Best RV Parks & Resorts near Pine City, MN

Pokegama Lake RV Park and Campground provides full hookup sites for motorhomes with 50-amp electrical service, water connections, and sewer hookups. The park is open from May through October and sits near Pokegama Lake, offering both back-in and drive-through options for larger rigs. "The designers of this park have clearly never spent a night in an RV. Virtually every site is a blind back in from the driver seat, and the sewer connections are cut off about 12 inches above the ground," noted one visitor about nearby Grand Casino RV Resort. Grand Casino RV Resort features 271 full hookup sites with fire pits and picnic tables, while Banning RV Park provides pull-through sites that accommodate double-towing setups with both fifth wheels and utility trailers.

Most Pine City area RV parks maintain gravel pads rather than concrete, with varying degrees of levelness that may require stabilizing blocks. Cell service fluctuates throughout the region, with stronger signals near Interstate 35 and weaker coverage in more wooded locations. Several parks enforce quiet hours between 10pm and 8am, though enforcement varies by location. Based on reviews from The Dyrt, dump stations at some facilities can be challenging to access with double trailers. Winter camping options are limited, with Grand Casino RV Resort among the few offering year-round availability. Pet-friendly sites are common throughout the area, with Banning RV Park featuring a dedicated fenced dog park that received positive mentions in multiple reviews.

    Ham Lake Resort

Well Rounded RV Park and Campground

My partner and I scheduled a 3 day / 2 night stay in a new Vintage Cruiser RV for $39.99, in exchange for attending a presentation on private membership.

We checked in Wednesday evening, and the nicest staff I've ever met helped us acclimate to RV living. We are new to this game. They patiently described how to utilize the grey and black water tanks, as well as encouraged us to check-out the canoes, row boats, bikes, horseshoes, ladder golf and many other entertainment items - for FREE!

The map provided was accurate which made locating the cruiser a breeze. There were further instructions inside as well. The RV was immaculate. Provided for our use were all linens (a public very clean bath and shower was just across the road), dish soap, dish towels, paper towels, flat wear, plates, bowls, mugs and pans.

The campground has a couple of ponds, as well as access to Ham Lake where the watercraft is launched. There is a petting arena with goats, ponies, and a llama who gave my partner the stink eye, but fell in love with me rubbing the fence and giving me all googly eyes!

The clubhouse sells bundled wood, ice, snacks, cold drinks, ice cream and provides 24-hour fresh coffee. There is also a small resupply area, and gift shop.

There are pull-through sites, back ups, 50 and 30 amp hook ups, and tent sites, covered pavilions, picnic tables and fire pits.

The campground itself seems remote, secluded and peaceful, however, you are conveniently located to two well-stocked convenience stores, as well as Wal-Mart about 15 minutes away. It's also only about 45 minutes from the Minnesota Twin Cities.

One note: We visited in August and needed gallons of bug spray.

We very much enjoyed our get away!

    Ann Lake

    Rustic & Family Friendly

This is a great little rustic campground within an hour's drive of the Twin Cities! It has several potable water sources throughout the campground, but no running water for toilets or showers. There are several vault toilets. Each campsite has a picnic table and a fire ring. You can buy firewood & ice at the Sand Dunes Stop gas station, just a 10 minutes drive away.

This is a first-come, first-served campground, so no reservations required. This does mean that there is a chance you won't be able to get a site, but I've only had that happen one time when I got there at 6pm on a Saturday. There are usually sites available.

I love going to this campground - it's family friendly, and there is a swimming beach a quick 3 minute drive away! The hiking trails aren't half bad, either! I love coming here to relax for a weekend, spend some time at the beach, and just enjoy nature. If you go in the early to mid summer, you'll also hear local whip-poor-wills serenade you to sleep.

Overall, 4 stars. The only downsides are no running water and no ice & firewood at the campground itself.

Park’s designers hav never been in an RV

The designers of this park have clearly never spent a night in an RV. This place pushes all of my buttons for things not to do when building an RV park.

