    River Trail Crossing

    Nice little campground

River Trail Crossing is privately owned, small campground (which we like) but nice and quiet. Sites include tents, small rigs and large pull through sites for big rigs. Sites located on the river are water and electric. Sites off the river have 50 amp and 30 amp. State route 95 runs to the right of the campsite so if you reserve any sites on the river (right side) you will have some traffic noise from the bridge. We reserved spot 32, farthest site to the right on the river. We loved it. The river was only about knee to hip deep. Most family’s floated with tubes and saw some kayaks. Not much for fishing at this particular section of the river. There is a paved bike/walking trail behind the campground - B&O trail. Bathrooms and showers were very clean. They do have 2 dumpsites available. We really enjoyed this campground, owners were very friendly and offer firewood and propane if needed. Mohican state park is only 10-15 minutes away which is really nice for hiking and fishing as well. We will be back!

    Gotta Getaway RV Park

    Ok

This was an overnight stay on our way to Pennsylvania. It would be a bonus for big rigs as the pull Throughs are flat and easy to get into. We tend to prefer a back in because it usually gives us a bit more protection on the backside. Unfortunately, the site we were assigned took three blocks to level up, the the power was on the wrong side and our picnic table was in the back area of another camper. The bathroom was nice and close and handy. Some great effort has been made to make it attractive with two-tone tile but that is all overshadowed by the amount of spiders and bugs. I am a full-time RV year and shower all over the United States and this was one of the buggiest ever. The majority of this campground is for seasonals. There are some very nice seasonal lots with a small pond in their back Yard. The owner was very friendly and helpful on the phone. Serves a variety of needs.

    Lighthouse Point at Cedar Point

    Immaculate!

Absolutely beautiful RV park! Gorgeous views of Lake Erie and walking distance to the gate of Cedar Point. Beautiful landscaping and very clean. Staff is incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. Good little camp store with reasonable(ish) prices. Too chilly to swim but the pool looks nice. Bathhouses are updated, clean and very nice, but pretty far from about half of the sites. One section has premium sites with upgraded grills and fire pits and crazy good lake views. The regular sites are still well landscaped and each have a grill and an extra long picnic table, but no fire pit. You can bring your own fire pit if your site doesn't have one. No bikes or golf carts allowed on the grounds, but there are Cedar Point buses available day & night as well as rickshaws during the day. Until now I have held Disney World's Fort Wilderness as the penultimate place for camping but they could learn a few things from Cedar Point! We stayed five nights in a pull through sites, #231. I would love to snag a premium site for our next trip but it may be difficult because they allow you to book up five years in advance!

    Timber Ridge Campgrounds

    Great Experience

We stayed at Timber Ridge for a month and found this to be a very nice campground. Stores are very level, full hookups, fishing pond, amazing indoor swimming pool. Staff was extremely nice. Many if the campers are long term but have several overnight doors as well.

We stayed in a 29ft Travel Trailer, but sites could handle the largest of rigs.

    Mohican State Park Campground

    Winter Time But No Snow

We stayed on a full hook up site (turned off for the season) that had a nice concrete level pad. There was also a nice side pad that kept our chairs clean. A little further back in the campground to be close to the shower house that was open. Then found out that comfort station next to us was open - nice! Also close the water which was full and rushing all weekend.

The camp store was open on the weekend and the staff was nice to chat with. They had wood, but it was slab cut which doesn’t burn very well. We decided against it. Lots of snacks and other items still available.

Some sites were really close to the water, almost too close as the water flooded a few spots. The campground is nice to walk if you like to get in a little workout. They also have small camper cabins and them much bigger cabins which a few are pet friendly.

We went on a hike by the covered bridge to one of the waterfalls. Lots of trials to choose from.

    East Harbor State Park Campground

    East harbor state park

Very clean. Close to everything you need close to ferry clean showers camp monitors were friendly sites are paved. 50/30 amp hookups Our site was just a standard electric site. They do have 150 full hook up sites or more. We made our reservations late we were not really concerned about water or sewer as we planned to use the camp ground facilities anyway. Fresh water is available to fill your holding tanks. Dump stations are easily acceptable as are water filling stations Big Boopers restaurant is a great place for breakfast lunch or dinner. If you do t feel like cooking it’s about a 10 min drive. Campground has very good WiFi. We have Verizon had very good reception inland and I. The islands. Bass island is a fun day trip. Sites were level left to right. Had a slight pitch front to back.

Crystal Rock Campground - Sandusky, OH

    Clean & cute

This campground was family friendly, dog friendly, and very clean. About 30 minutes from cedar point. Our only complaint and the reason we’re docking a star is because our site was right next to a giant generator that seems to run 24/7 and sites seemed a little tight. Otherwise we enjoyed this campground very much.

