Dauphin Island RV camping options include several dedicated facilities with water and electrical connections. Pelican Nest RV Resort & Campground provides sites with electric hookups and water connections across from public beach access. "The staff is relaxed, helpful and very responsive," notes one visitor about Pelican Nest, which welcomes pets and offers reservable spaces. Bay Palms RV Resort in nearby Coden features full hookup sites with sanitary dump stations, concrete pads, and accommodations for large rigs. Dauphin Island Campground offers both RV and tent areas with some sites backing directly onto the road, though many RV spots are positioned in close proximity with minimal privacy between neighbors. Advance reservations are essential for most Dauphin Island area RV parks, particularly during peak seasons. The campgrounds vary significantly in technological amenities—some facilities maintain old-fashioned paper-based reservation systems while others offer modern conveniences. Bay Palms provides a heated swimming pool, playground, and full hookups, though several guests noted inconsistent hot water in the shower facilities. RV travelers should prepare for limited nearby dining and shopping options, as one camper mentioned "there is no nearby fast food and limited grocery stores" in the area. Most parks accommodate pets with designated dog areas, though restrictions apply in certain common spaces like bathhouses. Mobile Bay Ferry terminal sits directly across from Dauphin Island Campground, making island exploration convenient for RV visitors.

    Dockside RV Resort

    Clean, quiet, & great location

Very nice rv park. All have full hookups including sewer. Lots at gravel and level with plenty of room to park your camper & tow vehicle. Swimming g pool is nice, there is also a large fire pit. We arrived late and we’re offered help setting up since it was getting dark. WiFi is good enough for Roku & Hulu. Fishing dock is right across the street and we were only 25 minutes from Dauphin Island.

    Sugar Sands RV Resort

    Our favorite Orange Beach campground

Very clean. Spacious sites with level concrete pads. Full hook ups. Only 8-10 minutes to the beach.  Very clean bath houses. Easy to navigate campground road with tons of room to back into back-in sites. Pull throughs also easily assessible. Nice pool. Check in easy and quick. Employees very friendly. Will be back next month. Camp store on site. They also have a few rental tiny houses and rv's. Trash pickup at your site each morning. Cable TV and great WIFI.

9/6/20 update: all things mostly the same, bath house closed from 8pm to 8am and WiFi not nearly as good as past visits.

    Oaklawn RV Park

    Good for a layover

The good: location was great, right off the highway and next to a Camping World, Tire center, and emergency vet. Wi-Fi worked well, park felt safe, and we were only 10 minutes from major attractions in the area. The bad: water pressure was horrible. Sites were tight and overlapping, a little uneven, and about 4 inches unlevel. This is definitely a long term campground connected to a mobile home park.

There are a few open pull throughs for transient travelers and I would recommend them as an overnight stay based on location only.

    Magnolia Farms RV Park

    Quiet, Friendly RV Park

We are fairly new to the RV life - Andy tried to help us back in, and then decided he would just do it for us. He was so helpful. Everyone has been helpful. The laundry facility has an app that lets you know when your clothes are done, so you can walk back to your camper and wait instead of sitting with it. 3 or 4 activities are planned every month. There are some permanent residents, but enough transient to feel like you are with travelers. We chose it because it was close to our daughter, but would choose it again. Monthly rate is cheaper than daily rate. There is a fire pit for everyone to share, but no fire pits or grills for individual sites. Wooden decks for each site are nice. Grassy back in and some pull through- all level. Someone is always tending to the grounds and doing maintenance on the sites. We’ll be back!

    Gulf State Park Campground

    Beaches and bikes

Gulf Shores Alabama Gulf State Park Current camping spot on the canal. Ours is a nice pull thru with electric and water. Almost 500 sites here from tent to big rig friendly. Spacious sites, some with foliage, some with Lake or canal views. Grills but no fire pits. Right now there's a shortage of usable bath houses because of hurricane damage repairs in progress. Good wifi, local TV, and cell service. Close to stores and dining. Free access to adjacent pier. Great coastal access. Free use of bikes. Lots of great paved and boardwalk trails. Gators, snakes, armadillos and birds reside here.

Davis Bayou Campground — Gulf Islands National Seashore

Gem on the Mississippi Gulf Coast

We really enjoyed our stay at Davis Bayou. The campground seems to be a bit dated, but we kinda enjoyed the nostalgic element this added to the vibe.

The sites vary in size, we noticed most big rigs had to park their tow vehicles or toads in the auxiliary parking. If this is a problem you may want to look at other options, as the park staff is very diligent about keeping folks off the grass.

The park staff did regular patrols though out the park. They were very friendly.

We enjoyed riding our bikes around the park and to the historic arts district in Ocean Springs. There are several restaurants and bars with live music which was fun. There are also alot of art studios to check out.

We also took our canoe all though out Davis Bayou and to the beach, which was a ton of fun. The tides are in play here, so make sure you study up as conditions can and do change rapidly.

The visitors center is definitely worth checking out and while your there make sure to check out the fishing pier.

Each site has a picnic table, fire ring, power and water.

