      Oak Creek Mobile Lodge

      A hidden gem in Sedona

We have spent the last 5 nights in the OAK CREEK MOBILELODGE in Sedona Arizona. The good things: Location! Just blocks from all the good stuff in Sedona. Also, very nice private creek access to Oak Creek for people staying in the park. The free Sedona shuttle van picks up just outside the entrance to the park. The parking spots are fairly spacious with some nice mature tree coverage. There are several pull-through spots and back in spots too. The 50 amp electric worked well as we had unseasonably hot weather in the 90s. My ACs ran all day without issue. Water pressure was ok not strong but not weak. Each site has sewer access. There is a laundry, bathroom, shower facility. But we dont use those so i have no opinion. The owners live on-site and are out and about meeting people and are very helpful. The creek area is very nice with a beach area and some pools for swimming and wading. It is very quiet in the park. No traffic noise from the road and all the campers are polite and friendly. There is a nice paved bike, walking path at the entry to the park which goes for miles in both directions. Dog Friendly! Our dogs were 100% satisfied! The negative: There are several 1970s single wide trailers permanently located here. But, the inhabitants are working families or people of means as they all drive newer expensive vehicles. There are no trouble makers. No riff-raf types. We have been surrounded by people in $200k-$450k RVs If you want a nice quiet RV park very conveniently located in Sedona, you will be pleasantly surprised with Oak Creek Mobile Lodge. We would definitely return here!

      Thousand Trails Verde Valley

Nice campground unless you are in the low rent district

I was really looking forward to Cottonwood camp, outside of the Sedona area.  The campground had excellent reviews so we booked three nights.  There are many different sections of the park and your experience overall could be impacted by which site.  We were in site 141 close to the main activity room.  These sites are very packed and there are a lot of long-term guests and it looks like it.  The other sites throughout the park are better, especially the ones on the ridge with a view.

The other challenge was almost zero connectivity even using a hot spot.  I work remote so this was a challenge and I had to take work calls in the public lodge.  The lack of WiFi at all limited our other devices as well.  Not an option if you work on the road.

The area however has amazing natural beauty, parks and lots of hikes.  Some are dog-friendly, but some are not, so recommend checking.  The town of Sedona has changed over the years with many more tourists, traffic and high prices.  I would likely not return or stay somewhere more in nature, but with cell service as well.

Lakeview Campground (Az) — Coconino National Forest Recreation

Nice respite from the Sonoran Desert heat

In the off season, this sweet little national forest campground is a quiet oasis in one of the beautiful “islands of the sky” which are scattered throughout Arizona.  Up at 5000 feet, this place becomes a busy retreat for Tucsonians seeking to escape some of the summertime heat, according to the park ranger we spoke too. It's also a haven for birds!

The campground has designated section for RV’s and tents, though they are same price at just $10 per night.  Many pull-through sites are available for larger RV’s, as well as some back in spots. Each site has a HUGE cement picnic table and fire ring and are a nice size with plenty of space between sites. There are trash cans (though no recycling) throughout the campground, and a water spigot near the very clean pit toilets, thanks to the dedicated and very friendly camp hosts.  The tent sites overlook the Parker Canyon Lake and are quite spacious. There are few tent sites for groups too.

There is a nice boat dock, as well as small store near the water that sells snacks/drinks, bait, and a few camping necessities.  You can rent kayaks, paddle boats, SUPs, sailboats and small motorized fishing boats…or bring your own. There is also a nice and easy trail that follows the lake shore for about 6 miles, accessible to both hikers and mountain bikers.  From the lake trail, you can also access the Arizona Scenic Trail (the southern terminus is about 15 miles south of the lake). We also saw quite a few fisherman out enjoying the lake during mid-week.

The closest grocery stores and gas stations are in Sonoita, about 30 miles away.  Cell coverage is limited here as you are very close to the Mexican border – none in RV campground, just a bit of coverage in the tent campground.

      Village Camp Flagstaff

      An experience in itself!

