What to do

Creek exploration: Three Creeks Conservation Area features multiple water features for wading. "Following the trails down, there are plenty of access points to creeks to purify water! Pretty views along the trails as well," reports Ruby W., who found the area both accessible and scenic.
Wildlife observation: Franklin Island provides secluded wildlife viewing opportunities despite potential seasonal challenges. "Great quite and secluded camp sigh. But can muddy due to sessional flooding," explains Benjamin R.
What campers like
Convenient interstate access: Robert's Bluff serves travelers needing quick overnight stops. "Great spot on my road trip west! Put in some miles and didn't get in until about 2am and this was easy to find and great spots away from the highway but also didn't have to trek far away," shares Daniel C.
Level parking areas: The terrain at Robert's Bluff accommodates larger vehicles. "Great location! Parked 30ft travel trailer with no problems! Level ground for the most part!" reports Melody D., who appreciated the practical setup.
Natural immersion: Three Creeks Conservation Area offers genuine wilderness camping. "My sister and I were on a road trip to Utah and our friend recommended this cute little spot! The trail is a little over grown - but the primitive campsites are nice and clean," notes Lucille W.
What you should know
Signage challenges: Finding designated camping areas can be difficult. "There was no signage and Google and Apple Maps couldn't get us there. When we found the trailhead there was no designated camping spot on the maps," reports Hailey W. about Three Creeks.
Road conditions: Access roads may require appropriate vehicles. "Nice spot to camp for the night if you're driving through Missouri. Not a terrible amount of mosquitos and the roads don't get bad after an average rain," mentions Truly W. about conditions at Robert's Bluff.
Cellular connectivity: Reception varies by location and carrier. "Verizon signal works good," reports Daniela E. about Robert's Bluff, making it suitable for those needing to stay connected.
Tips for camping with families
Safety considerations: Open areas provide security for families. "We as two young women felt extremely safe. Following the trails down, there are plenty of access points to creeks to purify water!" Ruby W. notes about her Three Creeks experience.
Site selection strategy: Look for previously used areas to simplify setup. "Had to scope out the area to find a suitable spot to set up camp. Found a spot previously used, but you might prefer finding a spot and starting from the ground up," advises Ron R.
Noise awareness: Aircraft noise may affect light sleepers. "Only draw back is the Columbia Regional Airport is about 4-5 miles from this location. There is air traffic overhead. Columbia airport is rather small so other than rotary wing aircraft (helicopters) from the hospital, it's not to bad," explains Ron R. about Three Creeks.
Tips from RVers
Arrival timing: Plan setup during daylight hours when possible. "Decided to take my time heading from Southern WA to Southern IN and this is the best dispersed camping I've seen on this trip. I'll definitely stop here again if I'm ever heading down I-70, and hopefully I'll have my RV with me," shares Richard M. about Robert's Bluff.
Generator etiquette: Generator use is common but respectful noise management is expected. "Used a generator..... So did everyone else. Still quiet enough. There was plenty of space," notes Melody D. about her experience at Robert's Bluff.
Location verification: Confirm exact location details before arrival. "Don't mistake this for the RV hookup site at Roberts Bluff. It's a bit further down the road and called Roberts Bluff Access. You will eventually see signs for a Conservation site," advises Christian D.
