is open which you should check out! There’s an overlook there. This time of year part of the reservoir is frozen. You can get loaner snow shoes at the visitor center! How awesome! Since it’s snowed almost a foot, we’ve been snowshoeing all over the park and through the trails and closed campgrounds.

There’s like 5 campsites occupied. It’s so quiet. We have our own little winter wonderland.

South Rim Campground — Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park

    Close to the beauty

This is a nice, clean functional campground that is close to one of the most beautiful places on earth. Unfortunately you can’t see that place, since the sites are surrounded by trees and bushes. However, those trees and bushes provide some shade and privacy, and it’s a quick walk/drive to the canyon. Anywhere else it would be a three-star property. Nice overnight stopover. The $20 park entry was waived due to COVID. Most people wearing masks at viewpoints. We got a site no problem in Loop C, which is all first come, first serve, on a Friday night in July. There are picnic tables, fire rings and bear boxes in every site. Some sites in Loop C have tent clearings, and others have pull-ins that would work for a small RV. Only Loop B has electric. No Verizon service in the campground, but we did discover a good signal at the very end of the South Rim road.

    Ouray Riverside Resort

    Beautiful views

Gorgeous views and they have some some huge pull through sites for big rigs.

Guide to Montrose

Camping near Montrose, Colorado takes place at an elevation of approximately 5,800 feet, with sites available at various elevations across the surrounding mountains. Summer temperatures typically range from 55-90°F, dropping significantly at night even during warmer months. The region experiences a semi-arid climate with low humidity and limited rainfall, making it suitable for camping from late spring through early fall.

What to do

Fishing access: At Riverbend RV Park & Cabins, the riverside location offers prime fishing spots. "Beautiful location next to the Fort Umcompahgre River with easy access to trails for biking. The sites and grounds are well maintained and large," notes Sarah S. Fishing enthusiasts can access both river and pond options for varied experiences.

Mountain biking trails: Several trails connect directly from campgrounds in the area. "We loved our stay here! There is an indoor and outdoor pool, playground, cool mini golf set up, horses, and a lake for kids to fish in," reports Katie B. about Blue Mesa Recreational Ranch. Cyclists can access both beginner and intermediate trails within minutes of many sites.

Riverside walking: The Uncompahgre River Trail provides scenic walking routes accessible from several campgrounds. "We loved the trail into town - an easy walk to the hot springs pool or to grab something to eat," writes Delci L. about the riverside path near Ouray. Walking trails range from flat, paved paths to more rugged terrain depending on location.

What campers like

Off-season tranquility: Visiting during shoulder seasons provides quieter experiences with more space. "Such a peaceful campground during shoulder season. The river and pond are were very nice to sit by and observe nature. The Canada geese families were fun to watch," writes Mary F. about her stay at Riverbend RV Park & Cabins.

Varied site options: Different campgrounds offer distinctive layouts for different preferences. "Very spacious pull thru rv spaces. Long green dog walk area. Surrounded by fields. Views of the San Juan mountain range," explains Victoria K. about Centennial RV Park. Sites range from riverside spots to more sheltered locations away from wind.

Convenient town access: Many campers appreciate the ability to walk or bike to nearby amenities. "This campground is a great place to stay if you want to be walking distance to everything in Ouray. Once settled in we didn't use the truck to travel anywhere for three days," notes Keith S. about 4J + 1+ 1 RV Park, highlighting how accessible services can be from select locations.

What you should know

Seasonal road closures: Highway 50 between Montrose and Gunnison often has construction delays or closures. "The woman at the desk helped explain the bizarre road closure schedule during weekday hours on US-50 btw Montrose and Gunnison (what a mess)," shares Jeff T. about his experience at KOA Montrose RV Resort. Check current road conditions before planning travel routes.

Cell service limitations: Connectivity varies significantly by campground and location. "Cell service with Verizon and T-Mobile is non-existent. Park has wifi but it is very slow and not reliable. Hot spot at main building works well," reports Sydney R. about Blue Mesa Recreational Ranch. Many rv sites near Montrose, Colorado have limited cellular reception.

Wind considerations: Afternoon winds can be substantial in certain locations. "Afternoons always seemed to get pretty windy too," notes Katie B. about Blue Mesa Recreational Ranch. Sites with natural windbreaks or structures provide more protection during typical afternoon gusts.

Tips for camping with families

Kid-friendly fishing spots: Dedicated fishing areas for younger anglers provide accessible experiences. "This is also a fishing pond for kids under 12. They can keep 2 fish," mentions Sydney R. about the facilities at Blue Mesa Recreational Ranch. Many sites also offer streamside access for supervised fishing.

Playground access: Several campgrounds maintain play areas for children. "There is an indoor and outdoor pool, playground, cool mini golf set up, horses, and a lake for kids to fish in," writes Katie B. about the recreational offerings at Blue Mesa. Playgrounds typically remain open from dawn until dusk.

Pool facilities: Swimming options vary across different RV parks near Montrose. "We had such a relaxing stay at Blue Mesa Recreational Ranch! One of the major highlights for us was the amazing pool setup—both indoor and outdoor pools were clean, well-maintained, and perfect for unwinding after a day of exploring," shares Jessica S. Pool availability typically runs from late May through early September.

Tips from RVers

Site spacing considerations: RV sites near Montrose, Colorado have varying distances between neighbors. "The sites are very close together but this is expected at a property like this in the middle of town," explains Keith S. about 4J + 1+ 1 RV Park. End sites or corner locations typically offer more buffer space.

Parking logistics: Some RV parks have limited parking for tow vehicles. "Could not park our tow vehicle at our site, but got a spot nearby across the road," mentions Melody C. about Four Seasons River Inn & RV Park. Advance questions about vehicle storage can prevent complications upon arrival.

Seasonal amenity changes: Winter visitors should verify water availability. "The sites and grounds are well maintained and large. Bathrooms are updated with hot showers," explains Sarah S. about Riverbend RV Park & Cabins. Water systems at many parks operate seasonally, with limited or no availability during winter months.
