The Rochester area features several established RV parks, with Autumn Woods RV Park providing full hookup sites including 50-amp electric, sewer, and water connections from February through October. Hidden Meadows RV Park in Pine Island offers spacious grassy sites with electric and water hookups, plus a centralized dump station. "This campground has everything they say: nice spots that are level (pull through and back in), right off Hwy 90, quiet, and friendly staff," noted one visitor about Autumn Woods. White Fox — Myre-Big Island State Park

    Nice state park

This is a rustic state park with limited amenities. There are no water or electric hook ups. However clean water is available in the park. The park does have flush toilets and showers. We found these to be in good condition and clean. The showers had warm water. The water stream is on a timer and so are the lights. The shower stalls are Individual stalls. The interior roads are dirt roads with a few potholes they are very narrow. The camping sites are nice sized and relatively private. There is a gravel pad on each site and some have a tent pad. Each site had a picnic table and a fire ring. There are plenty of walking and biking trails and there are walk-in tent camp sites. However, you cannot see the lake from the campground and there is no access to the lake from the campground. We were able to drive through the campground with our 40 foot fifth wheel. But just barely, be careful!

Minneiska Campground — Whitewater State Park

Small and quaint with plenty of space

This campground is small and quaint...plenty of space without being too close to your neighbors.  Super easy to social distance here.

We visited in winter (February) and while there was snow on the ground, the spaces were kept plowed with easy access to the electric boxes.  We were in a teardrop trailer.  Plenty of space for the car and the teardrop in space #202, but all spaces that were plowed had plenty of room to pull in.  Some were even "pull through" which would be extra nice if you wanted it (either big rig type RV or pull behind).

As with State Parks in MN, it's best to make the reservation online, especially with office staff being spotty these days. Price is $35 for the space/night with electric, and this time of year, there are no other options besides electric spaces. The bonus of making "day of" reservations means there is no extra service fee.  But waiting that "long" to make the reservation also means there are no refunds if you can't get there. You are far better off as a "no show" than "cancelling", since there is actually a cancellation fee on top of losing your nightly rate if you actually "cancel".

The campground has far more spaces than you can reserve this time of year (typical of "winter" camps at State Parks in MN). But the loop that had the openings was super easy.  Just literally a loop around one side of the camp with a vault toilet on one side that was super easy to get to from anywhere you were plugged in.  It was fairly clean (dirty floor understandable this time of year due to wet boots and slush).

I was surprised at the nature of the young trees.  Lots of them, but all very small.  That said, in the winter this is more obvious due to lack of leaves, but in summer, I suspect it's lovely. Still, there are plenty of them and with the huge spaces between sites, even without leaves it wasn't an issue. I don't think there are any trees big enough to hammock in.

The entrance to the campground is literally right inside the park.  Across from the visitor center, so you can't miss it. And although it was close to the road, very little road noise.  The only noises we were actually aware of were natural ones...some cows in the distance, lots of birds and at night, Barred Owls and a few coyotes.  All welcome noises for us!

This time of year, water is not on in the campground, but there is a spigot right across the road at the visitor center that is on (easy 2 min walk). They also have firewood for sale with an "honor" box, but the bundles the day were were there were $6 and the small bundle was basically small kindling. Not idea for a winter fire.

All spaces had a nice picnic table and fire ring. We had to "dig" to ours with a small snow shovel in the car, but it wasn't an issue.

**NOTE:  You do need a MN state park sticker or day pass to stay at the campground**

    Eagle Cliff Campground and Lodging

    River Camping

Overall great experience! Located on the Root River. Cliff View has very clean bath houses. Lots of sites to choose from. 50 amp service, sewer hook up and of course water. If your close enough to the office wifi available. Some sites are tight for large motor homes, 5th wheelers and tavel trailer. If your a bicyclist, campgrounds on great paved trail. They like their grass, no rugs or carpet on the grass. I take this as a positive. Dogs n cats are welcome. Lots of seasonal sites. Camping during the week is quite!

