Best Campgrounds near Canfield, OH

Canfield, Ohio and the surrounding area feature a range of established campgrounds within a short drive of the city. West Branch State Park Campground, located about 10 miles northeast of Canfield, offers diverse camping options including tent sites, RV spaces, and cabins in a wooded setting alongside Kirwan Reservoir. Other developed campgrounds in the region include Mill Creek Camping at Berlin Lake Wildlife Area and the Lake Milton Berlin Lake KOA, both providing various levels of amenities for tent and RV campers. Chestnut Ridge Park and Campground offers 115 established campsites with electric hookups, fire rings, and picnic tables.

Camping facilities throughout the region typically operate from May through October, with limited year-round options. Most campgrounds require reservations, particularly for weekend stays during summer months when waterfront sites fill quickly. One camper noted, "The sites are very affordable if split between little people. This very family orientated campground has a gravel road system connecting a ton of camp spots, RV locations, mobile homes, a playground, a swimming lake, and even a fishing lake." Road access is generally good with paved roads leading to most established campgrounds, though some secondary access roads may be gravel. Cell phone coverage varies by location but is generally reliable near larger campgrounds and state parks. Weather conditions are typical for northeastern Ohio, with humid summers and occasional thunderstorms.

Waterfront camping receives consistently positive reviews, with sites along lakes being especially popular. Many campgrounds in the area feature lake access, fishing opportunities, and boat launches. Mosquito Lake State Park Campground, about 20 miles north of Canfield, offers waterfront sites with electric hookups. As one visitor commented, "We stayed in site 67, which is a waterfront site, with electric. The water is about 25 yards from the pad, but is visible from the entire site. The site was spacious, but not as private as some of the others." Most developed campgrounds in the region provide standard amenities including restrooms, shower facilities, and dump stations for RVs. Several locations also offer playgrounds, swimming areas, and hiking trails. The proximity to multiple lakes and reservoirs makes the Canfield area particularly appealing for camping trips that incorporate water recreation.

    Bear Run Campground

    Options.

This is an amazing campground with reasonable prices, an array of camping options to suit different camping needs as well as budget range. I am unsure if I just happen to have gotten lucky and decided to go camping during a special weekend, but it’s Labor Day weekend and I am loving that there is a calendar of events for campers to participate in if they choose to. Activities include wagon rides to the lake, talent show, karaoke…etc, as well as church! This was an unexpected gem as we are from Florida and were blessed enough to stumble upon the right person in a parking lot when my husband asked if they knew of any places that we could possibly camp at nearby and that gentleman told us about Moraine Park. Upon making our way out to here, we found Bear Run and have loved our experience so far. Love it!

    Streetsboro-Cleveland SE KOA

Quiet, peaceful, close to all the things

We stopped here for a couple nights to go to a Cleveland Guardians game and go to Cuyahoga National Park. It was within great proximity to both and had all the amenities the kids and I love. Swimming (wish it were open a little later…) laundry 24/7, a game room, store with just what we needed to pick up a few things, a pond that seemed to always have someone fishing at it (that’s a good thing) and a big wide sites to spread out and have a nice campfire in. (Wood available 24/7 and trash pick up at the site in the AM). It’s always nerve wracking when the fire pits are close to the rigs - loved that these sits were wide. And while there are likely people here it feels nice and spread out.

    Woodside Lake Park

Old Park With Iron Laden Well Water Beware

I stayed at this park for 2 months in 2023 and was planing on staying for 5 months in 2025. I left after 2 months due to iron& sulfur laden well water that is provided in at least half the park. I spent hundreds of dollars trying to filter and clean up the water to no avail. It damages everything and they won't put a treatment system in at the well pump like the 2nd well has so you can filter it to an acceptable level for drinking, cooking, washing etc.

In 2023 I was in a section that was treated and my filters/softener did a acceptable job to make it work. I Used the laundry facilities also. This trip to see family in 2025 I was in a different section and by the second day it was unacceptable disgusting turbid rusty water with sulfur odor. I bought additional filters for Ferrous Iron Water treatment and remediation along with iron out chemical for cleaning fixtures and plumbing system on the camper. It barely worked well enough for a couple weeks between filter changes and rinsing the system for shower use. I Had to buy drinking water in town every few days for cooking, drinking and brushing teeth etc.

New owners bought the park in 2023 and have increased monthly rent from$750 a month to$950 a month but don't seem to care enough about the health and comfort of their guest to do anything with the well water for a majority of the park. Let alone any of the other infrastructure or"amenities" to be generous in there reference This year even the laundry machines where too disgusting to use that we had to go into town for laundry also.

The park needs major renovations to just bring it up to modern standards. The bath house is in decrepit condition moldy smelly and barely cleaned anytime I was over there. Site pads are rip rap 1" to 4" size rock with no fine rock coverings, or in some areas smoother rock and dirt but nowhere close to flat or level. Water drainage when its raining is deplorable and you very well might be in a mud pit at your doorway.

It's sad there are no decent RV parks in the Cleveland area, just old campgrounds that have added hook-ups and market themselves as RV parks and now charge like they are RV Resorts. Reserve a space at your own risk and definitely verify where and what water source you are on. Bring plenty of filters and plan on sanitizing your system after staying there.

