    North Ranch

    Good for One Night

North Ranch is an Escapees RV park with large gravel lot and closely spaced sites. Full hook up with only 30 amp available. There is also another area for dry camping. This is a good place if just passing through and need to do some laundry and dump and fill and take a nice long shower. The sites are fairly close as most RV parks are, clean flat gravel sites. Nothing special but nothing much to complain about either.

Road noise was constant as was ATV use as many of the campers had them. Covid restrictions in place and a mask is required.

    Amenities:

2 laundry areas with washer dryers for$1.25/each open 24/7

Dog walk and fenced in dog park near the main road

Showers Cactus garden walking area- very beautiful and well care for

    Propane on site

    Recycling bin- mixed recycling accepted

    Garbage dumpster

Dump station(was closed when we were there)

    Exercise room

Back in sites are$23 for escapee members and$28 for non members. Pull through sites are a few dollars more.

Weak Verizon and AT&T with occasional streaming if you don’t mind waiting for buffering.

    Leaf Verde RV Resort

    Clean RV park

Easy to get to from the 10 freeway, good sized RV park w decent sized sites, park is kept clean, pool, Pickleball courts, cornhole area, dog park, huge laundry room, and the people are nice. Regular pull through spots are kind of like buddy spots as your doors face each other. Back in and deluxe sites are decent sized. Roadways are asphalt and large enough to maneuver bigger rigs through. All sites are full hook up w 30 & 50 amp electrical.

    Budget RV Park

Now called Sundance West RV Resort

I think if you're  looking for a place to winter, this is a good Campground.

Pros: Very clean, nicely landscaped for AZ, staff friendly, good grocery & dining options nearby. Lots of OTA channels, pool, corn hole, laundry, dog park, activities  etc.

Cons: pull through was long, but not quite level, WIFI does not reach the pull through sights in the back at all .... and they know it. Couldn't figure out how to hook to their cable. Permit to wash your rig $10 for the season.

Guess that should have been our first clue... they have a season. Sort of winter camp for snowbirds. If that is what you are looking for, it is very nice.

We were in the area to visit friends, dump/pump/resupply after boondocking, and do Taxes. Not having wifi was kind of a big deal for us. Being told we'd have to use the internet in the clubhouse wasn't  going to cut it. Who wants to drag all their personal financial information to a common area?

Normally  it would not have been a big deal, we do have a Hotspot, but at $431 weekly rate, $80 nightly, in this day & age, routers for wifi to the whole park should be a given.

Otherwise we did enjoy our stay here, and met some great people.

Old Airstrip Camping & Staging Area

    Free and Beautiful!

We have a 4WD truck, so we were able to get past most of the RVs and toy haulers, but they all seemed like family friendly people! The burros are no joke! You can hear and see them all around you. We also heard a few coyotes right after dusk which was cool. We had our two dogs with us and just kept them on the leash so we had no negative cactus experiences... Overall, a really cool place to be even if you don’t have an OHV. We got in around 6PM and were able to find a secluded spot with a fire ring already there, no problem.

    White Tank Mountain

    Peaceful retreat

This park is so close to town, but far enough to get some quiet night sky! There are standard campsites and a more primitive camping area. The Willow Canyon site is big enough for a full length Sprinter, though the office says 16’ is the length limit.

Lots of trails for hiking, biking and horses. Brand new showers, restrooms and a dishwashing area. Dogs allowed too!

I’m on Verizon and only got a single bar in the park. The library is near the entrance if you need to get your WiFi fix!

    McDowell Mountain Regional Park

    Great sites with great views!

Very quiet! Lots of hiking and bike riding trails with a bike course! Playground. Pet friendly. Very clean and friendly hosts. Close to fountain hills if you need anything in town. Close to town but very much felt like you where away on vacation no hustle bustle in the desert! The views where fantastic. Sites where clean and spacious a lot of space between each site for privacy! Will definitely be back!

    Monte Vista RV Resort

This park really lives up to its Name “Resort”

My wife and two mini-Daschunds stayed in a 40 ft Fifth Wheel. All the sites are back-in but all have concrete parking pads and patio. Gravel surrounds each campsite and we have noticed maintenance crews raking the gravel every other day. Close to all the fun stuff on the Superstition Mountains. This park is associated with a very large senior retirement village. All amenities you would expect and meticulously maintained. All the staff that we came in contact with was very nice and helpful. You can’t go wrong staying at this park

    White Tank Mountain

Close to town, yet far enough away for hiking and relaxing

Another Maricopa County parks campground which is great for hiking and relaxing.

Very well taken care of. The park has beautiful hiking trails and a great nature center, which offers activities and the regional library. There are a couple of playgrounds in the park as well.

Some hiking trails are within walking distance of the campground, others you will need to drive to.  Maricopa trail runs through the park.

The campground itself is very clean, including the restrooms and showers. It is quiet and the campsites all have electric and water hookups, picnic table and fire pit. Sites are far enough from each other so it doesn't feel crowded. Not much vegetation on the campground itself, so sunshine in abundance.

    Maricopa County Park Lake Pleasant

    Enjoyable time

Camped 5 nights at the desert tortoise campground in my NoBo travel trailer. Semi developed so no hook ups. Bathrooms were clean and the area was well kept. The spot includes a ramada with picnic table. There is also a fire ring pit w/ grill which you’ll need to bring firewood for. I fished off the shoreline which was only a few hundred feet from my spot. The spots are relatively close to each other and tent camping is also allowed. Water is clear and very nice. Wild donkeys from old miners back in the day still roam around. They are very accustomed to humans so won’t hesitate to steal food. Definitely something to watch pets around as well.

