Best RV Parks & Resorts near Cambridge, MN

Country Camping RV Park in Isanti provides full hookup sites with 30 and 50 amp service just minutes from Cambridge, Minnesota. This highly-rated park operates seasonally from May 1 to October 1 and features spacious sites that accommodate big rigs with pull-through access. Nearby, RiversEdge RV Park offers concrete patios at each site with crushed granite streets and drives for easy maneuvering. Grand Casino RV Resort in Hinckley, about 45 minutes northeast, maintains year-round operations with 271 full hookup sites, though all are back-in only. "The sites are very close together with little to no privacy, but it did a fine job as we were there for the concert," notes one RV traveler about Grand Casino's layout.

Most rv parks in the region maintain sanitary dump stations and trash facilities, with varying levels of cell service depending on location. Pet owners will find dedicated dog areas at several campgrounds, including a fenced dog park at Banning RV Park and Campground. Seasonal availability differs significantly between parks - while Grand Casino operates year-round, most others close between October and May. Advance reservations are strongly recommended during summer months and special events, particularly at Grand Casino during concert weekends. RV campers should note that some parks have sewer connections positioned higher than ideal, with one reviewer mentioning: "These things need to be cut off just an inch or two above the ground level so that your sewage can flow downhill."

    Ham Lake Resort

Well Rounded RV Park and Campground

My partner and I scheduled a 3 day / 2 night stay in a new Vintage Cruiser RV for $39.99, in exchange for attending a presentation on private membership.

We checked in Wednesday evening, and the nicest staff I've ever met helped us acclimate to RV living. We are new to this game. They patiently described how to utilize the grey and black water tanks, as well as encouraged us to check-out the canoes, row boats, bikes, horseshoes, ladder golf and many other entertainment items - for FREE!

The map provided was accurate which made locating the cruiser a breeze. There were further instructions inside as well. The RV was immaculate. Provided for our use were all linens (a public very clean bath and shower was just across the road), dish soap, dish towels, paper towels, flat wear, plates, bowls, mugs and pans.

The campground has a couple of ponds, as well as access to Ham Lake where the watercraft is launched. There is a petting arena with goats, ponies, and a llama who gave my partner the stink eye, but fell in love with me rubbing the fence and giving me all googly eyes!

The clubhouse sells bundled wood, ice, snacks, cold drinks, ice cream and provides 24-hour fresh coffee. There is also a small resupply area, and gift shop.

There are pull-through sites, back ups, 50 and 30 amp hook ups, and tent sites, covered pavilions, picnic tables and fire pits.

The campground itself seems remote, secluded and peaceful, however, you are conveniently located to two well-stocked convenience stores, as well as Wal-Mart about 15 minutes away. It's also only about 45 minutes from the Minnesota Twin Cities.

One note: We visited in August and needed gallons of bug spray.

We very much enjoyed our get away!

    Ann Lake

    Rustic & Family Friendly

This is a great little rustic campground within an hour's drive of the Twin Cities! It has several potable water sources throughout the campground, but no running water for toilets or showers. There are several vault toilets. Each campsite has a picnic table and a fire ring. You can buy firewood & ice at the Sand Dunes Stop gas station, just a 10 minutes drive away.

This is a first-come, first-served campground, so no reservations required. This does mean that there is a chance you won't be able to get a site, but I've only had that happen one time when I got there at 6pm on a Saturday. There are usually sites available.

I love going to this campground - it's family friendly, and there is a swimming beach a quick 3 minute drive away! The hiking trails aren't half bad, either! I love coming here to relax for a weekend, spend some time at the beach, and just enjoy nature. If you go in the early to mid summer, you'll also hear local whip-poor-wills serenade you to sleep.

Overall, 4 stars. The only downsides are no running water and no ice & firewood at the campground itself.

    Grand Casino RV Resort

Park’s designers hav never been in an RV

The designers of this park have clearly never spent a night in an RV. This place pushes all of my buttons for things not to do when building an RV park.

