    Sonoran Desert RV Park

    Well maintained and very friendly

Important: If you plan to arrive after hours you must call ahead so you can get the gate code. They gave us a temporary spot that was pull thru due to the time of our late arrival. Then at noon they escorted us to our site to set up for the duration of our visit. I included an images of daily, weekly, and monthly rates for 2023 and full list of amenities and the winter activities. There are also deluxe sites available. This camp ground is pet friendly with a dog park area and offered daily planned activities. We participated in game night, line dancing classes, aquatic aerobics in the heated pool, and the New Years party. The showers are very clean and the laundry room was immaculate. The sites have full hook up 30/50 amp and sites up to 100'x55'. They offer propane services. There isn't anything to do in the town.

    Sonoran Desert RV Park

    Great Experience

Our RV GPS and Waze took us right to this very nice campground(CG). Check-in was quick, and we were escorted to back-in site 503 with FHUs. The sites here are long and wide enough for our 40’ fifth wheel and F450 truck. The sites in our area were also decently spaced for a private CG. There was also room for an OHV if we’d brought one. The guest WiFi works pretty well with a download of 6.73 and an upload of.92. Water pressure was good at 50 psi, and we got 4 bars on Verizon. There are a few trees in the CG, but we had a clear shot of the northern sky for Starlink. They also have cable, but we didn’t use it. They had a very nice 4000 sq ft, sectioned-off dog park with two of the areas/corrals having grass. Behind the show/laundry/pool facility is where you drop off your propane tank for fills. They do not have a propane service that comes to the site. We were also impressed with their PETHouse sites where you have a private dog run. Their laundry facility was larger than most CGs of this size and it was very clean. There’s also a wash pad where you can wash your OHV or truck. Gilla Bend has a Family Dollar and a couple of small grocery stores plus eating establishments. You’re about 30 minutes from major amenities in Buckeye and an hour from Phoenix. We stayed here with friends for 4 nights and enjoyed ourselves.

    Leaf Verde RV Resort

    Clean RV park

Easy to get to from the 10 freeway, good sized RV park w decent sized sites, park is kept clean, pool, Pickleball courts, cornhole area, dog park, huge laundry room, and the people are nice. Regular pull through spots are kind of like buddy spots as your doors face each other. Back in and deluxe sites are decent sized. Roadways are asphalt and large enough to maneuver bigger rigs through. All sites are full hook up w 30 & 50 amp electrical.

    Sonoran Desert RV Park

Very nice spread out park to relax for the night

We stayed here one night and would recommend it for anyone wanting to enjoy the night skies, having some distance between RV pull in's, and relax while driving cross country.

The staff was welcoming and showed us to our sites and ensured we hooked up with no issues.  Then, let us enjoy the night.

The dog run was great and well maintained.  We thought he pet rock cemetery was touching (passed on pets have rocks with their names on them laid out in a small memorial).

We had a pull through full hook up site.  The site was required minor leveling, but no need to unhook. Wifi worked great.  There was road and rail noise though.

We are not sure if there are really any local attractions.

    White Tank Mountain

    Peaceful retreat

This park is so close to town, but far enough to get some quiet night sky! There are standard campsites and a more primitive camping area. The Willow Canyon site is big enough for a full length Sprinter, though the office says 16’ is the length limit.

Lots of trails for hiking, biking and horses. Brand new showers, restrooms and a dishwashing area. Dogs allowed too!

I’m on Verizon and only got a single bar in the park. The library is near the entrance if you need to get your WiFi fix!

    White Tank Mountain

Close to town, yet far enough away for hiking and relaxing

Another Maricopa County parks campground which is great for hiking and relaxing.

Very well taken care of. The park has beautiful hiking trails and a great nature center, which offers activities and the regional library. There are a couple of playgrounds in the park as well.

Some hiking trails are within walking distance of the campground, others you will need to drive to.  Maricopa trail runs through the park.

The campground itself is very clean, including the restrooms and showers. It is quiet and the campsites all have electric and water hookups, picnic table and fire pit. Sites are far enough from each other so it doesn't feel crowded. Not much vegetation on the campground itself, so sunshine in abundance.

