    Oakwood RV Resort

Well run, dog friendly, good locale

Quiet, safe, good location in Fredericksburg/Texas hill country. WiFi, nice clean bathrooms with some of the best RV park showers we've run across: Hottern' hell, easy to control temp & great pressure! Leave trash bagged at site between 0800 & 1400 for pick-up (trash valet), large fenced grassed dog run divided up into 2 sections side by side (fence is about 3 or 4' with water dish & water fill + another dog park for small dogs ~2' hi fence, lots of trees but they're not everywhere (not much shade though in spots just south of pool), herd of mellow goats borders one side (ram was head-butting tree), lots of birds, laundry was clean ($1.50 wash, .25 cent per dryer round). Some spaces are tight & close, some are not & have more space. We were in a very tightly packed area & so tobacco smoke drifted into our camper, so we shut windows in that side at night for a few days. Large rigs okay. Well kept swimming pool & hot tub. Friendly office staff. There is a fountain in front & dogs are ok to splash around in but ask the front desk first. Several restaurants within walking distance (Mexican, BBQ & Italian).

Tejas Valley RV Park & Campground

    I would definitely recommend

It was our first time staying at an RV park, and this place exceeded our standards. Now we will probably compare it to other places we stay. Everything was very good, well-maintained, and in great condition. We used the laundry often, and everything worked. The staff is super helpful and friendly. I would definitely recommend Tejas Valley RV Park if you want to stay in a nice, clean place.

    Hidden View RV Park

    Great Park. Very reasonable.

Owners are very friendly and helpful! Rates are great. Not a resort but the price is right and the spots accommodate rigs of any size. Mostly long term people. Very friendly and quiet. I don't even look elsewhere when in the area.

Lost Maples State Natural Area Campground

Camp was great - spring break crowd not so much

Camp was clean and the area is awesome. Our site didn’t have much buffer from the site next to us, which usually doesn’t bother me.

Being spring break, the campground was full of kids. It’s great to see them enjoying nature, having fun, and being kids…but several of them were pretty wild without parents doing much to rein them in. Definitely not the park’s fault.

It was well patrolled, but that didn’t stop some camps from lighting camp fires even though a burn ban was in place.

Nice hiking along the river. Would love to be back during the fall.

    Memmie’s Farm

    Perfect Stop for Us

Our route got changed when our plans changed and we needed a last minute stop for a quick overnight stay. We arrived about an hour before sundown and had to leave at sunup, so we didn’t get to explore the river.

But our spot was perfect for our rooftop tent setup. Usually last minute stops put us in an RV park and this spot was so much better than that. Still felt like camping and not just a spot to park.

We could hear turkeys and coyotes and owls. We enjoyed the stars and felt safe and secure.

There was some road noise from a nearby highway, but it died down at bedtime and dust disturb our sleep.

The best part was the communication from the camp host. She gave great directions and checked on us to make sure we were good with everything. Close to Bandera for a quick breakfast before we continued our journey.

    Tree Cabins RV Resort

Nice Place to Stay: River, Town & Rocks!

This is a nice spot, off I-10 far enough to cancel out noise. Stayed here two nights. Right on the river, quiet, comfortable. Full hookups. No one was around when I checked in (Fri, 13:00) so make sure you jot down the site number they give you. I've had no issues otherwise. Some shade but not needed in early March. Don't (and won't) know about laundry or any other amenity b/c it's a short stay. For rockhounds, wow, the agate (don't know what it is exactly yet) is prolific throughout the park, in the beige-colored drives and spaces, including (especially) the riverside picnic shelter areas. Wow, what a bonanza! I didn't even have to drive anywhere. Weather is nice, park mostly empty except for the few like me and the other long-term people.

    Arch Ray on the River

    Arch Ray on the River

Very nice RV campground. But no tents. No bathroom/shower house. Level sites. Reasonably priced compatible with everything else around.I think it was like $45 a night. Driving a 32ft class c towing a gladiator. Lots of road noises up front. I'd stay farther back next time.

Turkey Sink Camping Area — Guadalupe River State Park

Great spot to soak up the Texas Hill Country

This park is located just north of San Antonio. I’d heard great things about it and am thrilled that I finally got here.

The campsites are spacious. Each loop has a bath house and it looks like all the RV sites have power and water. A central dump station is located near the exit.

This loop has a trail that leads you down to the river. But you ca also drive down to a large parking lot. It wasn’t busy in Feb

Local terrain features limestone outcroppings, cypress trees, and occasional wildlife including deer, armadillos, and various bird species.

What to do

River activities: Kerrville-Schreiner Park offers direct Guadalupe River access for swimming, fishing, and kayaking. "The Guadalupe River access for swimming, fishing, and kayaking" makes this park popular, according to Terri L., who adds that it's "a great base camp for exploring the Texas hill country."

Hiking trails: Multiple trails ranging from easy to moderate difficulty wind through local parks. At Kerrville-Schreiner Park, Kevin H. notes they have "great in-town trails" with amenities like "nice warm showers in the restrooms" for post-hike comfort.

Wildlife observation: Watch for blackbuck antelope, deer, and various birds at local parks. Jackie R. reports seeing "a deer, squirrels, and even a herd of blackbuck antelope" during her stay at Kerrville-Schreiner Park.

Disc golf: HTR TX Hill Country (formerly By the River RV Park) includes areas for disc golf among its recreational options. The park's layout allows for "plenty of space to walk the dogs" and features "lots of hiking areas for dogs along the Guadalupe River," according to Deirdre R.

What campers like

Peaceful river settings: Campsites with water views provide tranquil environments. Shirley S. from HTR TX Hill Country explains, "Our site had lovely cottonwood trees and right on the small branch of the river. Walk across small rapids and crystal clear water to another side of the park with access to the main river."

Clean facilities: Buckhorn Lake Resort maintains high standards for bathrooms and common areas. Rachel H. notes, "Two pools, one is adults only" and "Super large dog park, if you have dogs," making it appealing for various campers.

Spacious sites: Many campgrounds offer well-separated sites with room to relax. Jackie R. appreciated that at Kerrville-Schreiner Park, the "sites not overcrowded together," while Bret N. noted that Buckhorn Lake Resort has "top notch" sites that are "all concrete from what we could see."

Wildlife viewing: Watching turtles, birds, and deer adds to the camping experience. Marnie G. from HTR TX Hill Country loved "watching all the turtles on the branches in the water just below us" and enjoyed "the sound of the birds" which "made it almost idyllic."

What you should know

Seasonal considerations: Summer temperatures can reach above 95°F while winter nights may drop below 40°F. A tent camper at Texas Hill Country Resort (formerly Medina Highpoint Resort) noted that "the tent camping area is nice and quiet" with "clean bathrooms, a nice pool area and hot showers" available to tent areas.

Cell service: Reception varies significantly between campgrounds. James P. at Buckhorn Lake Resort mentioned it has "easy on/off interstate" access, "fast check in," and "level sites," but didn't note cell coverage.

Reservation requirements: Most sites fill quickly during peak seasons (March-May and September-November). Mark M. found sites at Kerrville-Schreiner Park "mostly level" with "LOTS of trees, birds," and noted the sites were "quiet."

Noise factors: Proximity to highways, airports, or entertainment areas can affect site selection. Brad E. at Kerrville-Schreiner Park advised, "We stay down by the river. The road was real close to the site that we stayed in... we will go back and stay on the upper hillside" where it's "much quieter."