Virtually every site in the park is a blind back in from the driver seat. You’re trying to back your trailer into a site on the right side without being able to see anything over there. Additionally, the site number pedestals for each site are right against the corner of the driveway where you have to back around them without being able to see them. Number pedestals for all sites are also right against the road, limiting the amount that you can swing your tow vehicle to the opposite side of the road to back into the site.  I will guarantee that not one person on the design team has ever backed, a travel trailer or fifth wheel into an RV site. The owners should have checked the credentials of the designers they hired. If they did, they were lied to. If they didn’t, then they just didn’t care about their customers.

Finally, one of my all-time favorites, all of the sewer connections are cut off about 12 inches above the ground. This means that even in a relatively tall fifth wheel, you are going to be trying to make shit filled water flow uphill. These things need to be cut off just an inch or two above the ground level  so that your sewage can flow downhill.

If you were here to spend an evening gambling at the casino, the place is roomy and well maintained. If you just want to spend the night, and not spend half of it trying to get into your site and set up, there’s got to be someplace close that would be better to go. We won’t be back.

    Lake Elmo County Park Reserve

    Great for the kiddos

For a County Park, Lake Elmo has an impressive list of amenities. Before we even get to the campsite let's mention the filtered swimming pond. This man made pond is a sandy bottom and surrounded by a nice sand beach. Large built in umbrellas are available for sun coverage and there is a concession stand and bathrooms with showers. And yes, as I mentioned the water is filtered! No gross goose poop or green algae to deal with! Next to the swim pond is a giant playground with fun for the big and little kids. Other amenities include archery, horse trails, paved and grass trails, camper spots, rustic spots and hike in camping spots. In winter the xc ski trails are lit for evening skiing. Or let's be honest early afternoon. It is Minnesota and the suns down by 4 In the Winter! They also have a newer Nordic center that's open all year round and includes a locker room with showers. The hike in camp spot we chose was on a small lake so it had a nice breeze and made it easy to bring a kayak or paddleboard and hop right in. There is also a boat launch for your larger toys! The trails in the park are quite impressive for its size. We enjoyed a 5 mile loop off the Nordic center and right past the camp spot. A picnic table and fire pit as well as nice flat tent pad were provided. If you're coming in from out of town then you're just a 5 minute drive from Woodbury and all the amenities you'd ever need but the park feels miles away from it all.

    Pathfinder Village-St Croix

    Tall Tall Trees

Lots of tall evergreen trees (not sure of the specific species) here that you are nestled in. Have to know a seasonal site holder to camp here. Sites can be a little tricky backing into because of the trees, but ultimately they have enough space even for large rigs(there were three of us there: 2 5th wheels and one longer travel trailer). A picnic table and fire ring was provided at each site. Nice easy road to navigate getting into the campground. Close to Hinckley if you're looking for things to do!

    Minneapolis Northwest KOA

    Good Campground but Close Sites

Sites are close to each other, but easy access, clean grounds and facilities, friendly staff, and a K9 fenced area for a pet friendly campground.

    Father Hennepin State Park Campground

    Great getaway from the city

Right on Lake Mille Lacs, one of Minnesota’s largest. Walking distance from the bakery and bar! Newer, updated facilities. Boat access. Lake side sites (if you book early enough). You can hit Mille Lacs State Park if you want to knock them both out on one trip! This park seems to attract a lot of long term campers, as I’m sure it’s pretty reasonable to stay at the lake all summer. We went mid-July I think and the trees were literally raining caterpillars… it was tough to want to hang out in our tree canopy-covered site. Sooo.. we ventured outside of the park more at this one.

There was a festival going on in a town west of here that had a couple rides and a really fun patio bar. If you do decide to venture out at night, ask the bartender for the limo driver’s number; he’s the city’s “uber”!

    Banning State Park Campground

    Winter camping

This is a great place for winter camping! The campsites are large enough (despite the snow) to set up suitable winter tents, and each site has a picnic table and fire pit. In the park, there's a lot of ice climbing and cross country skiing. If you take a short walk from the main parking area towards the bathroom, and follow the trail alongside the bluff, you'll find awesome spots to climb and likely a lot of dedicated adventurers. Nearby the campsite you have a great water source, and a lot of peace and quiet at night despite being close to a residential area and town.