Virtually every site in the park is a blind back in from the driver seat. You’re trying to back your trailer into a site on the right side without being able to see anything over there. Additionally, the site number pedestals for each site are right against the corner of the driveway where you have to back around them without being able to see them. Number pedestals for all sites are also right against the road, limiting the amount that you can swing your tow vehicle to the opposite side of the road to back into the site.  I will guarantee that not one person on the design team has ever backed, a travel trailer or fifth wheel into an RV site. The owners should have checked the credentials of the designers they hired. If they did, they were lied to. If they didn’t, then they just didn’t care about their customers.

Finally, one of my all-time favorites, all of the sewer connections are cut off about 12 inches above the ground. This means that even in a relatively tall fifth wheel, you are going to be trying to make shit filled water flow uphill. These things need to be cut off just an inch or two above the ground level  so that your sewage can flow downhill.

If you were here to spend an evening gambling at the casino, the place is roomy and well maintained. If you just want to spend the night, and not spend half of it trying to get into your site and set up, there’s got to be someplace close that would be better to go. We won’t be back.

    Tall Tall Trees

Lots of tall evergreen trees (not sure of the specific species) here that you are nestled in. Have to know a seasonal site holder to camp here. Sites can be a little tricky backing into because of the trees, but ultimately they have enough space even for large rigs(there were three of us there: 2 5th wheels and one longer travel trailer). A picnic table and fire ring was provided at each site. Nice easy road to navigate getting into the campground. Close to Hinckley if you're looking for things to do!

    Father Hennepin State Park Campground

    Great getaway from the city

Right on Lake Mille Lacs, one of Minnesota’s largest. Walking distance from the bakery and bar! Newer, updated facilities. Boat access. Lake side sites (if you book early enough). You can hit Mille Lacs State Park if you want to knock them both out on one trip! This park seems to attract a lot of long term campers, as I’m sure it’s pretty reasonable to stay at the lake all summer. We went mid-July I think and the trees were literally raining caterpillars… it was tough to want to hang out in our tree canopy-covered site. Sooo.. we ventured outside of the park more at this one.

There was a festival going on in a town west of here that had a couple rides and a really fun patio bar. If you do decide to venture out at night, ask the bartender for the limo driver’s number; he’s the city’s “uber”!

    Banning State Park Campground

    Winter camping

This is a great place for winter camping! The campsites are large enough (despite the snow) to set up suitable winter tents, and each site has a picnic table and fire pit. In the park, there's a lot of ice climbing and cross country skiing. If you take a short walk from the main parking area towards the bathroom, and follow the trail alongside the bluff, you'll find awesome spots to climb and likely a lot of dedicated adventurers. Nearby the campsite you have a great water source, and a lot of peace and quiet at night despite being close to a residential area and town.

    Moose Lake City Park

    Will come again!

We stayed in site 27 and it was perfect for our truck, 40ft fifth wheel camper, and utv trailer. Its nice that the campground allows utv/atv access. If you are double pulling with a atv/utv trailer it is very challenging to use the dump station!!

Only downfall was all the goose poop and bugs, but thats to be expected on the lake. The weekend host and his wife were very nice people!

South of Sand Dunes State Forest

Nomad crew: Two humans, one adventure-seeking pup, zero bars on the phone 🏕️👫🐶📵

🌲 Backcountry Bliss (with a side of frustration)

Venturing into Sand Dunes State Forest feels like claiming a slice of untamed wilderness just an hour from the Cities. The experience? Rustic and immersive—zero amenities (no toilets, no water, no trash cans) as per MN DNR guidelines . That means real freedom—and responsibility.

You’ll access pull-off dispersed sites along gravel roads south of Ann Lake (Co Rd 233–237). The sites are spaced for solitude, nestled between pine stands and open sandy stretches—perfect for hammock hangs or pooch romps (). One camper even notes:

“Lots of poison Ivy. Weak cell service but manageable.”

