    Fish Lake Acres Campground

    Quiet, Lake Views

This campground is great especially when compared with state park camping. Full hookups available, quite a few pull through lots and close to the twin cities! No wifi, so make sure you've got decent cell service and hotspot if you need internet/wifi. Verizon gets ok coverage here, T-Mobile does too. Showers/bathhouses are clean and the hot water runs forever and not coin operated or push button like some others I've been to! Bonus! Good toilet paper in the bathrooms not the cheap stuff. The lake is literally out your door and they do have a small swimming beach and boat launch. MN Horse and Hunt club is about a mile or so up a trail access that is Almosy directly across from the camp entrance. There is an ATM there along with a bar and restaurant. Be prepared to hear gunshots regularly but it's not really bothersome unless you aren't prepared for it. The trail to the club is safe to walk though. The campground ONLY accepts cash so be sure to hit the ATM before you get here. They also charge $2 extra per dog if you have them. Nightly rate for the full hookup site I had was $32 with the dog. They charge .50 c per log for firewood. Each site has a picnic table and fire ring. The staff are really nice and laid back. It's a really nice little campground!

    Ham Lake Resort

Well Rounded RV Park and Campground

My partner and I scheduled a 3 day / 2 night stay in a new Vintage Cruiser RV for $39.99, in exchange for attending a presentation on private membership.

We checked in Wednesday evening, and the nicest staff I've ever met helped us acclimate to RV living. We are new to this game. They patiently described how to utilize the grey and black water tanks, as well as encouraged us to check-out the canoes, row boats, bikes, horseshoes, ladder golf and many other entertainment items - for FREE!

The map provided was accurate which made locating the cruiser a breeze. There were further instructions inside as well. The RV was immaculate. Provided for our use were all linens (a public very clean bath and shower was just across the road), dish soap, dish towels, paper towels, flat wear, plates, bowls, mugs and pans.

The campground has a couple of ponds, as well as access to Ham Lake where the watercraft is launched. There is a petting arena with goats, ponies, and a llama who gave my partner the stink eye, but fell in love with me rubbing the fence and giving me all googly eyes!

The clubhouse sells bundled wood, ice, snacks, cold drinks, ice cream and provides 24-hour fresh coffee. There is also a small resupply area, and gift shop.

There are pull-through sites, back ups, 50 and 30 amp hook ups, and tent sites, covered pavilions, picnic tables and fire pits.

The campground itself seems remote, secluded and peaceful, however, you are conveniently located to two well-stocked convenience stores, as well as Wal-Mart about 15 minutes away. It's also only about 45 minutes from the Minnesota Twin Cities.

One note: We visited in August and needed gallons of bug spray.

We very much enjoyed our get away!

    Ann Lake

    Rustic & Family Friendly

This is a great little rustic campground within an hour's drive of the Twin Cities! It has several potable water sources throughout the campground, but no running water for toilets or showers. There are several vault toilets. Each campsite has a picnic table and a fire ring. You can buy firewood & ice at the Sand Dunes Stop gas station, just a 10 minutes drive away.

This is a first-come, first-served campground, so no reservations required. This does mean that there is a chance you won't be able to get a site, but I've only had that happen one time when I got there at 6pm on a Saturday. There are usually sites available.

I love going to this campground - it's family friendly, and there is a swimming beach a quick 3 minute drive away! The hiking trails aren't half bad, either! I love coming here to relax for a weekend, spend some time at the beach, and just enjoy nature. If you go in the early to mid summer, you'll also hear local whip-poor-wills serenade you to sleep.

Overall, 4 stars. The only downsides are no running water and no ice & firewood at the campground itself.

    Lebanon Hills Regional Park

    Friendly staff & quiet

Great location for easy access to mountain bike trails. Friendly staff. Clean facilities. Nice trail within the campground. Some sites are more shaded than others in the east loop so look at photos if you want shade. Sites that back up to the green space are very sunny. 87 is a great site! Plenty of space for a trailer or tent with a private “nook” for the fire pit.