RV or tiny homes…this place is AMAZING. We were in the RV side very clean, level elite back in with a concrete patio. Picnic table AND propane fire pit provided. The clubhouse has a bar and grill with a GIANT patio, live music, a store, heated pool and spa, a large game lawn and trails behind. Backs up to a national forest. Bathrooms and laundry clean and convenient. Well organized and friendly staff. Cons: trains in the distance and some interstate noise but that’s to be expected. The camp is NOT right up on the interstate you just can see it from various sections of the camp. We only had one neighbor at our site since it was on the end which was nice. Would DEFINITELY stay again.

      Sedona View RV Resort

Amazing Views of Sedona Red Rocks

The Sedona View RV Resort is a really clean and safe Park. The Staff is friendly and help you any way they can. They have Full Hookups with 30 & 50 amp service. They do charge a KWH fee for electric for a monthly stay. However their monthly charge is NOT high like other Resorts in Camp Verde.

They have a shower and laundry house. As of March 2021 showers are still closed due to Covid 19. Laundry is open.

Most sites are level but there are some on the outer parameter that you’ll have to work a little magic. Inner sites are fine.

If you like hiking, this is right next to the National Forest with a trailhead right in the Park.

Quiet at night. Watch the moon rise over the mountains.

      Verde Ranch RV Resort

A Good Basecamp to explore Sedona

I typically rate campgrounds as they fit into 1 of 5 categories. This campground will be rated as a Basecamp — grounds that offer a comfortable home base that you’re happy to return to after a day of exploring the surrounding area. Ratings for this category are based on: Value to cost: 4 Overall grounds: 4 Utility of sites (hookups, layout, accessibility): 3 Local Attraction Proximity: 5 Reservation Process/Ease of Getting a Site: 5 Amenities: 5 Customer Service: 4 Cleanliness: 4

Verde Ranch RV Resort is a newer RV campground located about 30 minutes South of Sedona. It offers lots of amenities including a big, lovely pool, laundry facilities, a decent sized workout room, a community center, pickle ball courts and more. In the age of COVID, a lot of these amenities are closed or restricted but we were able to use the pool on our visit. They offer different levels of sites based on price but we didn’t see much differentiation based on the price levels. We chose a covered site through their easy online reservation system as we were visiting in the dead of summer. We weren’t super stoked on our selection once we arrived. Our hookups were in the very far back corner of the space so we needed to choose between a small sliver of shade provided by the solar cover or the reach of our dump hose. Not ideal. We seemed to be in one of very few spots with this weird location for hookups. The end spots of the shaded area are hardly covered so it might not be worth it to you because these spots are pretty close together with no privacy in between sites. All sites seemed nicely wide enough to allow slide outs and big rigs. Plants between sites are all very newly planted and so don’t offer privacy yet.

From what we were able to access, the grounds seemed very clean and well maintained. The online reservation process was easy though it was hard to get ahold of the office prior to and upon self-check in. Staff we did encounter were friendly and, though there are a lot of rules, there was no policing.

The biggest draw for these grounds was proximity to Sedona (30 min), Montezuma’s Castle (10 min) and Tuzigoot (25 min). We enjoyed a visit to all 3 within our 2-day stay. We enjoyed our stay and the awesome pool in the desert heat but next time we might opt to stay a little closer to Sedona.

      Pine Flat Campground West

      Well spaced and beautiful scenery

Simple yet clean and comfortable. Only have bathrooms, no showers or wifi but cell coverage is 5g 3bars with Verizon. Only real downside is the noise from the traffic but given we are in a Canyon less than a 3/4 of mile wide... Can be expected. Oh.. And no big rigs.. My travel trailer is 23 feet and I barely fit in a few spots.

      Grand Canyon Camper Village

Close to the south rim with few cons

Absolutely perfect to get in and out of the Grand Canyon south rim. Only one mile from the entrance. Great small town just outside the campground too. Quant shops, Starbucks, IMAX, airport, and restaurants. We got a full hook up pull through. Hook ups were adequate at best. Showers and restrooms were disgusting, but we did not use them. Absolutely no WiFi, cable or reception. They do rent movies for $1.00, but limited old copies. Site 51 needed a lot of leveling, but had a fire ring. Absolutely loved the elk coming most mornings, and mustangs in evenings. The National forest area behind the park, was good hiking. Trailer Park with some sketchy characters walking around was attached to the campground. Overall for four days it was ok, especially given how close it was to the park!

