Clarence Fahnestock State Park Campground accommodates RVs with electric hookups and water connections, though without sewer hookups on site. Black Bear RV Park in Florida, NY offers 74 full hookup sites with 50-amp service and operates year-round. "Our site was a back in spot with plenty of room between campers. Cell service varies significantly between locations, with stronger coverage at lower elevation sites. Many RV parks in the region welcome pets but enforce leash requirements. Dump stations are available at select locations including Beaver Pond and Black Bear RV Park. Winter camping options are limited primarily to Black Bear RV Park, while most facilities close between November and April. One RV traveler mentioned that "sites were nicely wooded, very well spaced, fairly level with 50A service and water hookup," though noting that water spigots were sometimes shared between sites with hose caddies provided.

    Jellystone Park Gardiner

    FAMILY HEAVEN

This is a HUGE Jellystone park in upstate NY. There are literally hundreds of cabins and RV sites. We are in site 136, which is a back in spot. Plenty of room between campers. Gravel spot which is pretty level. Full hookups. Picnic table, cable, fire ring, large camp store, showers, toilets, and full laundry area. Also has playgrounds, pillow jump, fishing pond, golf carts, game room, Waterpark, pool, and tennis courts. All of this nestled into the mountains. Nice and family friendly.

    Kymers Camping Resort

Fun, friendly & nestled in the woods

We stayed at Kymer's on a whim for a weekend, so we could be close to Mountain Creek for a Spartan Race. It truly exceeded our expectations in all aspects. This is a family friendly, camper-friendly place. Lots of seasonals- everyone waves, everyone stops to chat. This is what a campground should feel like. The sound of laughter and play sitting around the huge, clean pool was refreshing. Our site was Oak 10. It was level, good placement of electric water & sewer connects. Camp store has all the basics you might need. There is a brook that flows adjacent to the property. It's peaceful & magical. Pet friendly, although we didn't have our pup with us. We will be back again. I almost feel like I'm revealing a hidden gem with this post. 💎

    Jellystone Park Gardiner

    Chillaxing Getaway

We stayed at Yogi Bear’s Jellystone Park Camp-Resort along the Walllkill River in Gardiner, NY, for a four-night chill-out vacation. We’re so glad we did!

Our site was called Riverfront Red Carpet. It was spacious, level, waterfront, and partially shaded thanks to some mature trees. Site#22 included a large concrete pad, picnic table, charcoal grill, and large fire ring. Everything was in great condition. It was nice having plenty of space to not be on top of our neighbors. We had full hookups with 50-amp electrical service- which all worked fine.

The entire park seemed to be well maintained and clean. There’s a small waterpark which seemed good for younger kids, an eatery, and ice cream shop. The camp store was well-stocked with food, camping supplies, and souvenirs. There is a game room and multiple bath houses(which we didn’t use). The park’s roadways are all paved and easy to navigate. Despite being nearly filled to capacity including tons of young children, the park was quiet each night with no noisy ‘bad campers.’

We found our interactions with the staff to be helpful and attentive. We really appreciate friendly staff.

Overall, this was a great stay at a great RV park. I’d only mention two negatives, neither was a big deal. It took 45-minutes to check-in. In fairness, we arrived at check-in time(3:00 PM) on a Sunday. There were a dozen other RVs checking in at the same time and they just weren’t equipped for that. Also, our Verizon cell service was practically non-existent and the park’s wifi service was just as horrible. If we needed connectivity, this would have been a major problem. I reduced a star in my review simply because it’s 2021 and wifi has become an expectation.

We booked on campspot.com and paid$196 per night+$35 to lock our site+$2 booking fee less a 20% promo discount.

    Black Rock State Park Campground

    A nice family friendly campground

This is a nice family friendly campground that makes for easy trips. There are a variety of sites available, from open field sites to more wooded and private areas. The campground also has a lake for swimming, trails for hiking, and some nice quiet areas for fishing. Well maintained bathrooms, with available showers, are also spread throughout the grounds. Not pet friendly unfortunately.

