Most campgrounds in the area accommodate both tent and RV camping, with several offering cabin rentals and limited glamping options.

The coastal campgrounds typically maintain stricter seasonal schedules due to New England weather patterns, while some inland locations may extend their seasons slightly. Water and electric hookups are standard at most established campgrounds, though full hookups with sewer connections vary by location. Campsite reservations become essential during summer months, particularly for waterfront locations. One camper noted, "If you like the beach you should give it a try. The sites are open with maybe one tree on most sites. Sites have paved and concrete driveways and lots of them have a concrete pad that would be under your awning."

Several visitors highlighted the value proposition of camping near premium beach destinations, with one reviewer stating, "When families are paying over $2000/week to rent within steps of the campground, you can't beat this value at these prices!" Inland campgrounds like Tuxbury Pond RV Campground provide alternative experiences with pond access and more wooded settings. The campgrounds closest to Byfield vary in amenity quality, with some facilities receiving praise for clean grounds and helpful staff, while others draw criticism for maintenance issues. Most developed campgrounds in the region provide basic amenities like showers, restrooms, and some form of recreational facilities, though amenity quality varies considerably between locations.

Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park™ Camp Resort, Lakes Region

    Downhill since new management

Yogi’s Jellystone Park– Milton, New Hampshire: Seasonal Camper Review I have been camping at Yogi’s Jellystone Park in Milton for five years, including the last two as a seasonal camper. Unfortunately, my recent experiences under new management have been disappointing and frustrating. Pet Fence Policy and Safety Concerns
At the start of this season, the new general manager, Amanda, instructed me to remove my pet fence, citing liability issues. Despite my having signed a waiver absolving the park of responsibility for my dog’s actions, she insisted on its removal without providing a clear explanation. I complied reluctantly, only to observe many other campsites retaining similar pet fences throughout the season, including one seasonal camper who kept theirs up all season and transient sites with fences as well. This inconsistent enforcement of rules is unfair and undermines trust. After seeing others with pet fences, I reinstated mine to protect my dog, especially after two incidents where loose dogs entered my site and charged at my dog. Amanda then threatened me with non-renewal of my seasonal contract if I did not remove the fence again, forcing me to comply once more. I wrote to corporate regarding this issue since Amanda was of no help but never heard back from corporate. Loss of Seasonal Site and Corporate Decisions
Yogi’s removed nine seasonal sites this year, including mine, with little warning. This decision affects long-term campers, some with over 20 years of history at the park. It appears motivated by corporate interests, favoring transient sites or cabins, which generate more revenue. The loss of a seasonal site after investing time, effort, and money into making it beautiful is deeply disheartening and reflects poor management priorities. Entertainment and Atmosphere
Adult entertainment offerings have drastically declined. This year’s highlight was a 30-minute Saturday night hayride, with no live bands in the pavilion throughout the entire season. Under previous management, live music was a regular and enjoyable feature. The lack of engaging activities diminishes the overall campground experience. Myself and other campers offered suggestions to management regarding entertainment for adults but they didn't take any of our suggestions. Bear Interaction
Despite the park’s theme, sightings of Yogi Bear are rare. On one occasion, a golf cart carrying excited children stopped to see Yogi Bear, but the character ignored them and drove past without interaction, which was very disappointing. Management and Staff Attitude
Amanda, the general manager, presents as unapproachable and aloof. She did not introduce herself to seasonal campers at the beginning of the season, many of whom do not even know what she looks like and the camping season ends in just a couple of weeks. Most staff members also exhibit a snobbish attitude, often failing to acknowledge campers, which creates an unwelcoming environment. Cost and Recommendation
The campground is overpriced relative to the quality of experience and level of service provided. Given the inconsistent rule enforcement, loss of seasonal sites, diminished entertainment, and poor management attitude, I cannot recommend Yogi’s Jellystone Park in Milton NH Those interested in a Yogis campground should consider other locations.

    York Beach Camper Park

    Hideaway

Don’t let the entrance turn you off. Once you get back into the campgrounds, it’s so cute. You are nestled in the woods. You feel like you are in the Forest but so close to the ocean. It’s calm and peaceful. The owners are so friendly and kind.