      Forest Road 302

      302 right at Tusayan

Really great area. TONS OF CHOICES. Felt safe and was easy for my pop up and even big rigs. Gorgeous and quiet and super close to Grand Canyon. Only negative is occasional helicopter tours fly low.

    Guide to Williams

Williams, Arizona offers RV parks at an elevation of 6,800 feet with cooler temperatures than lower desert regions. Located near the southern entrance to Grand Canyon National Park, Williams camping options range from full-hookup RV resorts to budget-friendly campgrounds with varying amenities. Most Williams RV parks remain open year-round despite seasonal temperature fluctuations.

    What to do

Train excursions to Grand Canyon: The Grand Canyon Railway makes daily trips from Williams to the South Rim. Grand Canyon Railway RV Park guests can coordinate RV stays with train tickets. "We came to ride the Grand Canyon Railroad, the RV check-in was linking clarity on how we completed our check-in for the train to the Grand Canyon. We had to figure the check-in process on our own," notes William L.

Visit historic Bedrock City: Located at Raptor Ranch RV Park & Campground, this Flintstones-themed attraction offers nostalgic appeal. "Kids loved it, great halfway point to the Grand Canyon to spend the day, bed rock city and raptor tour was great, even Fred's diner has good quality food," says Lorena V.

Bird of prey demonstrations: Raptor Ranch hosts educational demonstrations three times daily. One visitor mentioned, "When we thought a falcon show was going to happen but they weren't on that night, the guy willingly let us watch him practice with one of his falcons."

    What campers like

Clean, modern facilities: Railside RV Ranch maintains spotless restrooms and showers. "Friendly and informative staff. Clean warm restrooms (stayed during March). Lots of hot water. Mini gym if needed. Close to historic district," reports Dickie Simmons S.

Dog-friendly amenities: Many Williams RV parks accommodate pets with specialized facilities. Railside RV Ranch offers "a nice dog park that is along the Grand Canyon railroad track," according to David M., while another campground provides a dog wash station with "raised tub with hand shower."

Train-watching opportunities: The Grand Canyon Railway passes through several campgrounds. "The Grand Canyon train goes right by the RV park. You can also purchase train tickets to the Grand Canyon through them when you book your stay," explains Billy W. about The Canyon Motel & RV Park.

    What you should know

Train noise varies by location: Freight trains run through the night in some areas. "The BNSF train goes through all night long without regard to schedule. I'm sure it affects the whole town, just be prepared for the horn blaring and train cars click-clacking by," warns Jason M.

Policy changes affect large RVs: Some parks have recently modified their acceptance policies. Canyon Gateway RV Park visitor Travis B. cautions, "Even though the website says they accept large RV's they don't. New policy is what I was told, despite an email conversation where our trailer length was mentioned."

Seasonal temperature swings: Williams experiences significant temperature variations, with winter lows dropping below 15°F. One camper noted, "With temperatures below 15 degrees, we are happy to have hookups to run our space heater!"

    Tips for camping with families

Mini-golf and playgrounds: Several Williams RV parks include kid-friendly recreation areas. "It has a small playground and mini golf, and the Grand Canyon train goes by a few times a day which our toddler enjoyed," shares Allison M.

Pet kenneling for train excursions: Distant Drums RV Resort provides convenient solutions for families with pets. "They even have a kennel on site so if you take the train you can kennel your dog," notes one visitor.

Hotel amenities access: Some RV parks share facilities with adjacent hotels. "There is also a hotel that the property owns and you are welcome to use the hotel amenities if you are a guest in the RV park," explains one reviewer, mentioning pool access that children particularly enjoy.

    Tips from RVers

Leveling considerations: Most sites require minimal adjustment. "The pavement on which the RV was leveled was pretty much level so we didn't need to make any adjustments," reports Michael A. from Grand Canyon Railway RV Park.

Winter hookup benefits: Full hookups become essential during colder months. "We rode the train, visited the hotel pool, used the dryer, and enjoyed the town immensely. The RV area is paved with full hook up utilities easily accessible," states Jason M.

Early arrival benefits: Pine View RV Military Camp Navajo and other parks may accommodate early arrivals. "Check in was at 1:00 pm. They allowed us to come in at 12:00 pm. 25 mile an hour winds today," notes Robert W., appreciating the flexibility during challenging weather conditions.
