    The Retreat at Shady Creek

    Awesome RV resort in town

We normally don't do RV resorts, but this one is awesome. The sites are fairly spacious, especially compared to other RV resorts. Big rig friendly with many different style spots to choose from. We always choose the fence line back in sites, and they always come with plenty of grass to walk the dogs. The fence backs up to residential, but that doesn't bother us. Even the back in sites are plenty spacious for a big rig and your tow vehicle and another vehicle. The park is very roomy and easy to navigate and park.

The staff are always so nice and they make late check in a breeze, which we appreciate after a long, tiring day of towing. This RV resort is the only place we've ever stayed in that allows RV washing! For full-time RVers, that's pretty huge. They also have a mail room if you need to receive a package on the road.

The resort is split up into two areas by the road, the Retreat area is more resort like and caters to short term stays, while the other half has long term stays. They both look nice and are clean and beautiful. We will continue to visit every time we pass through the area.

    Lake Park Campground

    Nice Place

This place is well-maintained and a fairly nice park. Family friendly and there is a lake and playground within walking distance. The staff is courteous. We did not use any of the facilities, except dump station.

There are specific sites for 30 and 50. The middle spaces for 30 amp have no shade. For 50 amp avoid sites 59-63, 0 shade. There are no sewer hookups at the site. Only dumping station.

Reservations is done by calling the park, no online.

    Holiday Park Campground

Hard to Believe You’re Next to a Big City

When we got to Benbrook, we used the campground(CG) website instructions as we didn’t see any signage for the CG on US377 coming in from the east. We turned right onto Pearl Ranch Rd and followed it to the Holiday COE entrance about 2 miles straight down the road. Check in was easy and the guy who checked us in was very informative. We needed to fill our freshwater tank and he pointed out on the map the two dump stations with potable water. We proceeded to the dump station just inside the gate to find out there was not a potable water spigot just the usual rinse hose. We went back to the entrance and he informed us the park ranger had told him they are on well water and thus the water at the dump station was safe, even though there was a sign clearly stating it was not safe to drink. We were then told we could go to an empty camp site that had water hook-ups and fill up there, which we did. Not sure what we would have done if this had been a busy weekend with all of the water sites full. We then proceeded to pull through site 72 with 30/50 AMP. There was plenty of space for our 39’ fifth wheel and F-450 on the asphalt pad. The site had a covered cement patio with picnic table, and bbq/fire pit that we couldn't use due to a burn ban. Site 73 was the only other site in our little cul-de-sac. For the intent of this review, we toured the campground specifically looking for free standing water spigots, but didn't find any. The showers/restroom were old but in workable shape. If you want to stay where we did in sites 72-75 they were definitely electric only, contrary to what other reviews mentioned. There were water spigots at the sites but they had been capped off. Sites 76, 77,& 78 were also electric only and sat up on a hill with a slight lake view but are across the street from a neighborhood that backs up to the park. Sites 83- 93 had water and electric as well as some of the sites near the front of the park. We got 3 bars on Verizon and a whole bunch of OTA channels. We enjoyed the view of the lake and privacy at our site since we were the only ones there the whole time of our stay during the week.

    Traders Village RV Park

    Clean and big

We stayed 4 nights in site 24, PT FHU on a level concrete pad with a picnic table and plot of grass. $40/ni after Good Sam. The park is split into two sections; the side we are in is next to an airfield and the other side is by a small dog run (next time, I'll request this section bc I'm traveling with my dogs). They have a store and the laundry is clean and well priced ($1.25/wash, $0.25/12 min dry). The wifi is strong and the park is quiet. There are some long term, possibly permanent, tenants, but their sites are well kept.

    The Vineyards Campground & Cabins

    Very nice

Our site had a concrete pad for our rv. Full hookups are very nice. While we were here nightly thunderstorms came in. The staff were on top of it as they drove around alerting everyone about the wind approaching. Clean laundry room and restrooms. We didn’t use the store due to corona fears and didn’t need to. Pet friendly. Quiet at night. I would absolutely stay here and recommend it to anyone. The only spring time issue is lake flooding will close it.

Guide to DeSoto

RV camping near DeSoto, Texas offers convenient access to the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex at an elevation of approximately 500 feet above sea level. The region experiences hot, humid summers with temperatures regularly exceeding 90°F and mild winters where freezing temperatures are rare. Seasonal rainfall peaks in spring and fall, which can impact site conditions at campgrounds without concrete pads.

What to do

Lake activities: Northside RV Resort features a man-made lake with jogging trails and a fountain. "We visited in November and it was quiet with a nice view of the water," notes Iris A., who appreciated the park's cleanliness and security features.