Guide to Berlin Heights

Berlin Heights, Ohio camping sites stretch along the western Lake Erie shoreline where elevations range from 630 to 850 feet above sea level. The region experiences hot, humid summers with temperatures averaging 82°F in July and cooler spring and fall seasons ideal for camping. Most campgrounds in this area remain open from May through October, though a select few offer year-round accommodations.

What to do

Lake Erie fishing access: Many campgrounds near Berlin Heights provide convenient lake access for anglers. At Bayfront Resort, guests appreciate the private boat ramp. "The only problem was I don't have a boat or jet ski to take advantage of their private boat ramp. Overall the fam had a good time," notes Jeffrey L.

Cedar Point visits: Several campgrounds position themselves as Cedar Point basecamps. Lighthouse Point at Cedar Point offers special benefits for park visitors. "Walk right into the park or swim park! Literally the best way to stay at Cedar Point!!!" reports Malinda B., while another camper mentions "The campground stay also included early entry passes into the park at 8:45 AM before the opening for regular entry at 10:00 am."

Splash pad enjoyment: During hot summer days, water features provide relief. Cedarlane RV Resort offers multiple water options. "My daughter had fun doing the gem mining and playing in the pool and splash pad," shares Ashley R., adding "They have an adults only pool as well for those looking for a break from all the kids."

What campers like

Convenient overnight stops: Several rv parks near Berlin Heights, Ohio position themselves as convenient turnpike stops. Vermilion Valley Ohio Turnpike RV Lot receives praise for its simplicity. "Clean with electric hookup for $20. Dump station as you exit. Gas and convenience items are extra helpful. Safe environment to snooze overnight," mentions Susan B.

Updated facilities: Recent renovations have improved camping options around Berlin Heights. "This campground has been wonderfully updated! The owners have added in an additional playground, dog park, newly paved roadways, newly redone building, a new pavilion, fire pit, and boat parking!" explains April J. about Sandusky Milan RV Park.

Waterfront views: Lakefront sites rank among the most popular in the region. "We arrived and were able to upgrade to site #1 due to a cancellation, overlooking the Ohio River. No one between us and the river, and we had a grand view," shares Robert T. about Sunset Springs RV Resort, noting "The campground is very well kept, all sites would have been a good spot to call home for a couple nights."

What you should know

Seasonal availability: Most Berlin Heights area campgrounds operate from May through October. Riverview RV Park specifically runs "May 1st to October 15th," while Gotta Getaway RV Park operates "May 1 to October 31." For off-season travelers, Vermilion Valley Ohio Turnpike RV Lot remains open "All year."

Site leveling considerations: Some RV parks require additional equipment for comfortable setup. "Unfortunately, the site we were assigned took three blocks to level up, then the power was on the wrong side and our picnic table was in the back area of another camper," notes Sue B. about Gotta Getaway RV Park.

Bathroom maintenance varies: Cleanliness standards differ significantly between rv parks near Berlin Heights. Fort Firelands RV Park maintains clean facilities. "This is a quiet campground near Lake Erie... The roads are paved and they have a nice outdoor pool, small playground, and small miniature golf course," writes Renee L., though noting "It was also very buggy in the evenings."

Tips for camping with families

Check pool amenities: Water features rank highly for family campers. "This campground has a little bit of everything. Rv parking, tent sites and several cabins to rent. Rates are decent. Has lots of stuff for kids to do. Pools are small and can be a little crowded during the summer on weekends. They have a great splash pad and wading pool for kids," reports Jeffrey C. about Cedarlane RV Resort.

Consider day-use beaches: Some nearby state parks offer beach access even if you're not staying there. "We visited east harbor state park while there and the beach was weird, there's a rock wall bordering the lake so you have to either climb down the low wall or walk to the designated opening in the wall (lots of people just climbed over) but once in the water it felt like walking on play doh and the water was pretty shallow definitely a great area for kids especially smaller kids."

Look for kid-friendly activities: Sunset Springs RV Resort schedules regular events. "The campground is very well kept... It was also a pretty quiet camp, compared to others, but they had their usual weekend events during the day for kids, to keep them occupied. Saturday evening they had a pot luck and then live music, which was good enough being a free event."

Tips from RVers

Consider concrete pad locations: Level sites with quality pads make setup easier. "Concrete pads. Level! Full hookups were simple to use. The pool area was super clean. One of the things I liked best was there was a garbage can on every site!" shares Chuck E. about Lighthouse Point at Cedar Point.

Book early for premium locations: The most desirable sites fill quickly, especially during summer. "I would love to snag a premium site for our next trip but it may be difficult because they allow you to book up five years in advance!" notes Chase G. about popular campgrounds near Cedar Point.

Check adapter requirements: Some RV parks around Berlin Heights only offer specific electrical hookups. "The electric is 50 amp. They have connectors you can use for a $25 deposit and then get your money back when you return the cord. They accept check and cash, no credit cards," explains Renee L. about Fort Firelands RV Park.
