Highland Ridge Campground at Eau Galle Reservoir welcomes pets with spacious sites set in a densely wooded environment. This Army Corps of Engineers park offers 38 well-maintained campsites plus walk-in tent sites, all with generous spacing between neighbors providing privacy for campers with dogs. The campground features clean restrooms, hot showers, and electric hookups at most sites, though no water or sewer connections are available at individual campsites. ['Campers report the site is one of the cleanest campgrounds with large, well-shaded sites perfect for privacy.'] Both tent and RV camping options accommodate pets, with no specific breed restrictions noted. The campground host provides friendly service and offers free beach passes to campers visiting the reservoir.

The Eau Galle Reservoir, located about a 10-minute drive from the campground, provides additional pet recreation opportunities with a small, beautiful lake perfect for peaceful paddling and a swimming area. Several short hiking trails accessible directly from the campground allow dog owners to explore with their pets. Nearby Nugget Lake County Park also permits pets and features non-motorized lake access ideal for dogs that enjoy water. Visitors should prepare for bugs, particularly in August, as reviews mention the wooded environment can become mosquito-heavy during summer months. Most campsites require reservations, which can be made online even from the campground with adequate cell service from most providers. The surrounding area includes Amish country with farms selling local firewood, and a creamery within a short drive offers a pleasant excursion for campers and their four-legged companions.

    Interstate State Park Campground

    Expeditions at Interstate!

This is a state park on the Wisconsin side of the St Croix River, which is mirrored by a comparable but smaller state park in Minnesota on the wrst side of the river, both being part of the wild and scenic St Croix National Waterway. Although the campsites themselves are pretty run of the mill, the setting is spectacular in terms of breathtaking scenery, and myriad outdoor activities from rock climbing in the river gorge, paddling the river, hiking miles of trails, and learning geology at the Ice Age geology visitors center. If you are tenting camping, the south loop is great, and if you pick campsite 65 or 67 you will have direct access to the river which is peaceful and good for paddle opportunities. There are picnic areas with swimming along the river which is nice for group gatherings, and one is designated for folks with pets. Some of the rugged hiking trails along the bluffs and cliffs go right along the edge with minimal guard rails or walls, so keep a close eye on kids and pets because going over the edge is a possibility so utmost caution is advised.

    Tresure Island RV Park

    Crowded park, nice people

We were here for a night to see a concert at the amphitheater and everyone was super friendly. It was easy to check in, and we were able to do laundry and shower which was great. It’s mostly gravel but they have some tent sites on the grass. They are dog friendly and have some grassy areas to walk your pets which was great.

    St. Croix Bluffs Regional Park

    Top Shelf

Beautiful, spacious, trees but open. Nice trails, clean restrooms, level sites. No alcohol allowed and no pets! Fire rings, sturdy picnic table. Electric and water.

I made reservations online and when we arrived they said I had reserved a place at Elmo Lake which was 20 miles away. Same 2 county facilities but different campgrounds. Oops my bad. Different addresses!

    Lebanon Hills Regional Park

    Great Campground

We just found this campground in September and this year we've been there 3 times and we live in Montana, there's no place I'd rather stay. It has nice clean bathrooms and it's a great place to walk your pets, they do have 3 different areas to camp but we always use the full hook-ups

The people at check-in are always so friendly, and very helpful.

lots of things in the area to do, and the "city" isn't that far to drive to.

    Tresure Island RV Park

    It’s a parking lot…

We are here for a show at the casino and thought it would be fun to bring the camper down and glamp for the weekend. It is just a parking lot but the sites are all pull through and there is plenty of room between sites and ours was perfectly level.

We have dogs so the fact that it’s all asphalt and rock is a bit of a bummer but we are close to the exercise area and they do love little walks. It also seems to be controlling some of the normal bad pet parent behavior we see at even parks. Like letting the dogs run with out leashes or tethering them all day to bark at everything.

The sites do not have fire rings but there are some community ones and it appears the other campers brought their own smokeless fire pits to use.

There is a shuttle to the casino and at 7pm folks seemed to clear out to head over. It was honestly one of the quietest campgrounds we’ve been to on a Friday night.

The bath house is newer and super clean- not a single creepy spider web in any corners.

On Verizon I have full bars so we haven’t tried the park WiFi but we’ve been able to use our chrome cast and two iPads off my cell phone with zero issues. Because it’s in a river valley the air tv single is terrible so we are glad to have the chrome cast with us- since the forecast called for a raining day.

    St. Croix Bluffs Regional Park

    Great family campground

Washington County, which manages campgrounds at both the Lake Elmo Park Reserve and St Croix Bluffs Regional Park, does a great job of maintaining campgrounds, trails, and bathroom facilities at both parks. St Croix Bluffs is right along the St. Croix river - in the summer you can hang out at the sandy beach on the river and in the fall there are many trails to enjoy fall color.