Flea market shopping: Traders Village hosts one of the largest flea markets in the region. "Our 2nd visit and it is great, everything you need to live here on site. Not to mention, one of the biggest flee markets around and it's 2 days of walking and shopping," says Alejandro G.

Sports events: Camp near major sporting venues when staying at Treetops RV Resort. "There is major shopping just up the street, Cowboys football and Rangers baseball only a few miles away, plus 6 Flags amusement park," explains one camper who found the location ideal for sports fans.

Fishing opportunities: Bluebonnet Ridge RV Park permits catch-and-release fishing in their pond without requiring a license. "There's a nice little pond you can fish in, catch-and-release only, no license required," shares a visitor who spent a month at the park.

What campers like

Clean facilities: Northside RV Resort maintains impressive bathrooms and shower facilities. "Each shower has its own toilet and vanity behind a lockable door," notes Angela R., who stayed during November and particularly appreciated the park's cleanliness despite cold, rainy weather.

Shaded sites: Treetops RV Resort provides ample tree cover for summer comfort. "The trees are beautiful and add great shade. Most of spaces are pull through and very easy to setup at," shares Jessica F., who found the private bath houses and updated fitness room additional benefits.

Secure environment: Safety measures at several parks give campers peace of mind. "The park was very clean with four bathroom/shower rooms and laundry room as well... The park also has a gate with a code needed to enter," reports a visitor who appreciated Northside's security features.

Park maintenance: Bluebonnet Ridge RV Park demonstrates ongoing upkeep efforts. "The park was clearly being maintained... Anytime someone left, or a spot was empty, new gravel was being dumped and leveled," observes a month-long guest who noted the recently resurfaced basketball and tennis courts.

What you should know

Reservation policies: Advance planning is essential during peak periods. "Called into the office like we have every morning and was told 'sorry you have to leave we reserved your spot.' ON MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND!!!!" shares one frustrated camper about their Bluebonnet Ridge experience.

Site conditions: Concrete pads aren't universal at area campgrounds. "When it rains, some of the driveways do get muddy. The gravel replacement helps," notes a guest at Bluebonnet Ridge, while another mentions, "We stayed in the month of November. It was cold and rainy but the park did not disappoint."

WiFi limitations: Internet service varies between parks. "The WiFi, while available, is really slow. When you connect, they track usage by hardware MAC address. Use too much, you get blocked and have to ask to be allowed back on," explains a camper at Bluebonnet Ridge, while another guest at Northlake Village RV Park found "the FREE WiFi didn't work."

Bathroom availability: Not all parks offer shower facilities. "WARNING: NO BATHROOMS, NO SHOWERS. Quiet park with easy access to Dallas... never in all my years have I been to a park with no bathrooms or showers," notes Jackie E. about Plantation Place, recommending travelers plan accordingly.

Tips for camping with families

Swimming options: Several parks provide seasonal pool access. "My boys jumped in the pool even though it was 55° outside and said it was a fun experience," shares Jessica F. about her family's experience at Treetops, while another camper noted that Bluebonnet Ridge has a pool that wasn't open during their fall visit.

Playground amenities: Plantation Place offers child-friendly recreation areas. "The park is alway immaculate. Friendly staff," notes a reviewer who appreciated the well-maintained grounds suitable for family activities.

Noise considerations: Highway proximity affects some campgrounds. "You're really close to I-20, you will hear the road noise. Only trucks are loud," warns a camper about Bluebonnet Ridge, suggesting families select sites further from major roadways for quieter evenings.

Storage solutions: Overflow parking areas help keep family campsites organized. "There's ample overflow parking and trailer storage space so you don't have to crowd your campsite," notes a visitor at Bluebonnet Ridge who appreciated the extra room.

Tips from RVers

Big rig access: Concrete pads with ample space simplify parking large vehicles. "Great for trailers n big rigs clean neat and new," notes Mark F. about Northside RV Resort, while another RVer found their site "a little awkward to get in because of the corner and the speed bumps, but not impossible."

Parking assistance: Staff support helps inexperienced RVers. "The staff was nice, friendly and helped us back in as we are still newbies," shares Sybel P. about their experience at Treetops RV Resort, where their spot was well shaded despite feeling slightly unlevel.

Long-term considerations: Some parks cater more to extended stays than overnight visits. "From my own observations, it looks like this particular park caters to long term rentals more than it does short term," explains a holiday visitor to Northlake Village who encountered permanent residents.

Pet facilities: Dog parks and designated pet areas vary between campgrounds. "Super comfortable stay and the Rv park owner is super nice and straight with you. Pets are welcomed and all amenities are there for tenants," notes Alex E. about Shady Acres RV Park, which welcomes pets and offers all essential amenities.