The cost is $22 a night per site.

The bathhouses were cleaned regular and had great water pressure. The water has a bit of a smell to it.

    Verizon cell service worked okay.

    Bring bug spray.

    Sun Outdoors Orange Beach

    Lots of concrete

This is an all Inclusive RV Resort! Lots of spaces, but very few RVs when we were there. Sites are all concrete with easy access hookups. Not much shade. 2 pools, one adult only. Dog Park, laundry, tennis courts, gulf cart rental. They even have a business center. Walking trails connect to Gulf State Park. They do a lot of planned activities which can be annoying. Long term or short term sites available.

    Mobile Oaks RV Resort

    Name has changed

This park is now Mobile west. They are still going through some changes. Pretty quiet park with security gates and cameras. Alot of nice size trees with a 14 acre lake and swimming pool. They sell propane on site also. Alot of long term worker campers but it's been a nice month here. I recommend to drive to Dauphin island (about 20 to 30 min).

Guide to Dauphin Island

Dauphin Island camping options extend beyond the main island to nearby coastal areas within a 30-minute drive. The island sits at the entrance to Mobile Bay with an average elevation of 7 feet above sea level. Summer temperatures typically range from 75-90°F with high humidity, while winter months average 45-65°F, making camping viable year-round despite occasional coastal storms.

What to do

Beach fishing access: 7 miles from Pelican Nest: Pelican Nest RV Resort & Campground provides proximity to beach activities. "There are 7 miles of walking beach off this RV and the island is a bird sanctuary in the Gulf Coast all around," notes one visitor who particularly enjoyed the coastal location.

Wildlife refuge exploration: 15 minutes from Bay Breeze: The Bon Secour Wildlife Refuge offers hiking trails, sandy beaches and kayaking opportunities. A Bay Breeze visitor reports, "Across the road is the Bon Secour Wildlife Refuge with hiking trails, sandy beaches on Little Lagoon and a kayak launch."

Historical sites: 8 miles from Fort Morgan: Fort Morgan offers historical exploration opportunities. One camper noted, "Head west and you will find historic Fort Morgan and a public pier perfect for watching sunsets over the gulf."

What campers like

Large sites with concrete pads: Homestead RV Community receives praise for their spacious sites. "The concrete pads are really large and make for easy leveling and give ample space to park 2 vehicles easily," one camper reports, appreciating the extra space.

Shaded camping under oak trees: Bay Breeze RV on the Bay offers a more natural setting. A camper describes, "The sites are located under massive oak trees with Spanish moss hanging from the limbs," noting this creates a true camping atmosphere rare in Gulf Coast RV parks.

Fishing access directly from campgrounds: Many campers value waterfront locations. "We had sight 2 which put us on the water. We got to watch 7 or 8 different fireworks shows from there," shares one Fort Morgan RV Park visitor, highlighting the benefit of waterfront sites.

What you should know

Weather considerations: Apalachee RV Campground offers wooded sites that provide some storm protection. "Bugs are not nearly as bad as I expected. Lots of wildlife including deer that come very close. Some sites are level some are more difficult to level," notes one reviewer about conditions.

Limited services: Several campgrounds near Dauphin Island have limited amenities. "We brought most of the food we needed because there is no nearby fast food and limited grocery stores. Just something to be aware of. Mainly seafood or pizza restaurants around," explains one Bay Palms visitor.

Reservation systems vary: Some RV campgrounds near Dauphin Island use older reservation methods. "Place is nice visually coming in but zero hot water in showers x 5 days, no mirrors in bathrooms," reported one Bay Palms visitor, highlighting maintenance inconsistencies.

Tips for camping with families

Dog-friendly options: All About Relaxing RV Park caters to pets with specialized amenities. "The dog park is so big and our pups were able to really run around and get their energy out," notes one visitor, adding that the "park itself is immaculately clean."

Activity planning: When camping with kids, consider parks with entertainment options. "We had to rely on the cable TV, board games, and tablets to entertain the children," mentioned a Fort Morgan camper, indicating limited on-site activities for younger guests.

Pool amenities: Swimming options vary between campgrounds. One camper at Dockside RV Resort noted, "Swimming pool is nice, there is also a large fire pit," though others mentioned inconsistent maintenance of water facilities at some locations.

Tips from RVers

Site leveling considerations: Winner's Circle RV Resort offers well-maintained sites. "Seems newer, close to town but not with all the noise, set far back from the road, clean, really nice pool, great amenities," reports one RVer, appreciating the quiet despite proximity to services.

Arrival timing: Several RV campgrounds offer arrival assistance. At All About Relaxing RV Park, one camper shared, "Arriving in the dark and rain, we were met at the gate and escorted in. He guided me back into the spot and got us settled in."

Seasonal staffing affects service: Service levels vary throughout the year at Dauphin Island rv campgrounds. Alabama coastal campgrounds often have different staff during peak vs off-season periods. "We visited in the off season (late October) and the weather was beautiful. The owners were very nice and the spaces were a good size and clean," reported one Pelican Nest visitor.