    Silver Springs Campground

    Affordable

The lots are nice and large. The main problem was very hard to level and soft grass they don’t have a well compacted area for your tt/rv. Would be nice to have bathroom built on the campground. Have to walk to the baseball field to use the bathrooms. Overall had a good time with my family.

    Chestnut Ridge Park and Campground

    Great community

When I first got here the 2 owners went above and beyond in so many ways. Unfortunately they didn’t have a 50 amp site available so the owner gave me 30 amp converter at no cost and also helped me hook up my gray water and black water connections. They keep the area pristine and welcome everyone as if they are family.

Great Outdoor Spot in Beaver County

This campground is great for a little getaway. Most sites are spacious! Only downside is you can hear the airport. Not a huge deal though! We loved it

Guide to Canfield

Camping options near Canfield, Ohio include a mix of state parks and private campgrounds situated in the rolling hills of northeastern Ohio. Most campgrounds in this area sit at elevations between 900-1,100 feet above sea level, with the region experiencing typical continental climate patterns including warm, humid summers and cold winters. Winter camping is limited in most locations, with Guilford Lake State Park and Salem-Lisbon KOA being the few options offering year-round access.

What to do

Archery practice: Mosquito Lake State Park features an archery range for visitors to use. "We like to bring our bows and use the archery range," notes Karen D., who travels about two hours to reach the park.

Historic exploration: Beaver Creek State Park offers opportunities to explore local history within its boundaries. "The best part about the area was the history that surrounds it. There is a pioneer village near the park office that offers some picnicking areas around it. It also has original buildings from the pioneer days (church, school, etc)," explains one visitor.

Water recreation: West Branch State Park Campground offers extensive water activities on Kirwan Reservoir. "We can launch our kayaks right from our campsite," explains Alisa G. "There are many inlets to explore or fish. There is a small beach at the campground but a larger one on the other side of the lake."

Lake swimming: Guilford Lake State Park Campground provides convenient water access for campers. According to George, "Right on the lake; super easy lake access. Boat ramp. Swimming beach... Flat and quiet lake for paddlers... Peddle boat and kayak rentals on site."

What campers like

Spacious waterfront sites: West Branch State Park gets high marks for its lakeside camping spots. One camper notes, "We're at site 160. No electricity, no hook ups, but a HUGE lakefront site. We're in a self-contained RV so it's not a problem for us. Beach is right next door too!"

Clean facilities: Chestnut Ridge Park and Campground maintains well-kept amenities. Sarah H. reports, "They keep the area pristine and welcome everyone as if they are family." Another camper adds, "Bathrooms were clean if a bit unique with a rope and pulley system of water delivery to the shower head."

Privacy options: Beaver Creek State Park Campground offers secluded sites for those seeking quiet. "We camped this past weekend in site 50. It is an unbelievably spacious site under towering pine trees. The site sits back off the road and really makes you feel like you have the place to yourself," shares Matt H.

Dog-friendly areas: Mosquito Lake State Park caters to canine companions. "The dog park is amazing," mentions Courtney C., while Jim L. adds, "This park is one of my favorites in Ohio at this time. Most of the sites are some what private. There are many trails and even a fog park next to the lake."

What you should know

Campsite conditions: Sites at West Branch State Park can present challenges. "We were only off 2 inches side to side but front to back we had to lower the front 15 inches. The jack was down as low as it would go and we were still off by 1.5 inches," warns Andrea F.

Reservation requirements: Mill Creek Camping — Berlin Lake Wildlife Area has specific booking policies. Renee G. advises, "All sites are reservation only and they usually fill up fast."

Limited facilities: Some campgrounds offer only basic amenities. At Beaver Creek State Park, visitors should note that "they are on a well so there is limited water and they don't allow you to fill up your on board tank. Make sure you fill up before you go!" according to Bounding Around.

Spacing between sites: Guilford Lake has limited privacy between campsites. As George points out, "It's crowded; this is a tiny campground. Zero privacy (I was awakened by a guy snoring 2 campsites over)."

Tips for camping with families

Playground access: West Branch State Park offers excellent play areas. One visitor shares, "Nice playground with toy stocked sandpit, volleyball net... A very nice addition to our camping tools."

Educational opportunities: Beaver Creek State Park provides learning experiences for children. "Perfect for a toddler. We got a site near the playground, which my 3 year old enjoyed," reports Matt H. Another camper adds, "If your kids are 8 and under they'll love the nature playground and nets provided to catch critters."

Swimming options: Salem-Lisbon Ohio KOA offers family-friendly water activities. "There is so much for families to do. The campground was very clean and well maintained. Has activities for all ages," notes Carrisa P.

Weekend activities: Several campgrounds offer scheduled events. "An ice cream social is held on Saturday evenings that my children always love to attend," mentions Alisa G. about West Branch State Park.

Tips from RVers

Site selection: At Mill Creek Camping, RVers should consider waterfront locations. "We book a lakefront site and it is just gorgeous! We have our own private little beach which our dog loves," advises Sarah K.

Leveling challenges: Many campgrounds in the area require leveling equipment. Andrea F. cautions about West Branch: "We were only off 2 inches side to side but front to back we had to lower the front 15 inches."

Utility access: Chestnut Ridge Park provides good hookup options. "Level gravel sites with really great grassy areas," notes Clean Slate D. The owner "helped me hook up my gray water and black water connections."
