    Ham Lake Resort

Well Rounded RV Park and Campground

My partner and I scheduled a 3 day / 2 night stay in a new Vintage Cruiser RV for $39.99, in exchange for attending a presentation on private membership.

We checked in Wednesday evening, and the nicest staff I've ever met helped us acclimate to RV living. We are new to this game. They patiently described how to utilize the grey and black water tanks, as well as encouraged us to check-out the canoes, row boats, bikes, horseshoes, ladder golf and many other entertainment items - for FREE!

The map provided was accurate which made locating the cruiser a breeze. There were further instructions inside as well. The RV was immaculate. Provided for our use were all linens (a public very clean bath and shower was just across the road), dish soap, dish towels, paper towels, flat wear, plates, bowls, mugs and pans.

The campground has a couple of ponds, as well as access to Ham Lake where the watercraft is launched. There is a petting arena with goats, ponies, and a llama who gave my partner the stink eye, but fell in love with me rubbing the fence and giving me all googly eyes!

The clubhouse sells bundled wood, ice, snacks, cold drinks, ice cream and provides 24-hour fresh coffee. There is also a small resupply area, and gift shop.

There are pull-through sites, back ups, 50 and 30 amp hook ups, and tent sites, covered pavilions, picnic tables and fire pits.

The campground itself seems remote, secluded and peaceful, however, you are conveniently located to two well-stocked convenience stores, as well as Wal-Mart about 15 minutes away. It's also only about 45 minutes from the Minnesota Twin Cities.

One note: We visited in August and needed gallons of bug spray.

We very much enjoyed our get away!

    Ann Lake

    Rustic & Family Friendly

This is a great little rustic campground within an hour's drive of the Twin Cities! It has several potable water sources throughout the campground, but no running water for toilets or showers. There are several vault toilets. Each campsite has a picnic table and a fire ring. You can buy firewood & ice at the Sand Dunes Stop gas station, just a 10 minutes drive away.

This is a first-come, first-served campground, so no reservations required. This does mean that there is a chance you won't be able to get a site, but I've only had that happen one time when I got there at 6pm on a Saturday. There are usually sites available.

I love going to this campground - it's family friendly, and there is a swimming beach a quick 3 minute drive away! The hiking trails aren't half bad, either! I love coming here to relax for a weekend, spend some time at the beach, and just enjoy nature. If you go in the early to mid summer, you'll also hear local whip-poor-wills serenade you to sleep.

Overall, 4 stars. The only downsides are no running water and no ice & firewood at the campground itself.

    Grand Casino RV Resort

Park’s designers hav never been in an RV

The designers of this park have clearly never spent a night in an RV. This place pushes all of my buttons for things not to do when building an RV park.

Virtually every site in the park is a blind back in from the driver seat. You’re trying to back your trailer into a site on the right side without being able to see anything over there. Additionally, the site number pedestals for each site are right against the corner of the driveway where you have to back around them without being able to see them. Number pedestals for all sites are also right against the road, limiting the amount that you can swing your tow vehicle to the opposite side of the road to back into the site.  I will guarantee that not one person on the design team has ever backed, a travel trailer or fifth wheel into an RV site. The owners should have checked the credentials of the designers they hired. If they did, they were lied to. If they didn’t, then they just didn’t care about their customers.

Finally, one of my all-time favorites, all of the sewer connections are cut off about 12 inches above the ground. This means that even in a relatively tall fifth wheel, you are going to be trying to make shit filled water flow uphill. These things need to be cut off just an inch or two above the ground level  so that your sewage can flow downhill.

If you were here to spend an evening gambling at the casino, the place is roomy and well maintained. If you just want to spend the night, and not spend half of it trying to get into your site and set up, there’s got to be someplace close that would be better to go. We won’t be back.

    Lebanon Hills Regional Park

    Friendly staff & quiet

Great location for easy access to mountain bike trails. Friendly staff. Clean facilities. Nice trail within the campground. Some sites are more shaded than others in the east loop so look at photos if you want shade. Sites that back up to the green space are very sunny. 87 is a great site! Plenty of space for a trailer or tent with a private “nook” for the fire pit.

    Lake Elmo County Park Reserve

    Great for the kiddos

For a County Park, Lake Elmo has an impressive list of amenities. Before we even get to the campsite let's mention the filtered swimming pond. This man made pond is a sandy bottom and surrounded by a nice sand beach. Large built in umbrellas are available for sun coverage and there is a concession stand and bathrooms with showers. And yes, as I mentioned the water is filtered! No gross goose poop or green algae to deal with! Next to the swim pond is a giant playground with fun for the big and little kids. Other amenities include archery, horse trails, paved and grass trails, camper spots, rustic spots and hike in camping spots. In winter the xc ski trails are lit for evening skiing. Or let's be honest early afternoon. It is Minnesota and the suns down by 4 In the Winter! They also have a newer Nordic center that's open all year round and includes a locker room with showers. The hike in camp spot we chose was on a small lake so it had a nice breeze and made it easy to bring a kayak or paddleboard and hop right in. There is also a boat launch for your larger toys! The trails in the park are quite impressive for its size. We enjoyed a 5 mile loop off the Nordic center and right past the camp spot. A picnic table and fire pit as well as nice flat tent pad were provided. If you're coming in from out of town then you're just a 5 minute drive from Woodbury and all the amenities you'd ever need but the park feels miles away from it all.

    Pathfinder Village-St Croix

    Tall Tall Trees

Lots of tall evergreen trees (not sure of the specific species) here that you are nestled in. Have to know a seasonal site holder to camp here. Sites can be a little tricky backing into because of the trees, but ultimately they have enough space even for large rigs(there were three of us there: 2 5th wheels and one longer travel trailer). A picnic table and fire ring was provided at each site. Nice easy road to navigate getting into the campground. Close to Hinckley if you're looking for things to do!

