Best RV Parks & Resorts near Commerce City, CO

Several RV parks surround Commerce City, Colorado, providing convenient access to both Denver and the Rocky Mountains. Denver Meadows RV Park in Aurora operates year-round with full hookups including 50-amp service, and accommodates big rigs on its drive-in sites. Barr Lake RV Park in Brighton offers similar amenities with year-round availability, featuring full hookup sites with water, electric, and sewer connections. Applewood RV Resort by Rjourney in Wheat Ridge provides both 30-amp and 50-amp electrical service on big-rig friendly sites, though fires are not permitted within the park. Clear Creek RV Park in Golden operates seasonally from May through September with full hookup capabilities but does not accommodate larger RVs. "Spots were VERY CLOSE together so we didn't like that at all," noted one Applewood RV Resort visitor, highlighting a common challenge at urban RV parks in the region.

Advance reservations are strongly recommended for RV sites throughout the Commerce City area, particularly during summer months and special events. Most parks offer on-site dump stations, though Cherry Creek State Park charges an additional $20 fee for this service. Pet policies vary but generally allow leashed pets within designated areas. RV travelers should note that while many parks advertise as big-rig friendly, site leveling can be problematic at some locations. One visitor to Flatiron Reservoir mentioned: "The site itself was so steep that we had to pull in forward just to attempt leveling our Class A RV—completely unsuitable for big rigs." Urban RV parks typically provide reliable cell service and convenient access to shopping, while state park campgrounds offer more spacious sites but may have limited hookup options. Most RV parks in the region maintain clean shower facilities and laundry services for guests.

    Riverview RV Park & Campground

    Quick Stop close to Loveland

Campground is situated along the Big Thompson River. Big cottonwood trees. Easy accessibility for big rigs. Some items … water valves leak in lakes around entire park and many are leaking. No dog runs for pups, lots of places to walk though. There are long term “campers” at this park. Bathrooms were clean but dated.

    Denver West-Central City KOA

    Mountain High

Yes Mountain High!! 8100’ high. 7 miles off I-70 at Idaho Springs. 25 miles into outskirts of Denver. Don’t worry they have oxygen! Not kidding!!

Nice campground, friend staff, laundry, fun little gift shop with some food stuffs, beer and liquor. Pizza cooked there but we didn’t try it.

Our space was a big rig space on concrete pad with ample seating, a table, a fire pit, and a propane grill stove… use you own propane! Full hook ups. It was still reaching freezing at night and so we didn’t hook up our water.

    Lone Rock Campground

    Line Rock review

We love this campground due to the river access. The do have potable water but it tastes pretty bad, so brIng drinking/cooking water. Most, if not all sites, have a picnic table and fire pit. During reservable season (Memorial Day to Labor Day I believe), the campground host usually has firewood for sale. No cell service, no electric. We hear that the cafe In Deckers may be getting wifi. The campground is open all year but the water is shut off in the winter. Sites are close to each other.

    Loveland RV Resort

Fair Site Pricing & Nice Amenities But A Few Additional Fees

I wanted to stop into this area after exploring a few campgrounds designed more so for tent campers in the area. I noticed some of these spaces were not ideal for those wanting to bring their RV and have amenities and that really was something that I know many of the people I know really look for when finding their locations for travel. Loveland is a little further away from the entrance of Rocky Mountain National Park but it offers many great things to those wanting to explore the area and still be within comfortable distance of the park itself. The RV Resort is designed for both larger and smaller rigs and offers a variety of comfortable amenities for campers of this style.

There are 4 basic styles of offerings at this location including full hook up, oversized full hook up, premium and premium back up sites. These prices range from$56 to$65 for base single night stay. They do offer both weekly and monthly rates as well for those really wanting to enjoy the area.

Something which I have found very common amongst these style of locations is that while they do offer base charges which do not include tax there are many times additional fees depending on certain amenities. This campground was no different with additional charges for parties of over 4 people, extra vehicles or pets. Additionally they do have a sizable$20 dump fee, I found this to be quite high, especially considering there is a free dump station only a few miles up the way at another facility which allows campers or passers by alike to use their dump station.

Something nice is they do offer a Good Sam discount if you belong to the affiliated program which is a few dollars off the price of nightly stay.

