What to do
Horseback riding: Access guided tours near Colter Bay Campground with rides ranging from 1-hour to full-day excursions. "The entire area was packed for Labor Day weekend. Decent site; trees/shade...but little privacy. Good access to all the area sights," notes Melanie Z.
Hiking mountain trails: Trails with varying difficulty levels surround most campgrounds. "At Colter Bay campground they have a laundromat, showers, grocery store, coffee stand, and gift shop. We were able to use our active military ID for a discount at the campsite," explains Krissy P., highlighting amenities that support hikers.
Fishing access: Many campgrounds offer direct river access for fishing. "This campground is amazing! Wi-Fi is good. Bathrooms are perfect. Staff was very friendly. Our site sat on the running stream, it was very peaceful," writes Melanie T. about Windhaven RV Resort.
What campers like
Privacy between sites: Several campgrounds prioritize spacing between sites. "The sites are large and Allen the owner/host was great! Close enough to Yellowstone and Grand Tetons along with other great stops," shares Todd W. about Windhaven RV Resort, noting the generous site dimensions.
Evening activities: Community events create memorable experiences. "This place is unbelievably beautiful! The campground is just a place to lay your head, but the hikes around Colter Bay are majestic! Church at the amphitheater was enjoyable, and the grocery store provided necessary items and ice cream treats daily!" reports Chelsea W.
Convenience to town amenities: Solitude RV Park offers both seclusion and town access. "Walkable to downtown (about 1.5); Fishing and great walking path right across the street. We went to the rodeo on Friday night and the grounds are right across the street. The small town was historic and nice to walk around," explains Julia M.
What you should know
Site selection considerations: Some campground loops have significant topography challenges. "We booked two nights in the O Loop (346). Prior to booking the site looked level. Our site was so slopped I could barely get the stability bars off the trailer. We used our spare tire as a step," cautions David B. about Colter Bay Campground.
Bathroom facilities vary widely: Not all RV parks offer full bathroom amenities. "Great RV Park 1 hour from Grand Teton Park in a nice town. The owner lives there and he is great always helping," notes Daniel L. about Windhaven RV Resort, which maintains clean facilities.
Weather fluctuations: Summer days can reach 80°F but nights often drop to 40°F even in July. "Very windy most of the day so we didn't keep our windows open unfortunately. Too much dust whipping around and gusty, although the roads were gravel, everywhere else around is dessert and dirt," mentions Julia M. about Solitude RV Park.
Tips for camping with families
Water recreation options: Teton Valley Resort offers swimming amenities for kids. "This campground has a blend of cabins mixed with the RV sites so it has a ton of added value with the heated pool/hottub, laundry, showers looked decent and my personal favorite... they have little s'more bags that they give you and do little community bonfires each night," shares Amber W.
Kid-friendly activities: Seek out campgrounds with organized activities. "You could spend your entire vacation here without leaving the campground (but don't do that because there are two incredible National Parks right there)," advises John T. about Colter Bay.
Wildlife viewing opportunities: Schedule early morning or evening wildlife tours. "The wildlife was incredible. We saw a grizzly, and a moose with her calf, among other creatures," reports Celina M.
Tips from RVers
Electrical considerations: Many RV campgrounds near Moran, Wyoming offer different electrical options. "Easy in easy out. Large sites great water pressure, make sure to have a water regulator. Close to town. Very nice staff. Well laid out park," advises Roaming R. about Windhaven RV Resort.
Water pressure variations: Water systems differ across facilities. "This is a basic campground with no bath house or toilet facilities so more designed for RVs. There are ATV & hiking trails all over with incredible views of the beautiful mountains," explains Lynn O. about Solitude RV Park.
Dump station access: RV parks maintain different policies regarding dump station use. "We came to use the dump station after boondocking in the area. It is $10 to dump. When you arrive in colter bay turn right at the four way stop and then take an immediate left into the Rv Park," explains Kelsey B.
