Weather patterns typically allow comfortable camping from April through October, with most campgrounds closing for winter except Punderson and West Branch State Parks which remain open year-round. Several visitors mention the importance of proper food storage, as wildlife encounters are common. According to a review, "The raccoons are very intelligent and not scared of you so make sure you lock up the food in your vehicle." Proximity to natural attractions represents a significant draw for campers, with multiple reviews highlighting visits to nearby waterfalls and trails in Cuyahoga Valley National Park. Sites with shade and privacy vary by campground, with Heritage Farms offering camping among Christmas trees and West Branch providing wooded sites with good separation between neighbors.

      Roundup Lake RV Resort

      Sites close together

We didn’t engage in the many things to do. We are using it as a base camp to go to a Guardians game, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
On the weekend when it was pretty full, it was tight quarters and this you can hear lots of people. We kinda gave up having a quiet night and went inside the camper. Now it is not the weekend and very few people around. Seasonal are all together, transients grouped together. Did get Hershey’s ice cream at their arcade.

      Silver Springs Campground

      Beautiful peaceful campground

We paid $25 for the night and it was definitely worth it! Beautiful grassy area with spacious sites. There were clean porta potties, potable water, dump stations, and also a working restroom but we didn’t try it so not sure what that was like. Great cell service and data connection. Only ~15 minutes drive from Cuyahoga! Overall lovely campsite would 100% recommend!

      Punderson State Park Campground

      Quiet and Lush

Our site was level, although I observed many that are not. It was fairly quiet, although the sites are pretty small. Ours was described as 'waterfront', but it was so overgrown between the site and the shoreline that there was no access and the lake wasn't visible. Bathrooms were very clean and the shower worked great.

      Mosquito Lake State Park Campground

      Relaxing and peaceful

Mosquito Lake gets a bad rap because of its name. We had such a great time launching our kayak from our campsite! I’ve attached a highlighted map marked with the sights on or very close to the water to launch a kayak. Additional kayak launch sites available around the park if you can’t get one of these. It’s great campground if you have kids or a dog. Plenty of great playgrounds and a dog park/dog beach. The camp host was very nice and welcoming. The wash house has laundry and showers. Everything was clean.

      Perry Township Park

      Great view of Lake Erie!

Gated and private campground. You can come and go as you please 24/7 with a gate card. Secure and clean bathrooms. Laundry room. Camp store and more. Wi-Fi is available. But the view on being right on lake Erie is the best. It's a must campground, at least once.

      Perry Township Park

      Perry Township Park and Campground

Another pleasant stay at this campground! We had made our reservations online prior to our stay and the process was super easy. And as always, the campground host was very friendly and helpful. Unlike a lot of city parks I've been to, this one is behind a gate and the showers/restrooms have codes you're provided with during check-in, so that helps keep things safe, quiet, and clean. I still haven't used the showers here, but the separate restrooms were spotless. The park itself is nice and was busy with families enjoying outdoor activities. Everyone was also respectful during quiet hours.

      Silver Springs Campground

      Nice local park

Nice place to stay for the weekend. Inexpensive. No water hookups at the individual sites but potable water is available in the park. The downsides are the sights can get muddy if there is rain. Only portapotties nearby.

We had big storms roll through when we were there. Unfortunately a large branch broke off of a nearby tree and hit the engine hood of our RV and dented it in several places. It could have been much worse though and not the park’s fault. Could happen anywhere there are trees.

      Headwaters Park

      Campsite A

Had a nice stay at the Camp Site A tent site, which they label as their ADA Accessible site.

Overall me and the kids had a really nice time hanging atbthe site and exploring around the lake. Lots of friendly people too.

      Pros:

      • Tent site was generally good with a picnic table and fire pit on-site
      • Pull in parking right next to the campsite (which seems to be true for all tents and leantos)
      • Great walkable area with lots to explore with the kids
      • A few nice things just a 10min drive away like the Eagle Park splash park and playground and the cute Burton town square.
      • Tons of birds for all my bird watchers
      • Right at the entrance to the tent site area and right next to the restrooms
      • Sometimes people bring horses down there for a walk
      • Can't see other campers tent from your site (which i like because Im out here to get away from people)

      Cons:

      • Being right next the restrooms and tent area entrance is a higher traffic area. Didn't bother us much but could get annoying if woken up by a late night driver or door slam
      • The stump on the tent site has a snake in it. Didn't bother us at all, only saw it once as it was slithering away, but thought other might like to know.
      • Toilet was out of hand sanitizer

      FAQ:

      • No electic
      • No plumbing or showers (it is basically an outhouse)

    What to do

Fishing opportunities: Several campgrounds offer fishing access without requiring an Ohio fishing license. At Punderson State Park Campground, visitors can enjoy both shoreline and boat fishing. Water recreation: Swimming and boating options exist at multiple locations. The Woodside Lake Park provides inflatables and water activities during summer months. James S. reports, "The swimming pond has inflatables and boat rentals. There's good fishing, and typically lots of activities."

