Riverview RV Park in Vermilion operates from May through mid-October with full hookup sites offering electric, water, and sewer connections. The park features 50-amp service and accommodates large RVs on its spacious sites. "Everyone at this campground is so friendly even the staff is great," notes one visitor about Riverview. Pull-through sites for large motorhomes are limited at some facilities, with Cedarlane RV Resort and Gotta Getaway RV Park offering the most spacious options for big rigs. Dump stations are available at nearly all parks, though one camper mentioned that Riverview RV Park "does not have sewage and pumps you out twice a week if seasonal and yearly. If you need a pump out it's $20 for emergency situations." Many parks close for winter between late October and May, with only the turnpike rest area providing year-round overnight RV parking. Pet policies vary, with most parks allowing pets but enforcing leash requirements and designated walking areas. Propane fill service is limited, available primarily at Lighthouse Point.

    East Harbor State Park Campground

Spacious campground with nice beach on Lake Erie

Ohio’s largest state park. Can accommodate big rigs. Most sites are electric, a few with full hookups. Many pull through sites. Very scenic

    Gotta Getaway RV Park

    Ok

This was an overnight stay on our way to Pennsylvania. It would be a bonus for big rigs as the pull Throughs are flat and easy to get into. We tend to prefer a back in because it usually gives us a bit more protection on the backside. Unfortunately, the site we were assigned took three blocks to level up, the the power was on the wrong side and our picnic table was in the back area of another camper. The bathroom was nice and close and handy. Some great effort has been made to make it attractive with two-tone tile but that is all overshadowed by the amount of spiders and bugs. I am a full-time RV year and shower all over the United States and this was one of the buggiest ever. The majority of this campground is for seasonals. There are some very nice seasonal lots with a small pond in their back Yard. The owner was very friendly and helpful on the phone. Serves a variety of needs.

    Lighthouse Point at Cedar Point

    Immaculate!

Absolutely beautiful RV park! Gorgeous views of Lake Erie and walking distance to the gate of Cedar Point. Beautiful landscaping and very clean. Staff is incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. Good little camp store with reasonable(ish) prices. Too chilly to swim but the pool looks nice. Bathhouses are updated, clean and very nice, but pretty far from about half of the sites. One section has premium sites with upgraded grills and fire pits and crazy good lake views. The regular sites are still well landscaped and each have a grill and an extra long picnic table, but no fire pit. You can bring your own fire pit if your site doesn't have one. No bikes or golf carts allowed on the grounds, but there are Cedar Point buses available day & night as well as rickshaws during the day. Until now I have held Disney World's Fort Wilderness as the penultimate place for camping but they could learn a few things from Cedar Point! We stayed five nights in a pull through sites, #231. I would love to snag a premium site for our next trip but it may be difficult because they allow you to book up five years in advance!

    Timber Ridge Campgrounds

    Great Experience

We stayed at Timber Ridge for a month and found this to be a very nice campground. Stores are very level, full hookups, fishing pond, amazing indoor swimming pool. Staff was extremely nice. Many if the campers are long term but have several overnight doors as well.

We stayed in a 29ft Travel Trailer, but sites could handle the largest of rigs.

    Outstanding site in great campground

Stayed on a premium patio site and loved it. The campground and staff were awesome. Level site, great hook ups, awesome WiFi and cable. Clean facilities, 3 lakes (one with a fishing pier), 2 dog parks, and super friendly staff. 30 min to Cleveland. Walmart, gas stations and restaurants within 5 miles. Just off Ohio Turnpike, but can't hear it. Definitely recommend this KOA

    East Harbor State Park Campground

    East harbor state park

Very clean. Close to everything you need close to ferry clean showers camp monitors were friendly sites are paved. 50/30 amp hookups Our site was just a standard electric site. They do have 150 full hook up sites or more. We made our reservations late we were not really concerned about water or sewer as we planned to use the camp ground facilities anyway. Fresh water is available to fill your holding tanks. Dump stations are easily acceptable as are water filling stations Big Boopers restaurant is a great place for breakfast lunch or dinner. If you do t feel like cooking it’s about a 10 min drive. Campground has very good WiFi. We have Verizon had very good reception inland and I. The islands. Bass island is a fun day trip. Sites were level left to right. Had a slight pitch front to back.

Crystal Rock Campground - Sandusky, OH

    Clean & cute

This campground was family friendly, dog friendly, and very clean. About 30 minutes from cedar point. Our only complaint and the reason we’re docking a star is because our site was right next to a giant generator that seems to run 24/7 and sites seemed a little tight. Otherwise we enjoyed this campground very much.

    Great stop for one night

Great campground on the smaller side, so not too much traffic driving around. Our site was gravel and fairly unlevel. Did our best to level it out but still have water collecting to the left. We lucked out and got a pull through last minute.

Water pressure was low. ATT cell coverage was full. Lots of shade so couldn’t use our Starlink internet but the campground internet was great. Even had video camera meetings on it while working in the morning.

