    Fiddlers Cove RV Park

Great RV Park - We love it!

Very clean and well maintained but rather small RV park collocated with a nice marina. This is a military installation so it’s not open to the public. This is our go to staycation place on San Diego bay. Close enough to Coronado but far enough to be secluded. 20/30/50 amp power, water, and cable TV connections on the pedestals. Most spaces are back-in, but some are pull-through. Pet friendly with disposal stations, and the park has a nice mini-mart.

    Mission Bay RV Resort

    Short and to the point

It’s a nice Rv resort. Big rig friendly pull through sites. Went Veterans Day weekend 2021 and the weather was perfect. Short walk to the water, De Anza Cove. The beach is a dog friendly after 4 p.m.

    Pechanga RV Resort

This Is A Resort With All Amenities

I spent a few nights using my Passport America discount at Pechanga RV Resort. I really liked it there. This is now one of my favorite RV resorts in California except for the showers. It is clean, well-maintained, concrete, level pads, full hookups, 168 site spaces, 20-30-50 amp power, 5 luxury spaces that The park itself is clean, well-maintained, concrete, level pads, full hookups, 168 site spaces, 20-30-50 amp power, 5 luxury spaces that is fenced in with gazebo, and picnic tables. First of all, it is part of the Casino with entertainment and restaurants. This casino reminds me of the Vegas casinos and now is under construction to make it a real Vegas Style Resort. It’s going to be finished sometimes in 2017.

The RV resort itself has a nice heated pool, Jacuzzi, ping pong table. They also have a golf club which could be important for some. One thing I hated is the showers. The RV resort shower has a timer set to 25 seconds and the showerhead is not able to stand upright. So you basically have to hold the shower in one hand and keep pressing the timer every 25 seconds. It’s December, it’s cold in the shower, especially because the water keeps shutting off. You end up standing soaking wet putting soap on yourself in the cold.

I wonder if the hotel rooms have timer on the showers as well. The person who came up with this idea should take showers in there each night. It pet-friendly resort, they also have an area for dogs. If you heading to the casino, they have a shuttle service 24/7 which picks ups from and drop-offs to and from your space. You have to call a number and they are there to pick you up in minutes.

About the WiFi! It’s the best WiFi ever in any parks I’ve so far visited! I wasn’t even close to the main building and had a great reception. I am able to use my Roku to watch Netflix and can use my laptop as well for work. I didn’t even need my Sprint or Verizon, but both work fine. Across the street, there is a 2-mile bike/walk trail. Using this and riding around the nice neighborhoods it was a fun way to get some exercise.

    Fiddlers Cove RV Park

    Military RV park

Water front back in sites, pull through sites, other back in sites not waterfront and two tent sites. Don’t book with the concierge service. Easier to call the campground itself. Cell service is great and they have WiFi. Clean restrooms with shower. Water, sewage and power hook ups (30&50 amp). Small store and a boat house you can rent stuff like kayaks and paddle boards from. Great hidden gem.

    Lake Jennings

    Hidden Gem

This place is truly a hidden gem. Just 30 minutes from San Diego, with friendly staff and partial or full hookups. We were in a preferred lake view site#96 which had water and electric hookups. There was a play area that had ladder golf, tetherball, and ping pong. Have extra guess? Have them reserve a Tipi that has a max of 6 people. We had thee bars on our Version service and the campground WIFI is one of the best I have seen camping. Lake Jennings has some supplies available as well such as ice, propane, firewood, etc. at reasonable prices. Bathrooms and showers are clean. There is a dump station in the campground, and I suggest checking out the best way to get into the dump station before taking your rig. there are several roads around the dump station but only one that takes you in straight without having to make a sharp turn and possibly having to back up. The lake is drinking water for the local town and therefore no swimming allowed but they do stock the lake with fish. Just a long walk or short drive to the other side of the Lake and you can go fishing or boating. I would not suggest checking in early. The road in is very narrow and if you arrive before the noon checkout time you may find yourself falling into the lake while trying to squeeze by another on coming RV or trailer.

Palm Canyon Hotel & RV Resort

Family Friendly Borrego Springs full with hookups

A nice little (120 spaces or so) full hookup (30 and 50 amp) campground.  We paid $289 for 5 nights. Clean, well maintained and full of families.  Very close to downtown and Anza-Borrego Visitor Center.  Spaces are good size, no problems fitting our 30' toy hauler towed by F250, and the park is well laid out and easy to drive. Checkin was fast and easy.  There are full time residents, but they are in a different section.  We used it as a base for hiking and off-roading at Octotillo Wells (both recommended, but bring as much water as you  can carry). The property has an old west theme, and there is also a hotel , laundromat and restaurant. If you have never visited this part of California, be advised that the wind here can be VERY intense, especially at night.  Also note that Borrego Springs is a dark sky community, so please be respectful and remember to look up and enjoy the stars.

Paradise By The Sea RV Resort

    Amazing RV Resort Near Beach

A nicely appointed RV resort in downtown Oceanside with an awesome staff. Pull-through and back-in, full hookup spots available. Cable, wi-fi, a clubhouse with TV and PlayStation for the kids, pool table, games to check out, and a small swimming pool and hot tub. There are also outdoor community areas with ping-pong, bean-bag toss, grills, and other activities.

The resort is only a 5- minute walk to the beach and not far from Oceanside restaurants and shops. While it’s a tad spendy, you really do get a lot for your money with a great near beach location.

