    Cottonwoods RV Park & Campground

    Very Nice Campground

Check-in was quick and easy and we proceeded to pull through site 83 with FHUs. The gravel pad was very long and we had plenty of room for our 40’ rig and F450. The utilities were in the middle of the pad and water pressure was decent at about 40 psi. As we were on the end of a row, we had a lot of front yard space. The sites here are very close together, but long-term guests kept their sites nice and well organized, and overall this CG was very clean. There are mature trees so satellite placement could be challenging. We were able to place our Starlink in the yard area for a good shot to the north sky. We got 4 bars on Verizon and their WiFi worked well for a campground of this size. At the office, they have a nice store and gift shop with one of the best selections of camping shirts etc. that we have seen.

Arrow Rock State Historic Site Campground — Arrow Rock State Historic Site

    Nice campsite during off season

Stayed two nights in early March in our RV. I knew the bathrooms would be locked and that the water would be off so had full fresh tank and jerry cans. There's a dump station on site so I didn't have to go home full too. Electric at the site was appreciated so we can run the furnace fan and water heater off it. I was not expecting to see no trashcans so I had to pack out. However, there were recycling bins.

I didn't see anyone selling firewood along the way so I scavenged for wood near the site. Not a big deal to find wood but it was wet and challenging to keep from smoking me out.

There were only a couple other campers and they were nice not to camp next to us. Felt like we were the only ones there. The best part of camping off season.

Walked the trail down to the river and appreciated the crushed rock trail. I didn't visit the nearby town, but will next time I visit.

The only negative was not being able to reserve and pay ahead of arrival, which means I have to bring exact cash. Who carries cash anymore?!

Site 37 is a premium site with 50 amp service for an additional cost. I didn't have enough cash to pay the premium site price and had already setup camp before realizing it. My RV has a 30 amp service and it was off season so I didn't feel too bad about paying the standard electric price.

The Great Escape RV and Camp Resort

    Ok, not great

Stopped here for an overnight on our way home to Georgia from Yellowstone. It’s ok for a 1-night stop. I wouldn’t stay more. The sites are level, with long pull-throughs, with full hookups. But there is no shade. Also no store. There is a grill/bar that serves dinner, drinks and appetizers. Pool, playground, dog park, stocked fishing pond, laundry. Bathroom/shower facilities were ok. Several text sites did have shade.

Arrow Rock State Historic Site Campground — Arrow Rock State Historic Site

    Lovely and peaceful campground

We stayed on site 13 for one night in October 2020. It’s about 15-20 minutes from I70. Electric and water hookups, clean showers, very nice campground host. You’re supposed to reserve>24 hours in advance but we pulled up around 8 pm and got a site. Good spacing between sites, pretty level parking spot, picnic table, fire pit, etc. Huge and empty picnic area- beautifully maintained. Lovely spot. Wish we had more time to explore it. We would return here again.

    Knob Noster State Park Campground

    Nice & Shady

Nice & Shady State Park; 30 amp only, no water or sewer at sites. Water readily available throughout the park, dump station near exit. Dumpsters are not near the the dump station. Cost: $21/night for electric site. All gravel, except handicapped sites which are nicely paved and level. Very quiet park, hiking & biking available, kayaking at park lake (very mossy), lots and lots of stupid raccoons at night.

    Knob Noster State Park Campground

    Quiet, clean and family friendly

Knob Noster State Park is close to Whiteman AFB and towns nearby for amenities. The park is clean and quiet. Weekends often mean a nearly full campground so make sure to reserve ahead! Weekdays there are few campers. The park is well shaded and it includes primitive and electric sites with water pumps within easy access to all sites. There are two sets of campground bathrooms—one is near the front and is brand new (2018); the other bathrooms are half way to the back of the campground. A dump station is at the front of the campground with a pull through drive. Ice, small grocery items and items are all available for purchase from the camp host. You can also rent kayaks either hourly or by the half or full day. There are lots of great trails for hiking, weekend park programs at the campground amphitheater, a playground and basketball courts. There is no WiFi in this park yet but I hear it’s coming soon. This is a great little park!!

    Cottonwoods RV Park & Campground

    Very nice RV Park

The only negative thing I would say is the spaces were very close to each other. Our slide nearly went over the patio of the next site over. But it was our family staying in that lot so it was ok. The office is very nice with very friendly staff. They sell lots of camping stuff and other miscellaneous items. The pool was small but nice. We had a lot of rain while we were there but the water drained pretty well. Our pull-through site was nice and level. Only had to level front to back. We’re going back this fall to stay during Mizzou football games.

What to do

Fishing at Arrow Rock State Historic Site: This state park campground offers fishing at Big Soldier Lake plus access to historic sites. "There is a small fishing lake in the camp ground. We lived it so much, we went and bought a couple of bicycles to putter around the area. Clean and quiet," reports Dina L. about Arrow Rock State Historic Site Campground.

Historic exploration: Arrow Rock town features preserved 19th-century buildings within walking distance of the campground. "The main appeal is the nearby town of Arrow Rock with its many historic buildings and an excellent interpretation center. Great for a pleasant cycle in the evening or a stroll after a bottle of wine," notes Marimba N.

Stargazing opportunities: The rural location provides minimal light pollution for astronomy enthusiasts. Camper Christy calls Arrow Rock "beautiful stargazing views" and mentions "fantastic place and beautiful sunsets."

What campers like

Quiet atmosphere: Many campgrounds in the area provide a peaceful environment away from urban noise. At Cedar Creek Resort & RV Park, one camper noted: "Peaceful campsites. They have added the sites in 300's and 500's this year. The 100's and 200's have been established for 3 years or so."

Convenience to Interstate 70: Several RV parks near Nelson provide easy access for overnight travelers. According to Jim M. at Cottonwoods RV Park & Campground, it's "conveniently located to I-70, Sam's club, HyVee Walmart Bass Pro and lots of restaurants. All with in 5 miles."

Educational opportunities: Great Escape RV Park & Campground offers fishing in their pond without requiring a fishing license, making it ideal for teaching children. "There is a pond for fishing (no license required) and a swimming pool," reports a camper.

Road conditions: Some access roads may be unpaved or poorly maintained. Amy E. mentioned about Cedar Creek Resort: "The only thing I didn't love was the gravel road all the way in. Our truck and camper was covered with gravel dust. So if you had anything exposed, it'll get a bit dusty."