    Maple Springs Campground

    Eden

We stayed here for the month of august, and this place is awesome! Beautiful spaces of various size, a river runs next to it and they have duck races. Dog park, small general store, backs up to a national park, close to town, immaculately maintained, volley ball court, lots of shade trees, easy access, and Andy(owner/operator) is the nicest person you’ll ever want to meet. For those so inclined there’s church service on Sunday in an old (cool looking!) barn! Fire pits at every spot. There is WiFi there, but little to no phone service unless you have a cell booster. 5/5 will definitely be back!

    Tresure Island RV Park

    It’s a parking lot…

We are here for a show at the casino and thought it would be fun to bring the camper down and glamp for the weekend. It is just a parking lot but the sites are all pull through and there is plenty of room between sites and ours was perfectly level.

We have dogs so the fact that it’s all asphalt and rock is a bit of a bummer but we are close to the exercise area and they do love little walks. It also seems to be controlling some of the normal bad pet parent behavior we see at even parks. Like letting the dogs run with out leashes or tethering them all day to bark at everything.

The sites do not have fire rings but there are some community ones and it appears the other campers brought their own smokeless fire pits to use.

There is a shuttle to the casino and at 7pm folks seemed to clear out to head over. It was honestly one of the quietest campgrounds we’ve been to on a Friday night.

The bath house is newer and super clean- not a single creepy spider web in any corners.

On Verizon I have full bars so we haven’t tried the park WiFi but we’ve been able to use our chrome cast and two iPads off my cell phone with zero issues. Because it’s in a river valley the air tv single is terrible so we are glad to have the chrome cast with us- since the forecast called for a raining day.

    Nelson's Landing RV Park

    Clean & tidy RV campground

Easy pull-through and back-in sites. We easily backed in to our site. There was a large open grassy area behind us that our two dogs enjoyed. Brand new fire rings/pits. Beautiful view of the bluffs. Walking distance to several restaurants. Don't miss the Nelson Creamery. Housed in an old historic building, I was expecting just an average ice cream/Wisconsin cheese store, but it was really lovely inside and it reminded me of something in France. There is a formal dining room area, wine cellar, and casual outdoor seating on a patio under vine covered canopy. Soups, sandwiches, pizzas, beer and wine available.

We only stayed for 2 nights, but the best part was the bathroom/shower house! There were 3-4 private shower/toilet/sink rooms with full locking doors. Everything is brand new and pristinely clean: white subway tile, white walls, white fixtures. Great water pressure and temperature. It reminded me of a fancy athletic club like Lifetime Fitness!

There is also a laundry facility in the building (again, everything new and clean).

    Albert Lea-Austin KOA

    Peaceful

In the middle of corn and bean fields..very peaceful! Open camp sites some shaded and pull through. Big rig friendly. Pool was closed for repair on our visit but looked like nice sized pool. Staff was welcoming and grounds were clean.  Drive over to Austin and visit the Spam Museum...who knew?

    River View Campground

Our LGBT family wouldn't stay here again

First of all, the good - we appreciated the campground being able to accommodate our last-minute reservation. The bathrooms and showers were small but nice, and my kids liked the playground. Full hookups. They also have a camp store that seemed well-stocked, and an activity room for weekly Bingo, etc.

The bad - while the long term sites were pretty, level, and relatively private, our site was definitely none of those. Very unlevel gravel and mud and very close to our neighbors. We were excited for the laundry room but they had to shut it down because of a leak, and the clothes we did wash didn't seem to come out clean. Finally, our LGBTQ family didn't feel very comfortable because of the amount of conservative paraphernalia displayed by both the owners/staff and some of the other visitors.

Overall, our family wouldn't stay here again.

    Tresure Island RV Park

    No frills, well-maintained, and clean

This is a typical casino parking lot RV "park" with full hookups. It is basically a parking lot with mostly pull through sites. The last row consists of "deluxe" back-in sites with a few trees. That being said, it is well maintained, the sites are level, the park was clean, and the utilities were in good working order. It was quite and easy to get in and out of. The shower house was adequate as well. We would stay here again. We camped at Treasure Island RV Park in a Motorhome.

