Best RV Parks & Resorts near Hot Sulphur Springs, CO

Several RV parks near Hot Sulphur Springs accommodate a range of motorhome sizes and camping preferences. Sun Outdoors Rocky Mountain in Granby provides full hookups with electric, sewer, and water connections on level sites designed for larger rigs. Red Mountain RV Park in Kremmling offers fifty-amp hookups and pull-through sites that can fit larger motorhomes. One camper shared that "it was a bit confusing trying to navigate the access roads in the campground as it was extremely large." Grand Lake KOA Journey operates seasonally from May 15 to October 5, featuring spacious pull-through RV pads with full hookups for big rigs and is situated closer to Rocky Mountain National Park.

Most RV parks in the area require advance reservations, particularly during summer months and fall foliage season. Navigation to some mountain parks involves elevation changes and occasional tight turns, especially for larger motorhomes. Dump stations are available at most facilities, though some close during freezing temperatures. Parks typically accommodate pets with designated dog areas, though specific rules vary by location. Cell service can be inconsistent throughout the region, with stronger signals at established RV resorts compared to more remote locations. Several locations offer propane fill services, on-site stores for supplies, and laundry facilities. Winter access becomes limited as many facilities close seasonally, with some parks like Spruce Lake RV Park operating only from May through September.

    Denver West-Central City KOA

    Mountain High

Yes Mountain High!! 8100’ high. 7 miles off I-70 at Idaho Springs. 25 miles into outskirts of Denver. Don’t worry they have oxygen! Not kidding!!

Nice campground, friend staff, laundry, fun little gift shop with some food stuffs, beer and liquor. Pizza cooked there but we didn’t try it.

Our space was a big rig space on concrete pad with ample seating, a table, a fire pit, and a propane grill stove… use you own propane! Full hook ups. It was still reaching freezing at night and so we didn’t hook up our water.

Clean restrooms and showers. Playground and dog friendly. Staff was extremely friendly and helpful. Would definitely stay here again.

Glacier Basin Campground — Rocky Mountain National Park

    Wonderful Stay

I have a 22’ travel trailer I pull behind an F150. Since this campground is inside Rocky Mountain National Park, the roads are all paved.

The campground sites are situated around one-way driving loops, which are quite narrow. Best to pay attention to which side of the loop your site is on so your trailer door doesn’t open up onto the road. I think they error on the side of caution when it comes to the size of trailer fitting into each spot. At least for mine. They said max 26’ (trailer + tow vehicle), but I’m closer to 32’ and I fit fine. That may not be true of all campsites though. There is parking very close by if your tow vehicle can’t squeeze into the site.

My site didn’t have a whole lot of trees, but they planted a bunch of small ones to try and fix this years from now. Sites were level and had lots of space. Each had a fire pit and picnic table.

There were no hookups and no cell service (Verizon). They did have trash drop offs, water for cleaning pans and dishes, and bathrooms. It was very quiet at night. Generators are allowed but only for a couple times a day during short windows.

Glacier Basin campground is just a few miles from the Bear Lake trailhead. It was very nice to stay inside the park. Vehicle passes to get into National Parks were still required when I stayed and the lines to get in were very long and slow.

Elk Meadows Lodge & RV Resort

    Beautiful View / Accessible Location

Good Sam discount CO RV Parks are all more on the expensive side, but Elk Meadow is on the lower end of those around them. Great access to the RMNP(5 mins max!), as well as to downtown. Beautiful views of Longs Peak! Nearest grocery is close(5 miles away). Elk occasionally pass thru the front area which was really cool! There is also a little area next to the RV park where I think they park stored vehicles and it's a great place to walk. It's dirt, but about the size of a track.

GUEST SERVICES= great customer service! Friendly staff anytime I went into the office; they shuffled around to accommodate out extended stay on the spot so we wouldn't have to relocate and could stay at our site the whole time we were in town. We appreciated that!

WIFI/ CELL SERVICE= provided, but not reliable. We used our AT&T hotspot the entire time bc we work remote. Cell service was 4 bars and worked fine in the entire campground.

LAUNDRY: Not the cleanest laundry room we've been too, but it worked. There was a soap and water station in the laundry I used to wipe down the inside of the washer(by the chlorox holder) before using. The trashcan always seemed to be overflowing with lent and trash, but again, clean enough.

SITE: Wide roads and turns; easy to navigate throughout the campground; quiet; picnic table; spacious, no shade, needed levels on one side of our RV; dirt roads throughout so, unless it rained, it was very dusty and so we didn't open our windows as much as we wanted with the fresh mountain air. When it rained and calmed down the dust, then it was perfect to open the windows.

