Best RV Parks & Resorts near Denville, NJ

Several RV parks within 30 miles of Denville, New Jersey provide convenient options for motorhome travelers. Mahlon Dickerson Reservation in Jefferson offers spacious, well-spaced RV sites with 50-amp electric service and water hookups, though it's not suitable for larger rigs. "The sites are nicely wooded, very well spaced, fairly level with 50A service and water hookup," notes one camper. Pleasant Acres Farm RV Resort in Sussex accommodates big rigs with full hookup sites including 50-amp service, operating seasonally from April through October. Mountain Top RV Park features newly upgraded infrastructure with 50-amp electrical service, modern sewer systems, and updated water lines, making it particularly suitable for larger motorhomes. Liberty Harbor RV Park in Jersey City provides 90 sites with electric and water hookups but no sewer connections, offering a rare urban camping option with proximity to New York City.

Cell service varies significantly throughout the region's RV campgrounds. AT&T coverage at Mahlon Dickerson typically shows 1-2 bars, while Panther Lake Camping Resort reports spotty service across all carriers with no internet at sites. Navigation to some parks requires careful planning, as several reviewers mention challenging access roads. One traveler noted that Colonial Woods has "very narrow roads, pretty sizable boulders on both sides, trees are very low and need to be trimmed," making it unsuitable for fifth wheels and larger motorhomes. Most RV parks in the area are pet-friendly, though specific pet areas vary by location. Dump stations are available at most parks, with Mahlon Dickerson and NWS Earle RV Park offering convenient on-site facilities. Seasonal availability is an important consideration, as many parks operate only from spring through fall, with NWS Earle open April 1 to November 15 and Timothy Lake South operating May 1 to October 31.

    Kymers Camping Resort

Fun, friendly & nestled in the woods

We stayed at Kymer's on a whim for a weekend, so we could be close to Mountain Creek for a Spartan Race. It truly exceeded our expectations in all aspects. This is a family friendly, camper-friendly place. Lots of seasonals- everyone waves, everyone stops to chat. This is what a campground should feel like. The sound of laughter and play sitting around the huge, clean pool was refreshing. Our site was Oak 10. It was level, good placement of electric water & sewer connects. Camp store has all the basics you might need. There is a brook that flows adjacent to the property. It's peaceful & magical. Pet friendly, although we didn't have our pup with us. We will be back again. I almost feel like I'm revealing a hidden gem with this post. 💎

    Colonial Woods Family Resort

    Not big rig friendly.

Ok so let me start off by saying. If we still had our smaller travel trailer this review would’ve been at least 4 stars. However this place is not the place for you if you have a fifth wheel. The roads are very narrow, pretty sizable boulders on both sides, trees are very low and need to be trimmed (almost took my ac out with a huge limb). Now if you’re not big rig camping like we do, this place is great for you. Close to the ringing rocks and three other towns. We were able to do so much even though it rained the entire weekend we were there.

    Mountain Vista Campground

    Mt Vista Campground

Beautiful Campground. Clean. Gravel sites. Fire ring and picnic table. All sites have ample room. Lots of pull through for bigger rigs. Wooded. Large dog park. Love the Campground except our site is near a fairly busy road which takes away from that beautiful tranquility. They have camouflaged it as best they could. Friendly staff. Lots to do. Pool, tennis. Sauna, pond for fishing ( catch & release ). Would definitely recommend.

The Pines Campground — Promised Land State Park

Quiet, just remote enough, a Great Lake, and nice camp hosts

I stayed for three nights in a pull through trailer site with 50 AMP and 30 AMP electric. Easy to get in and out of, nice and shady, big spaces so you were not on top of one another, and nice and quiet. Clean and modern bath house, water close by, and great camp hosts. Definitely recommend it.

    Mahlon Dickerson Reservation

    Nice, small, spacious campground

We stayed at site 15 for 5 days. The sites are nicely wooded, very well spaced, fairly level with 50A service and water hookup. Although the water spigots were shared between sites, they provide hose caddies that should reach most RV hookups. No sewer hookup, but there is a convenient dump station. There are no fire rings in the RV section, only raised grills. We had the place pretty much to ourselves during the week, but the weekend did get busy. AT&T had ok data connection with 1-2 bars most of the time. There is no satellite coverage due to the heavy tree canopy. OTA TV was very inconsistent using an external omni antenna. There is no WiFi. There is a very nice network of trails in the reservation, most if not all were leashed dog friendly. There is a very nice restaurant, Stone Water, less than 10 miles away and is right on lake Hopatcong.

Lower Lake Campground Northwoods Area — Promised Land State Park

    Northwoods Campground

Big sites with 30 amp service available for RVs and trailers. Each site has a large picnic table and a fire ring with an adjustable grate. The pull-through sites don’t offer much in the way of privacy, but that’s the trade off for convenience. There are two potable water spigots in the campground. The bathhouse offers warm showers, 2 dishwashing sinks, and a coin-operated washer and dryer. The facilities are kept very clean. On the weekends it can get pretty crowded, so it tends to be louder at night then, but the camp hosts and the rangers do a good job of enforcing quiet hours. Access points to several trails are very near the campground. As with all PA state parks, alcohol is prohibited. The park doesn’t have a camp store, however, there is a small general store on Route 390 (The Lake Store) just north of the park that would have any essentials you may have forgotten, as well as ice for your cooler.