There are multiple areas in the modern campground - one section is for larger rigs that has 50 amp service and water at each site, most sites in the other loops have 20 or 30 amp electric service, and there are a few non-electric tent-only sites as well. The park prohibits both pets and alcohol! There is both a volleyball court and nice play structure in the modern campground.

We camped over MEA break (mid October) at site #4 this year and liked how close it was to the bathroom building. There is a lot of open space behind the parking/tent pad on this site, which made it a perfect spot for the kids to run and play without running close to other camper's sites. Sites 1, 2, 4, and 6 have similar amounts of open space behind the campsites.

In the past we've stayed here as part of a group in the group campsite. The group campsites at this park are some of the best I've stayed in - they include sand volleyball courts, a covered picnic shelter with electricity, a primitive toilet, and access to a large play structure nearby.

    St. Croix Bluffs Regional Park

    Great for group trip

This place has two group sites the one we stayed at Birch Hollow, hosts up to 20 campers and the other one up to 50. We absolutely loved this place, it was clean and separated from the other campers. Our site has a large picnic shelter with 6 picnic tables two grills and it’s own volleyball place. We also had a portable toilet included which was amazingly clean! The fire pit had two charming log benches and a ton of room for extra chairs. Most important we had electric hook ups and drinking water right on the site. I liked this spot because there is so much space to spread out, we had 5 tents set up and room to spare. A few down sides are that the nearest bathroom were about 1/4 mile down the road and they were closed:( so we kept having to drive even further into the park where the other campers stayed to use those bathrooms and showers...which were very clean but still it would be nice to have more than one portable toilet or at least have the closest bathhouse open... for the group sites. Another downside is YOU CANT BRING ALCOHOL OR PETS! I love my pooch but sadly she had to stay home with a dog sitter, and I love my piña colada’s but I could not enjoy them either... The beach was very nice to swim in, but was a bit crowded no surprise In mid July. And the trails were nice also... however, apparently there had been some bear sightings when we went, be ware of the bears I guess. We didn’t spot any on the trail but we did get visited by raccoons both nights so be sure to clean and put away food AND garbage before calling it a night. Will be coming back soon!

Guide to Eau Galle Lake

Highland Ridge Campground at Eau Galle Reservoir sits approximately 1,100 feet above sea level in Pierce County, Wisconsin. The campground's topography features rolling hills and deciduous forest that provides dense shade coverage throughout summer months. Explore hiking trails: Several connecting trails from 0.5-2 miles long wind through the campground and surrounding forest. "There are several short hiking trails. I give this campground 4 stars instead of 5 because Eau Galle Reservoir (Lake George) is about a 10-minute drive from the campground," explains Lee D. from Highland Ridge.

Visit nearby attractions: The surrounding Amish country offers cultural experiences within a 10-15 minute drive. "Beautiful Amish country, green, green, green, beside the lake...this place is a little off the beaten path, but a great place to stay while driving through WI," shares Chelsie N.

What campers like

Spacious, private sites: The generous spacing between campsites consistently receives positive feedback. "The sites are large and very well shaded for privacy," notes Courtney C. at Highland Ridge - Eau Galle Reservoir.

Clean facilities: Bathroom cleanliness stands out compared to other campgrounds in the region. "Very clean, well maintained sites and group shelter area. The staff are very frirndly and knowledgable, but also respectful of the sites," says Brigid K. at Highland Ridge.

What you should know

Seasonal considerations: August brings increased mosquito activity due to the wooded environment. "Aside from the plentiful bugs (in August), we enjoyed our two-night stay at this campground!" shares Lee D. from Highland Ridge Campground.

Limited amenities: While most sites have electric hookups, there are no water or sewer connections at individual sites. "There is a dump station that includes a potable water filling station. There are water spigots in the camping areas," explains reviewer Mary S.

Tips for camping with families

Tips from RVers

Site selection considerations: Certain sites accommodate larger rigs better than others. "All sites are gravel/dirt (except for the ADA-accessible site), and most are very generous in size. Our site (7) sloped down but leveled out with plenty of room for our campervan at the bottom," explains Lee D. about Highland Ridge.

Solar limitations: The dense tree coverage affects solar panel efficiency. "First thing you need to know: It's completely in the woods, and sites are FULLY shaded. This is not a good place for solar panels, but almost all sites are electric," advises Mary S.

Dump station information: A convenient dump station is available near the entrance. "There is a little dump station near the entrance where we got potable water and will dump on the way out," shares Laurel, highlighting the pet-friendly camping amenities near Eau Galle Lake that RVers appreciate.
