At Brunet Island, "you can kayak on the river and in-between the islands where the water is very calm and full of lily pads and wildlife," as one visitor described. Many campgrounds offer boat launches, fishing piers, and equipment rentals, with several restricting motorized watercraft to maintain tranquility. Reicks Lake Park

    Didn’t stay the night

Based on picture, we planed to stay at this campsite. It is right in the side of the highway, so too much noise and traffic for us. The picture this site provides is actually the other side of highway, over a hill, so you can’t see it from campsite. but there’s a view of marshlands. It’s $20, have showers and toilets. There’s a small playground for kids. We came across people That said they camp there all the time and love it.

    Butternut Park

    Well maintained city park

About a dozen sites with picnic tables on a grassy large circle. About half or more have electric hookups. Toilets are a short walk past the campground entrance.

    Holden Park Campground

    Peaceful, Friendly Camping

A friendly campground host and wonderful county staff keep this little campground in good shape. Updated in 2025 with a new shower/restroom facility, fire rings, paved drive, and playground equipment. There are 20 sites, most of them will need some leveling for rvs. Generous firewood available for $5. Not many mosquitoes. ATT LTE cell 3 bars.

    Lake Wissota State Park Campground

    Decent for price

It was a very nice campground, it is a very big campground. Unfortunately the beach is not very clean and there are ground bees on the trail.

    Eagle Ridge Campground

Okay for night, safe clean campground

The spots were narrow and opened up to neighbors. We were fortunate to have no neighbor on either side, but I could see how that would limit privacy. Laundry was clean but small only 2 washer/2 dryer and no fan in room….really humid in evening and you didn’t want to open door due to bugs. Bathhouse clean….decent rec area for kids including sand volleyball court.

River walk trail…not detailed in paperwork. Trail is just ok, a bit overgrown and lots of bugs. We made it a good ways in and felt like we were parallel to River, but it’s so thick with growth…you can just make it out through brush. I was not prepared with flip flops so I turned back. Unknown if nice view at end.

    Chapman Park Campground

    Nice place

We pulled in on a Sunday night and all but had the place to ourselves. Our site was on a small, beautiful lake and close to the bathrooms. We had a slight breeze and very few bugs. I am not sure if I would stay there for a full week and keep busy. But I wish my town had a park with everything that this one has.

    Tarrant City Park

    Amazing Campground

The campground is super easy to find and right outside of Durand. 🏕️🌲🌳 There are plenty of places to shop, grab ice or fire wood etc. 🛒🔥🧊 There is wifi from the baseball diamond near by. ⚾📶 There are not showers so make sure to prepare for that. 🚿🚫 I suggest using thr bathroom as it has drains and stalls. 🚽🚿 I used a solar camping shower to heat water. ☀️🚿 All sites have electricity hookups as well. 💡🔌 The public pool is also near by as well as the walking trail. 🏊‍♀️🚶‍♀️ The tent sites are $20 a night and the RV sites are $45 you can pay on site. ⛺💲💰

    Clear Lake City Park

    Nice park!!

Such a cute little city park!! Tent loop and camper loop are quite separated so be sure to watch the signs when you're coming in! Fire pits and picnic tables at each site. Outhouse and picnic shelter in the tent loop. Looks like the beach and playground is in or close to the camper loop but I didn't make it over there in the time I had here! Would definitely return if it's on my trip route in the future!!

Guide to Chippewa Falls

Chippewa Falls camping areas follow a seasonal pattern with high humidity in summer months when mosquito populations peak. Most camping facilities open from April through October with varying site conditions across county and private offerings. Cellular signal strength varies considerably on the outskirts of town, particularly at primitive sites where tree canopy affects reception quality.

What to do

Water sports on Lake Wissota: Lake Wissota State Park Campground offers easy water access for various activities. "Beautiful shaded campground with semi private sites. Nice beach that is a walkable distance from the sites. Lots of walking, biking and horse trails that are full of wild berries," notes Donella L. The lake supports both motorized and non-motorized watercraft.

