Best Dog-Friendly Camping near Berlin, MD

Assateague State Park Campground and Assateague Island National Seashore Oceanside Campground both welcome pets throughout their camping areas, offering direct access to pet-friendly beaches on Assateague Island. Both campgrounds provide designated pet waste stations and require dogs to be leashed at all times. Sun Outdoors Frontier Town accommodates pets at all their accommodation types including tent sites, RV spots, cabins, and glamping options. Most campgrounds in the Berlin area enforce a standard leash policy limited to 6 feet, with some requiring proof of current vaccinations upon check-in. The campground includes picnic tables at pet-friendly sites for comfortable outdoor dining with your pet. Trap Pond State Park Campground, located about 45 minutes from Berlin, offers pet-friendly yurts and cabins with surrounding wooded trails ideal for dog walking. Many campgrounds provide shaded sites beneficial during summer heat, and camping loops with drinking water access for pets. Island Resort Campground maintains pet-friendly boat-in sites allowing campers to arrive with pets via watercraft. Veterinary services can be found within a 15-minute drive of most Berlin-area campgrounds, with emergency animal care available in nearby Ocean City.

    Love this place

What a great visit are having. Beautiful location with lots of space for everyone. Great beach and tiki bar. Pools for the family and very pet friendly. We stayed in the ‘big rig’ site within Club Castaway right on the water as we have a 40ft rig. Amenities are clean, staff friendly and helpful. Our dog, Daisy, loved the beach and the dog park and socialization w her pooch friends. Will be back.

    Pocomoke River State Park Campground

    Shads Landing Camping

I definitely had the best site on the block! Caddy corner from the bath house, but not so close to be disturbing, & it was very clean w/ nice hot water showers & spacious adjacent changing area with bench & lots of hooks to hang towel, clothes, etc. Well kept site with built up flat tent pad, (down side is limit 2 tents & must be on pad when there was plenty of room for several tents without an RV. ). Nice long picnic table with benches, fire ring is a safe distance from tent pad. There is a fish cleaning station w/ hook & all, for any who want to fish in the park lake. Can rent canoes/kayaks & there is a pool that I think has a lifeguard. Friends had a much smaller site next to mine & on the other side of them were our friends with a huge RV w/ pull outs, where we had plenty of room for twenty to cook breakfast & dinner, gather round the fire for s'mores & lounge in camp chairs & still had room for most of the tour bikes in "the driveway". Other friends had sites peppered around the loop and all said they were comfortable. A little spooky Thurs. night for this woman to camp alone before more campers arrived Fri, but all-in-all a nice place to camp in a forest with a lake that is far enough away , but not too far, from Berlin, Assateague Island, & Ocean City, MD. Best to have what you need before you get there because the camp store was closed & stores are not close enough to run out for toothpaste.

    Shad Landing Campground

In 40 years of camping, this is the best campground!

Beautiful camping spot with all the amenities. Loops with electric or no electric, Pet-friendly loops and non-pet friendly loops. I have been camping there off and on for 40 years first as a kid and now with my family. I love to go there every year at all seasons of the year. The best campground I've ever found in Maryland. Close proximity to both Ocean City and Assateague Island.

    Bring bug spray!

Great park, awesome amenities. Would definitely go back. Price is not cheap but the amenities make it worth it. Can’t wait until the zip lining courses are back open. Stupid COVID!

Bugs were crazy bad in the dog park and the moisture rich tent areas. Bring bug spray or a flame thrower.

    Shad Landing Campground

Close to the ocean without the cost of OC

Shad Landing, along with it’s sister park Milburn Landing, make up Pokomoke State Park. It’s just 45 minutes away from the beach at Assateague Island and an hour or so to Ocean City or Chincoteague. The sites are varied- some are more apt to hold smaller tents than larger ones, there are RV sites as well- cabins too. Each loop, with the exception of Waters Edge have full bathrooms with warm showers and flush toilets. Pets are allowed in some loops. The marina/ park office has a well stocked camp store as well as a kitchen that serves pizza and the like. Boat rental are available as well (try the canoe loop trail) There have been years when we stay here instead of hotels at OC- much cheaper and close to more than just commercial crap. Besides the beaches, it’s also close to the truly excellent NASA Wallops Island center that my kids thoroughly enjoy, as well as incredibly awesome food in nearby Berlin and Pocomoke City. Each site provides a picnic table and fire ring. Most have a lantern hook. In season there is a large swimming pool- free for campers. The nature center regularly holds programs and there are a few hiking trails here and in the nearby Pocomoke State Forest.