Guide to Sun City

Recreational vehicle parks near Sun City, Arizona accommodate motorhome camping throughout the year, with most facilities open during winter months when temperatures average 65-70°F during daytime. The region sits at approximately 1,100 feet elevation in the Sonoran Desert landscape. Most RV parks maintain full hookup capabilities including water, sewer, and electrical connections, with varying site configurations to accommodate different vehicle sizes.

What to do

Boating and water recreation: Pleasant Harbor RV Resort provides water-based activities at Lake Pleasant with shuttle service for equipment. "Free shuttle to haul kayak to boat ramp. Great sunsets," notes Margaret T., who recommends booking "a spot up on cliff overlooking the water." The resort offers multiple camping options including dry camping areas when hookup sites fill up.

Golf access: Pueblo El Mirage 55+ RV Resort includes an 18-hole golf course on the property with associated bar and grill facilities. "This is a self described 5 star RV long stay park. It has Almost every amenity you can think of," mentions Randall Z., noting the park transitions toward permanent residences but maintains RV accommodations.

Swimming and fitness: Multiple Sun City area RV parks maintain year-round pool access. "Large clean spots. All spots are fenced descent pool and small store if you need anything," reports Bryan S. about Pleasant Harbor. RV resorts typically include additional recreational facilities like pickleball courts, shuffleboard, and fitness centers that remain operational throughout winter months.

What campers like

Well-maintained facilities: Leaf Verde RV Resort receives positive reviews for upkeep and management. "Clean RV park with decent sized sites, park is kept clean, pool, Pickleball courts, cornhole area, dog park, huge laundry room," explains Dawn F., adding that "roadways are asphalt and large enough to maneuver bigger rigs through."

Resort amenities: Many parks function more like activity centers than traditional campgrounds. "This park has it all..Run by professionals. They even escort you to your space. Facilities are great, they have all of them, lit paved walkways, large spaces, wifi works," Kenneth B. shares about Leaf Verde RV Resort. Facilities typically include organized activities, laundry rooms, and community gathering spaces.

Winter climate: RV campers frequently mention the favorable winter conditions. "We loved this park in the Arizona Desert. Close to everything, yet set up to feel like you're in your own little village," comments Lyf Uninterrupted about Encore Mesa Spirit, noting the "three pools, multiple hot tubs and modern showers and laundry rooms" make it popular during cooler months when northern states experience freezing temperatures.

What you should know

Age restrictions: Many Sun City area RV parks maintain 55+ age requirements. "I am 52 and wasn't allowed there. Unbelievable," reports Danielle R. about Pioneer RV Resort. Similar feedback comes from Vinay M. about Sunflower RV Resort: "55 and older resort. Not sure how to rate it, but it should be listed somewhere that it's not family friendly."

Site spacing: RV sites tend to maintain practical but limited spacing. "Sites are gravel and close together but the CG is clean and patrolled frequently by folks on golf carts," notes Ray & Terri F. about Desert Shadows RV Resort. Similarly, at Leaf Verde, Debbie H. observes: "This is a huge park. 1365 sites. Crammed in pretty tight, but fairly clean and very nice staff."

Ambient noise: Certain locations experience regular noise from transportation corridors. "There's a train that goes by at least five times a day and night and a freeway just a few blocks away. So it's not super quiet, however, the noise hasn't really bothered me either," mentions Cheri H. about Sundial Mobile & RV Park. At Pioneer RV Resort, Courtesy Reviews notes: "There is a shooting range near by. People and pets with issues hearing gun/rifle shots during the day should be aware, you can hear the shots being fired."

Tips for camping with families

Child policies: Family camping requires advance verification of age policies. "When she showed up, she was told she would have to leave as children were not welcome. They should've caught this in the reservation information weeks in advance," warns Nadine A. about Encore Mesa Spirit. Contact RV parks directly before booking to confirm current family accommodation policies.

Pool and recreation access: Facilities with family-friendly policies typically maintain recreational amenities. "Pool was a great bonus for our family after a long day of driving," notes Mikki S. about Leaf Verde RV Resort, which allows children and offers well-maintained facilities including a laundry room described as "one of the nicest we've ever used!"

Lake Pleasant alternatives: For families seeking water recreation without age restrictions, Pleasant Harbor offers multiple camping configurations. "There are several different RV/Camping options at Pleasant Harbor Marina / RV Resort: In the resort with Full Hookups, Out on the flat with just water and power (dump station on site), Out on the flat with no hookups (can also tent/car camp)," explains Robert G., noting its "party atmosphere" differs from more restricted facilities.

Tips from RVers

Overnight options: Desert Shadows RV Resort accommodates transient RVers in dedicated areas. "This is a big resort and comprised mostly of permanent residents with a central pull-through area for transients," notes Ray & Terri F., adding: "If you're a Class A or C towing, you'll probably have to drop to to access the hookups, as they are at the back end of the pull-throughs, not toward the middle as they usually are."

Hookup configurations: Site layouts vary between parks, affecting setup procedures. "All sites are full hook up w 30 & 50 amp electrical," explains Dawn F. about Leaf Verde's configuration. For pull-through sites, Debbie H. notes: "Most of the sites are pull thru so that's a bonus," though proximity to neighbors remains tight in most facilities.

Network connectivity: Cell service and wifi quality differ between locations. "AT&T coverage was quite good, with 2-3 Bars of 5G+ service and speeds up to 23 MB/s. The CG WiFi was pretty decent as well, with speeds up to 4 MB/s, but varied depending on congestion," reports Ray & Terri F. about Desert Shadows. At Pleasant Harbor RV Resort, Justin M. notes the on-site convenience store "was a cool feature saving me from having to drive 20min to get some drinks."
