Best Dog-Friendly Camping near Millbury, OH

Toledo East-Stony Ridge KOA features a small fenced dog park alongside full-service pet-friendly campsites across its wooded grounds. The campground accommodates pets in all camping styles including tent sites, RV spots with full hookups, and rental cabins. Dogs must be kept on leashes when not in the designated dog run, and waste bags are provided throughout the property. Guests report the K9 area is well-maintained and typically one of the driest spots in the campground even after heavy rainfall. White Star Park Campground and Maumee Bay State Park also welcome pets with spacious sites that include electric hookups and access to clean shower facilities. Campground staff at these locations are noted for being pet-friendly and accommodating, though site conditions can become muddy after rain, potentially challenging for dog walking.

Hiking trails at nearby Maumee Bay State Park provide excellent dog exercise opportunities with leashed pets welcome throughout the trail system. Service Plaza options along the Ohio Turnpike, including Blue Heron and Wyandot Overnight Parking areas, offer convenient overnight stops for travelers with pets, featuring electric hookups, dump stations, and 24-hour access to facilities. These service plazas are particularly valuable for RV travelers with dogs needing quick overnight accommodations without leaving the highway corridor. Most campgrounds maintain standard quiet hours that apply to barking dogs, and pet owners should be prepared with portable water dishes during summer months when temperatures can reach uncomfortable levels for dogs, especially at sites with limited shade.

    Sandusky-Bayshore KOA

    Nice campground

We have stayed here twice and will definitely be back. Both times at the end of September. Nice campground, friendly staff, store is well stocked for anything you may have forgotten. The playground and jump mat for kids is awesome. They usually have some kind of activity for kids on weekends. We travel with 2 large Labrador retrievers and love being able to let them play off leash in the kamp k9 dog park. The sites are a little close together and the train is loud but other than that, it’s a wonderful place to stay. Very close to Cedar Point.

    Wagner Subscriber Campout

We stayed at this campground in the group camp area. The sites are tight but do provide water and 30 amp electric.

The campground offers a pond for fishing , swimming pool , bounce pad , inflatable lake fun, dog park and mini golf.

Since we were there as a group event we didn’t use any of the extras but it all looked nice and clean plus lots of fun.

Cell coverage was spotty but you could usually get some kind of signal.

The campground has a lot of seasonal sites as well as primitive tent camping and standard rv sites.

Nice Campground for a Group Event

This is our second time camping here and both times were for a group camping event. For this type of event it’s a great park. We had a whole sector the event with water and electric sites.

If we were going to camp here on our own I am not sure I would like it since it’s mostly set up for seasonal campers. So there are no hiking trail and there is also a lot of golf cart traffic.

They do offer a swimming pool , pond with inflatable slides , dog park , bound pad and miniature golf.

    Harrison Lake State Park Campground

    Quiet place to get away

We have been here a few times. Really enjoy the secluded sites and the lake. It’s a small campground but it’s clean and quiet. Most sites don’t have water hookups but they do have electric. There isn’t much to do outside of the campground but there is a nice lake with canoe and kayak rentals. Very pet friendly and even has a dog beach.

Guide to Millbury

Near Millbury, Ohio, campers can find a mix of state parks, privately operated campgrounds, and service plaza sites that accommodate pets. Located in northwest Ohio at approximately 620 feet elevation, this area experiences hot, humid summers and cold winters with Lake Erie's influence creating varied camping conditions throughout the year. Most campgrounds in the area provide level sites suitable for various camping styles with water access points nearby.

What to do

Lake activities: Sterling State Park Campground offers access to both Lake Erie and a smaller inland lake perfect for multiple water activities. "The park also has several public access areas and beaches. Hiking and biking trails are also present and the bathroom facilities are clean and well maintained," notes Edward C., who adds "the smaller lake is good for kayaking and fishing. It has a boat ramp to put into Lake Erie."

Hiking through diverse terrain: White Oak Campground provides access to trails through unique ecosystems. "I camped at this campground after completing the 15.5 mile Scout Trail loop (aka 'Hiking Trail' and Yellow trail) that runs through Oak Openings. I was able to park my car here in the morning, hop on the trail (which runs right through the campground), and return later in the day," shares Cassandra C. Another camper, Kevin K., says, "We loved the hiking, bike trails, playground at Mallard lake area, and the kids liked exploring the sand dune area."

Wildlife viewing: East Harbor State Park Campground offers excellent opportunities for bird and wildlife watching. According to Elijah G., "The wild life in the area was abundant making hikes in the afternoon great especially near sunset when the deer in the area started to come out." The park is known for its diverse ecosystems where visitors can observe native species in their natural habitats.

What campers like

Clean, well-maintained facilities: White Star Park Campground receives consistent praise for its upkeep. "Very clean, spacious, well kept up sites. Highly recommend this place!" says Jill B. Another camper, Carol S., notes, "The bathing facilities were clean," making this location comfortable for longer stays.

Convenience for travelers: Blue Heron Ohio Turnpike RV Lot provides easy overnight accommodations for those passing through. "Simplicity at its finest. Highway stop is open 24 hrs so you have food and bathrooms all night. Everything is bright, nice and clean and feels very safe," reports Randall K., who adds, "Free overnight stay allowed and for extra $20 you can get electricity (rows of hookups in the back of the parking lot)."

Spacious, level sites: Toledo East-Stony Ridge KOA features well-designed camping areas. Henry O. mentions, "Bathroom clean. Friendly people," while Jackie M. describes "Nice campground, gravel semi level spot. Full hookup but sewer connection was at very back of spot. We used dump station." The campground's layout accommodates various camping preferences from tent camping to larger RVs.

What you should know

Weather considerations: Summer temperatures can affect camping comfort, while spring and fall often bring rain. At Sterling State Park, "There are full hookups as well as power only sites," notes Edward C., who also warns, "Some time in June you can expect May Flies aka Fish Flies. Plan accordingly. Finally, I've never been to this park when it wasn't very windy."

Water quality issues: Lake Erie's water conditions can vary seasonally. Some campers report occasional algae blooms that may affect swimming. "There is a sandy beach on Lake Erie," states Joe S. about Sterling State Park, noting that while the beach is maintained, water conditions should be checked before planning water activities.

Site selection importance: East Harbor State Park Campground offers varied site options with different levels of privacy. "The key is site selection at East Harbor...we happened to be in section C which was a newer section of the park. Section C was nice, though in hot sunny days there is very little shade to protect you. The other sections of the park have tall shade trees that work out great," advises Mark S.

Tips for camping with families