    Maricopa County Park Lake Pleasant

    Enjoyable time

Camped 5 nights at the desert tortoise campground in my NoBo travel trailer. Semi developed so no hook ups. Bathrooms were clean and the area was well kept. The spot includes a ramada with picnic table. There is also a fire ring pit w/ grill which you’ll need to bring firewood for. I fished off the shoreline which was only a few hundred feet from my spot. The spots are relatively close to each other and tent camping is also allowed. Water is clear and very nice. Wild donkeys from old miners back in the day still roam around. They are very accustomed to humans so won’t hesitate to steal food. Definitely something to watch pets around as well.

    Lake Pleasant Regional Park Campground

One of my favorite RV campgrounds.

I camped for 5 nights in the Roadrunner campground of Lake Pleasant.  I had a site overlooking the lake and it was fantastic.  Easy to get my 39' toy hauler in and room enough that I didn't have to unhook and could even put out my rear ramp as a deck.

Great view, easy to back in site (watch for the picnic table awning!), good power and water, no sewer (although there's a dump site nearby) and no WiFi.

    I'll definitely go back.

    White Tank Mountain

    Convenient to Phoenix

General: Located less than an hour from Phoenix, this campground is an easy getaway. There are two campgrounds: The Family Campground (40 sites) with water and 30/50 amp electric hookups and the more“rustic” Willow Canyon Campground (19 sites) with no hookups. This campground is good for tents, campervans, or small (16 feet or less) trailers. There was a gate attendant when we checked in around 6 pm on a Monday and we were given an information packet with information on the campground, nearby facilities in the town of Surprise, and trails, which was very helpful considering we were not familiar with the area.

Site Quality: We stayed in the Family Campground so we could take advantage of the electric hookups. The sites are gravel, a good size, well-maintained, and spaced a decent amount of distance apart. Some are pull-through and some back-in. In addition to the aforementioned water and electric hookups, each site also has a picnic table, bbq grill, and fire pit. Some have covered picnic shelters but not all. Most of these also have space for tents.

Bathhouse: Is located in the center of the loop and was clean. Sites on the inside have paths leading to the bathhouse but if you are on the outside of the loop, access is via a path between sites 34 and 36 or sites 11 and 13. Three stalls, one sink, and one shower. One sink is not really adequate for 40 sites, but I did not encounter more than one other person at a time. Soap dispenser, rack, and air dryer. The way the water faucets are is wasteful: once you turn them on, they run for quite some time before turning off. Hot water was appreciated. Did not use the shower so cannot comment on that.

Activities: Several hiking trails. The most popular one is the waterfall trail, but you need to drive to the trailhead for this. It is paved for the first half mile (shortly after the petroglypghs) and then it is a rocky, gravel path. The waterfall only runs after heavy rain (I would think this would make access very challenging). There was water in the “pool” and it is scenic so it was worthwhile to go despite no running falls. There are restrooms, a picnic area and a playground near this trailhead. Some of the other trails are used by mountain bikers or horseback riders. The information you receive at check-in details the usage for each trail.

This campground was mainly an overnight as we continued to head west but I am glad we took the time to hike the waterfall trail before leaving. If you need groceries or other supplies, the town of Surprise, about 8 miles to the east, would have everything you need. Note there is a nearby air force base and you will hear jets flying by, although this was during daylight hours.

Guide to Arlington

RV camping options near Arlington, Arizona include several parks within 30-45 minutes' driving distance. The area sits in the Sonoran Desert with summer temperatures often exceeding 110°F from June through September, making winter the peak season for camping visits. Most parks enforce strict quiet hours from 10pm to 7am during busy season.

What to do

Water recreation at Lake Pleasant: Pleasant Harbor RV Resort offers easy access to Lake Pleasant with boating, fishing, and swimming opportunities. "Lake swimming not your thing? Pool available with showers and store. Well managed and great family summer fun," notes Marc S. The resort provides a shuttle service to transport kayaks to the boat ramp, making water activities accessible.

