    Dash Point State Park Campground

    Hidden Gem

This campground is hidden in the middle of a major Western Washington city, Federal Way. Once in the campground, you would have no idea that you are surrounded by a sprawling metropolitan area.

The campsites are small but private. They do allow for campfires but you should bring your own firewood.

There is a trail that follows a creek down to the shoreline. If you are into geocaching we found a few along the trail. Depending on the season this trail can be quite muddy.

    Dash Point State Park Campground

Lots of Water Views, Nice Area of Federal Way, Unique Individual Sites

Lots of water views and hiking - scope out the area if it's not crowded and get one of those sites. Federal Way is nice and near, so you've got museums and zoos within the general vicinity too. We liked the tall trees and that each site was different in size and shape. As long as it's not PACKED, this is as nice as just about anything you'd find. Yeah.

    Dash Point State Park Campground

    Dash Point Camping

I would like tell you a few reasons why Dash Point made it a fantastic weekend for us. The camping site had all hookups for our 22 ft. Trailer. The park is close to Federal Way and Tacoma, but you wouldn't even know those cities were only minutes away. We hiked to the Inlet and beach.
My critique is if you have a larger vehicle then 22 ft. you may want a pull through space since the roads are a little narrow to back into. No Verizon access, unsure about other services.
We enjoyed our site and the camp ground.

    Silver Springs Campground

    New Favorite Spot

This is my new favorite spot to camp in Washington. The spaces are well distributed, the location right next to the river is beautiful and the site staff were extremely gracious. I’d strongly recommend picking a number between 2 and 10 as those are the closest sights to the river if you’re looking to enjoy the sounds of the water. There is also a full bathroom at around the mid 20s if you’d prefer a functional toilet system.

    Lake Pleasant RV Park

    Best option near seattle

There aren’t many rv parks that are close (35ish mins) to Seattle but this is the best option. Office staff is friendly, bathrooms are clean, laundry is cheap ($1 wash), maintenance staff is constantly tending to the grounds, full hook ups, and cute (short) hiking paths surrounding the park. The lake is more of a murky pond and the geese are happy residents here so expect a lot of goose poop at any spot near the water. There’s also no dog park.

    American Heritage Campground

    Great RV site

Comfortable peaceful if it had wifi it would be perfect. The dog park is a wonderful addition.

What to do

Paddling and water activities: Dash Point State Park Campground provides excellent beach access for kayaking and paddle boarding. "Facilities were good and trails around are fun and easy enough for me and 2 kids. The beach and its tides are why we came," notes Ingrid M., highlighting the park's water-focused appeal.

Beach exploration: Saltwater State Park Campground offers a small but accessible marine environment. "The day use area on the water is really nice," states Brooke H., though she cautions the park "is in a weird area and close to the Hwy overpass."

Hiking through forest trails: Penrose Point State Park Campground features multiple hiking paths with Sound views. Justin L. found the trails "pleasant as were the shoreside views of the Sound," making it ideal for day hikes while maintaining a home base at your campsite.

What campers like

Privacy between sites: Despite proximity to urban areas, campers appreciate the secluded feel of sites at Kanaskat-Palmer State Park. "Quiet campground with decent privacy between sites... We could hear trains at night but that didn't bother us," shares Rachel, emphasizing the sense of seclusion.

Clean facilities: Visitors consistently mention well-maintained amenities. "Bathrooms are super nice - each is private with a shower. Camp staff were pleasant and helpful," notes Julie M. about Kanaskat-Palmer State Park.

Proximity to urban services: Many campgrounds offer wilderness feel with city convenience. "I spent a weekend tent camping at Dash Point State Park, and honestly, it was a great time even though I completely failed to plan any meals. Thankfully, civilization is only about 15 minutes away," reports Saraj B.

What you should know

Reservation requirements: Most dog friendly campgrounds near Federal Way require advance booking, especially during summer months. "Sites require advance reservations, especially during peak summer months when pet-friendly accommodations fill quickly," according to the park service.

Noise considerations: Game Farm Wilderness Campground offers year-round camping but has strict entry policies. "This looked like a pretty good campground. I could see open tenting spots from the road, even! But I was unable to get in early in the evening with nowhere else to go. Too strict!" warns Jonathan H.

Weather preparation: The Puget Sound region experiences frequent rainfall between October and April. Park rangers recommend waterproof tent footprints and rain flies even during summer months when unexpected showers occur.

Tips for camping with families

River access options: Look for sites near water features for kid-friendly activities. Kanaskat-Palmer State Park offers safe water play areas. "Each site seems to have a trail connecting to the outer trail that runs along the river. Big entertainment for three boys who explored the woods and played on the rocks and in the eddy pools," shares Julie M.

Beach play areas: Dash Point State Park provides sand areas for children. "Really cute camp spot and play area!! Pet friendly and dog park! Very nice beach and area!!" reports Carla S., highlighting the kid-friendly environment.

Site selection for families: Request sites away from main roads or facilities for quieter family camping. "Our site was near the entrance so traffic was heavy at times. Next trip we'll stay farther in," advises Adrienne Q. about Penrose Point State Park.

Tips from RVers

RV park amenities: Sun Outdoors Gig Harbor offers full hookups and pet facilities. "They even had a dog wash," notes Sunflower E., adding the park was "Clean, friendly staff, everything we needed and more!"

Hookup availability: Not all sites offer full RV connections. At Kanaskat-Palmer State Park, Shay F. advises "Hook ups are electric only, bring your water. The first time we went we did not know and our Basecamp's heat runs via the hot water heater. It was cold!"

Level sites: Many RVers mention challenges with uneven terrain. "I only took away a star because it was advertised as ok for a Motorhome but the gravel pull through was so not level the jacks pushed the front tires 6 inches off the ground," warns Cody F. about Kanaskat-Palmer State Park.
