Okay but not great - especially since it’s been the highest priced campground we’ve stayed in.

We were graciously greeted by a neighbor who shared a few local favorites for biking , water access & historic gems. Shouldn’t the office make that available? We never saw or heard from a staff member for the three nights we stayed. We did speak with office staff to make the reservation who told us we’d be across the street for lake access for paddleboards. It was impractical to walk the boards. We couldn’t find close access. Having a handout to show your guests where to go would have been helpful. We did drive and pay to get into the Pace Bend County Park. The park was well worth the $3/person senior access fee. There are also mountain bike trails, but too warm & humid for us to bike.

The bathrooms & laundry were clean but old & could use a bit of TLC.

The campground is forest service-like, some gravel and dirt. There’s lots of green including the trees. The large grassed area that surrounded our site, #1 could have been better kept. Seeds that looked like cockle burs or goats heads were ubiquitous making it difficult or impossible to walk on the grass, especially for our small dog. We were constantly tending to his feet.

At $60/nt, the most we ever paid for a site, we expected luxury. As Thousand trails members & dry campers, we’re accustomed to primitive conditions. But not at that price.,

Frequently Asked Questions

How does Hill Country Lakes RV Campground compare to other Texas Hill Country RV parks?

Hill Country Lakes RV Campground is characterized by its cozy, intimate setting compared to some of the larger Hill Country RV resorts. It offers a more personal experience with a community atmosphere, particularly around the shared fire pit area. The campground is smaller and quieter than many alternatives in the region. While it may not have as many resort-style amenities as some competitors, it compensates with a friendly environment. Staff availability can be inconsistent compared to more commercially operated parks in the area. The campground is suitable for campers seeking a simpler, more laid-back Hill Country experience rather than a full-service resort setting.

What is the best time of year to visit Hill Country Lakes RV Campground?

The best time to visit Hill Country Lakes RV Campground is during spring (March-May) and fall (September-November) when Texas Hill Country enjoys moderate temperatures ideal for outdoor activities. Summer months can be extremely hot, though water activities in nearby lakes provide relief. Winter offers milder temperatures than northern states, making it a potential option for snowbirds. The campground's community fire pit would be particularly enjoyable during cooler evenings in spring and fall. Consider that summer holidays may be busier, while shoulder seasons might offer a quieter experience with comfortable weather for exploring the surrounding area.

What lakes or water access is available near Hill Country Lakes RV Campground?

There is water access available near Hill Country Lakes RV Campground, though you might need to get specific directions from locals or fellow campers. The Texas Hill Country area is known for its various lakes and water features, with Lake Travis being one of the prominent bodies of water in the Spicewood region. For the best water recreation spots, ask about local favorites for swimming, boating, or fishing when you arrive. The campground's name suggests proximity to lakes, but you'll want to confirm exact access points and distances with the office for the most up-to-date information.

What amenities are available at Hill Country Lakes RV Campground in Spicewood, TX?

Hill Country Lakes RV Campground offers several amenities to enhance your camping experience. The campground features clean facilities and a welcoming community fire pit that's perfect for evening gatherings. The staff and owners are known for being friendly and helpful. While specific amenities are somewhat limited compared to larger resorts, the cozy atmosphere and well-maintained facilities make it a comfortable place to stay, particularly for overnight or short visits. For detailed information about hookups, laundry, or other specific amenities, contacting the campground office directly is recommended.
