Best Dog-Friendly Camping near Clarence, NY

Darien Lakes State Park Campground welcomes pets throughout its serene camping areas, located just 18 miles south of Clarence. Four-legged companions must remain leashed and supervised at all designated campsites. The park offers diverse accommodation options including tent sites, RV spots with electric hookups, and hiking access to pet-friendly trails. Sleepy Hollow Lake Campground allows dogs at their lakefront sites and cabin areas, maintaining clean grounds that accommodate visitors with pets year-round from May through October. The staff remains friendly toward pet owners and their animals, though some visitors note occasional issues with maintenance of pet-friendly areas. Most campgrounds in the region enforce standard pet policies including vaccination requirements, maximum two pets per site, and proper waste disposal.

Niagara Falls/Grand Island KOA Holiday provides dedicated pet exercise areas where dogs can play off-leash after long travel days. The campground's 213 sites include pet-friendly tent spots, RV sites with full hookups, and select cabins that accommodate dogs under 50 pounds for an additional nightly fee. Seasonal considerations affect pet comfort, with summer months requiring careful attention to heat exposure at sites with limited shade. Hiking trails throughout Darien Lakes State Park offer excellent dog walking opportunities with access to swimming areas where pets can cool off during warmer weather. Several campgrounds maintain pet waste stations throughout their grounds to promote cleanliness. During weekend stays, campers should be aware that fireworks displays from nearby attractions may disturb noise-sensitive pets, particularly at campgrounds adjacent to Six Flags Darien Lake.

    Letchworth State Park Campground

    Letchworth State Park, NY

Letchworth State Park is known as the Grand Canyon of the East and is located in Mt. Morris New York. My husband and I visited regularly when we lived near Rochester, NY. The park is stunning and is fit for camping whether you’re in a tent, RV or choosing to rent a gorgeous cabin. There are many walking and hiking trails for adventurers of all types. Make sure you bring your camera as the views are all photo worthy. The camping price is right due to the fact that the park is run by the state. A great place to stay especially in the Summer!!

    Letchworth State Park Campground

    30+ years of great memories!

We have camped at Letchworth State Park for nearly 30 years. Recent updates to playground equipment and restroom/shower facilities have brought the amenities into the 21st century. The price is reasonable, and the park is a gem. A couple cons to consider: pets only allowed in three loops. Quite often, pet loop reservations are maxed quickly. There is a two dog limit, which excludes many campers. If you are used to private campgrounds, realize that services are limited here. Mediocre camp store and laundry; both get the job done, but leave a lot to be desired.

    Shamrock Pines Campground

    Clean and friendly

Called up on Friday afternoon of Labor Day weekend and they accommodated us for two nights.  John and his staff were friendly and welcoming.  Very clean campground with mostly seasonal sites.  Several overnight sites with electric and water.  These sites were mostly gravel and cut into a bank so that there is some separation.  Surrounded by trees but grounds are well kept.  Fully fenced dog park that was great for our pup.  A couple of ponds for kids to fish and what looks like a nice pool.  Quiet hours observed.  On Saturday night there was a band in an outdoor stage that was great.

Close enough to Ellicottville to enjoy the shops, brewery and restaurants there.

Only thing I would mention is the dump station is simply just a pipe off one of the driveways with a water hose.  Not a problem and it works, just not typical of dump stations.

    Letchworth State Park Campground

    Good weekend campsite

Not technically in the Finger Lakes but still one of the most beautiful parts of Western New York State. Splurge and eat at the Glen Iris Inn! Great for cycling and hiking but no swimming. I love taking visitors here in all seasons but in autumn it is exceptional. I’ve stayed in a few tent sites and all are wooded and pretty private with your standard basic amenities. This is a popular park so make reservations.

The Grand Canyon of the East!

I went to college right near Letchworth State Park so I spent many wonderful weekends there! There is a reason why they call it the Grand Canyon of the East. Not only can you check out the beautiful waterfalls, but there are also many awesome trails, rivers, and caves to check out. When I would camp, we would rent a camp site with our tent but, you could camp with your RV or even rent a cabin. Ive gone every month of the year, but these pictures were from my birthday in January. Letchworth is one of the best parks in New York state and a definite must see!

    Letchworth State Park Campground

    Letchworth State Park

My son and I have a new favorite campground.  We absolutely fell in love with this park.  I find it odd that even though I grew up only an hour away, we never camped there.  Big mistake!  There are many trails to hike on and beautiful views of the gorge and river.  You have to drive to many of the places but it's worth it.  There are many souvenir and snack stands as well as a pool (again, you have to drive to them).  The camp store is small but well stocked with a laundry attached. Some loops allow pets and others don't.  If you want to bring your pet, please check to make sure you reserve a pet-friendly loop. Unfortunately for us, it rained the entire time we were there so we never got to walk the trails or use the pool.  Keep an eye out for other activities.  There are balloon rides, craft shows, etc. that happen throughout the summer. With so much to do in the park, you don't really need to leave but nearby is the Arcade and Attica Railroad.  It's a nice little ride through the countryside.  There is also a small dam that you can visit (we missed out this last time).  I highly recommend visiting.

What campers like

Convenient Niagara Falls access: Camping options provide affordable bases for exploring the region. Dawn T. shares about Four Mile Creek State Park Campground, "We stayed at this campground when we went to Niagara falls. It's a small campground but has clean bath houses an a relaxing atmosphere. Not much to do but fish or walk trails but that's how we like it. Nice park to go to after a long day at the falls."

Lakefront sunsets: Campers gather each evening to view spectacular sunsets over Lake Ontario. "The sunset views over the lake each evening were spectacular. Our site actually had a gravel driveway and pad, as did several others, but I noticed that the majority of sites were grass only," describes one visitor to Four Mile Creek State Park.

What you should know

Concert proximity considerations: Campgrounds near Darien Lake Theme Park experience concert noise. "We stayed here in June for a concert. While the park wasn't open, the campground was filled with people staying there for the concert, which made it a really pleasant experience," explains CJ K. about Darien Lake Campground.

Transportation options: Getting back to campgrounds after concerts requires planning. "It's VERY convenient to get to the concert as the campground offers shuttles before the events. However, getting back across the road to the campground can be challenging. Due to some dummy a few years ago getting hit by a car, and also Darien Lake's greed, walking back to the campground is disallowed," warns Cory W. about Cherry Hill Campground.

Wildlife management: Insect control varies by location and season. MacKenzi G. reports about Sleepy Hollow, "We had a lot of fun here and there's a lot of activities for kids I would typically give this campsite 5 stars but our only problem was there were bees everywhere. I get some bees are apart of the camping experience and nature but we've never ran into this problem elsewhere."

Theme park packages: Save on Six Flags Darien Lake by booking combined camping and park admission. "The campground itself is pretty and well kept.
