    The Retreat at Shady Creek

    Awesome RV resort in town

We normally don't do RV resorts, but this one is awesome. The sites are fairly spacious, especially compared to other RV resorts. Big rig friendly with many different style spots to choose from. We always choose the fence line back in sites, and they always come with plenty of grass to walk the dogs. The fence backs up to residential, but that doesn't bother us. Even the back in sites are plenty spacious for a big rig and your tow vehicle and another vehicle. The park is very roomy and easy to navigate and park.

The staff are always so nice and they make late check in a breeze, which we appreciate after a long, tiring day of towing. This RV resort is the only place we've ever stayed in that allows RV washing! For full-time RVers, that's pretty huge. They also have a mail room if you need to receive a package on the road.

The resort is split up into two areas by the road, the Retreat area is more resort like and caters to short term stays, while the other half has long term stays. They both look nice and are clean and beautiful. We will continue to visit every time we pass through the area.

    Lake Park Campground

    Nice Place

This place is well-maintained and a fairly nice park. Family friendly and there is a lake and playground within walking distance. The staff is courteous. We did not use any of the facilities, except dump station.

There are specific sites for 30 and 50. The middle spaces for 30 amp have no shade. For 50 amp avoid sites 59-63, 0 shade. There are no sewer hookups at the site. Only dumping station.

Reservations is done by calling the park, no online.

    Holiday Park Campground

Hard to Believe You’re Next to a Big City

When we got to Benbrook, we used the campground(CG) website instructions as we didn’t see any signage for the CG on US377 coming in from the east. We turned right onto Pearl Ranch Rd and followed it to the Holiday COE entrance about 2 miles straight down the road. Check in was easy and the guy who checked us in was very informative. We needed to fill our freshwater tank and he pointed out on the map the two dump stations with potable water. We proceeded to the dump station just inside the gate to find out there was not a potable water spigot just the usual rinse hose. We went back to the entrance and he informed us the park ranger had told him they are on well water and thus the water at the dump station was safe, even though there was a sign clearly stating it was not safe to drink. We were then told we could go to an empty camp site that had water hook-ups and fill up there, which we did. Not sure what we would have done if this had been a busy weekend with all of the water sites full. We then proceeded to pull through site 72 with 30/50 AMP. There was plenty of space for our 39’ fifth wheel and F-450 on the asphalt pad. The site had a covered cement patio with picnic table, and bbq/fire pit that we couldn't use due to a burn ban. Site 73 was the only other site in our little cul-de-sac. For the intent of this review, we toured the campground specifically looking for free standing water spigots, but didn't find any. The showers/restroom were old but in workable shape. If you want to stay where we did in sites 72-75 they were definitely electric only, contrary to what other reviews mentioned. There were water spigots at the sites but they had been capped off. Sites 76, 77,& 78 were also electric only and sat up on a hill with a slight lake view but are across the street from a neighborhood that backs up to the park. Sites 83- 93 had water and electric as well as some of the sites near the front of the park. We got 3 bars on Verizon and a whole bunch of OTA channels. We enjoyed the view of the lake and privacy at our site since we were the only ones there the whole time of our stay during the week.

    Traders Village RV Park

    Clean and big

We stayed 4 nights in site 24, PT FHU on a level concrete pad with a picnic table and plot of grass. $40/ni after Good Sam. The park is split into two sections; the side we are in is next to an airfield and the other side is by a small dog run (next time, I'll request this section bc I'm traveling with my dogs). They have a store and the laundry is clean and well priced ($1.25/wash, $0.25/12 min dry). The wifi is strong and the park is quiet. There are some long term, possibly permanent, tenants, but their sites are well kept.

    Lake Tawakoni State Park Campground

    Nice state park

We don't stay at too many TX State Parks because of the added day use fee. We decided on this park due to its proximity to family in this area. The site was level and on a concrete pad with a parking spot right next to it. We did have a neighbor, so the space between us was fair. Our cell signal with Verizon was poor, so it made work difficult. Our site had W/E and there is a dump station. We did have a picnic table and fire ring. There are some sites that back up to a part of the lake. Noise level was pretty low. Unfortunately, we only spent 1 full day here, so we didn't really get to enjoy any of the hiking trails or do any fishing. We will definitely have to stay again in the future.

