TravelerWe ended up staying here for only one night as we were passing through but I would definitely come again. The road was a bit rough coming up but taking it slow, it was fine. Would definitely want a vehicle with clearance though. There were a lot of sites available for showing up at 3-4 pm on a Saturday afternoon. Nobody right next to us and was quiet through the night.

GuideI thought this was a great spot! Plenty of room, secluded and format was a better option than the BLM Land at the bottom of the hill. The dirt road was no problem. Plenty of room for the dogs. Please take your trash and have a poop plan. Don’t leave your crap behind. *pun intended.

TravelerGreat views, Milky Way was right above us, high ground clearance vehicles recommended, plenty of room for groups of RV’s, good distance between camping spots, but not completely secluded, great for riding ATVs and bikes, fire pits, bring extra water to ensure fire pit is fully out, check local fire bans, and tent camping bring a small portable gas stove with extra propane, no bathroom accommodations, first come, first serve, Free. It does get chilly at night, bring layers and good sleeping bags, Leave the planet better than when you found it and pack out all trash. Thank you, your fellow travelers.
GuideThis place was great. Lots of sites along the way up this mountain. I never saw another vehicle or person the entire time I was at my site. The only downfall is it was the worst mosquito encounter I have ever experienced in CO. Probably migrant mosquitos from Wyoming haha. It was also the first spot I went to that was stage 1 so I could have a fire in the pit.
GuideThis is a pretty incredible spot where you can get away. You will run across or have some off roaders or dirt bikers pass through, but that ceases as it gets later. Unfortunately, the creek was dry when I was there. Cool spot if you like quiet.
ScoutLater July 2026. I drive my 38 ft school bus south from the Kenosha Pass East campground area a few miles and found three designated numbered dispersed sites. Just beyond the third site I found a gate and had to back out a few hundred feet. I ended up staying in site 1, which was some tricky driving to get backed into with a large rig, but there was a ton of space. Rained all night and I saw a turkey with 2-3 chicks in the morning. Nice area but the site pull outs can be rough and some downed trees in the site need to be cleared. Solid option that’s free and more private than the nearby campgrounds.
TravelerWe arrived on a Wednesday in the hopes of having a good pick of dispersed sites. The reviews are accurate, the sites on the left of road are more level, the sites on the right are mostly for tents . We ended up with a great site, on the left. Bonus: sites on the left are next to the creek and it drowned out almost all sounds of nearby neighbors. We were willing to stay at the Cottonwood Lake campground if the sites were on the lake, but the campground is not on the lake so we opted for dispersed sites just past the campgrounds. The lake itself (Cottonwood Lake) is fabulous, there is no big parking lot, or large grassy area at all so you can’t fit many vehicles at the lake, making it impossible for it to get crowded (no motor crafts allowed). The no crowds made it AMAZING. There are 2 porta potties at the lake, but there was no up keep on them the entire time we were there (Wed -Sun), so be advised bring your own TP. We will def go back to the dispersed camping on the creek side. Also, we did see several tics while there. On one day there was a Moose in the lake, with her baby nearby in the brush, it was a fabulous site. Also just down the road several miles is the Cottonwood hot springs ($40 for 3 hours) which was fabulous, with 5 pools, a sauna and a cold plunge in the river.
