Santee State Park

Santee State Park is a beautiful forested park by the lake. There is a visitor/registration center as well as a store on the lake with many activities: boating, fishing, kayaking, biking, kids playground, walking trails, rental cabins. There is electric and water hookup at the sites and sewer and dumpster on exit. The facilities are centrally located and clean. There are variety of pull in and back in sites, as well as tent camping. Our visit here was peaceful, quiet and enjoyable. Will go back.

Close to perfection

This is a really, really nice private campground. You get a ton of amenities for the very reasonable fee: well-maintained bathrooms, a swimming pool, a laundry room. The property is beautiful too. Plenty of trees and grass, a picnic area, a couple of hammocks, and lakes that host a large population of Muscovy ducks. These were fun to watch. They're quite tame and will come right up to you.

It had rained buckets the day before I arrived, so there was quite a bit of standing water. I had no trouble finding a dry area to pitch my tent, though, and I didn't see a single mosquito the whole time I was there.

On the less fun side, there were lots of biting red ants here. I kept stepping on their highway and regretting it. Some other things that could have been better: there was a sodium light close to my campsite that stayed on all night. Not too bright but I would have preferred it to not be there. The drinking water situation was also a little janky. There are a couple of shared spigots, but one was busted and they were both about six inches off the ground. I kept having to pirate the water hookups in empty RV sites.

Notes on the amenities: I used the laundry room and it worked fine. The dryers are the industrial type and took three cycles to dry my clothes, but otherwise, no issues. The pool is small and often full of children, but I enjoyed it regardless. They keep it clean and there's a good community spirit to it.

Beautiful Campground

This is a beautiful campground! I'm traveling with my 5 year old son with just a tent. The tent sites here are very nice. They offer them with or without electric. The cell service is a little spotty but I have Xfinity Mobile and I was never completely without service. They do have good Wi-Fi here but there's not a strong enough signal to connect to it in the tent area. The bathrooms and showers are clean. They have two really nice playgrounds for the kids, a nice little swimming pool and a really great pavilion entertainment area with horseshoe pits and cornhole. Everybody here is very kind and friendly and it's very peaceful and quiet here. I would absolutely stay here again if I was in the area.

Nice Area Close to Charleston

Off the Highway. We had a great end of row site that was spacious! It was quiet and clean here. The hosts were excellent as well with an easy check-in. Nice place to walk around. The bathrooms needed some attention —very unpleasant. That’s why four stars. There was lots of SOOT everywhere from burning on the site.

Nice place

Nice campground. Verizon worked well, good OTA TV, from our spot I-1 we couldn't get satellite, but others would have been just fine. Nice place to walk the dogs. Nice pond for fishing. About a 50-50 mix of long term campers and short term but no issues at all. Works stay here again.

Close To Everything

We stayed two nights. The shower house & bathrooms were clean. The people were friendly. The location was close to John’s Island and 25 minutes from downtown Charleston. Hassle free camping at its best.

Better than the pictures

We had low expectations, but were extremely happy with this place. The pictures online do not do it justice. Lots of water around and some trees.

It was a little bit of a drive into Charleston, but we don’t like to camp in the hustle and bustle of a city about 20 minutes to downtown.

Operators were very nice. Back-in spot was a little tight, but fairly level. We were very close to bathrooms that could have been cleaner but were handy.

Shower facilities were clean and the laundry room was big. We didn’t get a chance to use the pool, it was cute.

Good Location to Charleston

Good location for those wanting to visit the Charleston area without the hustle and bustle of the traffic. Close to Edisto beaches as well which is a good spot for the beaches. The campground has a great laundry facility, bathhouses were a bit muddy though from the rain we had. The pool was lively with guests having good fun and conversation. There is a mix of full-timers, those staying for long durations and folks like us passing through.

Quiet and convenient

Nice, quiet campground with plenty of tall trees surrounding, we didn’t have any trees in our site, but it was pretty wooded, so full sun was long. The grounds were clean and well maintained.

Lots of people and lots of mud

Very, very overcrowded. The tent sites were unlevel and muddy ( since it rained before we arrived and all the water ran down hill to the tent sites). Pretty decent bathroom but too cramped for me. Won't be back to visit.

Excellent Campground

My wife and I were visiting our son at Charleston AFB, and we spent a week and a half at Lake Aire. We couldn't have been happier with the campground. K1 is an outstanding, secluded site with plenty of room for the dogs to roam, and there was plenty of shade during the day.

The campground is conveniently located near Charleston, so we were able to take advantage of all there is to see and do in the area.

Wifi was ok, and Verizon cell coverage was good.

Stayed just before hurricane

We stayed at Lake Aire the week before labor day.  Staff was great and so was the park.   Had a great time while visiting Charleston area.     We had. 50 amp site for our coach and it was clean.  Bathroom nearby was very clean.   Playgrounds which we did not use look nice and safe

We will return when we are in the area again

Ranger Review: Lake Aire RV Park & Campground

We enjoyed our stay here. The site was great, we enjoyed being right next to the pond. The resident ducks entertained us everyday and would follow us around. We were right next to the playground, but there weren’t a lot of kids there, so didn’t have any issues in that regard. WiFi worked well and cell coverage was good (att & Verizon). Easy to get to downtown Charleston. We would definitely stay again.
