    SUMMARY PRESENTED BYT-Mobile

Chatfield State Park Campground permits dogs throughout the campsite areas with standard leash requirements. Cherry Creek State Park Campground offers full hookup RV sites and tent camping options where pets are welcome, featuring a large off-leash dog park with swimming ponds for dogs. Both state parks require daily entrance fees in addition to camping fees, with Chatfield charging approximately $7 per day and Cherry Creek $11 daily. Dakota Ridge RV Park maintains stricter pet policies, prohibiting portable dog pens and tethering, requiring dogs to remain on 6-foot leashes attached to humans at all times. Buffalo Creek Recreation Area and Rampart Range Recreation Area provide dispersed camping options that allow pets. The dog park at Chatfield spans 25 acres and includes areas where dogs can swim, though some visitors note water quality concerns.

Indian Creek Campground features accessible pull-in sites with nearby hiking trails where leashed pets are permitted. Jellystone Park at Larkspur accommodates pets at their extensive family-oriented campground with tent sites, RV spots, cabins, and glamping options. Many campgrounds experience afternoon thunderstorms during summer months, particularly at higher elevations like Denver West-Central City KOA, which sits at approximately 9,000 feet. Wildlife encounters are common at several campgrounds, with deer frequently wandering through Diamond Campground & RV Park. Temperature variations can be significant, with Chatfield maintaining temperatures consistent with Denver, making it warmer in summer than mountain campgrounds. Several campgrounds offer laundry facilities, clean restrooms, and shower facilities that benefit longer-stay campers with pets. Campground roads at dispersed sites like Gordon Gulch may require high-clearance 4x4 vehicles, an important consideration when traveling with pets and camping gear.

      Chatfield State Park Campground

Popular and large campground near the lake

As it is very close to the city, the temperature stays consistent with Denver temps. So in the summer, it will not be as cool as some mountain spots. That being said, it is very easy to get to and you’ll have the lake right there to cool off!

Entrance into the state park is about $7/day. There is a dog park within the state park that allows off leash and has some ponds the dogs can swim in. Entrance to the dog park is $2.

      Diamond Campground & RV Park

Large Park Near Colorado Springs, Pikes Peak & More

This park is definitely well visited, but for good reason. It is located in Woodland Park, a lovely mountain town about 30-40 min. outside Colorado Springs. Lots of sites, mostly RV but there is a nice tent only section with a good number of spaces. We stayed overnight in early July and actually pitched our tent next to our family RV underneath the awning, safe from the summer showers that seem to pass thru almost daily in the summer months. Lots of amenities, including parks with play equipment for the kiddos, a dog park, nice bathrooms & showers.

      Pikes Peak RV Park

      Small but mighty

Camp spots are super close to one another, but you are right up to a stream, there is a dog park and you can walk to downtown manitou springs.

      Cherry Creek State Park Campground

A piece of nature tucked into the city.

Located in the city, but once you’re in the park you don’t feel like you’re in the city at all!!! The RV spots have full hookups and are nice and spacious, as are the neighbors. We were able to set up a tent too! Great place to stroll and relax. Beautiful sunsets. Clean bathrooms and laundry facilities with a little vending machine.

A great place for camping (RV and tent spots), fishing, wildlife/nature viewing, hiking, boating (all water activities), has a swim beach, marina, off leash dog park, shooting range, horse stables that you can do a beautiful hour horseback ride.

FEES: Campsites $41 full hookup, basic campsite $28, daily park pass is $11, annual park pass $83, daily dog park pass $3, annual dog park pass $25, and group camping is available too.

      Cherry Creek State Park Campground

      City Camping at it's Best

Great campground here at this state park. We have always stayed in the Arapahoe Group Loop for holiday weekends. Arapahoe Group Loop has a great pavillion with outdoor kitchen and bathroom. Overall Camper amenities are great and very clean. Many well shaded individual sites are available. Campsites are far from other park amenities like Dog Park, Shooting Range, Marina. Swim beach is a 10 minute walk-able distance from campground. Recommend driving to get around the park.

      Chatfield State Park Campground

      So much to do!

Chatfield is such a great park; I’ve spent so much time biking, kayaking, paddleboarding, spending time with family; picnics areas are even great to have lunch. The dog park is by far the best. Off leash- so much room; well taken care of and big lake for the dogs to swim. And it’s close to Denver - so we go here weekly!

      Cherry Creek State Park Campground

Super busy but great for dogs

This is a location that you only camp if you literally don't have any worries about being around people. It is ALWAYS packed due to the tons of hiking trails, huge dog park, and water access.

I taught kayaking to little ones here and it was always a fight to get into the park, get to the water, and not get run over by boats and unexperienced (or entitled) people.

The campground is well maintained but it sit really worth being able to be basically in a metropolitan city? For me I'll go somewhere more nature friendly and less crowded.

BUT it is excellent for dogs. We love taking out dogs here because they can play in water, run their hearts out, and hang out with other dogs. It is pricey to get into the park though. $80 for a year pass to the state parks and another $25 for the dog park fees.