Golfing options: Pueblo El Mirage RV Resort features an 18-hole golf course on-site with a bar and grill. "This is a self described 5 star RV long stay park. It has Almost every amenity you can think of. The park is slowly being converted to all homes," according to Randall Z. Many winter visitors stay specifically for the golfing opportunities.

Local exploration: From Sonoran Desert RV Park, guests can explore the surrounding desert terrain. "You're about 30 minutes from major amenities in Buckeye and an hour from Phoenix," mentions MickandKarla W. The area offers desert hiking trails and wildlife viewing opportunities in cooler months.

What campers like

Clean, well-maintained facilities: Pleasant Harbor RV Resort receives high marks for cleanliness. "Large clean spots. All spots are fenced descent pool and small store if you need anything. Strong WiFi. Kids were able to zoom without any issues," reports Bryan S. Many visitors appreciate the upkeep of shower buildings and common areas.

Dog-friendly amenities: Sonoran Desert RV Park offers dedicated pet areas. "3 separate secure areas with large grass areas in two of them. My pup had so much fun. They have water, toys and baggies readily available," writes Melinda R. The park's dog facilities exceed what many RV parks typically offer.

Spacious sites: Many parks provide adequate space between sites. "The sites here are long and wide enough for our 40' fifth wheel and F450 truck. The sites in our area were also decently spaced for a private CG," notes MickandKarla W. Site dimensions and layout often determine guest satisfaction more than other amenities.

What you should know

Age restrictions: Some parks limit stays to older adults. At Encore Paradise RV, "At least one person travelling and staying in any unit must be able to show proof of age 55 or older," according to Staci R. Always check age policies before booking.

Pet policies vary significantly: Cotton Lane RV Resort has strict breed restrictions. Jeff H. reports, "We went through the extensive application to stay a night and then called back and were told we could not have a reservation because our dog was 'mixed'...if our dog was a purebred Lab she would be permitted."

Winter is peak season: RV sites near Arlington, Arizona fill quickly from November through March. Rates increase during these months, and advanced reservations become essential. Some parks offer monthly winter rates ranging from $600-1200 depending on location and amenities.

Noise considerations: Proximity to transportation routes affects some parks. "The night was loud here, roosters crowing (all night!), dogs barking, trains, and cars," reports Laura M. about Palms Mobile Home RV Park. Research location carefully if seeking quiet surroundings.

Tips for camping with families

Look for pool facilities: Destiny Phoenix RV Resorts offers family-friendly water recreation. "Great hookups and space between neighbors," notes Steve P., while Missy C. adds, "Pretty pool and hot tub. People are very friendly and helpful."

Consider laundry access: Leaf Verde RV Resort provides excellent laundry facilities. "The laundry facility was one of the nicest we've ever used! Pool was a great bonus for our family after a long day of driving," says Mikki S. Adequate laundry facilities become essential during multi-day family stays.

Wi-Fi performance: While many parks advertise Wi-Fi, performance varies greatly. At Pleasant Harbor RV Resort, Bryan S. notes, "Strong WiFi. Kids were able to zoom without any issues." Parks with reliable internet service allow children to complete schoolwork during extended stays.

Tips from RVers

Site selection matters: Choose sites based on specific needs. At Leaf Verde RV Resort, Dawn F. explains, "Regular pull through spots are kind of like buddy spots as your doors face each other. Back in and deluxe sites are decent sized. Roadways are asphalt and large enough to maneuver bigger rigs through."

Seasonal considerations: RV campsites near Arlington, Arizona offer different experiences by season. During summer, look for parks with shade trees or covered sites to mitigate intense heat. Winter visitors should book well in advance as spaces fill quickly with seasonal residents.

Utility reliability: Check for potential electrical issues before hookup. At Palms Mobile Home RV Park, Laura M. reports, "We didn't plug in to power here, as our surge protector's lights indicated an open neutral." Using surge protectors can prevent damage to RV electrical systems from inconsistent power supplies.