Creek tubing opportunities: At O'Neil Creek Campground, the natural waterway creates a unique recreation option. "The natural creek that doubles as a lazy river is great," shares Darren L. Tubing is especially popular during summer months when water levels are adequate, with rentals available on-site.

Biking through trail networks: Regional trails connect multiple camping areas. At Brunet Island State Park Campground, visitors can access dedicated paths. One camper noted, "The park has a beach and volleyball area. Great for large group get togethers." Many trails are suitable for families with children and offer connections to nearby towns.

What campers like

Private waterfront sites: Many campers value the secluded water-access sites at Brunet Island State Park Campground. As Rachel T. reports, "The North Loop has beautiful waterfront sites! The bathrooms are amazingly clean and for some reason the whole place was mosquito free!" Sites along water bodies tend to book quickly during summer months.

Clean facilities despite rural settings: Campgrounds maintain consistent standards for restrooms and common areas. "The bathroom/shower facilities were very clean and centrally located, pit toilets were provided at much closer intervals, and there were lots of water fountains located throughout the entire park," writes Julie P. about Lake Wissota State Park Campground.

Proximity to towns for supplies: Eagle Ridge Campground offers convenience with its location. "Walking path to an area that overlooks the Chippewa River was nice," notes Ben M. Most campgrounds are within 20 minutes of grocery stores or basic supplies in Chippewa Falls.

What you should know

Site privacy varies significantly: Campsite separation differs widely between facilities. At Pine Harbor Campground, "Site was a nice size, we have a smaller pull behind. They were really close to each other," reports Cody S. Research site maps before booking if privacy is important.

Water access points aren't always swim-friendly: Beach quality varies at different locations. At Brunet Island, "The only down side was that the 'beach' is not real swimmer friendly. No sand at all, lots of rocks. The boat launch was actually better to swim at," according to Rachel T.

Seasonal insect patterns: Bugs are common throughout the area, particularly in wooded or waterfront sites. "Very woodsy! Mosquitoes, gnats, and bugs galore," warns Hannah E. about Lake Wissota. Most experienced campers bring appropriate repellents for summer stays.

Tips for camping with families

Shallow water play areas: Some campgrounds offer kid-friendly water features. Chapman Park Campground provides "nice, quiet campground between 2 small lakes and next to a deer park," according to Carol. The waterfront areas typically have gradual entry points suitable for younger children.

Playground access: Many facilities maintain dedicated play equipment. "There is a lighted park for kids to play at night and plenty of fishing," notes Scott J. about Chapman Park Campground. Most family-oriented sites position play areas within sight of common camping loops.

Nature exploration opportunities: Wildlife viewing is accessible at several campsite areas near Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin. "The waterfront is beautiful with a nice picturesque bridge to a little island," David K. writes about Chapman Park, which also features a deer park where children can observe animals safely.

Tips from RVers

Hookup reliability: Electric service varies between campgrounds. At Harstad Park, visitors should note it "has pavilion due to get electricity in July 2023? Canoe/kayak launch on the Eau Claire River. New playground equipment 2022. 27 large rustic sites, firewood available for sale onsite!! No electric but great rustic camping," according to debe K.

Satellite connectivity considerations: Tree cover affects satellite service at many sites. At Eagle Ridge Campground, one reviewer highlights: "This campground has a large grassy area - that gives a 100% clear obstruction for Starlink. We work full time, so this was important for us. HOWEVER, the other half of the campground is within a super treed area, so we got to pick!"

Site size accommodations: Larger rigs require careful site selection. Eagle Ridge Campground works well for bigger vehicles as noted by a visitor: "Very clean, quiet, great amenities. We stayed one with ones day notice after Labor Day. The site was waterfront and one hr prior to arriving experienced a mechanical problem with our tow vehicle. We made it to the campground. They were extremely helpful."