    Thousand Trails Pio Pico

    Be Truthful

I’m new to RV’s, and the lifestyle. I’ve been planning on full time RV living for the last 10 months. Pio Pico is the 1st RV park I’ve stayed at. I was enjoying my quite solitude, when my closest neighbor told me, one of the workers has tested positive for Covid-19, so I hauled ass out of there. Luckily, I didn’t have any human contact whatsoever with anyone there during my stay. I have bronchial asthma, so I wasn’t taking any chances.
Too bad, because it felt remote, quiet, and was only a nice 7 mile drive from grocery stores, retail stores, food, gas, etc., if you needed anything. 30 amp, and water at site. Dumping area with two stations. Nice paths to hike, or walk your dog. Laundry was open, but only facility I used was the dump station. I didn’t get any TV reception, but others did. I didn’t have a powered antenna, but I do now. The internet was slow and iffy. They said they were working on it. I got to see a few shows on Netflix, Hulu, YouTube... No cell service at all, but I did get a little with my WeBoost. I wasn’t expecting much with mountains all around. I would have given another star, but keeping something like a worker testing positive for covid-19 from customers is not a good business idea. I’d probably give them another try though, since it had the seclusion I was looking for.

Guide to Escondido

RV camping near Escondido, California offers camping options within 20-30 miles of the city center. The area sits at elevations ranging from 600 to 1,800 feet with a Mediterranean climate that features warm, dry summers and mild winters. Highway access varies significantly between properties, with some campgrounds located directly off major routes while others require navigation through winding rural roads.

What to do

Swimming and recreation: At Sun Outdoors San Diego Bay, campers have access to extensive water activities. "Large pool area. Splash pad for the little ones, bar for the bigger ones, activities poolside and HUGE TV! Food service as well," notes one reviewer. The location offers marina access within walking distance.

Fishing opportunities: Some campgrounds feature private ponds for casual angling. A camper at Lilac Oaks Campground mentioned, "We stayed here next to the lake for a few days and just loved it." Catch-and-release fishing is available, with sunfish among the species reported.

Farm experiences: Less conventional camping can be found at smaller, agricultural properties. One visitor to Thompson Palms Campground shared, "My family and I had an excellent time at the Thompson's farm! We stayed a few weeks, hanging out with their cows and chickens! Their eggs are fantastic and so beautiful I almost didn't want to crack the shells!"

What campers like

Security features: Several RV parks in the Escondido area implement security measures that guests appreciate. At Ramona Oaks RV Resort, a reviewer noted, "Has a coded security gate which changes monthly" along with various recreational facilities.

Proximity to attractions: The strategic location between San Diego and inland destinations appeals to many visitors. A camper at San Diego RV Resort called it a "Great, affordable location." Others mention the convenience for visiting coastal attractions, casinos, and urban areas.

Winter camping conditions: The mild Southern California climate makes winter stays comfortable. One guest at Escondido RV Resort observed, "We arrived in the middle of Dec. It's a beautiful place and its kept immaculate. Staff is kind and professional. The grounds are layed out great. Its located close to alot of attractions."

What you should know

Highway noise levels: Traffic noise affects multiple properties in the region. A reviewer at Circle RV Resort stated, "Hwy 8 is right outside your door and very loud. Sites are adequate and if you have a pull through site you get a grill, however ours is out of gas!"

Age restrictions for RVs: Several parks enforce policies regarding older recreational vehicles. One guest noted, "Beautiful RV resort with short drives to the beach, San Diego, and casinos. Full hook ups, pool, dog walk. Little pricey and has RV age restrictions but I sent pics and was allowed even though I was outside the age."

Site leveling challenges: Uneven pads can create setup difficulties. A visitor to Olive Avenue RV Resort commented, "The park is basically new and well laid out for the size lot available. Paved surfaces and well maintained landscaping. We had a pull through site with full hook ups; it was on a cement pad that was nice, but the city made them slope all the pads for water drainage."

Tips for camping with families

Playground accessibility: Several campgrounds feature dedicated play areas for children. At Ramona Oaks RV Resort, a visitor observed, "They do have a nice playground for the kids." Another campground reviewer mentioned, "Great pool and kids playground."

Tent camping limitations: While most facilities primarily accommodate RVs, some offer limited tent sites. A camper at Oak Creek RV Resort described it as "Nice park with a reasonable price. Facilities are nice. A bit of a drive out of town." Tent sites often have specific limitations compared to RV spots.

Seasonal activities: Family camping experiences vary significantly by season. One camper shared, "Went camping in August, during a heatwave, and had Covid restrictions. Even with all of that, we had a good time! We were in spot 21 right by the pond." They added that they "definitely would camp there again when it isn't so hot!"

Tips from RVers

Site selection importance: Choosing the right space affects the overall experience. One RVer advised, "Be cautious about what site you select. We had #1 and it is so noisy that we had to buy a white noise machine. The freeway is close by and it seems having a really loud car or a motorcycle is a thing there."

Hookup reliability: Full service utilities function reliably even during adverse weather. A visitor to Olive Avenue RV Resort noted, "We stayed here a couple of nights to visit our son in Carlsbad near by. The staff was very welcoming and friendly, but the site we requested was never available according the to staff."

Pad dimensions: Site sizes vary considerably between properties. "Spots are the concrete and very big" at one location, while another camper noted, "Sites are narrow and close together, but this is the city in San Diego, not a spacious national park!" Space limitations affect larger units more significantly.