Additionally amenities include a pool and mini golf which were quite nice and a clubhouse with several really cool things inside. They have a playground for the kiddos and a dog park for the furry family.

Overall the park itself seemed to have wide roadways for navigating and though for my personal taste the sites are located pretty close together they were pretty typically placed for an RV style park. Unlike several parks I have encountered in the area and others, this place did not have the long term stay option readily flagrant and while they might offer it you do not see people who look like they have moved in and allowed their area to become homely and run down. Quite the opposite, the grounds were very clean and inviting, everyone was very friendly and nothing looked like a“there goes the neighborhood” moment.

    Beautiful KOA

Campground is located above Central City with great views. Amenities include full hookup sites both pull through and back-in. Store with everything a camper would need. Clean restrooms and showers. Playground and dog friendly. Staff was extremely friendly and helpful. Would definitely stay here again.

    Loveland Station Campground - CLOSED

    New owners, New Name.

Falcon’s Landing RV Park 648 NE Frontage Road Johnstown CO 80534

    Ph: 970-800-1569 Email: falconslandingrv@hotmail.com URL: falconslandingrv.com

Family owned and operated. They have a great long range plans for the improvement of the park with added amenities. Great progress has been made in cleaning up the park and making it more inviting. Most of the older trashy campers have left. There still is a fair amount of long-term campers but their spaces are looking much better and their campers are in better condition for the most part. all the spaces have full hook ups and there is room for big rigs. Our camper is a 42 foot fifth wheel. There is a laundry, clean restrooms and showers and mail service. There are not a lot of amenities for children at this point but those are in their future plans. This campground is actually located on the east edge of Loveland Colorado and on the east side of interstate I 25 and just south of Highway 34. For being next to the interstate, it is a very quiet campground with lots of trees and plants. A great place to stay while visiting the Rocky Mountains. They are not really geared for overnight camping but I’m sure they would accommodate if they had an open space. Their rates are reasonable and they seem to stay full most of the time time so it is best to call ahead and reserve a site. We stayed here in November and December 2020 And again now since April 1 and will be leaving mid June.

    Flatiron Reservoir Campground

    Disappointed

We stayed at site F03 from June 8–14 (we left a day early) and were very disappointed in the condition of this campground.

We live full-time in our motorhome and have traveled extensively across the country. Sadly, this was one of the worst campsites we’ve stayed at. The grass was extremely overgrown, the bushes and trees were encroaching on the site, and the water spigot in our area was non-functional. The site itself was so steep that we had to pull in forward just to attempt leveling our Class A RV—completely unsuitable for big rigs.

Adding to that, this is not a full hookup site. You're paying over $50 per night (after the additional $10 vehicle charge) for electricity only, with the nearest dump station 7 miles away. That price is far too high for what’s offered, especially given the lack of maintenance.

To their credit, the park office was understanding and did refund two nights of our stay, which we appreciated. However, we left a day early and will not be returning.

    Loveland Station Campground - CLOSED

This is an old campground being remodeled to buy new owners and with a new name: Falcons Landing.

This is a quiet, laid-back Campground without a lot of amenities yet. Quite a few full-time residence or long-term residence. All ages but not much for children to do. We are full-time RV years but this area is where we are from with family around. We stayed here from April 1, 2021 and will probably be here till september. We are staying in a 42 foot grand design fifth wheel.

    Horsetooth Inn & RV Park

    Excellent location & amenities!

A truly enjoyable long term RV park with Airbnb cabins for family/friends to visit! The park is on Inlet Bay side of Horsetooth Rez, right up the road from the marina. lot's of accessibility to easy going paddle boarding/kayaking or paddle out and enjoy the wake of the boats for a little more challenge! Beautiful scenery from wildlife walking through the park and enjoying the sunset/sunrise on the rez! No need to fight for parking as you're already front and center of all the rez action! Cutest store on site that is well stocked and priced! I appreciated the assistance with having propane delivered to my RV by management and the upkeep of the park during winter/summer months. Very cost effective with easy access to pay online. Definitely one of the nicest and well managed RV long term parks I've been to!  Very family oriented, yet quiet and respectful! I highly recommend Horsetooth RV park & store!

Guide to Commerce City

RV sites near Commerce City, Colorado generally offer year-round accessibility at elevations between 5,000-5,500 feet. The eastern metro Denver location puts campers within 30 minutes of downtown while maintaining proximity to mountain recreation areas. Winter temperatures can drop below freezing overnight, requiring heated water connections at many campgrounds during colder months.