    Lake Elmo County Park Reserve

    Great for the kiddos

For a County Park, Lake Elmo has an impressive list of amenities. Before we even get to the campsite let's mention the filtered swimming pond. This man made pond is a sandy bottom and surrounded by a nice sand beach. Large built in umbrellas are available for sun coverage and there is a concession stand and bathrooms with showers. And yes, as I mentioned the water is filtered! No gross goose poop or green algae to deal with! Next to the swim pond is a giant playground with fun for the big and little kids. Other amenities include archery, horse trails, paved and grass trails, camper spots, rustic spots and hike in camping spots. In winter the xc ski trails are lit for evening skiing. Or let's be honest early afternoon. It is Minnesota and the suns down by 4 In the Winter! They also have a newer Nordic center that's open all year round and includes a locker room with showers. The hike in camp spot we chose was on a small lake so it had a nice breeze and made it easy to bring a kayak or paddleboard and hop right in. There is also a boat launch for your larger toys! The trails in the park are quite impressive for its size. We enjoyed a 5 mile loop off the Nordic center and right past the camp spot. A picnic table and fire pit as well as nice flat tent pad were provided. If you're coming in from out of town then you're just a 5 minute drive from Woodbury and all the amenities you'd ever need but the park feels miles away from it all.

    Tresure Island RV Park

    It’s a parking lot…

We are here for a show at the casino and thought it would be fun to bring the camper down and glamp for the weekend. It is just a parking lot but the sites are all pull through and there is plenty of room between sites and ours was perfectly level.

We have dogs so the fact that it’s all asphalt and rock is a bit of a bummer but we are close to the exercise area and they do love little walks. It also seems to be controlling some of the normal bad pet parent behavior we see at even parks. Like letting the dogs run with out leashes or tethering them all day to bark at everything.

The sites do not have fire rings but there are some community ones and it appears the other campers brought their own smokeless fire pits to use.

There is a shuttle to the casino and at 7pm folks seemed to clear out to head over. It was honestly one of the quietest campgrounds we’ve been to on a Friday night.

The bath house is newer and super clean- not a single creepy spider web in any corners.

On Verizon I have full bars so we haven’t tried the park WiFi but we’ve been able to use our chrome cast and two iPads off my cell phone with zero issues. Because it’s in a river valley the air tv single is terrible so we are glad to have the chrome cast with us- since the forecast called for a raining day.

Guide to Circle Pines

RV sites near Circle Pines, Minnesota cluster along the Rum River and surrounding lakes in Anoka County, where the terrain consists primarily of gently rolling hills and mixed woodlands at an elevation of 860-900 feet. Most campgrounds open from early May through mid-October, with July temperatures averaging 71-85°F. Weather patterns can change rapidly, with afternoon thunderstorms common during summer months.

What to do

River recreation on the Rum River: At Country Camping Tent & RV Park on the Rum River, water activities are a major attraction. According to David G., "The tubing is a plus. The river is very clean and sandy bottom." Many campers rent tubes, canoes, or kayaks for floating trips along the river. As Tom D. notes, "Tubing! They have a bus that takes you into town float back to the campground, love it."

Mini-golf and games: St. Cloud-Clearwater RV Park provides on-site recreation beyond swimming. S L. reports the campground has "a 9 hole mini golf, shuffleboard, salt water pool, and a lobby/gift shop." The park also offers "a nice seating area for those hot or raining days with free arcade." Activities typically run from morning until dusk throughout the camping season.

Wildlife viewing: Seasonal campsites often border natural areas. Dan O. from Mississippi Riverwood RV Park describes "large wooded lots, most facing the river or wildlife pond." Binoculars are recommended for spotting local birds and animals. Morning and evening hours typically yield the best wildlife viewing opportunities.

What campers like

Spacious sites: Campers frequently mention the generous spacing between sites at campgrounds near Circle Pines. At Country Camping RV Park, Spencer C. praised the "HUGE sites" noting "Max trailer length that I've seen here is 70'. Anyone can fit in here!" Carol H. agrees, mentioning the "great variety of things to do for everyone. Group sites, tent sites, covered wagon sites!"