East Portal Campground at Estes Park

    Clean, quiet and beautiful.

Family friendly campground at the end of a quiet road near RMNP. Quiet, no generators heard as big rigs won’t fit! Tents, vans, car camping and camper trailers fit well. Clean bathrooms, hot showers, friendly hosts, ice and fire wood for sale. Big playground and not crazy expensive.

    Sugarloaf Campground

Small, Quite Campground at the End of the Road

Located in the Arapaho National Forest, Sugarloaf is a small campground found on the Williams Fork of the Colorado River. The valley was once heavily forested but is much more open these days.

Cleared of timber a few years back due to Pine Beetle infestation, the campground is spartan with little shade or site separation. It's at the end of a dead end road making road noise minimal. The good news is that it's uncrowded and easy to secure a first come, first served site, and the trees are growing back.

There are 11 spaces many of which will accommodate RVs (we were able to fit our 30' class C), most will fit small travel trailers/pop-up campers, and all have space for tents. Each site has a picnic table and fire ring with a horse shoe pit located in the middle of the campground. There is a pit toilet and water well though the well has not been functional for some time. Trash dumpsters are on site, and water is available at South Fork campground a short distance away. While amenities are limited, activities are plentiful.

Fishing on the Williams fork is fair to good for Brook Trout with the occasional Brown Trout being caught. Pressure is generally light upstream from Sugarloaf and a bit more congested downstream where the stream is slightly larger. Once you're tired of fishing, there are numerous hiking trails to be explored.

Leaving from the the immediate area are the Darling Creek trail, the South Fork trail, the Kinney Creek trail and 4x4 road, the Ute Peak trail, and further north, the Williams Peak trail. There are also multiple Geocaches located nearby. Best bet here is to purchase a trail guide for more specifics on the area. Be sure to check with the Hot Sulphur Springs Ranger district as fires have damaged or closed many locations.

If you're looking for a laid back peaceful camping experience, Sugarloaf may just be the place for you!

    Dumont Campground

    Beautiful, buggy

I biked in from Hot Sulphur Springs. Online it advertises First Come First Serve sites. I did not see any of these. Ended up befriending a couple who let me set up my tent on the back end of their site for the night. The mosquitos were outrageous. From talking to the locals in Steamboat Springs the next day it sounds like this season is unusually rainy, so the mosquito issue could just be weather/ time of the year dependent.

    TL; DR Bring bug spray

    Gore Creek Campground

So good, I don’t want to tell you about it.

Gore Creek Campground is a true gem of the National Forest Service. If you are looking for a great boondocking location that is close to great trails and breathtaking views, this just might be the place for you. The entrance to the campground is ~2 miles off of I-70 Exit 180 on Bighorn Road. Only 10 minutes from Vail Village and 25 minutes from Frisco.

We stayed in Site #8, which provided plenty of room for our 22’ travel trailer and pickup. The sites each have a large picnic table and fire ring.

Pit toilets are spread through the campground and were very clean and well maintained. The campground hosts do a great job of keeping everything tidy and looking great. They also have bundles of firewood for sale for $7 at their site just inside the entrance to the campground.

I can’t say enough about this place. It’s probably my favorite spot to camp in Colorado. I almost didn’t post this review for fear of the secret getting out.

    Moraine Loop Campground

    Water front campsites are gorgeous

About 45 minutes from Grand Lake entrance of Rocky Mountain National Park. 9 mile dirt road to get to the campground. Nice level sites each with picnic/tent area. Vault toilets were clean. No water fill, dump stations, showers or flush toilets. Hosts said the camp was packed from 4th July until Aug 20th

What you should know

Tips from RVers

Winter operations: If traveling during shoulder seasons, verify campground status. At Manor RV Park, one RVer noted, "This is an older park that is staying open during the 2021 winter season for the first time," highlighting the importance of confirming seasonal operations.

Big rig navigation: Some parks present challenges for larger vehicles. At Red Mountain RV Park in Kremmling, a visitor warned, "It was a bit confusing trying to navigate the access roads in the campground as it was extremely large." Many parks require advance assistance for backing into tight spaces.

Site selection strategy: Request specific sites when available. At Grand Lake / Rocky Mountain National Park KOA Journey, one RVer recommended, "We arrived and were warmly greeted by a very friendly and enthusiastic young man. Check in was easy, we had a great spot (RV33) which had privacy due to being surrounded by bushes on the sides between the abutting sites."