    Panther Lake Camping Resort

    Stayed all summer

We stayed at Panther Lake as full timers all season. Great during the week but very busy on weekends. Could be noisy with children not very well supervised.
Friendly, helpful staff. Cable TV poor when it rains. Cell service spotty all carriers. No internet at sites. Lake beautiful and pool nice.

    Turkey Swamp Park

    Quiet Woodland Campground

Turkey Swamp Park is a great find! Heavily wooded and supremely quiet, it’s located not far from anywhere you’d want to be. 30 minutes to the shore. Every site is a pull-through, large and spacious with great woodland views. 30amp and water. Dump station.

The park has miles of shady forested trails for hiking and dog walking. there’s a large lake here too, for water based recreational activities.

The bathrooms, showers, and laundry are co-located in a centrally situated structure. Everything inside is clean and well-maintained.

We’ve got good cell signal with Verizon, AT&T, and Sprint. (We use all three.) Good OTA television signal also.

We spent three days here in July 2021.

    Jerry's Three River Campground

    Friendly and fun!

I have been camping at Jerry’s for over 10 years now. The owner is friendly and stops to chat often with us each time we go. The campground is VERY rustic with little to no amenities. There are tent sites, seasonal sites for RVs, group tent & RV sites and group/pavilion sites. There are little to no sites with electric/water hook ups however, there is a centrally located water spout to use. There are bathrooms/wash houses- they are cleaned once or twice a day but honestly, they get filthy. Jerry’s is a good place for a great time with friends; large groups usually visit Jerry’s year after year. No one bothers you and everyone respects the rules, most of the time. ☺️ We have taken our children there often but I wouldn’t recommend or call it family friendly. The location is beautiful and about 2 hours from NYC.

Guide to Denville

The Denville area sits at approximately 500 feet above sea level in New Jersey's highlands region, characterized by rolling hills and numerous lakes. Campgrounds near Denville feature predominantly wooded settings with variable terrain. Weather conditions can shift rapidly, particularly during spring and fall seasons when temperature variations of 30+ degrees within 24 hours aren't uncommon.

What to do

Hiking opportunities: Mahlon Dickerson Reservation in Jefferson offers extensive trail systems for day hikes. "My fiancé, dog, and I have been going here for over 2 years and we love it. The campground is small but also secluded. We always hike to the lake here, it's a very easy hike and also very peaceful," shares Paulene-Amanda M.

Urban exploration: Liberty Harbor RV Park provides a strategic base for New York City adventures. "There is a ferry 100-yards away that takes you to Wall Street M-F. There is a great market about 1/4 of a mile away, and the path that can take you to WTC or 33rd Street area is only a mile away," notes Shawn B.

Fishing access: Multiple waters within 30 minutes of Denville offer recreational fishing. "The gem is the beautiful grounds, river, and parklike setting. Lots of wildlife around," comments Jeff & Steff's Excellent Adventure about Tri-State RV Park.

What campers like

Spacious, wooded sites: Mahlon Dickerson Reservation features well-separated camping areas. "The sites are paved and mostly level. They are wooded and large. Water and electric hookups and a dump station," reports Jeff W.

Convenient city access: Urban camping options prioritize transportation connections. "Close to ferry for downtown and Statue of Liberty. People are very nice and accommodating. More of a stopping place to see the sites," writes Missy S. about Liberty Harbor.

Family-friendly facilities: Campgrounds offer various recreational amenities. "There is a small playground, a mini golf, and a large dog walk. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable of the area," shares Bill B. about Pleasant Acres Farm RV Resort.

What you should know

Site limitations: Not all campgrounds accommodate larger RVs. "Located in the Skylands of New Jersey, Mahlon Dickerson Campgound is a perfect place to spend a few nights or a couple of weeks. The campsites are paved and mostly level," notes Jeff W.

Cell service variations: Communication options differ significantly by location. "Cell service is awful for AT&T and our T-Mobile gateway. Had to move to a new site to get away from the trees to get starlink connectivity," warns Nick E. at Thousand Trails Timothy Lake South.

Seasonal operations: Many facilities close during winter months. "Check-in was quick and easy in spite of Covid precautions. This is a first-come, first-serve park in the Thousand Trails system so we had to drive around looking for a spot," explains Jim G.

Tips for camping with families

Animal encounters: Farms with livestock add entertainment value. "The farm has goats, a donkey, and a pony within the campground. Very cool. Weekend was busy as usual but during the week it seems to be seasonal that stay," shares Faith D. about Pleasant Acres Farm.

Playground access: Several campgrounds offer recreational facilities. "My kids explored the playground and found it sufficient," mentions Ashley O. regarding Timothy Lake South.

Nature programs: Mountain Top RV Park offers outdoor recreational activities. "They have a small playground that would be better suited for older children, and there's also a nice lounge room with games, a pool table, a tv and puzzles/board games," reports @HomegrownRV.

Tips from RVers

Water connections: Prepare for varying hookup configurations. "Website lists water hook ups at long distances but they have hose reels to help with that. Our site (15) said 75' however the 50' hose reel made it to our rv connection," advises antruze about Mahlon Dickerson.

Navigation challenges: Some parks require careful approach planning. "Getting in and out of the city is an adventure. Stay right off the highway to avoid the $30 tunnel toll. Follow RV life pro and not Waze," cautions Joe R. regarding Liberty Harbor.

Site selection strategy: For premium spots, arrive with a plan. "We came on a holiday weekend and thought it would be rowdy and loud. So far, nice and quiet," notes Angie G. about Timothy Lake South.
