    Middle Ridge/Vermilion Valley Rest Area

Hook up, dump station, quiet and immaculate rest stop ad well.

This is a test area on the Ohio Turnpike. Rv owners can self pay $20 to stay overnight. Quiet area away from the semis and common parking lot, but super close still to the plaza. The plaza offers 5 restaurants and vending machines, a gift shop, and clean restrooms. Sufficient area to exercise pets.

    Sandusky-Bayshore KOA

    Nice campground

We have stayed here twice and will definitely be back. Both times at the end of September. Nice campground, friendly staff, store is well stocked for anything you may have forgotten. The playground and jump mat for kids is awesome. They usually have some kind of activity for kids on weekends. We travel with 2 large Labrador retrievers and love being able to let them play off leash in the kamp k9 dog park. The sites are a little close together and the train is loud but other than that, it’s a wonderful place to stay. Very close to Cedar Point.

    Adventure Bound Pleasant View

    Wagner Subscriber Campout

We stayed at this campground in the group camp area. The sites are tight but do provide water and 30 amp electric.

The campground offers a pond for fishing , swimming pool , bounce pad , inflatable lake fun, dog park and mini golf.

Since we were there as a group event we didn’t use any of the extras but it all looked nice and clean plus lots of fun.

Cell coverage was spotty but you could usually get some kind of signal.

The campground has a lot of seasonal sites as well as primitive tent camping and standard rv sites.

Nice Campground for a Group Event

This is our second time camping here and both times were for a group camping event. For this type of event it’s a great park. We had a whole sector the event with water and electric sites.

If we were going to camp here on our own I am not sure I would like it since it’s mostly set up for seasonal campers. So there are no hiking trail and there is also a lot of golf cart traffic.

They do offer a swimming pool , pond with inflatable slides , dog park , bound pad and miniature golf.

    Van Buren State Park Campground

    Small and peaceful

We stayed one night on our way to IN. We’ve never been here before and wanted to check it off our list. It’s a small campground with one side as equestrian and the other side not. All sites had electric and water, no full hookup. There were only drop toilets and no showers. They were clean but I don’t think I’d want to do more than a weekend there. It had a nice playground for kids and plenty of trails to hike or go horseback riding. They also had a dog park and small wildflower garden. The check in cabin had ice and wood for sale but no store. Our site was really nice. The pads were recently paved and had a huge bumper at the end. The fire ring was nice and the site had plenty of space for tents.

Guide to Fremont

Camping near Fremont, Ohio offers opportunities for outdoor recreation across northwestern Ohio. The region features elevations ranging from 580 to 850 feet above sea level with glacially formed flatlands dotted by small lakes and waterways. During summer months, temperatures average 70-85°F with increased humidity near Lake Erie campgrounds.

What to do

Hiking at Kelleys Island: Take the ferry to access 6 miles of hiking trails at Kelleys Island State Park Campground, including paths along the Lake Erie shoreline. "Brought the dog and bicycles-easy island to bicycle on/around... Loved being able to hear the waves on the beach even though our spot wasn't on the beach," notes Mary S.

Fishing opportunities: Cast a line at Chets Place, situated on water access points. "There's the river to fish in. Docks for your boat. It's a very family friendly place in the middle of nowhere yet close to everywhere," according to Melissa F.

Scuba diving: White Star Park Campground attracts divers to its clear waters. "It was filled with families and scuba divers on the weekend. The bathing facilities were clean," writes Carol S.

Bird watching excursions: East Harbor State Park offers prime birding locations within walking distance of camping areas. "It is a great place for birding, fishing, boating and close to marblehead lighthouse and the ferries to take you to Kelley's Island and Put In Bay," according to Jaclyn B.

What campers like

Spacious sites: White Star Park Campground earns praise for its layout. "Very clean, spacious, well kept up sites. Highly recommend this place!" mentions Jill B.

Clean facilities: Campers appreciate the maintenance at Toledo East-Stony Ridge KOA. "The shower house has individual bathrooms with your own sink, shower, toilet. These are kept very clean," Julia H. reports.

Wooded privacy: Leafy Oaks RV Park and Campground provides secluded camping spots. "They have a great spot that's set back in the woods. There are lots of trees. Very peaceful," comments Amanda E.

Waterfront camping: South Bass Island State Park offers premium lakeside sites. "Tent campers can choose a site directly on the lakefront; trailers & RVs must camp in the second tier but some sites still have Lake views," explains Blythe J.

What you should know

Pet restrictions vary: While most campgrounds allow pets, South Bass Island State Park Campground has specific limitations. "While the campground does allow pets, they are restricted to specific sites and can use only one of the swimming beaches," Sarah H. notes.

Ferry logistics: Island camping requires planning for transportation. "You have to take a ferry to the camp ground. Kelley's Island Ferry in Marblehead. It is a few miles to camp ground so if you are renting and don't bring a vehicle you will want to rent a golf cart," advises Lauri J.

Seasonal considerations: Some campgrounds close during winter months. Leafy Oaks operates "Apr 15 - Oct 15" according to their season information.

Insect preparation: Crystal Rock Campground requires bug spray. "Lots of bugs. Bring the spray. The people are very friendly. Has a lot of different options for camping," states Jenn B.

Tips for camping with families

Playground access: Crystal Rock Campground features several child-friendly amenities. "The owners and employees were so amazingly sweet and helpful. Tom went out of his way to make extra fun activities for the little kiddos. Our daughter really loved the sandbox, and the playground was great!" shares Crystal J.

Swimming areas: Children can enjoy designated swim zones at Kelleys Island. "Beaches, trails, biking, kayaking, and exploring the glacial grooves kept our family busy over our three night tent stay," reports Sarah H.

Recreation options: Sandusky-Bayshore KOA provides multiple activities for kids. "This campground has lots to do on the weekends... lots of things for the kids to do: play at the parks, rent bikes, swim, jumping pillow," according to Tracy C.

Site selection: Choose your location carefully for the best family experience. "The key is site selection at East Harbor...we happened to be in section C which was a newer section of the park. Section C was nice, though in hot sunny days there is very little shade to protect you," advises Mark S.

Tips from RVers

Hookup information: Toledo East-Stony Ridge KOA provides full service connections. "We had Full hook-up with a gravel pull-through. We travel towing a 14 foot trailer and were able to fit both in our pull through site along with my jeep," explains Julia H.

Size accommodation: Larger rigs can find suitable sites at several campgrounds. "A wooded campground that fit our 40 foot with tow nicely. All sites are level, gravel, and shaded," reports Never Sitting S.

Dump station access: RVers staying at Kelleys Island State Park have convenient facilities. "They have waste water stations and a potable water station. Plenty of park area and sites were spaced average apart. 2 dump stations are well graded so everything drains well," notes Timothy G.

Pet-friendly camping near Fremont, Ohio: Most RV sites allow pets with proper leashing and cleanup. "Very kid friendly. Clean bathrooms. Full hookups available. My kids had a blast!" mentions Angela C. about Sandusky-Bayshore KOA, which welcomes pets at designated sites.
