Great Escape RV Park & Campground

    Nice for overnight

Just stopped for one night on our way east. Friendly host checked us in. Nice dog park with bench and shade. All sites are FHU. They offered to move us to a pull thru, but I picked our site based on proximity to the dog park, so I declined the move. We were in site 38, back-in 30 amp. Sites are a bit tight but no one next door so ok. I recommend for a stopover. Less fancy but nicer for dogs imo than Owl Creek which is one exit away. There is a pond for fishing (no license required) and a swimming pool.

    Kansas City East-Oak Grove KOA

    Great overnight

Easy access to Interstate and pull through sites were long enough for our truck and 32’ trailer without having to unhitch. Stayed just one night as we passed through. Looked like it would be a good place to stay for multiple nights.

Clean campground. Nice grounds. Two good fenced dog parks.

Only negatives were our hookups were literally in the next site next to their table, and their fire ring was very close to our trailer.

    Kansas City East-Oak Grove KOA

    Ok for a stopover

Stayed one night at the KOA in Oak Grove, just east of Kansas City. The sites were all sunny and since it was 100 degrees, it was hot. But the pool was nice and they had a nice dog park which was ok in the evening after it cooled off. Close to KC so we could drive in for BBQ.

    Great Spot

This campground has immaculate ground. All sites are pretty much gravel, but 'new' gravel & level. Pool very clean. Laundry 24/7 CLEAN!! SHOWERS EVEN CLEANER!! They have a Dutch Mkt here as well in front at ck-in that's awesome!! Everything you could imagine. 100 different cheeses even! I'd stay here again for sure. Dog Park; Trash P/U too!

Owl Creek Market and RV Park

    Nice for overnight

Stayed one night while traveling back to the east coast. It is a decent campground. The bath house was clean and showers were hot. Sites are close together. Mine had shade. There is a small dog park at the top of the hill.

I came late and left early, so didn't get to browse the cheese shop, but it looked nice. I would stay here again.

The Great Escape RV and Camp Resort

    Ok, not great

Stopped here for an overnight on our way home to Georgia from Yellowstone. It’s ok for a 1-night stop. I wouldn’t stay more. The sites are level, with long pull-throughs, with full hookups. But there is no shade. Also no store. There is a grill/bar that serves dinner, drinks and appetizers. Pool, playground, dog park, stocked fishing pond, laundry. Bathroom/shower facilities were ok. Several text sites did have shade.

    Turkey Creek RV Park

    Nice Campground! Nice and Quiet!

Turkey Creek was a very nice campground for our month long stay.  The park is well maintained and clean.  It is very quiet!  There is a train track nearby, but we only heard it a few times during our stay.

Amenities included full hook up, laundry room, bathrooms, showers and a fenced dog park where you 4 legged friends can enjoy some off-leash time.  We had 4 bars with AT&T and waffled between 1-3 bars with Verizon.

The location is great for visiting local attractions such as Branson Landing, Silver Dollar City and Top of the Rock.

Really appreciate the park manager, she was friendly and brought an overpayment to our attention and quickly issued a refund.

    Great experience overall!

Owl Creek Market and RV Park

    Nice campground

Nice campground, we stayed in spot 11. It was closest to the highway, so that might bother people but we barely noticed the cars this weekend. The dog park, kid park, and dumpster are next door, so if you are social you will meet plenty of people in this spot. There is a pool, bathrooms, laundry, and a cute little country store here. It appears they are expanding or at least have recently added camping spots, so that's good, but there are plenty We arrived late at night, 9 pm on a Friday, and there was still room for us without a reservation. There was plenty of room to back in the rig, they also have pull through spots if needed. I'd camp here again for sure.