    Sun Outdoors Ocean City Gateway

Plenty of perks with little crowd!

This is our favorite campground! It is close enough to ocean city we can enjoy the beach daily but far enough to relax in the woods! This campground is the small sister campground to frontier town. They have a free shuttle bus to provide transportation to assateaque island, frontier town, and ocean city. Campers here are eligible for discounts at frontier town as well! We tent camp but there are RV sites and cabins as well. There is an arcade, camp store, heated pool, playground, dog park, and mini golfing! The main pavilion has rentals for recreational equipment at no extra cost (hula hoops, balls, etc.) There are also themed weekends and scheduled activities throughout the week! The bathhouses are cleaned many times a day and the showers are spacious enough. The staff here is friendly and welcoming. Each tent site is far enough away from the other that you feel spread out and private. This is definitely a place I recommend to friends and family.

    Sun Outdoors Ocean City

    Small but beautiful

    Site #271

Full hookups: 20/30/50 amp water & sewer

Very nice/small campground on the Sinepuxent bay. Gets very busy during the weekend, even though it's considered off season but people respect quiet hours. We could hear the live band perfectly from our site which we liked. Not too many planned activities but free shuttle to nearby Berlin & Ocean City.Short drive to all Ocean City has to offer. Clean bath houses and golf cart rental was an added bonus! Highly recommend our site to anyone with littles as you can literally relax at your site while your child plays at the playground! All sites included a fire ring with cooking grate and picnic table. Fairly easy to back in but they do have pull throughs available as well. Site was fairly spacious and campground is SUPER pet friendly!

Assateague Island National Seashore Oceanside Campground

    Best Beach Camping in Maryland

Wild horses, wide, clean stretches of beach, safe surroundings, close to town. This is the best beach camping in all of Maryland. Pros:

    • the beach is wide with plenty of room to stretch out and is much cleaner than that of OC and surrounding beach areas
    • the wild horses walk right up to your site!
    • almost glamping- water pumps, outhouses, showers on each loop- much appreciated after days of sand, sun, and sweat
    • pet friendly
    • fire rings at each site, bonfires on the beach

    Cons:

    • it's expensive! Sites average $30 per night AND each car is $20 to enter the park
    • reservations are practically mandatory- they book fast with little vacancy
    • this is a barrier island- mosquitos are legit. Bring bug spray with DEET. You should also expect little protection from the sun, so a canopy shelter may be helpful
    • lack of privacy- each site is only several feet from the next. Take a look at the map and book large group sites or several in a loop together for friends

Guide to Berlin

Assateague State Park Campground permits pets across its scenic drive-in and walk-in campsites, accommodating both tent and RV setups from April through October. Sun Outdoors Frontier Town, Sun Outdoors Ocean City, and Bayside Assateague Campground also welcome dogs, with designated pet areas and waste stations throughout the grounds. Assateague Island National Seashore Oceanside Campground allows leashed pets at campsites and along specific beach areas, providing convenient water access for dogs who enjoy swimming. Most campgrounds require pets to remain on leashes no longer than 6 feet when outside vehicles or tents. Campground pet policies generally limit pets to 2-3 per site with proper vaccination records required upon check-in. Bug spray is essential in moisture-rich tent areas where pets are permitted, particularly during summer months.

Frontier Town's pet-friendly sites are located within minutes of both Ocean City attractions and Assateague's wild pony habitat, creating unique wildlife viewing opportunities for campers with dogs. The campground's sites become muddy after rain, requiring preparation for wet paws. Shad Landing Campground in Pocomoke River State Park offers year-round pet camping with hiking trails suitable for dogs and access to water activities. Delaware Seashore State Park and Trap Pond State Park provide additional year-round camping options for travelers with pets, featuring well-maintained restrooms and shower facilities. These coastal campgrounds experience high winds and temperature fluctuations, making secure tie-outs and weather protection essential for pets. Veterinary services are available in Berlin and nearby Ocean City for emergency pet care during camping trips.
