Most RV parks in the Lake Dallas area require reservations, particularly during summer months when proximity to the water makes them popular destinations. Several parks offer dedicated dog areas, including Waggin Tail Ranch with its dog park and pond. Sanitary dump stations are available at most locations including Destiny Dallas and Lake Point, though visitors should note that some parks enforce breed restrictions for pets. While most parks provide concrete or gravel pads, leveling equipment may be necessary at certain locations. The area experiences hot summers with limited natural shade at newer facilities. Parks located within 10-15 miles of Lake Dallas provide convenient access to urban amenities while maintaining a sense of retreat from city congestion.

      The Retreat at Shady Creek

      Awesome RV resort in town

We normally don't do RV resorts, but this one is awesome. The sites are fairly spacious, especially compared to other RV resorts. Big rig friendly with many different style spots to choose from. We always choose the fence line back in sites, and they always come with plenty of grass to walk the dogs. The fence backs up to residential, but that doesn't bother us. Even the back in sites are plenty spacious for a big rig and your tow vehicle and another vehicle. The park is very roomy and easy to navigate and park.

The staff are always so nice and they make late check in a breeze, which we appreciate after a long, tiring day of towing. This RV resort is the only place we've ever stayed in that allows RV washing! For full-time RVers, that's pretty huge. They also have a mail room if you need to receive a package on the road.

The resort is split up into two areas by the road, the Retreat area is more resort like and caters to short term stays, while the other half has long term stays. They both look nice and are clean and beautiful. We will continue to visit every time we pass through the area.

      A Plus RV Park

      Friendly Staff, Easy Highway Access

I have seen this place a million times living in the community nearby and never thought to check to see if they all tent campers. I was shocked to find out they do accommodate them so I passed through and checked out the grounds and wanted to let people know it exists!

There are two entries at the front of the property each easily accessed from the highway. Though they are gravel they are easy to navigate but do hold a little water in the rain. As you drive into the camp there are 4 main rows of camping, mostly in use by RVs however they do also accommodate tent campers. These sites can be picked up nightly or for more long term use so many people at this park have called this their home for a bit. Despite obvious signs of the long term dwellers, the grounds are clean and well maintained and don't look cluttered like some long term campgrounds will begin to look.

The site offers nice restrooms with showers, a bbq for general use, a rec room perfect for having your breakfast or dinner or perhaps a game of cards with friends and has connections for RVs up to 50 amp as well as a dump station.

For the tent camper sites are wide enough to be comfortable to move around and have scattered picnic tables. The tent camping sites are located on a grassy area next to the pond so they are not squished between big rigs and have a bit more privacy.

This site might not look as elaborate as some, but it more than makes up for the few things you do not have by its friendly staff and on site mechanic.

      TIPS:

      • Call in advance if looking for an RV site, they do have several spaces available but during certain times of the year they do fill up as they are centrally located to many things.

      • Check out the LBJ Grasslands which are nearby when visiting this location, a great get away for some outdoor activities.

      Lake Park Campground

      Nice Place

This place is well-maintained and a fairly nice park. Family friendly and there is a lake and playground within walking distance. The staff is courteous. We did not use any of the facilities, except dump station.

There are specific sites for 30 and 50. The middle spaces for 30 amp have no shade. For 50 amp avoid sites 59-63, 0 shade. There are no sewer hookups at the site. Only dumping station.

Reservations is done by calling the park, no online.

      Holiday Park Campground

Hard to Believe You’re Next to a Big City

When we got to Benbrook, we used the campground(CG) website instructions as we didn’t see any signage for the CG on US377 coming in from the east. We turned right onto Pearl Ranch Rd and followed it to the Holiday COE entrance about 2 miles straight down the road. Check in was easy and the guy who checked us in was very informative. We needed to fill our freshwater tank and he pointed out on the map the two dump stations with potable water. We proceeded to the dump station just inside the gate to find out there was not a potable water spigot just the usual rinse hose. We went back to the entrance and he informed us the park ranger had told him they are on well water and thus the water at the dump station was safe, even though there was a sign clearly stating it was not safe to drink. We were then told we could go to an empty camp site that had water hook-ups and fill up there, which we did. Not sure what we would have done if this had been a busy weekend with all of the water sites full. We then proceeded to pull through site 72 with 30/50 AMP. There was plenty of space for our 39’ fifth wheel and F-450 on the asphalt pad. The site had a covered cement patio with picnic table, and bbq/fire pit that we couldn't use due to a burn ban. Site 73 was the only other site in our little cul-de-sac. For the intent of this review, we toured the campground specifically looking for free standing water spigots, but didn't find any. The showers/restroom were old but in workable shape. If you want to stay where we did in sites 72-75 they were definitely electric only, contrary to what other reviews mentioned. There were water spigots at the sites but they had been capped off. Sites 76, 77,& 78 were also electric only and sat up on a hill with a slight lake view but are across the street from a neighborhood that backs up to the park. Sites 83- 93 had water and electric as well as some of the sites near the front of the park. We got 3 bars on Verizon and a whole bunch of OTA channels. We enjoyed the view of the lake and privacy at our site since we were the only ones there the whole time of our stay during the week.

