Best RV Parks & Resorts near Gettysburg, PA

Several established RV parks surround Gettysburg with varying amenities and accessibility. Drummer Boy Camping Resort offers full hookup sites with 50-amp electric service on its 95-acre property, open April through October. "The site was pretty level and an okay side. Our site was separated from our neighbors site with nice foliage," noted one camper about their stay. Gettysburg Campground provides water, sewer and electric hookups with big-rig friendly pull-through sites approximately one mile from downtown Gettysburg. Round Top Campground features gravel pads with reasonable spacing between sites, though some visitors report unlevel conditions requiring blocks for stabilization.

During peak tourist seasons, especially summer and fall foliage periods, reservations are strongly recommended as Gettysburg's historic significance draws significant RV traffic. Most campgrounds in the region maintain sanitary dump stations, with full-service parks offering sewer hookups at individual sites. Cell service remains generally reliable throughout the area's campgrounds with Verizon providing consistent coverage. Pet policies vary by location, with Drummer Boy prohibiting pets while Round Top and Gettysburg Campground welcome them with standard restrictions. Winter camping options are limited, as many facilities close between November and March, though Ben Franklin RV Park in nearby York remains open year-round with full hookups and accommodates larger rigs.

    Ramblin' Pines

    Good location to Baltimore/Frederick Attractions

We stay at Ramblin Pines because it is close to family and a good proximity to visiting Baltimore and Frederick. The campground is quite large with lots of seasonal sites but there are some transient spaces that can accommodate big-rigs. In addition to RV sites, there are tent sites and cabins.

We stayed in one of the transient sites (#FR14) across from the RV storage lot. It was a long gravel back-in with 50-amp FHU. The water hook-up is in a pit so it doesn’t freeze so look under the cover. It can be a bit difficult to reach and you have to get on the ground to hook-up. Based on the location of the spigot, we were not able to attach our water filter (we drank the tap water anyway and it was good). The electric worked fine and were able to reach the sewer with our 20’ hose. The view out of our front window was of the storage lot which was not the most scenic. However, parking in the FR row is the easiest place for big-rigs to park since some roads in the park are tight and hard to navigate with the trees and with the two-way traffic.

There are lots of amenities and it seems some people come here for the activities and things to do. It is a destination for many campers. They have lots of themed events, the most popular being the entire month of October celebrating like Halloween. They set up a haunted walk through the woods, have pumpkin carving, trick or treating, a costume contest, haunted hayride, and site decoration contest every weekend. If you want to camp on the weekends– book early because we found it very difficult to get a reservation during October and you have to pay in full and there are no refunds for cancellations. Other weekends have live music, bingo, hayrides, cornhole tournaments, crafts, and more. Basically, there is something every weekend.

Huge fishing pond, shuffleboard, horseshoes, large dog park with agility, game room, playgrounds, jump pillow, heated swimming pool, and exercise room (which was decent but didn’t have a television to occupy your time), 18-hole mini golf. A short but nice hiking trail winds through the woods and is nice for walking dogs. There is a large covered pavilion with picnic tables for big gatherings. There is free Wi-Fi but it doesn’t reach sites in the back of the campground. Wi-Fi is great if you are near the office/store. The camp store is fairly large with some food/beverage items, t-shirts, large amount of RV supplies, and misc. other items. There is a coffee maker with free coffee.

Harpers Ferry / Civil War Battlefields KOA

More "glamping" than camping, but great for families!

This campground is huge, and very crowded. We were there in the days leading up to 4th of July, and there was not a single empty site. Our section had mostly pop-ups and mid-size travel trailers, so the sites were all grass and gravel. However, the area with pull-through sites for big rigs was just a huge RV parking lot. All roads were very narrow and winding. We did fine with the pup, but can’t imagine trying to navigate a large motorhome through there. Crowding/space issues aside, this is a really nice (albeit expensive) campground. Almost everything, from the grounds, to rec halls, to pool and laundry, was sparkling clean and beautifully maintained. Bathrooms were reasonably clean as well, although they could certainly use some TLC and updating (most MD state park bathhouses are nicer).Staff was very friendly, as well. Tons of stuff to do here, especially for families: arts & crafts, indoor movie theatre, games, civil war reenactments, wine tastings, etc. We were certainly never bored, and the kids thought they had died and gone to heaven. Our site was extremely close to our neighbor's site, but still surprisingly roomy and decently shaded. We were right next to the pancake hut (free daily pancake breakfast included during the on-season) and playground, and very close to other activities. Harpers Ferry National Historical Park is just a stone's throw away, with great hiking, sight-seeing, and cute little shops.

Overall, this is a really nice place, but much more of a resort than a campground in my opinion. The kids loved it, but I’ll always prefer the wooded seclusion of a state or national park. However, if I was looking for a more action-packed, activities-filled “glamping” experience, I wouldn’t hesitate to return.

Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park in Williamsport MD

    KID FRIENDLY

This is a huge campground geared around kids. We didn't bring any with us this time and were just staying here overnight. We are in pull through site 753, pretty level gravel site, full hookups, picnic table and fire ring. The site wasn't well cleaned, grease dumped in the gravel, dead grass, lots of stink bugs! Also had to finagle the cable line to get it to work. There are very clean showers and restrooms, large camp store, restaurant, mining for kids, Waterpark, and pool. Many cabins, pull through, back in, and tent sites.

    Thousand Trails Hershey

    Convenient to Hersheypark

The campground is part of Hershey and as such offers good discounts to Hersheypark. While it offers nice amenities and a shuttle to Hersheypark, the campground itself is very tight, cramped, and hard to navigate. The sites are so small that many tow vehicles have to park partially on the narrow access roads making it difficult to get in and out of with a big rig.

We stayed here in a Class A motor home.

    Gettysburg / Battlefield KOA

    Camping Gem Near the Battlefields

We had a great stay at Gettysburg/ Battlefield KOA Holiday in Gettysburg, PA.

We stayed in a level pull-thru site(#14) with deluxe picnic table, swinging Adirondack glider, and fire pit. The site was big enough for our motor home and Jeep. Full hook-ups with 50-amp service.

Lots of mature shade trees made the site more comfortable given the July heat. The paver patio with seating and natural landscaping with well-placed boulders made it quite comfortable.

Wow, what a great place to stay when visiting the town of Gettysburg and nearby battlefields.

From the escort to our site and friendly interactions with the staff, we immediately felt at home. The site was covered with clean gravel(which I like to keep sand and dirt outside), the camp store was well-stocked, the pool was inviting, the utilities all worked great, daily trash collection was convenient, immaculate landscaping, and a 2:00 PM check-out make this place a gem when visiting the Gettysburg area.

Just 15-minutes to historic sites, restaurants, and breweries.

    Everything seemed clean and well-maintained.

Bottom Line: This is a great campground in a great location and we can’t wait to go back!

    THINGS I ESPECIALLY LIKED:

    1. Beautifully landscaped site

    2. Well maintained and clean campground

    3. Close to town of Gettysburg and battlefields

    Gettysburg / Battlefield KOA

Awesome campground while exploring Gettysburg Battlefield!

We couldn't have been more pleased with this campground! The usual variety of sites, back-in and pull through, 50/30/20 amp service with full hookups.  Cable has the usual channels, about 20, available for $2.00 per night.  WIFI is free and we had good service, even though we were quite far from the office.  The site was level and needed no additional blocking, a fire pit and picnic table with ample outdoor sitting room.  A wooded setting gave plenty of shade and lent to the atmosphere of having more room than we actually did.  Located about 4 miles from town it is far enough for that country feel but close enough to be convenient.  The camp store was well stocked with basic needs as was the gift shop.  Trash is picked up daily, just leave it at the entrance to your site when you leave in the morning.  Cell service wasn't the best, Verizon had about 2 bars.  I can't say enough good things about the staff, from check-in and being escorted to our site with help backing in to filling up the propane on the way out everyone was courteous and helpful.  We felt secure at all times, and noticed a staff member frequently driving through on a golf cart.  A dog playground, kiddie playground, pool, putt putt, and other activities for the family.  All in all a very positive experience and a definite thumbs up for this campground!!

    Twin Bridge Campground

    Great Site, Great Staff

Took our new Fifth Wheel for a shakedown trip and decided to try Twin Bridges Campground. Staff was polite, amenities are great and clean, and everyone was friendly and polite. Big spacious sites, and a honeywagon to make things easier (there weren't any full hookup sites the I saw besides the long term spaces). Would definatley stay here again.

    Little Buffalo State Park Campground

A Hidden Gem In Central PA

The campground has approximately 35 sites, most with water and electric, which is rare for many PA state parks. The sites are mostly level, gravel, and good sized for averaged sized RV’s. Larger rigs may have some issues with site length on a few sites, so check ahead of time, but there are a couple pull through sites. Fire rings and picnic tables are at each site, but no wifi in the campground area. We did have cell phone service at our campsite.

The sites along the outer side of the look are more wooded than the inner sites.  The bathhouse is modern, very clean and well maintained. A playground is near bathhouse in the campground, along with several hiking trails. The dump station is easily accessible. Firewood is also available for purchase at the campground.

The campground is located across the road from the actual state park, which is beautiful and well maintained. A large lake is the centerpiece surrounded by multiple hiking trails, picnic areas, and a large swimming pool/aquatics area (in season). The road going to the park and campground is well maintained, with very wide shoulders for easy access, biking, and running. Fishing and boat rental are available on the lake.

We had a wonderful weekend at LBSP and plan to include it on our “Go-To” places to visit and camp.