    📵 Zero Bars, Zero Interruptions

Bring a journal and some good company—your phone’s chances are slim. Recent check-ins confirm unreliable cell coverage, even for Verizon. It’s peaceful… until you need GPS or an Uber. The upside? You’ll actually unplug and be present under the pines.

    🐜 Wide-Open Wilderness & Pesky Pests

Campers speak of “quiet and serene” nights once side roads thin out . But set foot off-trail and you risk scenic encounters with poison ivy (it’s nearly unavoidable) and mosquitoes thicker than the air . Long sleeves, tick checks, and bug spray are essential.

✅ Highs, Lows & Clever Tips

👍 Pros • Free, legal dispersed camping up to 14 days in summer; 21 in cooler seasons • Privacy and space—even pull-through spots for low-profile trailers • Trails galore—horse, ski, hiking, and horseback routes all crisscross here ()

👎 Cons • Poison ivy is everywhere—avoid off-trail wandering • Minimal cell service—plan accordingly • Primitive roads; bring anything from AWD to 4×4 depending on your rig and route

💡 Camp Hacker Hacks • Drive until a decay path opens, park, then trek 100–300 ft off-road to your camp • Download the MN DNR MVUM and use GPS overlay to avoid gated roads and day-use zones • Bug up at first signs of dusk—mosquitoes and ticks love these woods ()

    📝 Final Take

If you’re chasing raw, quiet, and free dispersed camping near civilization—you’ll find gold here. It’s honest-to-goodness backcountry: phone signal is scarce, poison ivy is a fact of life, and you supply everything beyond a plot of land and forest atmosphere. But those epic silent nights, stars overhead, and pine-scented breezes? Priceless.

Score: 4.5/5—For freeing your soul, but testing your patience (and other survival basics).

    Grand Casino RV Resort

    Rocking RockTember Music Festival

We booked our stay at the RV Resort so we wouldn't have to drive two and a half hours back and forth during the two day Grand RockTember Music Festival. *Please note when there's an event, book early!! This RV Resort has 271 RV/Camping full hook up sites that include a picnic table and fire pit. The sites are very close together with little to no privacy, but it did a fine job as we were there for the concert. Guest Services were super friendly when we checked in, and they give you a pass card to enter & exit the Resort. There is 24 hour security, and shuttle bus service to the casino, although we enjoyed the 1/2 mile walk to the amphitheater. All the sites are back in only, and are a tight squeeze for bigger rigs. They enforced the quite hours well, and we got a good nights sleep. There's a heated outdoor pool, and small convince store in the guest services building. They have a pet walking area, and kennels if you want to spend time at the casino. The bathhouse offered private toilet stalls and showers, and we squeaky clean!!! If you like to golf, don't miss the 18 hole Grand National Golf Course next door. We enjoyed our stay, and will be back again.

Guide to Pine City

RV parks in Pine City, Minnesota sit on primarily level terrain at around 950 feet elevation. The region features a mix of densely wooded areas and open lake access points, with seasonal weather patterns that make most facilities operational from May through October. Most campgrounds in this area maintain gravel interior roads with varying degrees of accessibility for larger rigs.

What to do

Water recreation access: At Pokegama Lake RV Park And Golf, campers can launch boats directly across from the campground. "There was a boat launch across the road for those looking for a place to to get out on the water with their water craft," notes one visitor who found this convenient for weekend stays.

Golfing opportunities: Several campgrounds in the Pine City region feature on-site golf courses that attract visitors. "They have golf, a pool, lake nearby, and seasonal camping," writes a camper about their experience at Pokegama Lake RV Park.

River tubing: Country Camping Tent & RV Park offers popular river tubing on the Rum River. "Tubing! They have a bus that takes you into town float back to the campground, love it," shared one enthusiastic reviewer. The river runs directly past the campground, making it easy to access water activities.

Dog exercise areas: Several campgrounds feature designated dog areas, with one reviewer specifically noting about Banning RV Park: "We absolutely loved the dog park. It was not just some small dog area it was top of the line dog park." The park includes a complete dog agility course.