Guide to Rochester

RV parks near Rochester, Minnesota typically operate from April through October, with limited options for winter camping. The terrain features low rolling hills, with elevations ranging from 970 to 1,300 feet. Cell service remains consistently strong throughout the Rochester area campgrounds, with Verizon users reporting particularly reliable coverage in multiple locations.

What to do

Fishing opportunities: Whitewater State Park offers excellent fishing spots along its spring-fed river. "We had a great time playing on the river and exploring the park! Everything is right there and the river is so pretty!" notes one visitor. The park also provides trout fishing lessons during holiday weekends.

Biking on paved trails: Peterson City RV Park connects directly to the Root River bike trail. As one camper explains, "The campground is on the Root River bike trail which is beautiful, shaded, and paved." The trail system extends through multiple small towns, offering scenic river views.

Local attractions: The Spam Museum in Austin is worth visiting when staying at Crystal Springs RV Resort. "We thought the museum would be cheesy, but it was a nice facility and a great experience," reports one camper. The museum is approximately 30 minutes from Rochester and offers free admission.

What campers like

Clean, modern facilities: Multiple RV parks emphasize bathroom cleanliness. At Nelson's Landing RV Park, "The best part was the bathroom/shower house! There were 3-4 private shower/toilet/sink rooms with full locking doors. Everything is brand new and pristinely clean: white subway tile, white walls, white fixtures."

Proximity to Mayo Clinic: Hidden Meadows RV Park provides convenient access for medical appointments. "This is very convenient if you have Mayo Clinic appointments. The campground was nice with grassy sites along with electric and water hook ups, there was a dump station also," explains one visitor who valued this convenience.

Seasonal wildlife viewing: Campgrounds offer opportunities to observe local wildlife. "We saw deer by the primitive camp areas and had nightly campfires in our fire ring," notes a Hidden Meadows visitor. At Nelson's Landing, "The views from the campground are pretty and there are a lot of eagles nesting in this area."

What you should know

Site leveling considerations: Many Rochester area campgrounds have partially level sites. "The parking pads are very unlevel," cautions one Hidden Meadows reviewer. Similarly, at Nelson's Landing, "Sites are gravel and pretty level. Only a little leveling was needed."

Train noise: Several campgrounds experience railroad noise. Nelson's Landing campers report, "As with many RV parks they have railroad tracks nearby with trains come through several times a day/night." Plan accordingly with earplugs or white noise machines if you're a light sleeper.

Winter camping limitations: While most Rochester area RV parks close seasonally, Tresure Island RV Park offers extended shoulder season operations from April through October. Whitewater State Park remains open year-round with limited services, providing "plenty of space without being too close to your neighbors. Super easy to social distance here."

Tips for camping with families

Playground availability: When choosing family-friendly campgrounds, check for play facilities. One camper at Hidden Meadows notes, "If you're bringing the kids there is literally nothing to do there. They do have a play-set but that's where it ends." This contrasts with other parks offering more extensive recreation options.

Swimming options: Whitewater State Park provides a swimming beach that's popular with families. "We hiked, took trout fishing lesson, sat at the beach and had relaxing evenings by the fire," reports one visitor, highlighting the variety of activities available for different age groups.

Community areas: Several campgrounds feature community fire rings rather than individual fire pits. "The only down fall in the park is they don't allow campfires at the sites. There is a community campfire that can be used," explains one reviewer about Autumn Woods RV Park. This setup encourages social interaction but limits private evening campfires.

Tips from RVers

Hook-up placement: RVers should note that utility connection locations vary widely. At Hidden Meadows, one camper warns about "oddly spaced power hook up with sewer and water placements." Similarly, at Peterson City RV Park, "depending on the site and how far you back in, the electric hookup may be a distance."

Dump station access: For those without full hookups, access to dump stations varies by park. Crystal Springs RV Resort provides an easily accessible station, while Green Acres RV Park-Dexter offers convenient dump facilities that "are right there, and were clean" according to visitor reports.

Reservation timing: The Rochester-Marion KOA books quickly during peak season with only 41 total sites. "The staff was very helpful and kind. It has convenient access to the freeway and the city of Rochester," notes one visitor. Making reservations well in advance is recommended, especially for weekend stays between May and September.