    Gifford Pinchot State Park Campground

Basic amenities and activities for the average camper

Large campground with electric RV/camper sites as well as non-electric tent sites. Several bathroom and shower facilities. Lake-side sites are available and each site comes equipped with a picnic table, fire ring, and parking spot. Friendly staff, decently maintained. There were several planks missing from our picnic table and the parking spot was a mud hole. Some pet friendly sites are available as well. A snapping turtle stopped by for a visit at our campsite and ended up laying eggs! Quite a sight to see, there is plenty of wildlife around to enjoy during your stay.

Guide to Gettysburg

Gettysburg offers convenient RV camping options within a 25-mile radius of the historic battlefield. The region's rolling countryside sits at approximately 520 feet above sea level, with the surrounding Adams County characterized by gentle hills and farmland. Summer temperatures typically range from 75-90°F while fall camping season brings cooler 45-65°F temperatures with colorful foliage.

What to do

Historic exploration: 1.5 miles from town. The Harpers Ferry Campground provides direct access to history beyond Gettysburg. "If you would like to do some exploring, then you can walk the trail right next to the campground into the historical town of Harper's Ferry. The trail is about 1.5 miles one way," notes camper Maggie A.

Farm animal interaction: daily feeding times. At Thousand Trails Gettysburg Farm, families can participate in scheduled animal feeding. "We enjoyed everything and the people were friendly. Worth the trip!" shares Nathan S., while another camper adds, "We fed the animals at the allotted time every morning and went to visit at other times."

Seasonal events: weekends through October. Many rv parks near Gettysburg celebrate fall with themed activities. "We were there around Halloween and they had decorated the park so nicely. The sounds of the farm animals all around was fun and amusing for us," reports Mary H., describing the festive atmosphere at Gettysburg Farm.

What campers like

Waterfront access: fishing and swimming. Several Gettysburg area campgrounds offer water activities. "Gorgeous spot on the river. Small campground with not a lot of amenities BUT THAT RIVER IS GORGEOUS. Lots of activities - tubing, zip lining, fishing," explains Darcy S. about Harpers Ferry Campground.

Spacious wooded sites: natural separation. Pinch Pond Family Campground offers tree-lined camping spaces. "Easy to get to and beautiful setting, gorgeous trees and feels very woodsy. Pond is okay, could be nicer," notes Michelle D., who appreciated the natural environment.

Clean facilities: regularly maintained. Campers consistently mention well-kept amenities. "My family recently spent a long weekend at Pinch Pond. Our campsite was very spacious and the ENTIRE campground was extremely clean and tidy," shares Melissa Y., highlighting the maintenance standards important to RV campers near Gettysburg.

What you should know

Road noise levels: highway proximity. Some rv campgrounds around Gettysburg have noise considerations. At Pinch Pond, Stuart K. notes: "You're not going to get away from all of that highway traffic noise," while recommending sites #102–120 for being "in the far rear" and quieter.

Terrain challenges: leveling requirements. Gettysburg Campground offers mixed terrain. "Sites are well maintained, clean, wooded, and in the area we are in are spaced nicely," explains one camper, though others mention some unlevel sites requiring blocks for stabilization.

Seasonal activity limitations: check opening dates. Many facilities reduce operations from November to March. "We tent camp here on weekends. Usually check to see what bands are playing or fun activity going on," advises Emily about seasonal scheduling at Western Village RV Park.

Tips for camping with families

Playground access: varied equipment. Round Top Campground provides recreational facilities for children. "Basketball court recently updated. Spots are tight, Water pressure is low, road traffic noise," notes Alice G., giving parents realistic expectations about amenities.

Pool facilities: seasonal availability. Swimming options differ between campgrounds. "Clean pool and playground available. Close to battlefields," shares Benjamin A. about Gettysburg Campground, while another Round Top visitor mentioned "The pool was shut down due to the pump breaking."

Site selection for quiet: back section placement. Request sites away from main roads when traveling with children. "It can be noisy near the highway so we always try to get furthest campsite away," advises Michelle D., sharing a practical tip for families seeking better sleep while RV camping near Gettysburg, Pennsylvania.

Tips from RVers

Hookup placement: site-specific locations. Thousand Trails Hershey, located within day-trip distance of Gettysburg, has various site configurations. "The sites are gravel and most are not level. They are not well maintained as the site next to us has weeds a foot high," warns James G., highlighting the importance of checking specific site conditions.

Size accommodations: pull-through availability. Several RV parks around Gettysburg accommodate larger vehicles. "We were in a transient section in the back of the park with long pull-thrus (about 100-feet long) that comfortably fit our RV and car," reports Nancy W. about one resort, though noting tight spaces between sites.

Winter options: year-round facilities. Ben Franklin RV Park offers full-service camping during off-season months when many Gettysburg campgrounds close. "Good location to head into the Amish country, Harrisburg, Hershey and/or Gettysburg. We also drove out to Baltimore one day during our stay," explains C.O., describing its convenience as a basecamp for regional exploration.