What campers like

Spacious sites: Campers frequently mention appreciating the roomy sites at Country Camping RV Park on the Rum River. "HUGE sites! You can either relax in the pool or even take a ride down the rum river in a rented canoe, tube, or kayak," notes one reviewer who found the park accommodating for various camping styles.

Heated pools: When lake temperatures aren't ideal, some Pine City area RV parks offer heated swimming options. "The pool had a perfect temperature and nice lounging area. Shuttle took you to the casino 24 hours a day," mentioned a camper at Grand Casino RV Resort.

Winter options: Unlike many seasonal facilities, some parks accommodate cold-weather camping. "I'm talking winter camping on the lake on the Ice in an 'Ice Castle' catching walleye," reports one reviewer at Hidden Bay RV Resort, noting, "Had a great time fishing in the camper (Ice Castle) well plowed roads, nice showers."

Entertainment amenities: Family-friendly features get positive reviews at several campgrounds. "Fun Fun Fun... Great variety of things to do for everyone. Group sites, tent sites, covered wagon sites! Floating on the Rum River, swimming pool with splash pad, little camp store, Golf cart rentals!" shared one camper about their experience.

What you should know

Site leveling challenges: Many Pine City area RV parks have sites with slight grading issues. One reviewer at Banning RV Park noted: "Our sites were grass that was a little long and rutted from what seemed from previous tenants. This made getting leveling a little difficult and out fold out stairs touched the ground before fully being deployed."

Shared water hookups: Some campgrounds use shared water connections that can surprise unprepared campers. "We were quick to learn that water hookups were shared with other sites and required 'y' connections at the spigots," explained one reviewer who had to connect through another camper's hookup.

Varying cellular coverage: Cell service quality fluctuates significantly across the Pine City region, with better reception typically found closer to town centers. Reception can be particularly weak in heavily wooded camping areas.

Reservation timing: Popular campgrounds fill quickly during peak season, especially those with special amenities. "We booked our stay at the RV Resort so we wouldn't have to drive two and a half hours back and forth during the two day Grand RockTember Music Festival. Please note when there's an event, book early!!"

Tips for camping with families

Look for splash pads: Country Camping RV Park on the Rum River offers water features specifically designed for younger campers. "Great variety of things to do for everyone... swimming pool with splash pad," notes one grandparent who found it ideal for family visits.

Check playground facilities: Family-oriented campgrounds in the Pine City region typically include play areas. "I stayed here 3 weeks ago with my wife and 2 young children and it was fantastic great playground and heated pool the spaces were well kept and spaced apart 10-10 would most defiantly go again! A ton for the kids to do!" shared one satisfied parent.

Consider noise levels: Not all campgrounds maintain the same quiet hours or enforce them consistently. One reviewer mentioned leaving early because "twice I ran into the same group of people that thought it was ok to open up their vehicle doors and blast music well into the night."

Ask about indoor activities: Some campgrounds offer indoor recreation spaces for rainy days. "It has a heated pool, splash pad area, BIG playground area, indoor game room, HUGE sites!" noted a reviewer who found options for all weather conditions.

Tips from RVers

Water hose length: Several Pine City area RV parks have water connections positioned far from parking pads. One camper noted needing to purchase additional hose: "Our water source ended up being 75' plus from our RV. Thankfully I just happened to be carrying the extra hose for several years but never had to use it before."

Back-in challenges: Some parks have difficult site angles for larger rigs. "Back-in site was 90 degrees to the road - if the bathhouse parking lot wasn't across from it, wouldn't have been able to swing in on a 24' travel trailer," shared one RVer about their experience.

Check sewer connection height: Unusual sewer connection designs can cause problems. "All of the sewer connections are cut off about 12 inches above the ground. This means that even in a relatively tall fifth wheel, you are going to be trying to make sewage flow uphill," noted one frustrated camper.

Double-check site specifications: RVers should confirm specific site details before arrival. "We had picked a specific site but when we got there were told that we were in another spot. It was difficult to see where we should actually park on the site," explained one camper about their experience.
