      Quiet, Friendly Campground

We really enjoyed our stay. The hosts were very welcoming and helpful. Delivered our firewood right to our site. Lots of shade trees, beautiful well groomed trails for walking. Even a dog park, which our Golden Retriever really enjoyed.

      Holiday RV Campground

      Large RV Park

Nice Park Nice park for full timers. Large spots to accommodate big rigs and kids. Full hook ups. Cell service great with Verizon hotspot(22u, 20d, 38ms and AT&T cell(27d, 20u, 27ms). Playgrounds everywhere for the kids. Giant dog park and ponds. Pool was closed. Just needs more grass. Our spot was really patchy and resulted in a lot of mud. Great campground with polite and helpful staff. Don’t pass this one up.

We stayed at this campground in the group camp area. The sites are tight but do provide water and 30 amp electric.

The campground offers a pond for fishing , swimming pool , bounce pad , inflatable lake fun, dog park and mini golf.

Since we were there as a group event we didn’t use any of the extras but it all looked nice and clean plus lots of fun.

Cell coverage was spotty but you could usually get some kind of signal.

The campground has a lot of seasonal sites as well as primitive tent camping and standard rv sites.

Nice Campground for a Group Event

This is our second time camping here and both times were for a group camping event. For this type of event it’s a great park. We had a whole sector the event with water and electric sites.

If we were going to camp here on our own I am not sure I would like it since it’s mostly set up for seasonal campers. So there are no hiking trail and there is also a lot of golf cart traffic.

They do offer a swimming pool , pond with inflatable slides , dog park , bound pad and miniature golf.

      Harrison Lake State Park Campground

      Quiet place to get away

We have been here a few times. Really enjoy the secluded sites and the lake. It’s a small campground but it’s clean and quiet. Most sites don’t have water hookups but they do have electric. There isn’t much to do outside of the campground but there is a nice lake with canoe and kayak rentals. Very pet friendly and even has a dog beach.

      Van Buren State Park Campground

      Small and peaceful

We stayed one night on our way to IN. We’ve never been here before and wanted to check it off our list. It’s a small campground with one side as equestrian and the other side not. All sites had electric and water, no full hookup. There were only drop toilets and no showers. They were clean but I don’t think I’d want to do more than a weekend there. It had a nice playground for kids and plenty of trails to hike or go horseback riding. They also had a dog park and small wildflower garden. The check in cabin had ice and wood for sale but no store. Our site was really nice. The pads were recently paved and had a huge bumper at the end. The fire ring was nice and the site had plenty of space for tents.

The lake offers great fishing opportunities and doubles as a nice spot to sit by the water, enjoy the local wildlife and relax."

Free amenities: White Oak Campground provides several free services that campers appreciate. One review highlights: "The firewood is free, which is amazing. There is also a dish washing station near the restrooms, with a huge sink and hot water. I absolutely loved my night here, as well as the hike."

Kid-friendly activities: Monroe-Toledo North KOA offers structured programs for families with pets. A camper reports: "Friends and family for a Halloween themed event weekend resulted in lots of fun and good times. The kids stayed busy and made new friends while the adults hung out and had a good time! The staff did a good job running events."

    What you should know

Site spacing varies: Several campgrounds pack sites closely together while others offer more room. At Twin Acres Campground, "All sites are right next to each other, but it is a pretty quiet place after 9 PM. I did not hear any road noise, which was nice."

Weather considerations: May flies emerge seasonally at lakefront locations. One reviewer of Sterling State Park Campground noted: "First two nights were perfect but then the may flies hatched (in mid june) and covered everything. Good size sites, friendly staff, great beach and boat launch."

Security concerns: Some campgrounds experience occasional crime issues. Tips from RVers

Site dimensions: Many campgrounds have limited space between sites. At Monroe-Toledo North KOA, one RVer noted: "Campsites were pretty clean. Kids loved the pond beach and the water slide. The only down side was they pack in the campers super tight. I would guess 22 feet wide and I only had 5 feet behind my 30 foot camper until you reach the next camper."

Hookup placement: Some sites have unusual utility layouts. At Toledo East-Stony Ridge KOA, an RVer mentioned: "Nice campground, gravel semi level spot. Full hookup but sewer connection was at very back of spot. We used dump station."

Advance notification: Many campgrounds require pre-registration for pets in RVs. Some charge additional fees ranging from $3-10 per night per pet, with one camper noting: "Sites and restrooms were alright, think it is ridiculous to pay extra each night for each pet and children, too many other campgrounds in our area that are more updated and reasonably priced."
