Best Campgrounds near Fayetteville, AR

Fayetteville, Arkansas serves as a gateway to diverse camping experiences in the Ozark region, with options ranging from developed RV parks to cabin rentals and tent sites. Devil's Den State Park Campground, located in nearby West Fork, offers tent, RV, and cabin accommodations with full hookups and amenities like showers and picnic tables. Lake Wedington, though temporarily closed at the time of reporting, has historically provided lakeside camping with tent sites and cabin rentals just 15 miles from Fayetteville. The region includes several mixed-use campgrounds that accommodate both tent and RV camping, with Hog Valley RV & Treehouse Resort and Southgate RV Park providing convenient options within city limits.

Access to camping areas varies seasonally, with most campgrounds open year-round but experiencing different conditions throughout the seasons. "Beautiful park in the Ozarks National Forest close to the civilization in Fayetteville. Super quiet at night, there were about 18 campsites in the campground, all reservable," noted one visitor about Lake Wedington. Many campgrounds require reservations, particularly during University of Arkansas events when rates may increase substantially. Southgate RV Park, for instance, raises rates during graduation weekends. The terrain around Fayetteville features moderate hills and lake access, with some sites offering level concrete pads and others providing more natural settings with gravel roads and minimal amenities.

Campers report high satisfaction with sites near lakes and rivers, particularly at Lake Wedington where the "gorgeous park" offers "a beautiful lake with excellent fishing" according to visitor feedback. Several campgrounds provide convenient access to the Razorback Regional Greenway trail system, making them popular bases for cycling enthusiasts. As one camper described Southgate RV Park: "It was a great campground for exploring the food, drink, and shops of Fayetteville. Though it wasn't the most scenic campground, it was very convenient." Proximity to downtown Fayetteville remains a key selling point for many developed campgrounds in the area, while those seeking more natural settings can find lakeside camping at Prairie Creek or War Eagle Campground, both situated on Beaver Lake within 30 minutes of the city.

Beaver Dam Dive Shop and Resort

    Great optiion

Great campground with good staff. Some of the parking spots can be hard to pull into is you are in a mega sized rig amd dont know how to drive your set up. Its home for lots of scuba divers. Get to know them! Everyone is super friendly. Chickens ranging free on the property. Fresh eggs for sale. If you are the person who wants perfectly flat pads and want the Koa campground mega camper vibe this is not your spot. If you want to have a great campground with incredible sunset views stop on by. I recommend the concrete slab across from the dive shop. Grab your favorite drink from the dive shop. And make great memories! And get to know your fellow travelers.

Horseshoe Bend Rec Area & Campground

    Great for kids

I was in site 61, which was awful. Right in the middle of screaming kids in the lake on 1 side, screaming kids on the playground on the other side. The site was so tight my mini Van barely fit. No place to sit at the fire pit at all. The bath house toilet wouldn't flush and was full of shit. I left and parked at the local cracker barrel! So dissapointing!

    Rocky Branch Campground

Camp host was impossible to locate

Camp host was impossible to locate to get a parking pass. We looked for an hour and a half. The next morning she arrived angry we didn’t “put in more effort” very rude.

    Pine Hollow 1045 Dispersed Camping

    Beautiful remote primitive campsite

Excellent little campsite great for a couple tents at most we camped using a rooftop tent and it was a great spot. Very quite very clean unlike some other sites in the area. There is a second site just down the little pull off but it’s not level so would be a last resort. Don’t recommend bringing anything to large down the road camper van would be fine but would be difficult with a full size rig or towing anything much larger than a pop up. Enjoy!!

    Southgate RV Park of Fayetteville

    Perfect for a break

We stopped here for a two day break from driving and are pleased with the experience. There’s a shower house that is clean but well used, really spacious campsites and full hook ups. We took the bike trail that is super close and saw some beautiful scenery. The owner, Jerry, was super gracious and helpful and a delight to visit with. It’s no frills, but that’s what we enjoy. Would definitely stay here again.

    Aux Arc

    Beautiful Arkansas

Nice campground, although they are set up to cater to RVers. The RVs are quiet because they are using commercial power and not a generator. Me and my little tent are in the "Land of the Giants". Many fishermen out on Lake Dardanelle. Quiet after Labor Day camping.