    Mahlon Dickerson Reservation

    Nice, small, spacious campground

We stayed at site 15 for 5 days. The sites are nicely wooded, very well spaced, fairly level with 50A service and water hookup. Although the water spigots were shared between sites, they provide hose caddies that should reach most RV hookups. No sewer hookup, but there is a convenient dump station. There are no fire rings in the RV section, only raised grills. We had the place pretty much to ourselves during the week, but the weekend did get busy. AT&T had ok data connection with 1-2 bars most of the time. There is no satellite coverage due to the heavy tree canopy. OTA TV was very inconsistent using an external omni antenna. There is no WiFi. There is a very nice network of trails in the reservation, most if not all were leashed dog friendly. There is a very nice restaurant, Stone Water, less than 10 miles away and is right on lake Hopatcong.

    Jerry's Three River Campground

    Friendly and fun!

I have been camping at Jerry’s for over 10 years now. The owner is friendly and stops to chat often with us each time we go. The campground is VERY rustic with little to no amenities. There are tent sites, seasonal sites for RVs, group tent & RV sites and group/pavilion sites. There are little to no sites with electric/water hook ups however, there is a centrally located water spout to use. There are bathrooms/wash houses- they are cleaned once or twice a day but honestly, they get filthy. Jerry’s is a good place for a great time with friends; large groups usually visit Jerry’s year after year. No one bothers you and everyone respects the rules, most of the time. ☺️ We have taken our children there often but I wouldn’t recommend or call it family friendly. The location is beautiful and about 2 hours from NYC.

    Mountain Top RV Park

    Great Stopover Campground

We recently had the pleasure of staying at Mountain Top and were were impressed by the exceptional experience and service provided by the owners. The newly upgraded camp infrastructure elevated the stay, providing amenities for comfort and entertainment. The family-friendly atmosphere was evident through the thoughtfully designed property, including an updated pool, playground, game room, and a brand-new pickleball court that added a unique touch to the stay. The investment in new 50amp wiring, upgraded sewer systems, and newer water lines  provided convenient camping experience. Overall, this campground exceeded expectations, offering a blend of modern convenience and family-oriented fun that made our stay memorable.

The video posted shows the full hook-up area. The water and electric sites and tent sites were tucked away in a more wooded environment.

    New York City North-Newburgh KOA

    Good amenities and fun experience!

Campsites Great campsites, wooded and cozy, though a little tight for longer rigs as our neighbors found out when they ran over a wooden post backing in. But spaced apart nicely with lots of vegetation between. Nice and level. Amenities Bathrooms are older and need of some repair but let me tell you I was very happy to see a normal shower head with real hot water! So no complaints here. Laundry facilities were clean and open 24/7 with reasonable prices 2.50/2.00 washer/dryer. And the dryers actually worked. Small dog park, communal spaces, and a camp store all made the place feel like a little village. They even have a wine store- cab sav was good. WiFi I work remotely and WiFi is always an issue. We have Starlink but in a wooded campsite, connecting is an issue but luckily their WiFi was great. Had no issues and could stream just fine. Halloween! We visited mid October and folks had sites decorated and the KOA has trick or treating and other activities every weekend in Oct. we were SO bummed to be leaving on a Friday and miss the festivities because it looked really fun. Would definitely go back. Also, staff was super nice.

Guide to Garrison

Camping near Garrison, New York offers diverse accommodation options in the Hudson River Valley. Sites range in elevation from riverfront locations at 10 feet above sea level to mountain campgrounds at elevations exceeding 1,200 feet. Most campgrounds in this region have varying cell service reliability, with connectivity strongest at lower elevations and often spotty in forested areas.

What to do

Swimming and recreation: Clarence Fahnestock State Park Campground features Canopus Lake with a sandy beach area. "The beach is closed after Labor Day to the public, but open to people staying at the campsite. Clean and beautiful," notes one camper at Clarence Fahnestock State Park Campground.

Hiking opportunities: Taconic State Park offers trail access directly from camping areas. "There's a trailhead at the end of the campground that connects to the other trails in Taconic State Park," shares a visitor to Rudd Pond Area — Taconic State Park. Most trail systems connect to longer routes with moderate difficulty ratings.

Fishing access: Rudd Pond provides excellent fishing for bass enthusiasts. "The sites were a little close together, but being able to fish and catching 2 decent-sized largemouth bass made everything all ok! There is plenty of fishing access from shore and you can rent a boat for the whole day," mentions a satisfied angler.