Guide to Cambridge

Camping in the Cambridge area offers diverse options in Minnesota's north central region, which sits at approximately 960 feet above sea level with a humid continental climate. Summer temperatures typically range from 65-85°F, with the camping season running from May through October at most facilities. The area features numerous lakes and the Rum River, creating opportunities for water-based recreation.

What to do

River recreation: Float the Rum River at Country Camping Tent & RV Park on the Rum River, where "tubing is a plus" and "the river is very clean and sandy bottom," according to David G. The campground provides rental equipment and shuttle service for tubing adventures.

Quarry exploration: Visit nearby Quarry Park just a short drive from Clearwater. "We stayed here to visit the nearby quarry park and that was a blast!" notes Teresa O. about her stay at St. Cloud-Clearwater RV Park. The park features swimming holes in former granite quarries.

Water activities: Enjoy multiple water options including pools and splash pads at several campgrounds. "The campground is nice and clean. Good size spaces. The tubing is a plus... Pool was small but nice. Splash pad was even nice for adults," shares David G. about Country Camping.

What campers like

Spacious sites: Room to spread out at many rv campgrounds in Cambridge, Minnesota. "Large sites. Great tubing and canoeing," mentions Rory T. about Country Camping Tent & RV Park, while another camper praised "HUGE sites" at the same location.

Clean facilities: Well-maintained amenities matter to campers. "The bathhouse offered private toilet stalls and showers, and were squeaky clean!!!" reports TyAnn J. about Grand Casino RV Resort in Hinckley. Another reviewer at a different park commented on "clean bathrooms with hot water, clean laundry room."

Dog-friendly amenities: Dedicated pet areas make a difference. "We absolutely loved the dog park. It was not just some small dog area it was top of the line dog park," explains Matt P. about Banning RV Park and Campground, which features a complete dog agility course.

What you should know

Site layout variations: Research your specific site as layouts differ significantly between and within campgrounds. At St. Cloud Campground & RV Park, "the site itself was nice and had decent spacing between sites, but I noticed some of the other sites were quite close," reports one camper.

Seasonal operations: Check opening dates before planning. Most Cambridge-area RV parks operate seasonally from May through October, though Grand Casino RV Resort remains open year-round.

Water hookup arrangements: Prepare for shared connections at some campgrounds. "Water hookups were shared with other sites and required 'y' connections at the spigots," notes Sam C. about Banning RV Park, adding that "our source ended up being 75' plus from our RV."

Connectivity considerations: Expect variable WiFi quality. "It was the worst wifi of about 15 campgrounds we've been to on our trip this year. They warned us it was slow, but we couldn't even connect to it from our site," explains one reviewer about St. Cloud Campground.

Tips for camping with families

Playground access: Choose parks with play equipment for children. At Country Camping RV Park, "I stayed here 3 weeks ago with my wife and 2 young children and it was fantastic great playground and heated pool the spaces were well kept and spaced apart 10-10 would most defiantly go again! A ton for the kids to do!" reports Beasty B.

Indoor alternatives: Look for rainy day options like game rooms. Spencer C. notes that Country Camping Tent & RV Park includes "an indoor game room" among its family-friendly amenities.

Family-oriented activities: Participate in scheduled events at parks like St. Cloud-Clearwater RV Park, which offers "mini golf, shuffleboard, salt water pool, and a lobby/gift shop. They also offer a nice seating area for those hot or raining days with free arcade," according to one reviewer.

Tips from RVers

Site access considerations: Check approach angles before booking. At Grand Casino RV Resort, one camper noted "Back-in site was 90 degrees to the road - if the bathhouse parking lot wasn't across from it, wouldn't have been able to swing in on a 24' travel trailer."

Utility placement: Bring extra-long hoses and cables for some campgrounds. "The water pressure was good, and we put on a reducer. Our utilities were at the back of the site, and we needed about 35' of electric and water hose," shares MickandKarla W. about their stay at Fiddlestix RV and Golf Resort.

Amenity verification: Confirm features before arrival as descriptions may vary. "This place does have 30amp and 50amp hook ups and has pull through spots and sewer sites so that needs to change on this app," advises Spencer C. about Country Camping Tent & RV Park.