Guide to Fayetteville

Camping sites near Fayetteville, Arkansas typically see moderate seasonal temperature shifts with summer highs in the 90s and winter lows in the 20s. Most camping areas within the Ozark region sit at elevations between 1,000-2,000 feet, providing both valley and ridge camping options. Several campgrounds remain operational year-round but with reduced services during winter months when water systems are winterized.

What to do

Disc golf excursion: Natural Falls State Park Campground offers an extensive disc golf course for camping enthusiasts. "Love this campground so much. Great spots with really level pads set in a beautifully treed park. Surrounded by disc golf, waterfalls, and hiking," notes Jennifer O., highlighting the recreational variety at this site located just across the Oklahoma border.

Waterfall hiking: The 77-foot waterfall at Natural Falls State Park Campground creates a focal point for visitors. According to Richard, "The hike to the bottom is fairly steep but there is a sidewalk that takes you to an overlook at the top." The park features 4.5 miles of hiking trails along the river where campers can find quieter spots away from crowds.

Lake activities: Beaver Lake provides extensive water recreation options at multiple campgrounds. Prairie Creek Campground includes dedicated facilities for families. One visitor explains: "There are nice recreational areas with play equipment, pavilions and beach volleyball. There is an area for swimming as well."

What campers like

Private wooded sites: Lake Wedington earns praise for its secluded camping spots. Erik R. comments, "Tons of trees throughout the campground. The sites are spread out and feel very private. Bathrooms and showers are clean too." The campground features approximately 18 sites with natural surroundings.

Proximity to bike trails: Southgate RV Park of Fayetteville provides convenient access to regional cycling infrastructure. Krystal T. notes, "We took the bike trail that is super close and saw some beautiful scenery." The Razorback trail network connects directly from the campground, offering miles of paved riding options.

Waterfront camping: War Eagle Campground provides sites with direct water access. One camper shared, "Great views, peaceful, epic jumping bluff into the water, fantastic people, awesome marina!!" This campground tends to be quieter than larger alternatives on Beaver Lake.

What you should know

Seasonal closures and maintenance: Some campgrounds undergo periodic closures. A recent visitor to Devil's Den State Park Campground reported: "Campground is currently (April 7) closed for maintenance and flooding. Call before you go!"

Limited services at certain sites: Many campgrounds offer partial hookups rather than full services. At Horseshoe Bend Rec Area & Campground, one reviewer noted: "Some sites have electric and water some just electric. Great for walking, riding bikes. And walking the dog."

Bathroom facility considerations: Facility quality varies significantly between campgrounds. Chelsea B. points out: "None of the sites have water hookups and the showers were awful. The stalls were filthy and too small so everything you bring with you gets soaked."

Rate increases during events: University functions significantly impact camping costs. One reviewer explained that Southgate RV Park normally charges "$38 nightly and $34 for Good Sam's members however; there are special event weekends where the rate is $50 for the weekend. This weekend is graduation weekend so the lot was full."

Tips for camping with families

Kid-friendly water options: Prairie Creek campground provides dedicated facilities for younger campers. "There are nice recreational areas with play equipment, pavilions and beach volleyball. There is an area for swimming as well," notes one visitor.

All-ages activities: Devil's Den State Park Campground receives consistent family recommendations. Melissa M. shares, "My favorite camping spot yet. Aside from the extreme humidity this was a great family getaway. Pool, great trails, and the creek/river kept my kids entertained and worn out!"

Playground access: Natural Falls State Park includes multiple play areas for children. Sean R. observes, "Our kids loved the two playgrounds. The weather was great. So we took a quick stroll through the woods and to the small waterfall nearby."

Tips from RVers

Site leveling challenges: Many campgrounds feature uneven pads requiring preparation. At Hickory Creek - Beaver Lake, Lisa M. advises: "Spaces 33 through 43 I would recommend only if you have a small bumper pull that is maybe less than 21 feet long or a class A or class C that's probably less than 25 feet long. Most of these spaces would be very difficult to get into."

Hookup limitations: RV campers should verify utility access when booking. At War Eagle Campground, one camper noted: "The electric at our site was way in front of the campter, about the distance of the front, right bumper of our truck. We had to go by a $50 extension cord to even hook up to the electric."

Weekly rate options: For extended stays, consider discount rates. "It's nicer and cleaner than the other parks. You pay a bit more but they also have weekly and monthly options," explains TJ W. regarding The Creeks Golf & RV Resort.