Urban exploration: Liberty Harbor RV Park serves as a convenient base for NYC exploration. "There is a ferry 100-yards away that takes you to Wall Street M-F. There is a great market about 1/4 of a mile away, and the path that can take you to WTC or 33rd Street area is only a mile away," explains a visitor to Liberty Harbor RV Park.

What campers like

Natural water features: Many campers appreciate the streams running through campsites. "Our site was up front and we didn't venture into the park. We had one and a babbling brook was 30 feet behind us. Great spot for morning coffee," explains a visitor to Thousand Trails Rondout Valley.

Wildlife viewing: Several campgrounds offer opportunities to spot local wildlife. "The gem is the beautiful grounds, river, and parklike setting. Lots of wildlife around," notes a camper at Tri-State RV Park regarding the natural surroundings.

Family-friendly amenities: Rondout Valley features multiple recreation options. "It offers a pool, playground, and activities that include bocce ball, shuffleboard, and horseshoes. The creek that runs by the campground is gorgeous, and my kids had fun finding Crayfish," shares a family who visited the campground.

Platform tent sites: Beaver Pond Campground offers elevated camping platforms. "The biggest positive about Beaver Pond is how spread out it was. You definitely feel like you have your own space and are not camping on top of your neighbor. Many of the camping options were on platforms which is especially nice if it recently rained," explains a camper at Beaver Pond Campground.

What you should know

Bear activity: Wildlife sightings are common in certain campgrounds. "Welcome to Bear Mountain grumbles the park ranger as he sits in complete darkness! The wildlife do roam around your campsite so be mindful of putting food and garbage away before sleeping," warns a camper at Beaver Pond Campground.

Bathroom facilities: Quality varies significantly between locations. "I do feel the campground bathhouse really needed more attention... while it had clearly been painted this past year, it was very 'buggy' - and did not appear to have been thoroughly cleaned since spring," notes a visitor to Clarence Fahnestock State Park.

Noise levels: Some campgrounds experience more activity than others. "There is a constant buzz in the air of conversation, music, laughter and shrieking toddlers. Quiet time at night is laughable as the enjoyment of being in nature rages on into the early morning," mentions a Beaver Pond visitor.

Site selection: Research specific sites before booking. "This is one of my favorite campsites I have been to but only because after several visits we have finally found our favorite site. This place can book up during camping season in the Northeast so make sure to book early in advance," advises a regular visitor to Tri-State RV Park.

Tips for camping with families

Campground activities: Family-focused campgrounds offer planned events. "This is a large family campground with tons of stuff to do, I was pleasantly surprised by how quiet it was," reports a visitor to Thousand Trails Rondout Valley.

Swimming options: Many families prioritize water access. "They have a pool, playground, and a brand-new pickleball court that added a unique touch to the stay," notes a visitor to Mountain Top RV Park. Swimming beaches typically open Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day.

Playground access: Multiple campgrounds feature play areas for children. "Campground is large with nice size sites. Too hot today, will check it out tonight. Nice pool, this is a good family campground for kids," mentions a summer visitor to Skyway Camping Resort.

Nearby activities: Consider proximity to attractions beyond the campground. "The nearby towns are adorable and offer shopping, hiking, farms, and more," advises a visitor to Thousand Trails Rondout Valley.

Tips from RVers

Hookup details: Most rv sites near Garrison, New York offer water and electric connections. "Sites were nicely wooded, very well spaced, fairly level with 50A service and water hookup," describes one RV visitor.

Year-round availability: Limited campgrounds remain open during winter months. "This is a Thousand trails campground so it was free. I think the regular price is $64. Full hookups, tents and cabins to rent. Pleanty to do in and around campground," explains a visitor to Skyway Camping Resort about pricing and amenities.

Site leveling considerations: Terrain varies significantly between campgrounds. "Sites are on a gravel lot. Restrooms are clean. Not much else to say about this CG, is just a parking lot with hookups," reports a camper about Tri-State RV Park, highlighting the practical nature of some rv sites near Garrison.

Seasonal infrastructure concerns: Water systems may be affected by weather. "If you're booking, it may be best to book on the upper levels because the lower area where we were did flood pretty bad a couple times when there was a lot of rain," warns a visitor to Mountain Top RV Park.