    Dakotah Meadows RV Park

    Nice modern campground

Many pull through sites available - most of which you pull through to face another site - great if you are camping with friends and want to share the area. Full hook up sites at a reasonable rate. Secure shower/bathhouses and a large play park for kids. There is an RV wash station and fuel pumps on-site. Shuttle bus comes through the camp if you want to go to the casino and play- it’s also within walking distance.

Guide to Wyoming

RV sites near Wyoming, Minnesota offer varying stay durations from overnight to seasonal leases. The region sits within the St. Croix River Valley at approximately 900 feet above sea level with warm summers and cold winters. Most campgrounds in the area maintain operating seasons from May through October, though winter camping options exist at select locations.

What to do

River activities: canoeing and tubing: At Country Camping Tent & RV Park on the Rum River, visitors can enjoy water recreation on the Rum River. "Great tubing and canoeing," notes Rory T., while David G. adds, "The tubing is a plus... Key thing is the river is very clean and sandy bottom."

Kayak trips for all ages: Wildwood RV Park & Campground offers water excursions suitable for families. "The kayaking/canoeing was an amazing adventure that everyone should try. It was even great for kids 3 and 6," reports dominick C. The campground provides shuttle service for water activities.

Wildlife viewing opportunities: Several campgrounds in the area provide access to wildlife observation. The paddlewheel boat ride from Wildwood Campground offers wildlife encounters as Amy F. notes, "We even saw bald eagles on the ride."

Visit nearby attractions: When camping in the area, explore local points of interest. "Be sure to check out Franconia sculpture garden if you're staying here and have the time! It's such a fun and quirky place," recommends Tori K.

What campers like

Spacious sites: Country Camping RV Park offers generously sized camping spaces. "Large sites," states Rory T. simply. Spencer C. elaborates, "HUGE sites! You can either relax in the pool or even take a ride down the rum river in a rented canoe, tube, or kayak."

Pool and splash pad amenities: Water features are popular during summer months. "This campground is nice and clean. Good size spaces. The tubing is a plus... Pool was small but nice. Splash pad was even nice for adults," notes David G. from Country Camping.

Wooded tent sites: Campers seeking more rustic experiences appreciate the tent-specific areas. "We tent camped for two nights in site CC, which had a small quiet creek beside it. These primitive sites are down a small dirt road away from the main RV camping area and are nicely wooded," describes Stacy S. from Wildwood RV Park.

Clean facilities: Grand Casino RV Resort maintains well-kept amenities. "The bathhouse offered private toilet stalls and showers, and we squeaky clean!!!" reports TyAnn J. Lisa D. adds, "The pool had a perfect temperature and nice lounging area."

What you should know

Variable internet connectivity: Cell service and wifi reliability differ across campgrounds. "Sadly I needed 4 hours of internet and my cellular data here was spotty. I spent this time right outside the office," notes Jaime N. about Wildwood Campground, adding "Wifi only works near office."

Reservation requirements: Many campgrounds require advance booking, especially during peak seasons. Waiting until arrival may result in no availability, particularly for weekend stays from June through September.

Ownership structures vary: Some RV parks operate differently than traditional campgrounds. Mississippi Riverwood RV Park has a unique setup as Dan O. explains: "This hidden gem is a PRIVATE RV Park where each lot is individually owned and most owners live South in the winter. Individual owners can rent their lot with restrictions."

Seasonal operation limitations: Most campgrounds close during winter months. At Country Camping RV Park, the season runs "May 1 - Oct 1" while Wildwood operates from "May 5 to October 8," according to their listings.

Tips for camping with families

Look for multiple recreation options: Ham Lake Resort offers diverse activities for children. "The campground has a couple of ponds, as well as access to Ham Lake where the watercraft is launched. There is a petting arena with goats, ponies, and a llama," shares kristin C.

Seek campgrounds with playground facilities: Country Camping receives praise for its family amenities. "I stayed here 3 weeks ago with my wife and 2 young children and it was fantastic great playground and heated pool the spaces were well kept and spaced apart 10-10 would most defiantly go again! A ton for the kids to do!" writes Beasty B.

Consider noise levels: Some campgrounds enforce quiet hours better than others. "I give it a 4 star only because twice I ran into the same group of people that thought it was ok to open up their vehicle doors and blast music well into the night. Owner warned them the first time but quiet time isn't until 11 pm," notes Barbara B. about Country Camping.

Tips from RVers

Back-in site challenges: Grand Casino RV Resort presents specific parking difficulties. "Virtually every site in the park is a blind back in from the driver seat. You're trying to back your trailer into a site on the right side without being able to see anything over there," warns Adrian G., who adds, "We won't be back."

Full hookup availability: Most RV sites near Wyoming, Minnesota offer complete utility connections. Spencer C. clarifies about Country Camping: "This place does have 30amp and 50amp hook ups and has pull through spots and sewer sites so that needs to change on this app. Max trailer length that I've seen here is 70'. Anyone can fit in here!"

Utility connections: At Grand Casino RV Resort, the sewer setup presents issues. "All of the sewer connections are cut off about 12 inches above the ground. This means that even in a relatively tall fifth wheel, you are going to be trying to make shit filled water flow uphill," explains Adrian G.

Weather considerations: Summer humidity impacts camping comfort and electrical systems. "Had one issue with power dropping so we had to pull the surge protector off then it was fine. Also very hot and humid so everyone was running AC to the max," reports David G. at Country Camping.