    Guide to Louviers

Camping opportunities near Louviers, Colorado extend from the foothills at approximately 5,800 feet to mountain sites at 9,000+ feet elevation. This area experiences significant temperature variations between day and night, with summer temperature drops often exceeding 30 degrees. Afternoon thunderstorms typically form between 2-4 PM during summer months, creating potentially hazardous conditions at exposed campsites.

    What to do

Mountain biking trails: Buffalo Creek Recreation Area provides extensive trail networks popular with cycling enthusiasts. "Great place to spend a day to a few weeks depending on lifestyle. Í live out of my van and met a friend here few sites right off the highway with service. Fire pits and hiking near," notes atea J. at Buffalo Creek Recreation Area.

Water recreation: The reservoir at Rampart Range Recreation Area offers swimming and paddling opportunities. A visitor observed, "We went up for a quick weekend trip and it was perfect, lots of campsites along the road and not too close together. The road was decent to drive on a few bumps but nothing crazy. The sites were clean and well maintained," according to Emma H.

Fishing access: Clear Creek RV Park provides direct access to fishing spots along the creek. "There is so much to do at this location; aside from the sectioned off RV area, there are lots of paths and locals parks to adventure around. Tubing & swimming in the creek is wonderful especially in summertime. Our favorite is the fishing, so much fun fishing in all the different spots along the creek," writes Dea D.

    What campers like

Spacious sites: Rampart Range Recreation Area offers dispersed camping with room to spread out. "We researched the spots in this area, and were surprised at how far spread the sites actually are. I had eyeballed site 83 and hoped we'd get to it. We arrived Wednesday morning and realized it was too far in than we would've liked so we landed at site 33 and it was AMAZING! No trail directly near the site, no sites surrounding," reports Taylor V.

Weekday solitude: Sites fill quickly on weekends but offer peaceful experiences midweek. "We came up Sunday and drove around for an hour trying to find a spot. It was so busy with campers and there were dirt bikers everywhere! Sunday evening it cleared up and we were the only ones there mon-tues! I loved the spot we found, super peaceful and secluded," shares Halee E.

Flat tent areas: Indian Creek Campground provides well-maintained sites. "On a positive note, our campsite had a very nice, large picnic table and a fire pit with an adjustable grate. It also had a grill and a very nice flat area for our tent," notes Rachel H.

    What you should know

ATV traffic: Rampart Range experiences heavy off-road vehicle use, especially on weekends. "A lot of OHV riders in the area. Not a big deal b/c we expected it. Just be aware," shares Austin S.

Site availability: Buffalo Creek fills extremely quickly before weekends. "Beautiful spot with easy access to lots of trails and Wellington lake. Only downside is that it is very difficult to find a spot on a weekend. We got up there around 6:30pm on Friday night and after driving around for a couple hours ended up bailing and going home," warns Keiko F. at Buffalo Creek Recreation Area.

Water status changes: Some campgrounds experience water issues. "CHECK WATER STATUS BEFORE COMING. This was a beautiful stay. Friendly host, very spacious sites with lots of shade, and great access to Indian creek trailhead. The perfect start to my colorado trail thru hike! Campsites were half price when I was there because the water was contaminated though, be aware of that," advises Katie H.

    Tips for camping with families

Kid-focused amenities: Jellystone Park™ at Larkspur offers extensive family programming. "So much to do for the littles!! Recently completely redone the entire park and it is all so wonderful! The campsites are amazing and the activities are so much fun. I love the proximity to Denver. Our kiddos love the characters," shares Stacy M.

Wildlife education opportunities: Buffalo Creek showcases forest regeneration. "Much of the area still shows scars from the 1996 fire here, but the sprouts and smaller trees show you a preview of how nature heals and is ultimately uplifting. Big camping spots, fun campground vibes, noise restrictions so don't worry your kiddos won't be able to hit a reasonable bed time," notes andrew B.

Accessible sites: Indian Creek Campground offers sites suitable for families with mobility needs. "This is a lovely campground with a very friendly host. However, if you want a quiet campground, it may not meet your expectations. Because of its proximity to Denver, we can constantly hear the jets flying in and out of the airport," cautions Rachel H.

    Tips for RVers

Leveling considerations: Clear Creek RV Park requires preparation for some sites. "Stayed here for a month and a half with electric only (full hook up spots for extended stays were already taken but that was okay). Staff is extremely helpful and accommodating. Sites 8 & 9 are extremely unlevel, but the other sites are pretty fine," advises Janine R.

Pet friendly policies: For pet friendly camping near Louviers, Colorado, check park-specific rules. "Portable dog pens are not allowed. Tethering is not allowed. We don't like tethering and our rv is small so we travel with some wire folding dog fence so that our dogs can hop in and out of the rv when the weather is good. At this park they can only be on a 6 ft leash attached to a human," reports CK C. at Dakota Ridge RV Park.

Road conditions: Dakan Road Camping requires appropriate vehicles. "All along Dakan Road (also known as Hidden Valley Road), there are dispersed campsites marked by a sign with a tent on it. They are all first come first serve, but offer great solitude in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains. Dakan Road is mostly known as an Off-Road vehicle Road, so 4x4's are suggested to get up to the sites," explains Weston S.