Clean facilities: Campground cleanliness ranks high among visitor priorities. Heidi H. at St. Cloud-Clearwater RV Park notes "Clean bathrooms with hot water, clean laundry room." Cheri W. stayed for "a little more than a month" and recommends the "friendly staff, quiet during the week and busy on the weekends. Nice pool, laundry facility, nice restrooms with showers."

Family-friendly amenities: Parents appreciate campgrounds with multiple activities. At Country Camping Tent & RV Park on the Rum River, Beasty B. shares: "I stayed here 3 weeks ago with my wife and 2 young children and it was fantastic great playground and heated pool the spaces were well kept and spaced apart." Aaron L. describes St. Cloud-Clearwater as "100% Gem" with "so much to do for them. Pool, pool table, soccer table, mini golf, swing set, clubhouse, 3 wheel bike racing, and water balloons wars."

What you should know

Seasonal operation: Most RV parks near Circle Pines operate during warm months only. Country Camping RV Park runs from "May 1 - Oct 1" while St. Cloud-Clearwater RV Park opens from "May 3 to Oct 13." Always check current operating dates before planning trips, as weather conditions may affect opening and closing times.

Reservation requirements: During peak times, advance booking is essential. Sites fill quickly, especially for weekends. At Dakotah Meadows RV Park, Lisa D. notes an issue where "they don't make you pay to make a reservation so people reserve a spot and don't show up." For holiday weekends, reservations 2-3 months in advance are recommended.

Site characteristics: Most RV parks offer full hookup sites with varying pad materials. Jim M. describes Dakotah Meadows as having "cement parking pads with full hookups. The grass around the lots is very green, lush and well maintained." Chris F. adds that "The sites are paved and have well-maintained grass," though mentions "wifi is not great, less than 1MB download speeds from our site."

Ownership structures: Some RV parks operate under private ownership models. Laurie V. at Mississippi Riverwood RV Park cautions, "This hidden gem is a PRIVATE RV Park where each lot is individually owned and most owners live South in the winter. Individual owners can rent their lot with restrictions and those rentals are between the owner and the renter."

Tips for camping with families

Kid-friendly activities: Wildwood RV Park & Campground offers multiple options for children. Amy F. shares, "The pool and playground were clean and nice. The kids tried the bike trail that they could access right from the campground." Dominick C. adds, "The kayaking/canoeing was an amazing adventure that everyone should try. It was even great for kids 3 and 6."

Playground access: Several campgrounds feature modern play areas. At Country Camping Tent & RV Park on the Rum River, Spencer C. mentions a "BIG playground area" along with "heated pool, splash pad area." These facilities provide entertainment options when weather conditions aren't ideal for water activities.

Proximity to attractions: Some campgrounds offer easy access to regional activities. Tori K. notes that Wildwood RV Park & Campground is "Close to Taylors falls and stillwater" and recommends, "Be sure to check out Franconia sculpture garden if you're staying here and have the time!"

Tips from RVers

Hookup variations: RV campers should confirm specific hookup types before booking. At Ham Lake Resort, sites include "pull-through sites, back ups, 50 and 30 amp hook ups." James and Susan K. describe Dakotah Meadows sites as "60+ feet, concrete and level. Each site has their own fire pit."

Laundry facilities: Access to laundry varies between campgrounds. Dakotah Meadows provides laundry facilities that "require hotel card entry. Cards are $5 with $3 returned at check-out." St. Cloud-Clearwater RV Park offers on-site laundry facilities with clean machines, though hours may vary seasonally.

Internet connectivity: Wi-Fi quality differs significantly among RV parks near Circle Pines. Jaime N. notes at Wildwood RV Park & Campground, "Sadly I needed 4 hours of internet and my cellular data here was spotty. I spent this time right outside the office." Chris F. reports at Dakotah Meadows, "wifi is not great, less than 1MB download speeds from our site, and our Verizon service was pretty poor in our spot, max 2 bars."