Worth noting we were having some rig problems (slide out stuck in) and after calling four local places not one of them returned our calls. Only stayed the one night because we need to move on to get this fixed.

    Punderson State Park Campground

    Excellent Park & Campground!

We have just returned from our first stay at Punderson and have no complaints! Sites are smallish, but clean, mostly level and well kept, as is the camping area in general. There are NO pull-through sites I am aware of. Had a picnic with nearby family at one of the pavilions… again, neat and clean and well taken care of. Very quiet at night, which is something we look for. Firewood for sale on site was a bit pricey, but that’s to be expected. Only complaint was lack of strong WIFI, but we have our own uplink. Will definitely return!

Guide to Avon

RV campgrounds near Avon, Ohio offer camping experiences with varying levels of amenities within 30 miles of the city. Most campgrounds in the region operate seasonally from May to October, closing during winter months due to northeastern Ohio's cold weather patterns. The area features a mix of privately owned RV parks and county fairgrounds, with several sites providing convenient access to Lake Erie attractions.

What to do

Cedar Point access: Lighthouse Point at Cedar Point campers can walk directly to the amusement park. As one camper notes, "Walk right into the park or swim park! Literally the best way to stay at Cedar Point!!!" Staying at the campground grants early entry passes, giving you access at 8:45 AM before the 10:00 AM general opening.

Lake activities: The region offers multiple water recreation options within a short drive of most campgrounds. A camper at Cedarlane RV Resort mentions visiting nearby attractions: "We visited east harbor state park while there and the beach was weird, there's a rock wall bordering the lake so you have to either climb down the low wall or walk to the designated opening in the wall."

Family events: Weekend entertainment is common at several campgrounds during summer months. At Willow Lake Park Inc, "They offer plenty of activities for everyone. Had a band each night! Bad Juju was definitely a favorite of mine. During the band and the day they have a concession stand open with really good food."

What campers like

Clean facilities: Many campgrounds maintain well-kept common areas and bathhouses. At Cedarlane RV Resort, "The pools and bathrooms were clean. The water pressure in the shower house was lacking but I've realized that seems to be at every campground we've stayed at." The campground offers both adult-only and family swimming pools.

Spacious sites: Level sites with adequate spacing are valued by RVers. As one camper at Sandusky Milan RV Park noted after their recent visit: "This campground has been wonderfully updated! The owners have added in an additional playground, dog park, newly paved roadways, newly redone building, a new pavilion, fire pit, and boat parking!"

Campground improvements: Many parks in the area have undergone recent renovations. One Willow Lake Park visitor explained, "The owners are making tremendous improvements to this campground. We visited 7 years ago and said we would never go back. Had some friends that stayed there tell us about new ownership right about the time Covid hit."

What you should know

Seasonal operation: Most RV parks near Avon close during winter. Lighthouse Point at Cedar Point reviewer explained, "We got there late at 9:00 pm and didn't have to check out until 8:00 pm the next day so our RV stayed plugged in all day."

Varying water quality: Some campgrounds have water quality issues. At Willow Lake Park, "I'm not sure what's up with the water, but it smells like metal and you're probably better off bringing your own drinking water."

Site privacy: Privacy between sites varies widely. A Fort Firelands RV Park camper described their experience: "This is a quiet campground near Lake Erie. The campground seems like it's mainly seasonal but they did have some transient camping and tent sites. We stayed at site 156. The site was large with a large grassy area right on the lagoon."

Tips for camping with families

Pool options: Look for campgrounds with designated child areas. At Cedarlane RV Resort, "My daughter had fun doing the gem mining and playing in the pool and splash pad. They have a small convenience store on site that's reasonably priced. They have an adults only pool as well for those looking for a break from all the kids."

Playground access: Several campgrounds feature upgraded play areas. Sandusky Milan RV Park offers "clean bathrooms/showers, mostly level sites, full hook ups available, tent area available, nice pool and play area."

Affordable attractions: Gotta Getaway RV Park serves as a budget-friendly base for exploring the region. The park accommodates 102 sites and operates from May 1 to October 31. One camper noted the park "would be a bonus for big rigs as the pull Throughs are flat and easy to get into."

Tips from RVers

Overnight options: For travelers needing a quick stop, the Vermilion Valley Ohio Turnpike RV Lot provides convenient access. A camper describes, "Pulled in to the RV parking area around 9:45 pm, there was one other vehicle there. 3 more came and parked before midnight. Felt completely safe and not crowded by the campers on either side."

Electric adapters: Check for compatible hookups before arrival. Fort Firelands RV Park camper noted, "The electric is 50 amp. They have connectors you can use for a $25 deposit and then get your money back when you return the cord."

Dump station availability: Not all parks offer full hookups. A Gotta Getaway visitor mentioned, "Unfortunately, the site we were assigned took three blocks to level up, the power was on the wrong side and our picnic table was in the back area of another camper."
