Best Campgrounds near Lake Milton, OH

Lake Milton in northeastern Ohio features several mixed-use campgrounds with varied accommodation options. The KOA Lake Milton Berlin Lake campground provides tent and RV sites, cabins, and access to water recreation on their small lake with inflatable water features. Mill Creek Camping at Berlin Lake Wildlife Area offers more rustic camping with lakefront sites popular for fishing and boating. Both locations are within a short drive of each other, creating a cluster of camping opportunities in the Mahoning County region approximately 15 miles west of Youngstown.

Most campgrounds in the area operate seasonally, typically opening in April or May and closing in October. The KOA Lake Milton Berlin Lake is open from May through mid-October, while Mill Creek Camping follows a similar schedule. Travelers should check for availability in advance as waterfront and electric sites fill quickly, especially on holiday weekends. Weather can vary significantly throughout the camping season, with summer temperatures generally comfortable but occasional thunderstorms. As one camper noted, "Our site in Aspen was a beautiful private spot in the woods with access to the lake! We were able to dock our boat on shore and nobody bothered it."

Lakefront access represents a significant draw for campers visiting the area. Both Berlin Lake and Lake Milton provide opportunities for swimming, fishing, and boating. Mill Creek Camping receives consistently positive reviews for its spacious sites and affordable pricing. A visitor commented, "Low cost for staying - $18 for a waterside, spacious site for up to 8 people, 2 tents at no additional costs." The KOA offers more amenities including a swimming lake with inflatables, playground equipment, and organized activities, making it popular for families despite slightly higher prices. Campers frequently mention the clean facilities at both locations, though weekend noise levels can increase, particularly at Mill Creek, where some visitors note loud music and activity past quiet hours during peak summer weekends.

Jamestown Campground — Pymatuning State Park

    Awesome place to camp

Pymatuning Lake Campground is a huge 700 site family oriented campground. Sites are large and clean and your not packed in. Bathrooms and showers are OK but they are clean. Best part of being here is the awesome fishing. Know for huge black crappie, walleye, and small and big mouth bass. This is the place to go fishing.

    Mosquito Lake State Park Campground

What a great place to camp!

First time here. They told me Ohio State Parks were voted #1 in the US. Well there is a reason for that. Beautiful, clean, great spots, not a bad site in the entire park. Wood is dry and cheap right outside the park entrance. Bass fishing is top notch on the lake. I would definitely come back here again and again.

    Streetsboro-Cleveland SE KOA

No EV Charging Allowed! Wet Sites

Site was pre-season opening (although no discount - almost $80/night), so there was construction during our stay.  Rains resulting in site flooding - the gravel pad was fine, but had to wade into the mud & water to get to utilities for the trailer.

Dumpsters were overflowing and campground sent email to inform campers they would have to haul out their own trash.

Biggest disappointment was lack of EV charging options at this site.  Didn't see the "No Charging" rule on their website when signing up, or we would have gone elsewhere.

    Won't return.

Nice Private Campground - EV Friendly

Spend one night here on our way to Ohio.  Owner was very friendly and allowed me to charge my Rivian onsite (I offered to pay for the extra power).

Pad was level and utilities were well located.

    Check-in & check-out were seamless.

The site amenities are dated, but it is a pretty cool campground!

We would definitely return for longer!

    Our "trial run" place

We live really close so we stay at mosquito for our first stay every year. This year we were disappointed. They had no staff there to check us in, the signs says closed Monday through Wednesday. Bathrooms were supposed to be open because we stayed April 16th, but only some of them were. (Even though online states April 1st they reopen). Some sites are more wet than others. We stayed at site 54 this time. The pad was very narrow and it was wet around it (it has been raining a lot). The person before us must have purchased a $12 bale of hay that they were selling up front because there was hay everywhere. Wish they would just put gravel down.

Otherwise, it's quiet. We love the nature play area for the kids. We love the playgrounds.

When they are open, the bathrooms are very clean. The shower house is dated but clean. Far walk from every site basically as they put it on the main road between both loops.

Camping sites surrounding Lake Milton include traditional campgrounds with electric hookups, basic toilets, and shower facilities. Most operate seasonally from April or May through October. Berlin Lake and Lake Milton combine to create a water recreation hub approximately 15 miles west of Youngstown with numerous fishing spots, swimming areas, and boat launches. The terrain is primarily flat with wooded sections offering some shade in summer months when temperatures typically range from 70-85°F. Rainfall averages 3-4 inches per month during camping season, with occasional severe thunderstorms possible.

What to do

Hiking trails: West Branch State Park Campground offers diverse hiking options with varying difficulty levels. One camper noted, "There are many scenic hiking trails at West Branch. Bridal trails are located on Esworthy Rd."

Fishing opportunities: Lake anglers can fish multiple locations, though seasonal conditions vary. At Mosquito Lake State Park Campground, algae can be problematic: "The algae was kind of thick, which made fishing impossible, so we stopped bringing the kayak." However, many campsites provide direct water access.

What you should know

Tips from RVers

Leveling requirements: Many sites require adjustment for comfortable setup. At West Branch State Park, an RVer reported, "We were only off 2 inches side to side but front to back we had to lower the front 15 inches. The jack was down as low as it would go and we were still off by 1.5 inches."

Access challenges: Some campgrounds have difficult navigation for larger rigs. At Nelson-Kennedy Ledges Quarry Park, maneuverability can be limited, especially during busy weekends.

Hookup reliability: Electrical service varies by site and campground. At Lake Milton Berlin Lake KOA, certain sites may have limited amperage options, requiring adaptors for some RV configurations.