Guide to Lancaster

RV parks in Lancaster, Texas are accessible via Interstate 20 and Highway 342, placing campers within 20 minutes of downtown Dallas and 35 minutes from Fort Worth. The region's flat terrain makes for easy parking and setup, while summer temperatures regularly exceed 95°F from June through September. Winter camping from November through February brings mild 50-65°F days with occasional freezing nights.

What to do

Fishing opportunities: The small pond at Bluebonnet Ridge RV Park offers catch-and-release fishing with no license required. "There's a nice little pond you can fish in, catch-and-release only, no license required," notes one reviewer who appreciated this convenient recreation option.

Flea market exploration: The massive market at Traders Village provides extensive shopping opportunities for campers. "One of the biggest flee markets around and it's 2 days of walking and shopping," reports a camper who stayed at the adjoining RV park.

Sports facilities: Tennis and basketball courts are available for active campers in some parks. At Bluebonnet Ridge, "the basketball/tennis courts had just been resurfaced" according to a recent visitor who appreciated the maintained recreational facilities.

What campers like

Security features: Gated access provides peace of mind at several Lancaster area RV parks. A visitor at Northside RV Resort noted, "The park is gated and secure. Each shower has its own toilet and vanity behind a lockable door."

Shade coverage: Mature trees throughout Treetops RV Resort provide natural cooling during hot Texas summers. "All of the amenities you would want in a park, plus lots and lots of trees," mentions a reviewer who considered it "maybe the best in DFW."

Dedicated pet areas: Dog parks and walking trails accommodate four-legged campers. "There's a small dog park area. Doggie bags were provided in multiple places, and ample trash cans in which to drop them," reports a camper who spent a month at Bluebonnet Ridge.

What you should know

Highway noise: Proximity to major highways means traffic sounds are noticeable at many parks. "You're really close to I-20, you will hear the road noise. Only trucks are loud," explains a Bluebonnet Ridge visitor who also mentioned hearing a tire blowout while camping.

Bathroom availability: Not all parks offer shower facilities despite full hookups. At Plantation Place, one camper warns, "WARNING: NO BATHROOMS, NO SHOWERS. I'd have planned differently had I known."

WiFi limitations: Internet access varies significantly between parks, with some implementing usage restrictions. "The WiFi, while available, is really slow. When you connect, they track usage by hardware MAC address. Use too much, you get blocked and have to ask to be allowed back on," reports a Bluebonnet Ridge visitor.

Tips for camping with families

Playground access: Several parks offer dedicated play areas for younger visitors. At Northside RV Resort, amenities include both practical and recreational spaces: "Gated. Level pads. Quiet. Dog park. Play ground. Wifi. Cable. Lake."

Swimming options: Summer heat makes pool access important for families. "We have stayed here off and on over the last 3 years. The park is very clean, having done lots of updates. All of the amenities you would want in a park, plus lots and lots of trees. Everything is clean. Nice pool, kids playground, exercise area, clean baths and great laundry," notes a reviewer at Treetops RV Resort.

Shopping proximity: Family supply runs are convenient with major retailers nearby. A Treetops visitor points out, "Easy access to Target just around the corner, Parks mall is close by and Arlington Highlands shopping is really nice!"

Tips from RVers

Site specifics: At Dallas Hi Ho RV Park, shaded sites provide relief from Texas heat. A visitor notes it offers a "Nice private shady area in Dallas. Never would've thought I'd find something like that there."

Mail service: Extended-stay campers appreciate mail facilities at certain rv parks Lancaster, Texas. "Each visitor, even short term like us, gets a mailbox. You can go in 24/7 and check it," explains a camper who spent a month at Bluebonnet Ridge.

Site preparation: Weather considerations affect ground conditions at some parks. "When it rains, some of the driveways do get muddy. The gravel replacement helps," warns a long-term visitor describing maintenance practices at Bluebonnet Ridge RV Park.