What to do

Wildlife viewing at Barr Lake State Park: Located near Barr Lake RV Park, the state park features an 8.8-mile trail around the lake and a wildlife refuge that attracts over 350 bird species. "It is very close to the highway, especially the group of sites on the east side, it can be noisy but" the proximity to nature makes up for it, according to Jake C.

Hiking trails from Golden: Campers at Clear Creek RV Park can access numerous trails directly from the campground. "There is so much to do at this location; aside from the sectioned off RV area, there are lots of paths and locals parks to adventure around. Tubing & swimming in the creek is wonderful especially in summertime," mentions Dea D.

Mountain day trips: From Commerce City, campers can reach Rocky Mountain National Park in about 90 minutes. The drive passes through scenic areas and smaller mountain towns. "About 45 minute beautiful drive to Rocky Mountain National Park entrance," notes Aaron from Riverview RV Park, making it an ideal base camp for park exploration.

What campers like

Urban convenience with natural settings: Dakota Ridge RV Park offers access to both city amenities and outdoor recreation. "This campground allows easy access to Denver, Golden, and the foothills. Campers are close together, but there are some mature trees. This campground is nicer than most that provide access to Denver," explains Colorado C.

Clean facilities and amenities: Many Commerce City area campgrounds maintain high standards for their facilities. "Bathrooms were clean. The staff is helpful. Walk up the hill to the open space adjacent to the campground for a view of the mountains and the city," notes a Dakota Ridge visitor, highlighting amenities that enhance the camping experience.

Transportation options: Campers appreciate the public transit connections from Commerce City area campgrounds. "The bus to Union Station leaves every hour just outside the campground - so with an easy 30 min trip, you are in the center of Denver! Could not be any easier when camping without a car," shares Maria M. from Prospect RV Park.

What you should know

Space limitations: Urban RV sites near Commerce City typically have limited space between rigs. "Super disappointing the pool was closed in the middle of July. Biker bar and nose didn't affect us. Might consider staying again. No issues with neighbors," notes Chasing the S. about their experience at Applewood RV Resort by Rjourney.

Cell service and internet: Most campgrounds offer decent cell coverage, but Wi-Fi quality varies significantly. "We work remotely so good wi-fi is always a bonus but unfortunately this wi-fi was barely usable, even for just using your phone... Luckily our Verizon service consistently had 3-4 bars of 5G so we were able to use our jet pack for any internet needs," reports Charlie & Danielle B.

Extended stay options: Some parks accommodate longer-term campers. "This place is expensive ($440 a week) but very nice and it let me in with my older rig on the spot... Usually its hard to find places that will let older rigs in especially without a reservation," writes Marie G. about Loveland RV Resort.

Tips for camping with families

Look for kid-friendly activities: Some campgrounds offer dedicated areas for children. "The campground has a pool and hot tub. The play set for kids is small. The bathrooms are very clean," notes a Colorado C. about amenities important for families with young children.

Consider noise levels: Highway proximity can affect sleep quality for light sleepers. "The highway is busy and noisy. The bars across the road are noisy with loud music now and promises to get louder as time goes by," warns DAVID M., suggesting families might want sites further from main roads.

Find campgrounds with recreational variety: Denver Meadows RV Park offers a range of activities. "It was a great spot for families that is quit and very clean. Quick and easy camping experience," recommends Storm S., highlighting the importance of selecting parks that balance accessibility with comfort for families.

Tips from RVers

Water pressure considerations: RVers should monitor water pressure at Commerce City area campgrounds. "Be sure to have a water pressure regulator or you'll come back to a flooded RV," cautions Love4travel T. about their stay at Loveland RV Resort.

Site leveling challenges: Many campgrounds have uneven sites requiring leveling equipment. "The A3 site chosen is gravel with a hole or two and significantly tilted low to the front left....requiring a 4 high stack," reports DAVID M., emphasizing the importance of bringing leveling blocks.

Pet restrictions vary: Some parks have strict pet policies. "Portable dog pens are not allowed. Tethering is not allowed... At this park they can only be on a 6 ft leash attached to a human. They have a dog 'area' instead of a fenced dog park where they can play a little," explains CK C. about their experience with pet facilities.