What to do

Hiking trails: Harold Parker State Forest's Lorraine Park Campground provides access to numerous woodland paths. "There are lots of trails and ponds," notes Kelly F., who appreciated the natural setting. The forest offers over 35 miles of marked trails with varying difficulty levels suitable for day hikers.

Water activities: Kayaking and canoeing opportunities abound at Pawtuckaway State Park Campground, where campers can enjoy lakefront sites. "This a fantastic little camp for if you want to go canoeing or kayaking or boating of any kind!" shared Matt R. The park features three islands with numerous waterfront campsites for direct water access.

Beach access: At Winter Island Park, campers can enjoy oceanfront camping with convenient beach access. "Camping on the oceanfront was a rare treat!" reports Cynthia K., who appreciated the proximity to water. The beach includes tide pools for exploring marine life during low tide, with lifeguards on duty during summer months.

What campers like

Waterfront sites: Many campers highlight the value of booking waterfront locations. At Pawtuckaway State Park, "The sites on the water book up quickly but they're perfect for fishing and boating. Also, the view!" according to J L. These premium sites often require reservations 6-9 months in advance.

Wooded privacy: Wakeda Campground offers spacious, private camping spots among tall pines. "Great employees, clean reliable power. No issues great spread out sites," reports Zachary W. The campground maintains natural barriers between sites, with many spots accommodating larger tents and multiple vehicles.

Accessibility to attractions: Cape Ann Camp Site serves as an excellent base for regional exploration. "Cape Ann Campground is located close to Gloucester and Rockport. The campground is clean and quiet with beautiful tent sites," explains Della S. Most regional campgrounds sit within 15-20 minutes of local attractions and beaches.

What you should know

Seasonal limitations: Most campgrounds near Byfield operate from May through mid-October. "It opens about a month before Memorial Day weekend for a quieter shoulder season," Jean C. notes about Hampton Beach State Park Campground. Weather-related closures typically begin by Halloween, with reduced services in late September.

Reservation requirements: Popular sites fill quickly, especially during summer. "We called last min and were thankful they had a spot. Arrived at dark and they were friendly and accommodating," reports Jac about Beach Rose RV Park, highlighting the challenge of last-minute bookings.

Pet restrictions: Some state parks prohibit pets during peak season. "Tried to plan ahead this year and get a prime site to learn they don't allow dogs anywhere in the campground during summer months," explains Erin W. about Pawtuckaway State Park. Check current pet policies before booking, as rules vary significantly between private and public campgrounds.

Tips for camping with families

Playground facilities: The Pines Camping Area offers amenities specifically for children. "The playground is perfect for kids, the creek is right behind you which gave us beautiful views right outside our RV window(s)," shares Stephanie. Most family-oriented campgrounds maintain play areas and scheduled activities during summer weekends.

Water safety considerations: Beach camping requires additional vigilance. At Winter Island Park, "Life guards were paying attention," notes Lisa M., though parents should maintain close supervision of children near water. Most waterfront campgrounds maintain designated swimming areas separate from fishing or boating zones.

Entertainment options: Many campgrounds schedule regular family activities. "Beautiful campground, clean facilities, decently priced. The pool, playground, bathrooms, and basketball court were all open and well maintained," says Kristen L. about Tuxbury Pond RV Campground. Weekend programming typically runs from late June through Labor Day.

Tips from RVers

Site selection strategy: At Beach Rose RV Park, RVers appreciate the layout despite some limitations. "It's a 50 site campground and built 20 years ago, so it's cozy small sites in some spots. But for the money of your from out of state it's cheaper then the state park down the street and it has full hook-ups," explains 69seacoast. Most RV sites near Byfield accommodate units up to 35 feet, with limited availability for larger rigs.

Utility considerations: Water and electric hookups vary significantly between campgrounds. "Good sites, with water and 30 amp electric. Easy walk to the beach. Dog friendly, big dump site, and good prices," reports John O. about Salisbury Beach State Reservation. Sewer connections are less common at state park campgrounds, while private campgrounds typically offer full hookups.

Leveling requirements: Many coastal campgrounds feature sandy sites requiring minimal leveling. "Level concrete pad full hookups. Sites close together but quiet," notes Jackie M. about Beach Rose RV Park. Inland campgrounds often have more varied terrain that may require additional stabilization.
