RV parks near Cody, Wyoming range from small family operations to larger facilities with river views. Located at elevations around 5,000 feet, summer temperatures typically reach 85°F during days and drop to 50°F at night. Most campgrounds operate seasonally between May and October due to cold Wyoming winters, with winter camping options limited primarily to the Parkway RV Campground.
What to do
Fishing access: Cody Trout Ranch Camp offers a stocked fishing pond on-site. "There's so much to do here! My littles (6&8) loved the playground, the fishing pond, it's far enough from the road to be quiet and safe," notes a family who visited the Cody Trout Ranch Camp.
Yellowstone day trips: RV parks along North Fork Highway provide a base for Yellowstone exploration. "This was by far our favorite RV park on our recent trip out west. We had a spot on the outer circle and the lots were huge and they backed up to a field or the river which was a great view. The only drawback to this RV park how far from Yellowstone it is. It's 35+ minutes from the East entrance," reports a visitor at Yellowstone Valley Inn & RV.
Downtown Cody attractions: Several campgrounds offer walkable access to Cody's historic downtown. "The location is perfect for getting into the Yellowstone. The staff is very friendly and the entire facility was extremely well kept and clean. The shower houses were dated but clean," comments a camper from Absaroka Bay RV Park.
What campers like
Clean shower facilities: Maintained bathrooms are consistently praised across campgrounds. "Very nice Rv park with indoor hot tub, outdoor pool. Also nice showers. Think there were 6 individual showers with toilet and sink. So you can have complete privacy," writes a visitor to Yellowstone Valley Inn & RV.
Laundry options: Functioning laundry facilities are valuable for extended stays. "The laundry room is very clean. It is attached to the bathroom/shower house. The location is very close to the town of Cody and grocery stores and gas stations," notes a guest at Absaroka Bay RV Park.
Convenient town access: RV sites within walking distance to restaurants receive positive reviews. "4 Miles outside Cody you will find this campground. Very nice place, everything is clean and well maintained. Showers and toilets are nice! We also make use of the laundry, in 30 minutes you have clean clothing again," comments a visitor to Buffalo Bluff RV Park.
What you should know
Winter RV options: Parkway RV Campground (formerly Gateway Motel and Campground) operates year-round with limited amenities. "Nothing fancy - no pool or bbq pits, but it worked for us as we were just passing through. It's about an hour from the east entrance to Yellowstone which is convenient," reports one guest at Parkway RV Campground.
Hard water considerations: The mineral content in local water can affect RVs. "Very clean friendly spot with full hook ups. Not much green space at all but it was great for our overnight spot before heading into Yellowstone. One other point of concern is that the campground waters every night, with very hard water that leaves tough to remove spots on you camper and vehicle. Get them off ASAP."
Early arrival policies: Many parks have specific check-in windows. "Our arrival email stated not to arrive before 3:00 PM and we were coming in from about an hour away so we called the office to see if early arrival would be permitted. Since we were arriving on a Monday, well into September, our site was empty and we were told to come on in, which was nice."
Tips for camping with families
Playground access: Some campgrounds offer dedicated children's areas. "My littles (6&8) loved the playground, the fishing pond, it's far enough from the road to be quiet and safe. It's new so the trees are pretty young still."
Wildlife awareness: Bears can be present in the area. One review from a nearby campground in 2024 noted: "In short the campground had a bear owners knew about, but didn't inform the people booking."
Noise considerations: Highway proximity can affect sleep quality at certain campgrounds. "There is some highway noise and didn't seem to give up throughout the night. The staff is very friendly and the entire facility was extremely well kept and clean."
Tips from RVers
Site spacing: Many RV sites near Cody tend to be close together. "Enjoyed our stay here. The sites are little tight, but very level. Clean showers and laundry facility. No shade," comments a visitor to Buffalo Bluff RV Park.
Tipi options: Alternative accommodations are available at select parks. "The tipis are gorgeously appointed and so comfortable to sleep in. They are right on the Shoshone, definitely a great and five star experience. You can fish on the river if it's not running too fast and there is a Trout pond you also can fish for free."
Big rig access: Many Cody area campgrounds accommodate larger RVs. "This RV Park is just the right size with about 40 sites. Most for larger rigs but some for smaller. It's located just outside of Cody a few miles, so you don't have to deal with the traffic noise or the light pollution. Star gazing is excellent."