      Traders Village RV Park

      Clean and big

We stayed 4 nights in site 24, PT FHU on a level concrete pad with a picnic table and plot of grass. $40/ni after Good Sam. The park is split into two sections; the side we are in is next to an airfield and the other side is by a small dog run (next time, I'll request this section bc I'm traveling with my dogs). They have a store and the laundry is clean and well priced ($1.25/wash, $0.25/12 min dry). The wifi is strong and the park is quiet. There are some long term, possibly permanent, tenants, but their sites are well kept.

      Thousand Trails Bay Landing

      Decent Park

As far as Thousand Trails this is an average park. There are some full hook up sites but many are partial hookups. You pick your own site which is nice but most of the full hook up sites are occupied by long term residents or annual site holders. The view of the lake is beautiful and the park is quiet. They do have a lot of amenities.

Sites: most were level, grass or gravel. Some have a view of the lake. I sprained my knee and ankle at this park because our site was so unlevel and the mud sunk our jacks a little. Our rig weighs 16,000lbs so the Class As should be careful. The ground was soft and I came out of the RV without thinking and twisted both. Medical services are within a half hour of the RV Park.

Each site had picnic tables and fire rings.

Cellular: we were able to work and stream video easily with T-Mobile and AT&T.

Amenities: Club House Shuffle Board Pool Hot Tub (closed while we were there) RV Storage Mini Golf Hiking Trails Laundry Bath House Playground Fishing WiFi

    Guide to Lake Dallas

The Lake Dallas region offers RV campers multiple options within 20 miles of the lake. The area experiences hot summers with temperatures frequently exceeding 95°F from June through August, while winter nights can drop below freezing. Most campgrounds remain open year-round with limited seasonal closures for maintenance during winter months.

    What to do

Water activities at Ray Roberts Lake: Located near Wagon Master RV Park and Alpaca Farm, visitors can enjoy fishing, boating, and swimming from April through October. "Good people, good rates, good park. Gravel sites. Good laundry and showers. North of Denton, convenient to UNT," notes Robert G.

Explore local shopping: Multiple shopping centers within 5-15 minutes of rv sites near Lake Dallas provide convenience for extended stays. "The town of Denton is nearby with plenty of grocery options, shopping, and cute restaurants. Don't miss Thai Square if you love Thai food," recommends Kelsey G. from Wagon Master.

Visit local alpaca farm: Several campgrounds offer unique animal experiences including Wagon Master's alpaca farm. "Absolutely loved the property! Great pool and club house. The staff were really friendly and helpful. Also loved that they are pet friendly!" shares Jackie M.

    What campers like

Spacious sites with private yards: Many RV parks near Lake Dallas feature larger-than-average site spacing. At Waggin Tail Ranch RV Park, "We stayed here 5 months on a work trip. Nice sites most are fenced in with big yards. A few pull thru sites unfenced," reports jamie S.

Proximity to urban amenities: The strategic location between Dallas and Fort Worth provides campers with convenient access to metropolitan amenities while maintaining distance from traffic congestion. At Shady Creek RV Park and Storage, Rafael A. appreciates that "You're right next to Frisco, Prosper, Little Elm, Savannah, and Denton."

Dedicated dog amenities: Pet-friendly facilities are common at Lake Dallas area RV parks. Jamie S. notes that Waggin Tail Ranch offers a "Nice big dog park with a pond, also a grooming and dog wash area."

    What you should know

Summer heat management: The lack of mature trees at many newer RV parks means limited natural shade during summer months. At Waggin Tail Ranch, jamie S. notes the "Only down side is the Texas heat and none of the sites have any shade trees."

Extended-stay policies vary: Some parks cater primarily to long-term residents with different rules than short-term visitors. At Destiny Dallas RV Resort, Spencer discovered: "Tried to book a weekend, turns out they are a monthly only park."

Pet restrictions: While most RV sites near Lake Dallas welcome pets, breed-specific restrictions exist at certain parks. One reviewer at Destiny Dallas RV Resort reports: "Everything says 'Pet Friendly', however when we tried to book a spot for a month they said I couldn't bring my Great Dane puppy bc of the breed and insurance."

    Tips for camping with families

Pool facilities: During hot Texas summers, swimming pools provide essential relief for families. At Northlake Village RV Park, Bob M. shares: "We stayed for a week while waiting for our house to close in late March of 2020. The office staff was taking Covid very serious as it was just being ramped up to Pandemic status."

Reliable WiFi considerations: Internet access varies significantly between parks, with some offering stronger connections than others. At Northlake Village RV Park, Pennie notes: "It was disappointing to discover that the FREE WiFi didn't work. The office was not open due to the holiday, or perhaps Covid."

Storm contingency plans: The area experiences severe weather during spring and summer months, making weather preparedness important. Michael J. from Northlake Village RV Park shares: "We evacuated from Ida to this park. Secluded quiet place near Roanoke and Grapevine."

    Tips from RVers

Site leveling needs: Many RV campgrounds near Lake Dallas have gravel or partially improved sites requiring leveling equipment. Pedro C. from Shady Creek RV Park notes: "The pads are gravel and almost level. A few guests have been here a while, did see several arrivals and departures."

Campground connectivity: Mobile service coverage varies by carrier throughout the region. Pedro C. mentions at Shady Creek: "Verizon, full bars of service!"

Weather impact on facilities: Seasonal rain can affect campground conditions, particularly at parks with gravel roads. Pedro C. observed at Lake Point RV Resort: "The paved road was beginning to break up from all the rain with pot holes and new ones beginning to pop up."