Trail access: Hiking trails range from easy to moderate difficulty with some connecting to larger networks. At Nelson-Kennedy Ledges Quarry Park, visitors find unique geological features. "There are numerous trails for different skill levels and tons of caves to explore. Also the view at the end is fantastic and is a great place to relax and read for the day," shares Anthony S.

    What campers like

Affordable options: Budget-conscious campers can find sites at various price points with basic amenities. At Silver Springs Campground, campers appreciate the value. One visitor mentioned, "We stayed for only one night but I wish we stayed longer! The campsite was quaint but very peaceful. Sites were a good size and fit the online description well."

Waterfront sites: Lake-facing campsites offer direct water access with views and convenient boat launching. Gary G. at West Branch State Park notes, "Gave it an extra star for proximity to Cuyahoga Valley NP, bargain price for a site with electric hookups, quiet setting and helpful hosts."

Privacy levels: Site separation varies significantly between campgrounds. At Heritage Farms, sites spread throughout a Christmas tree farm provide separation. "Sites are spread apart nicely. Each one has a picnic table and fire ring. Grassy spots that are fairly level and mowed. Came with firewood and a little kindling too," notes Josh W.

    What you should know

Wildlife encounters: Raccoons and other small mammals frequently visit campsites. At Roundup Lake RV Resort, precautions are necessary: "We arrived mid-September 2020, so Covid has had its impact and it's past Labor Day so pools/lakes are likely closed to swimming most years anyway, but given the size and amenities this campground boasts, I feel it must be a real attractive campground for families during the summer."

Site conditions: Many campgrounds have uneven terrain requiring leveling equipment. Joe I. at West Branch State Park observed, "First time at this park I can see why it's always booked up. It seems like the sites are good sized but some are on slopes even the pads so make sure to bring stuff to level."

Reservation requirements: Peak season weekend camping typically requires booking 3-6 months in advance. Abbey E. notes about Silver Springs, "We stayed for only one night but I wish we stayed longer! The campsite was quaint but very peaceful. Sites were a good size and fit the online description well."

    Tips for camping with families

Playground access: Several campgrounds maintain playground equipment with varying age appropriateness. At Punderson State Park, families find suitable facilities. "This is a good campground for families. We tent camped here. The sites are pretty far apart and you feel secluded but, at the same time, the bathrooms are close by. There is a lot of hiking and things to do around the area and even a playground for the kiddos," explains Jenny K.

Group activities: Organized events occur regularly at certain campgrounds with weekend themes. At Streetsboro-Cleveland SE KOA, families can participate in scheduled programs. "We had a nice time with our kids, friends and dogs. The dog park was a bonus... we camped right next to it. perfect! playground, big open area and a nice pool!" shares Christy D.

Water safety: Lake and pond swimming areas have varying depths with limited lifeguard presence. Jennifer H. at Streetsboro-Cleveland SE KOA commented, "We stopped here for a couple nights to go to a Cleveland Guardians game and go to Cuyahoga National Park. It was within great proximity to both and had all the amenities the kids and I love. Swimming (wish it were open a little later…) laundry 24/7, a game room, store with just what we needed."

    Tips from RVers

Site leveling challenges: Many campgrounds have sloped sites requiring substantial leveling equipment. At Punderson State Park, Coy warns, "The camp grounds for RV's is not the best. Very few full hookups. Rest of the sites only have 15-20 amp service. The lots are not even close the level. You will need a lot of blocks to get close to level."

Electric service variations: Amperage varies widely between campgrounds with limited 50-amp availability. "Small camp but has great shower/restrooms conveniently located. Nice pool and catch and release fishing pond. Great camp store with a book exchange bookcase. Great amenities at the store including fudge and ice cream," reports Rae Ann P. about Streetsboro KOA.

Water filtration needs: Several campgrounds utilize well water with mineral content requiring filtration. One review of Woodside Lake Park mentioned, "Old Park With Iron Laden Well Water Beware. I stayed at this park for 2 months in 2023 and was planning on staying for 5 months in 2025. I left after 2 months due to iron & sulfur laden well water."