    Kimmys At Caplinger

    Best Family Campground in Missouri

Kimmy’s is amazing!  Always friendly and clean. Lots of activities for any outdoor adventures. Hiking kayaking swimming and lots of laughs come with Kimmy’s crew. They go out of their way to make your stay wonderful! If the pond on site is not big enough Stockton Lake is just minutes away or maybe you enjoy kayaking the Sac River is very close as well. Shuttle service is right up the road if needed. Keep your eyes peeled you may just find a message rock or two. We frequent Kimmy’s several times each summer and by far our absolute favorite campground in Missouri. And they are pet friendly too!

Guide to Clinton

Camping around Clinton, Missouri centers on Truman Lake, which spans over 55,000 acres with 950 miles of shoreline at normal elevation of 706 feet. The region experiences hot summers with temperatures averaging 85-90°F from June through August, making water activities popular but requiring adequate sun protection for campers. Winter camping is available at several locations with temperatures typically ranging from 20-40°F.

What to do

Fishing spots: The fishing at Truman Lake draws many campers, with both lake access and marina services. "Truly a beautiful campground with marina/store on site," notes one visitor who enjoyed the water access from multiple wide open spots.

Biking trails: Paved roads at Long Shoal Park provide excellent cycling opportunities along the water's edge. Reviewers mention "a nice bike ride from the campgrounds" with "paved road the entire ride lined with dense forest trees" that offers welcome shade during hot days.

Kayaking: Several campgrounds offer direct lake access for paddlers. One camper noted, "The park is beautiful and very clean! We were at B loop site 17 but would be better if water hookup was also at each site although public facet was close." Water conditions vary seasonally, with some campers noting the water can be muddy at times.

What campers like

Shaded sites: Campers frequently mention the tree cover at Sparrowfoot as a key benefit. "Nice shady spots with water and electric," writes one reviewer. Another notes, "Loop B is much quieter with fewer guests. Loop A is a little more busy."

Lake views: Many campsites offer direct lake visibility. "We are at A21 which is fine, but very close to the next site. However, A19 has a better lakeview," shared one visitor. Site selection matters for the best views, with some locations offering more privacy than others.

Clean facilities: Bathroom cleanliness gets consistent positive mentions. "The shower house is clean and big! The toilets are clean and get cleaned often," writes one camper about Buck Ridge Campground. Another mentioned, "Clean bathrooms and showers. Dump station and fresh water fill station at camp ground entrance."

What you should know

Cell reception: Connectivity varies significantly between campgrounds. One visitor notes, "In the A and B loops, very minimal cell service and very little opportunity to stream on the TVs." Another reported, "I had excellent T-Mobile 5G service" at their location.

Wildlife encounters: Montrose Missouri Conservation Area has abundant wildlife that campers frequently mention. "There is loads of wildlife to see and aren't much scared of humans, raccoons, beavers, crane, squirrels, deer, owls and much more," reported one camper. Others specifically mentioned friendly local cats that sometimes visit campsites.

Weather conditions: The region can experience significant seasonal flooding. One camper reported, "Had trouble getting here from the south because of extensive flooding from the April storms." Summer heat requires planning for shade and hydration.

Tips for camping with families

Playground access: Some campgrounds offer dedicated play areas for children. A reviewer mentioned one loop "also has the playground which is right behind site B47. It's a newer playground and all equipment was nicely maintained. There are no swings."

Swimming options: Multiple beaches are available for family swimming. "There is a 'Cozy Corner' RV Park just outside the entrance to supposedly get supplies; although sign said OPEN no one was there," noted one camper who instead enjoyed swimming at the nearby beach areas.

Biking for kids: Knob Noster State Park offers safe cycling options for children. "Knob Noster State Park is a great park for the grandkids to ride their new bikes on the level smooth campground road in safety," explained one grandparent who visited with family.

Another noted, "We checked the showers and toilets, they were clean and had just been hosed down."

Hookup variations: Electric and water access differs between campgrounds and loops. One visitor mentioned, "Sites were spacious with 50 Amp hook ups. Some sites had been recently redone, new grass, rock pads and electric pedestals."
