Best Campgrounds near Parkman, OH

Campgrounds near Parkman, Ohio include a mix of privately operated facilities and state parks offering diverse accommodations. The area contains several family-oriented campgrounds such as Kool Lakes Family RV Park, which features both tent and RV camping alongside cabin options. Within a 20-mile radius, campers can access Nelson-Kennedy Ledges State Park, Punderson State Park, and West Branch State Park, each providing developed campgrounds with varying amenities. These established campgrounds typically include designated sites with fire rings, picnic tables, and access to restroom facilities, creating a structured camping environment suitable for families and those seeking convenient outdoor recreation.

Seasonal operation impacts availability throughout the region, with most campgrounds open from May through mid-October. Winter camping options are limited primarily to Punderson State Park and West Branch State Park, which maintain year-round operations. As one visitor to Punderson noted, "We stayed at one of the primitive sites up the hill, which was perfect for tenting and had excellent drainage (even after getting poured on all night)." Road access to most developed campgrounds accommodates standard vehicles, though site terrain varies considerably. Many campgrounds offer electric hookups and water access, while some primitive sites may require carrying supplies from parking areas. Reservation systems are common for these established facilities, with weekends and holidays often booking months in advance, particularly for waterfront locations.

Several mixed-use campgrounds in the area cater to both tent and RV camping while offering cabin rentals for those seeking more comfort. The Kool Lakes Family RV Park receives positive feedback for its fishing opportunities, with one camper sharing that "it's been my kids' favorite so far this year, probably mine as well. Main reason we had a vacant lot on either side of us and our lot was right on water." The Nelson-Kennedy Ledges Quarry Park, distinct from the state park of a similar name, offers a more festival-oriented experience with swimming in the quarry as a major attraction. Campground amenities vary significantly throughout the region, with some facilities offering full shower houses, playgrounds, and organized activities, while others maintain a more rustic approach with basic services. Cell service can be inconsistent throughout the area, with coverage generally better at larger, more developed campgrounds.

    Punderson State Park Campground

    Solo tent camping went well

I had originally gotten lot #81 but quickly got it switched to #83 because it was just waaaay better. Flatter ground and I was able to go deeper into the woods.

I went the first week of October, and on weekdays, which was great because I had no neighbors.

Staff was great, check in area also has a little store with all the essentials stocked up, lots of trails, great for biking and hiking, a park for the kids, fishing, canoeing, showers, flush toilets, all that fancy stuff was there.

Only down side was occasional road noise which I just can't seem to escape in my area of Ohio. And I personally wouldn't go here on weekends or over the summer because there are RV sites everywhere, which is another thing that dominates my area of Ohio.

Going again, as long as I don't have the kids, I would try for a test space as far from the road and is deep in the forest as possible. Do that at tge right time of year and I think this will be a great spot for me in the future

    Woodside Lake Park

    Nice quiet camping

Quiet tent campsite parked in this area. There are quite a few RVs parked here and it appears lively, but the tent area in hilltop was quiet and secluded. Very kid friendly. At night, there was highway noise in the background. A lot to do here but also very close to Cuyahoago Valley National Park.

Beautiful and close to a beach

You can camp right on the lake in some spots. Tons of trails to hike and a beautiful beach.

Canal Fulton Canoe Livery & Campground

    Great location, laking facilities

The campground runs along 100 yards or so of the tuscarawas River. Sandwiches by a railroad, and walking path. They allow you to drive to your spot to pack/unpack, but have to park in the lot. While the campsites are scenic and what you expect... the washroom, especially the shower are pretty lacking. There's a nice covered picnic area with grills available with your own gas. And a small (toddler) kids area. All in all, a great cheap spot for a quick stay.

We stayed mid September and there was live music walking distance every night, a cute ice cream shop a short walk over the bridge, and a nice playground on the other side of the river that was also an easy walk.

I didnt partake in the canoes... but they do a river clean up monthly and really seem to enjoy what they do.

All in all a great cheap spot for a quick stay.

    Perry Township Park

    Beautiful

There are many sites taken by permanent campers for the summer. There are pickleball courts in park. Right on Lake Erie, nice hot showers.

    Village Green Campground

    Long-term RV

This site is great if you’re moving in with your RV. I’m tent camping, and while there were tent sites (about 5), it wasn’t the atmosphere I generally go for.

Positives- there are bathrooms, showers, and laundry. Right on Lake Erie. Fine for overnight.

Cons- this is a live-in RV site in the outskirts of Ohio.

    Streetsboro-Cleveland SE KOA

Quiet, peaceful, close to all the things

We stopped here for a couple nights to go to a Cleveland Guardians game and go to Cuyahoga National Park. It was within great proximity to both and had all the amenities the kids and I love. Swimming (wish it were open a little later…) laundry 24/7, a game room, store with just what we needed to pick up a few things, a pond that seemed to always have someone fishing at it (that’s a good thing) and a big wide sites to spread out and have a nice campfire in. (Wood available 24/7 and trash pick up at the site in the AM). It’s always nerve wracking when the fire pits are close to the rigs - loved that these sits were wide. And while there are likely people here it feels nice and spread out.

Guide to Parkman

Camping near Parkman, Ohio occurs primarily from May through October, with limited winter options at select state parks. The area sits at an elevation of approximately 1,200 feet and experiences distinct seasonal changes that affect camping access and amenities. Ground conditions can range from hard-packed in summer to soggy in spring, particularly at sites near water features.

What to do

Disc golf access: West Branch State Park features multiple courses with varying difficulty levels. "There are many scenic hiking trails at West Branch. Bridal trails are located on Esworthy Rd," notes Alisa G., highlighting additional recreational options.

Boat rentals: Punderson State Park Campground offers kayak and canoe rentals during peak season. "Kayaks for rent, firewood available to buy," shares Joe I., making water activities accessible without bringing your own equipment.

Archery practice: Dedicated ranges exist at multiple parks. "Opportunities for disc golf, archery range, canoeing/kayaking/row boats, swimming (no lifeguard) and golf," explains Rebecca G. about available activities.

Dog swimming areas: Several parks provide designated pet water access. "There is a dog park nearby. We can launch our kayaks right from our campsite," describes Alisa G. about West Branch, showcasing water-based recreation options.

Night sky viewing: Clear nights offer decent stargazing despite proximity to urban areas. "It was dark enough to see a space station cross the sky at night," reports Kate W., pointing out unexpected viewing opportunities.

What campers like

Lakefront camping: West Branch State Park Campground offers direct water access from select sites. "We're at site 160. No electricity, no hook ups, but a HUGE lakefront site. We're in a self contained RV so it's not a problem for us. Beach is right next door too!" shares Rino S.

Fishing opportunities: Multiple ponds provide varied fishing experiences. "Our kids age 4 and 8 fished from sun up Saturday to about noon and then sporadically after that throughout the day. That night we hunted large bull frogs. All catch and release," describes Joe F. about their stay at Kool Lakes Family RV Park.

Swimming facilities: Natural and developed swimming areas exist throughout the region. "The swimming pond has inflatables and boat rentals. There's good fishing, and typically lots of activities," notes James S. about Woodside Lake Park's amenities.

Festival atmosphere: Some campgrounds offer organized events and activities. "Beautiful water, amazing folks, great food vendors, wonderful concerts, Swimming, Cliff Diving, very free and fun!" explains R E. about the experience at Nelson-Kennedy Ledges Quarry Park.

What you should know

Uneven terrain: Many campsites require significant leveling equipment. "We were only off 2 inches side to side but front to back we had to lower the front 15 inches. The jack was down as low as it would go and we were still off by 1.5 inches," shares Andrea F. about West Branch State Park.

Water quality varies: Well water at some campgrounds contains minerals. "I spent hundreds of dollars trying to filter and clean up the water to no avail. It damages everything," reports Jerry L. about water issues at Woodside Lake Park.

Bathroom facilities: Quality and availability differ significantly between parks. "The bathrooms are portojons and there are no showers, however there is THE best dog park I have ever seen in this area," Kate W. explains about Silver Springs Campground.

Weather impacts: Spring rain can affect site conditions substantially. "Our site had some muddy spots, but the site was big enough that we were able to avoid the mud," explains Karla J. B. about camping after storms at Silver Springs Campground.

Tips for camping with families

Choose sites with playground access: Multiple campgrounds feature play areas for children. "The park is very well maintained, has a nice playground and cute camp store," notes Daniel U. about Punderson State Park Campground.

Book early for summer weekends: Popular sites fill months in advance. "Make reservations! (6 months in advance). Waterside sites fill up quickly!" advises Alisa G. about securing prime locations.

Consider cabin options: Alternative accommodations exist for families new to camping. "The lodge/hotel is beautiful and very old. Very nice looking cabins arranged in a little community," observes Daniel U. about Punderson's various lodging options.

Plan for seasonal crowds: Weekdays offer quieter experiences than weekends. "I went the first week of October, and on weekdays, which was great because I had no neighbors," shares Zachary A., describing the advantage of off-peak camping.

Tips from RVers

Prepare for challenging hookups: Electric service varies between campgrounds. "Very few full hookups. Rest of the sites only have 15-20 amp service. The lots are not even close to level," warns Coy about Punderson State Park limitations.

Verify water source quality: Some areas have mineral-heavy well water. "I was in a different section and by the second day it was unacceptable disgusting turbid rusty water with sulfur odor," Jerry L. cautions about Nelson-Kennedy Ledges Quarry Park.

Check site dimensions before booking: Space constraints affect larger rigs. "Needed a place to park for the night driving across country. Please arrive before 7pm (office closes) to get a last minute spot if available always call ahead," advises Brian D. about Ridge Ranch Campground arrival procedures.

Bring additional leveling blocks: Uneven sites are common throughout the area. "You will need a lot of blocks to get close to level. Saw one RV with auto levelers with his tire about foot off the ground," Coy notes about site conditions.
